Oryx’s documented Ukrainian loss list is remarkably close to the Ukrainian government figures reportedly stated upthread. So, of course Russia is being honest in its reporting.*

Interestingly, only the one Bushmaster ‘coffin’ remains confirmed destroyed.

* Seriously dover, the man has been laughed out of the room for his assertion that Russia breaking out 1960s vintage T-62s out of sheer attrition somehow reflects lessons well-learned about urban warfare and armour, and that a barely updated MBT last fielded by Russians themselves in the late 1970s is a superior choice in such theatres.

I believe he also may still be waiting for the Moskva to re-enter Sevastopol under its own power…

Not true but the decay products of U-233make it a strong gamma emitter so nasty to handle.

James Morrow on Outsiders noted that Perrottet has changed his tune from 2018 when he had an opinion piece in the Daily Telegraph mocking the ALP policy to fly the Aboriginal flag on the Harbour Bridge, saying that they should put a big screen on top of the bridge which could show the ALP’s latest trendy message and they could call it the Virtue Signal.

Hardly. You don’t need a nuke power program to make nuclear weapons. The Iranians are enriching U-235 as did the USA in WW2. The USA made the plutonium 239 for Trinity and the Nagasaki bomb in plutonium production reactors at Hanford. Power production was heat as a by product and not all that much of it.
Read up on how Stalin got the bomb. Dig hole with bulldozer. Take bunch of zeks. Stack bricks of natural uranium (oxide I’d guess) interleaved with graphite bricks around cadmium rods attached to A frame over hole. Cadmium rods attached to rope running over pulley on A frame. Have some zeks pull cadmium rods out slowly while you monitor the fissions. After three weeks, re- insert rods. Wait a while then have zeks dismantle pile. Dissolve uranium bricks in nitric acid to separate out Pu-239. If you leave it run longer you get other undesirable isotopes of Pu.
Power production leaves the fuel in the reactor for a year to 18 months.
Proliferation as an excuse not to use nuclear power is bullshit. Any government wants the bomb, they will get it.

Roger, thank a Supreme Court ruling in 2019 for that. Twice differential rates were slapped down by the Court previously but Councils kept coming back for more. They finally found a compliant judge. Personally the State needs to legislate it out of exitance as the renter ends up copping it.

As for seizing unused property, default I have is I am against it if rates are being paid. I’d be a cynic to not believe this is in response to Chinese money buying up property for safe keeping that I am led to believe is still happening despite the regulatory changes.

That became evident to me when Chant went off the reservation and he didn’t sack her. Subsequent actions have shown him just as impotent, Speakman and Kean have more pull than the Premier does.

Re inflation, the gov via the reserve bank gives heaps of money to banks and people they like, eventually the money gets to those at the bottom and so much money chasing limited goods etc makes for price rises, I think that’s right. I don’t understand how the cure works ie interest rate increases. Those at the bottom didn’t get much of the money and when they did those at the top had already bought up almost everything they could, so those at the bottom have to pay a Lot more of their income on interest payments to the banks that gave the money to already wealthy people in the first place? Is that how it works?
Next how does the money then get taken out of circulation? If this is a dumb question I don’t care I want to know.

“Experts question CDC’s approval of COVID vaccines for under-5s because Pfizer study used just THREE children to prove it works and Moderna admits it is only 37% effective: ‘We should just assume we don’t have efficacy data’
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday authorized Moderna Inc’s and Pfizer’s shot for children aged six months to five years old
On Saturday, a CDC panel voted unanimously to recommend vaccines for children as young as six months
That vote was later signed off by CDC Director Rochelle Walensky meaning a national rollout could begin next week
An infectious diseases expert, Dr. Sarah Long, said: ‘We should just assume that we don’t have efficacy data’ regarding vaccine success in under fives
A Pfizer study used just three children while Moderna’s study showed efficacy of just 37 percent in kids aged two through five
Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine is approved for children aged six months to 4 years
President Joe Biden’s administration plans to roll out the vaccines to the under-5 age groups after the Juneteenth holiday weekend.”

Next how does the money then get taken out of circulation? If this is a dumb question I don’t care I want to know.

Reserve Bank “open market” operations; selling government bonds at attractive rates to banks and financial institutions soaks up liquidity and raises interest rates, less money for business and home loans, banks love it as they get a better return on their funds; buying bonds will inject liquidity as the banks now have more free cash to loan to business and home buyers, and will lower interest rates (“quantitative easing”). The latter is with newly created money.

