Haven’t read back, so not sure if anyone’s noted this already. Labore has 76 (77, possibly?) lower house MPs, 32 of them (not including albansleazey) are either in cabinet, the outer ministry or assistant ministers.

And the rest have committee positions that come with extra remuneration. Nom, nom, nom, both front trotters in.

I’ve managed to stop the Prayers of the Faithful from including climate change. This might be more of a challenge as it’s come direct from the Bishops Conference and the local Arch is the current chairman. He’s going to get a serious ear chewing tomorrow.

Went to a Uniting Church service at Easter (I know!), not much about The Good News but quite a bit about the apparent evils of coal….

Cheap Australian Coal has done more to lift people out of poverty than any aid program ever did.

Daughter at present looking after her mother-in-law. 71yr old MIL has had two covid vaccinations plus the booster and also the flu vaccine. She contracted influenza last week and is now in hospital with breathing problems. Tests for covid were negative.
My daughter says that she thinks that all those covid vaccinations have weakened her MIL’s immune system and that perhaps is why the flu vaccine did not work as expected.

Burney acknowledged only eight of the previous 44 referendums had passed, including the 1967 poll in which Australians overwhelmingly voted to allow Indigenous people to be counted in the census.

“I was 10 years old when my country, when my fellow citizens, decided to count me in the population of the country I was born in, on the land my ancestors had lived on for countless generations,” she said.

From “The Age.” I’m surprised that Linda Burney is allowed to get away with this bullshit. Aborigines were always counted in the census, ever since the first was taken, in 1911 – the results are on-line. The 1967 referendum referred to “the National reckoning” – a completely different issue.

When badgerphobic Swedes go out walking in the forest, they stuff their socks with Ryvita-style crispbread so that, if any marauding badgers should bite, they will hear the crispbread break and be tricked into thinking it’s the sound of snapping bone.

    A genuine Drop Bear moment.

“Malcolm Turnbull, John Hewson … Sometimes people want to be kicked out of the Liberal Party … to make a point or to make themselves into a martyr,” Mr Dutton said.

A martyr to who? Alex Turnbull? Photios? The AFR?

Rewarding treachery. Or – refusal to expel as a punishment, which speaks volumes as to a loser mentality.

Fortunately the Catholic vigil mass for Easter is strictly business and very high church in ritual. There isn’t much room for politics.

I have only ever been to a few Easter Sunday masses. I think that’s where the Bishops LARP as Teal candidates.

“Mr Dutton pushed back against suggestions Mr Turnbull should be expelled while admitting it “would be the view of many of our members across the country” that he deserved it.”

He does deserve to be expelled Mr Dutton, you know that.

Oh and Mr Dutton, since you don’t think expelling Malcolm Turnbull is such a good idea, then please welcome back into the party Matthew Camenzuli, who had his party membership stripped after launching a legal action over the appalling NSW preselection process.

    Fair’s fair Mr Dutton.

Just a reminder that after Malcolm Turnbull white anted Peter King back in 2004 and gained preselection for Wentworth, Peter King decided to run as an independent against Turnbull in the 2004 federal election. For his sins Peter King was expelled from the party for five years (I think).

This one’s for agricultural Cats. Welcome to the new Minister for Agriculture.

Murray is a born and bred Queenslander, and was taught that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, whoever they are.

Murray’s entire working life has been spent as an advocate for others, having spent 20 years as a lawyer, a State MP and Chief of Staff to former Premier Anna Bligh. He was elected as a Senator for Queensland in 2016.

As a lawyer, Murray specialised in employment law and ran class actions for farmers, shareholders and consumers against governments and big corporations. He also led an award-winning team which secured the release of around 100 Australian-born children and their families, stopping their transfer to indefinite detention on Nauru.

During his time in the Senate, Murray has met with communities across Queensland and fought for them in Canberra. He is a key member of Labor’s Senate Estimates team and has led many Senate inquiries into health, regional, industry and other policies.

Validation for lizard fans everywhere (ABC News):

A plan to boost snowfall in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains has passed through State Parliament.

The Government announced last month that cloud seeding trials had proved successful and that it would seek to make the process permanent.

Woodside Energy prepares to take BHP Petroleum into the fol

Woodside Energy will pull more than 100 BHP Petroleum staff into the fold in Perth on Wednesday as it closes its $27 billion buyout of a spread of oil and gas operations in Australia and overseas.

The deal will see about 1000 BHP staff transfer to Woodside, including 100 in Perth who will be relocated into the latter’s high-rise headquarters on Mount Street.

Woodside is marking the the buyout with a number of low-key staff events in Australia and Houston, where it is absorbing a large BHP Petroleum team.

The 914.8 million shares – worth $27.2 billion at Tuesday’s close – it is issuing to pay for the BHP unit will be distributed to BHP’s 540,000 shareholders in the form of a dividend on Wednesday.

The new shares are being allocated on the basis of one for every 5.5350 BHP shares held and can be traded on the stock market from Thursday.

The petroleum merger will double the size of Woodside, which will gain oil and gas interests on the North West Shelf, the Bass Strait, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

But the deeper push into fossil fuels, while boosting production, will also increase its emissions at a time when global concerns about climate change are growing.

Woodside has argued that the merged group will be in a stronger financial position to navigate the transition to cleaner energy sources.

However, its rationale is rejected by climate activists who want a ban on new fossil fuel projects, such as Woodside’s $US12b ($16b) Scarborough project off north west WA, and accuse the company of greenwashing.

A big protest vote against Woodside’s climate report at its annual meeting two weeks suggested shareholders, while supportive of the BHP deal, want quicker action by the company on its climate goal

Northern Territory Police are calling for anyone with information regarding an incident in Coolalinga to come forward.

At 10:30 on Tuesday morning, police were notified of what appeared to be a human leg on the Stuart Highway just north of Coolalinga.

You’d think they’d have noticed by now.

    from Zulu’s link above.

The only “shareholders” who want quicker action on climate change are the ones who bought one share the day before the shareholders meeting, and were gobbing off about green crap constantly, much to annoyance of genuine shareholders and the board members.

Everyone else was just interested in how much profit was headed their way, just as nature intended.

‘Historic opportunity’ to tackle domestic violence in remote communities

    Amos Aikman
    Northern Correspondent

The election of three Indigenous women to federal parliament from the Northern Territory provided a historic opportunity to address violence against women and children in remote communities, the new Northern Territory Chief Minister says.

After The Australian ran a three-part series on Ruby, an indigenous woman who was brutally raped and beaten by her father in the remove NT community of Yuendumu and then forced from the town after he was convicted and jailed, Natasha Fyles pledged programs that would have “direct and positive results’’ to combat the problems.

Ms Fyles took over Darwin’s top job earlier in May, promising to make social issues a top priority for her government.

Ms Fyles declined to comment on the specifics of any particular case but described Ruby’s story as tragic and sadly not unusual in a Territory context. She blamed alcohol abuse and intergenerational trauma for the NT’s high rates of domestic abuse.

Using words of three syllables, or less, on a single sheet of paper, WTF is intergenerational trauma?
