Kamala has a problem. Her polling is even lower than Joe’s.

And worse, there is no Democrat saviour waiting in the wings.

When Sniffy Joe is no longer capable of being propped up, be it by the midterms or even in the leadup to November 3, 2024, she’s it. POTUS #47.

In the other half’s line of work there are few females who ever make the grade because it’s physically and mentally demanding. Mostly he has seen them as quickly as possible want to get away from the hands-on stuff and into a comfortable chair in a comfortable office.

There’s a reason that DeSantis is tiptoeing around the issue of Disney self-governance: The Walt Disney Company is the largest GOP donor in the state of Florida. For that reason and others, the author of Married to the Mouse thinks the threat by Republicans to revoke Disney’s self-governing status is political “March Madness.”

Not sure what to make of this yet.

It’s marketing. I know someone who compiled a lot of research on Millennials and Gen Z, for them tolerance of sexual diversity is a high priority. It has even been argued that one reason they are leaving US churches in droves is because so many Christians over there continually demonise the LGBTQi community. That’s probably true. Government and corporations are responding to marketing data. Another issue is that Millennials are more morally demanding of employers and corporations which increases their marketing clout. My generation didn’t give a hoot about such issues, we just bought and worked. Millennials now constitute nearly 40+% of the working population, ignoring that base is marketing madness.

I’m off to the gym on an empty stomach. It is going to be unpleasant.

A new anti-Covid-19 drug trial has shown it can eliminate the virus in three days, a study has revealed.

The US manufactured drug Molnupiravir has been shown to “eliminate” a mild to moderate Covid-19 infection by the third day of infection but the person diagnosed with Covid-19 must start the drug within five days of developing any symptoms.

Molnupiravir is an “oral antiviral prodrug” which has been provisionally approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia

The study, conducted by Merck & Co, the manufacturer of the drug, found none of the 92 participants with Covid-19 still had the virus by day three of taking Molnupiravir.

But 21 per cent of participants who had a placebo still had the virus at that time.

Dr Julie Strizki, the scientist spearheading the study, found a five-day course of Molnupiravir is effective.

“This study provides additional evidence that molnupiravir helps those infected clear SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-1) faster than placebo,” she said.

“Molnupiravir can lower the risk of progression to serious illness in this high-risk cohort.”

The study and its results will be presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.

SPAIN’S NEW COVID TRAVEL RULES
Spain has extended Covid entry requirements until the end of the month, impacting Easter holidaymakers.

Until April 30, only fully vaccinated people or those who can show proof of recovery from Covid can enter the country.

The Spanish Ministry of Health also required all travellers from an EU/EEA risk country need to fill out the Health Control Form.

“If you come from a country at risk in relation to Covid-19, you must present a certificate or document proving vaccination, diagnostic test for active infection or recovery from Covid-19”, a statement of the ministry read.

Teens do not need to be vaccinated to enter Spain.

To enter, you must prove you have been fully vaccinated within the last 270 days.

If you received your second dose more than nine months ago, you must have a booster vaccine.

CHINA NOT PREPARED FOR COVID OUTBREAK
A top Shanghai official has revealed the Chinese financial hub had been “insufficiently prepared” for its latest Covid outbreak, as criticism mounts over lockdowns that have caught residents off guard.

The eastern megacity of 25 million has been split in two as part of a rolling lockdown plan to battle China’s worst outbreak in two years.

The spread of the Omicron variant is testing the country’s zero-Covid strategy, which aims to crush virus clusters as soon as they emerge.

Residents in the eastern half of Shanghai have been confined to their homes since Monday and subjected to testing, before the restrictions are switched to the more populated western half on Friday.

The curbs, which kicked in hours after being announced on Sunday evening, spurred panic-buying at supermarkets and sent vegetable prices surging.

And some residents in western Puxi said they were already being ordered to stay at home days before the official lockdown.