Increasing interest rates hurts everyone who has an exposure, and it hurts the poor the most, and is usually used by the Reserve Bank to dampen down asset price inflation ( mostly property, but also business activity). It is a blunt tool but one of the few available to government to control the economy.

Hosting a RR SMR for towns up to 10k.
Similar for towns up to 100k
and a third category of towns up to 500k.
Winning towns to have power fixed at minimum maintenance rates for the poles and wires for 5 years. Say 5c/kwhr.
Ignore the formatting fails – having brekky at the same time.

No trouble JC, how does the money get from the Reserve Bank to the general population?

You’re talking about the money supply. The money supply at one single point in time is the result of past Reserve bank actions and it achieves this either through direct injections into the banking system or through open market operations.

Then how does it get back to the bank? Who makes the most money out of this process?

Money goes back to the RBA if the RBA buys bonds for currency resulting in a liquidity injection.

The public stopped trusting him, the public stopped liking him…in fact many, like me, loathed him. All he did was stab those in his party or on his side of politics in the back, confirmed by Andrew Laming this week. A good leader sticks by his men and women. Not Morrison, think how he quickly he dumped on George Pell, Bettina Arndt, SAS soldiers, Alan Tudge, Andrew Laming, Christian Porter, Craig Kelly, George Christensen, Bruce Lehmann, a litany of Morrison corpses.
Actually, when I think of it, the left were right about Morrison’s character. He’s not missed and his final coup de grace to the Australian people? He gifted us Albanese, Burke, Bowen and Marles.

I was thinking of the good old days when public service salaries were lower than those in the private sector; the rationale was that their employment conditions were better.

Speaking of the “balance of power”, this is just my take but I reckon Svengali Simon was convinced that he and his Stepford Gals would have the balance of power after the election and he would be able to wield considerable power. He didn’t factor in that the Liberals would lose bigtime and that it would be win by Labor. FBT is paid by the employer. When it was initaially designed it was to be paid by the wmployee, then the Pollies realised they would be paying it on meals and cheap booze in the Parliamentary dining roomand changed it.

We should actually thank eggster for being one of protagonists in possibly the most entertaining three days in blog history.
When he and another blogster went day and night for three days threatening to take each other to some virtual blog carpark and beat the living suitcase out of each other.
Neither thought of the obvious geographical barrier to the proposed stoush, given they lived 800 kms apart.
Which just heightened the entertainment value for me.
Alas, my amusement was not shared by Sinc, who shut the place for a week.
Now, who was the other one involved in that stoush?

FBT was another Keating brainfart. It wasn’t needed. They just needed to enforce the existing law whihc was being ignored with company cars available on weekends for private use etc. Just go through one largish company and the money would have been collected.

The trailer looked very good.

I’ve never read any of them, but my brother is a SF&F and Reacher fan. He also paints armies, but that’s another thing. Anyway I’m at his house and we’re talking sci fi then we arrive at his bookcase full of Reachers. Um, yeah, they’re fun he says, slightly embarrassed. He’s a fine brother. The trailer looks like fun.

Yet again, there will be a mysterious absence of a certain sweet tropical fruit among the toppings.

Pizza night here too.
No paw-paw on mine either.

There isn’t a lot of love for the housing-for-teachers brain fart on Fauxfacts. A surprise, as the comments there invariably run very left.

Causing the Perfesser to take some drastic action.

Umm…yes, it’ll be another repeat of what happened in South Australia earlier this year. A green progressive Liberal Party swept from power.

Gateway drug for model trains.

Most of those railway folks look on rather enviously when you present a model painted upwith every highlighting, drybrushing and weathering trick you know, and makes their otherwise nicely built wagons and locos look a little bit too garish and toy-like…

I wouldn’t normally laugh at an old man falling off a bike but the footage of the Sniffer in Chief riding the bike, then stopping and falling sideways with the bike is hilarious.

Increasing interest rates hurts everyone who has an exposure, and it hurts the poor the most

Do the poor have large, overstretched mortgages?

Inflation hurts the poor most, and benefits large debtors.

How do you cut inflation without increasing rates? By cutting government spending! It is also the only sustainable way to ensure rates are low over a prolonged period of time.