One of Shanghai’s top officials, Ma Chunlei, made a rare admission of failure Thursday, saying in a statement that authorities had been “insufficiently prepared for the substantial increase in infected people”.

“We sincerely accept everyone’s criticism, and are working hard to improve,” Ma said in a briefing.

He added that the city was beefing up its resources for Covid testing and patient isolation.

Puxi resident Dong Jun said his district was unexpectedly placed under lockdown Wednesday, two days ahead of the official start date.

“I’ve been keeping my fridge full because of my previous experience of lockdown, but it still caught me off guard when I woke up and heard a lockdown was announced,” he told AFP.

“It’s quite a hassle to maintain a certain amount of life necessities.” Hours before it was Puxi’s turn to lock down, the streets were subdued with few cars on the road and many restaurants and shops already closed.

Meanwhile, as residents on the eastern side of the city prepared to finish their four-day closure, authorities said that buildings where positive cases had been found would be subjected to a further ten days of lockdown.

Starting from 5am Friday, authorities would “judge the results” of the first lockdown and decide the management of each area, they said in a statement late Thursday.

US AUTHORISES FOURTH COVID SHOT
The United States has authorised a fourth dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna Covid-19 vaccines for people aged 50 and older, as authorities warn of a possible new wave driven by the BA. 2 variant.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a statement it had based its decision on emerging evidence that an additional booster, given four months after the last, improved protection against severe Covid and wasn’t associated with new safety concerns.

Additionally, people with immune compromising conditions who have already received four shots, with their latest at least four months ago, are now eligible for a fifth dose.

That includes people living with certain organ transplants.

The Pfizer vaccine will be available to immune compromised people aged 12 and over, while the Moderna vaccine will be available to those 18 and up.

“Current evidence suggests some waning of protection over time against serious outcomes from Covid-19 in older and immunocompromised individuals,” senior FDA scientist Peter Marks said, explaining the decision.

A health worker shows a vial of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine. Picture: Javier Torres / AFP.
A health worker shows a vial of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine. Picture: Javier Torres / AFP.
The FDA said data from Israel, which had studied the effects of a fourth dose given four months after the third on 700,000 people, found the extra shot was safe.

It also cited data from a study of 154 health workers whose antibody levels, including against the Delta and Omicron variants, were restored to high levels two weeks after their fourth doses.

“A study published by Israeli researchers in the New England Journal of Medicine this month indicated that three doses of current generation mRNA vaccines have hit a ceiling in terms of the immune response generated.

In other words, while three doses brings immunity levels to new heights, the fourth dose restores antibody levels to where they previously were shortly after the third.

Experts have said the benefits to younger, healthy people aren’t yet clear, and say new vaccines will likely need to be developed as the virus continues to mutate”.

So basically you have to take the 4th because 3rd does not do much.

We have not even got to the Omicron variant vaccine yet.

Rex I raised that issue with my friend and stated a gaping hole in the analyses is this tendency to create generational parameters when time and again socioeconomic status is such a critical variable in how people behave and live. Whether or not corporations are taking that on board I do not know but it doesn’t seem to be the case. Just like peer reviewed research in general when something is called research, is presented with a Powerpoint presentation with lots of pie charts and statistics, the majority of people are inclined not to interrogate the data. If a board has paid out 5 figure sums for the data the directors are not inclined to state: what a steaming pile of shit. Public servants are even worse in the regard.

The other problem is the need for a new branch of engineering. How do we create steel plate and weld it in zero gravity and a vacuum?

Winston – I’ve been off doing Disco! Thanks Rabz!

Making steel the classic way probably doesn’t make sense in space since you need an air blast. But the other way is the direct reduced iron process, for which several plants operate around the world today.

First you get hydrogen from water ice, contact that with heat to some iron oxide (moon dirt has a lot of iron in it). Then you separate out the crude iron magnetically and stick it in an electric arc furnace with sufficient carbon to make steel.

It’s a closed loop process since the hydrogen has bound itself with the oxygen in the iron oxide, so you can condense the steam to regenerate your water. You get lots of oxygen as a byproduct, which is a nice fringe benefit.

As to welding, electric arcs should work. All this electricity comes from oodles of solar panels of course. Or a nuke plant maybe.

The other possibility is nickel-iron asteroids, which are like readymade stainless steel. I don’t know what the physical properties are like but if you section the natural alloy and take a pic it looks pretty!

American elites selling out to China: Report | China in Focus
“The CCP [Chinese Communist Party] government has a strategy when confronting the United States,” said Peter Schweizer, author of “Red-Handed” and president of the Government Accountability Institute.

The United States loses $200 billion to $600 billion each year to China through intellectual property theft.

But how is it happening? With a little help from friends on the inside.

“Made in China” labels flood the market, from everyday items to toys, to industrial tools. And now, even some policies here in America are being shaped by the communist regime.

In this special report, we peel back the layers on how the complicit actions of American elites have helped China gain an edge.

That’s the problem and Martin Luther King recognised the problem:

“Those who love peace must learn to organize as effectively as those who love war.”

My perennial complaint is that too many people don’t recognise it isn’t reason that rules it is persuasion. While so many lambasted Chomsky the title of a key work, Manufacturing Consent, highlights so much about modern life and that goes all the way back to Bernays, a relative of Freud, who used his ideas of unconscious desire to establish public relations.

You must learn about who Bernays was and what he did to understand our predicament of being ruled by an unpopular establishment whilst living in a democracy.

Bernays is so important to completing an explanation of politics from modern microeconomics.

He invented PR as we know it, basically.

Median voter theory and Bernays’ methods being competently executed perhaps explains how we have consistently elected apparently unpopular governments for years if not decades on end.

That or the voters are liars and know their demands are unreasonable – some of them know they are voting for incompatible policies – or they don’t care, they simply want such policies, despite how obviously incompatible they are.

Yes Dot, that much is obvious. If we polled the population with the following question what would the result be?

Do you vote for politicians by analyzing their their policies or do you trust your intuition?

There is only a small percentage of the voting public that makes a serious effort to examine policies. Many would admit they trust their intuition. I hate intuition, I only trust it in very specific circumstances and where I have learned a good deal about a subject. Even then wherever possible intuition is not a decision, it is a starting point for analysis; but sometimes we must decide on the fly so intuition is our only guide. That is why Kahneman’s concept of fast and slow thinking is so important.

My current views on 2024.
Trump isn’t running 2024.
But the candidate needs his strong endorsement.
In return, Trump will want a surrogate in the VP role.
There are only two people from his administration that didn’t burn him.
Richard Grenell & Kellyanne Conway.
Conway needs to divorce her husband & disowns her daughter (which isn’t going to happen).
When you go through his administration, so many let him down, blabbed to the media or went on to write books full of lies.
Conway’s book comes out in a couple of months so will be interesting to see is she joins that last group.
We won’t know until the book is released.

The roos are leaving their prints on the dew soaked fairways, two for the feet and one between where the tail thumps the ground. You can always see where they’ve been, moving from place to place, topping the new growth on the closely mown grass.

The witchdoctor is IN.

In Australia, doctors are now being warned they “are obliged to” follow public health messages (3 Apr, via Climate Depot)

Australia’s march toward medical authoritarianism continues.

Doctors are now being told they could face discipline for saying anything that contradicts “public health messaging,” even if what they are saying is “evidence-based.”

They may even face investigations for “authoring papers” that health authorities do not like.

Further, even “views… consistent with evidence-based material” could lead to problems if they contradicted “public health messaging.”

The warning came from the Medical Indemnity Protection Society, which provides professional insurance coverage for doctors. Although these insurers do not speak officially for government agencies, doctors effectively cannot practice without professional insurance, so their pronouncements are powerful.

So if you say something which is medically accurate that the authorities don’t like you can now be denied indemnity insurance as well as losing your medicare number. We truly now live in an age of unscience.

Branch Members turned out to support Tony Abbott last time, it didn’t do him any good.

Oh yea it’s “only” 10 hours , driller. I misread the one stop thing. Huge difference.

You can’t imagine that happening here. They’d change the seating and coddle the ‘victim’ as their training tells them.

Hahaha. Googleory reckons Rick Grenell is a “spook”. Thanks for that — laughed out loud.

Here’s a hint, you idiot. Rick Grenell is a pouve and pouves can’t be spooks because of the blackmail problem — even in this day and age and even though the global pouve industrial complex has diverted its gay marriage campaign to try to turn the whole world into pouves via the ladyboy movement.

If the polls were wrong last time, what possibly makes you think they’re right now – after lockdowns and still huge numbers of people not returning to the office?

How are they obtaining the poll data post covid? Who are they talking to and what changes have they made to data collection?

That is the key flaw in the US system. They are authorised, even encouraged, to throw “troublemakers” off. This leads to high noon in the aisle and a fight to the death.
As you say, here we might get a seat shuffle (which, incidentally gets gamed too, by those hopeful of an upgrade).

NT chief copper still there, but:

Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker and other executives gave instructions for Constable Zach Rolfe to be charged in Darwin if any charges were to proceed, police notes show, marking the fifth instance of documented evidence showing the top cop’s involvement across all four days following the Yuendumu shooting and further contradicting Mr Chalker’s claim he was not involved in the process to charge.

Absolutely fascinating. This is what I call investigative journalism. There’s a bit of genuine horror in there too with the vivid description of the filmed torture of the Russian prisoners of war, which is being ignored by the West but is having a huge effect in Russia.

From the power station closing story.
Gee, if only there was a group, say involved in politics, or representing a sector of the workforce, or business that relies on cheap power, which would articulate the Mongstrosity of dynamiting a working power plant and replacing it with essentially public service jobs to the ex-workers.

They are angry at state and federal governments, though they struggle to nail down the reason.

Hong Kong is about 9 hours I think. Do you know where the bulk of China’s naval assets are stationed? I doubt it Hong Kong yet.

Also, where are the island continents of Tibet, Vietnam and Korea on the map as I can’t find them lazing away in the pacific. Lastly when you’re done, go dust the bar.

Crossie – Pence shafted Trump over the election certification. He hasn’t been at all supportive since either. Has been acting very GOP insiderish.

Pompeo has always been supportive of Trump. His problem I think is he was head of the CIA and the State Department and failed to do anything about those lefty swamps. Republican voters notice such things. A CIA guy was even bragging last week about stealing the election for Biden.

I suggest Mike Pompeo gets himself on a ballot for governor in a winnable state. That should be feasible. If he wins the Republican voters will have four years to see what he actually does.

Lizzie about the disappearing churches: the dioceses selling the churches are selling what does not belong to them. The churches were and are built mostly by the hard-earned contributions of parishioners, and often not for their own benefit but for those who follow. It is therefore a betrayal of the people of the past when the church buildings are sold. To boost coffers by selling churches is to ensure non-existing congregations.

She had to have a special exemption because until recently she wasn’t even a member of the Liberal Party. Branch members are saying they won’t turn out to support her.”

Katherine Deves, the woman parachuted in by Morrison to contest Warringah, does great work on the whole transgender stuff. I like her. However I doubt she’ll beat Zali. I think she might have had a chance if her preselection had happened a year ago. It’s probably too late.

The thing is that Warringah, like Wentworth, Kooyong and Curtin, are “shallow” electorates full of very “shallow” and hypocritical people. A “defence and national security expert” isn’t going to beat Zali. The Liberal party needs to say adios to electorates like Warringah and Wentworth. They should be concentrating on winning electorates like Parramatta…..very winnable and particularly with the candidate that Labor has parachuted into the seat.
