From The Oz….

At least 4,000 people in low-lying areas of southwest Sydney have this morning been told to evacuate before they are cut off by rising floodwaters.

Residents of Camden, Woronora, Chipping Norton, Lansdale, Moorebank, Warwick Farm and Georges Hill have been told to leave.

One hundred troops and 2 ADF helicopters are on standby with the weather bureau warning there is worse to come. Overnight, the SES responded to 500 calls for help and carried out 16 flood rescues.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Jane Golding said the agency was expecting conditions to worsen.

“What we’re expecting to see over the next 24-48 hours is the trough continue to deepen and a potential east coast low to develop within that by tomorrow night or early Monday morning,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s Jane Golding.

“The rainfall rates will increase, we’ll start to see the wind increase as well. We’ll start to see the seas whipped up, and we’ll see rivers respond to the rain that’s falling.”

Ms Cooke warned of riverine flooding, especially for areas around the Hawkesbury-Nepean river.

“Our dams and river channels are also full,” she said. “In addition to flash flooding, there is a very real risk of riverine flooding occurring over the days ahead.”

“The river system of most concern at this point is the Hawkesbury-Nepean which may reach major flood levels overnight.””

Where’s Albo? Has he returned from hobnobbing with Macron in Europe? Is the MSM and are social media sewers awash with screams, cries and shouts of “where’s Albo”? Or is he still too busy prostrating himself before Macron?

Where’s Princess Allegra and why isn’t she spruiking hysteria about “da cliiiimaaaate”, just like she did earlier this year, during the floods? Oh that’s right, Princess Allegra is simply remaining true to her shallow campaign slogan “A better climate for Wentworth”. She’s only concerned about the climate in Wentworth, in Sydney’s leafy eastern suburbs. In fact, I doubt she’s ever heard of suburbs called Camden, Woronora, Chipping Norton and Lansdale.

Here’s my take, Albanese and Spender are hypocrites but we all knew that. But you know who’s worse? Our media, who’ll never hold them to account for their lies and spin and the stupid fucking Liberals, for doing nothing to fight this “cliiiimaaaate” hysteria, despite being in power for nearly ten years.

The next case to go to the US Supreme Court should be a challenge to those multi-thousand page Bills that are debated for a derisory time. There is a clear argument that they do not in any realistic way reflect the intentions of Congress, and that therefore the administrative state cannot use them as the basis of regulatory action.

The same applies here, where long Bills are passed without any realistic time for consideration.

Residents of Camden, Woronora, Chipping Norton, Lansdale, Moorebank, Warwick Farm and Georges Hill have been told to leave.

All sitting on saturated, heavy clay soil. There is absolutely nowhere for all that water to go, much like areas in Sydney’s northwest that should never have been developed.

Along with a full-throated cry, “Where’s Albo?” should be, “Where’s Flannery?”.

It’s his hatred of the middle classes that I also find repugnant iirc he called for their ‘elimination’. Stalin and Mao tried to oblige.

Both Stalin and Mao were very good at starting major Famines. Stalin’s 5 Year Plans were useless and he stole grain from the Ukrainians. Hmmmmmmm. A bit of a ‘todo’ in the Ukraine right now. History repeats and all that. The Gulags and Purges didn’t help either. Many, many people died.

Mao tried to kill all the Chinese sparrows and that backfired as then the insects got out of hand and destroyed more crops than the sparrows ate (especially the plagues of locusts). The sparrows were useful for keeping the insects under control. They were/are useful in pollination as well as are bees.
His 5 Year Plans didn’t help either as they were useless.

There’s a lot, lot more but these two men were evil. Communism only works in theory and it has a very bad track record in practice.

Now it’s the West (including Australia and NZ) wrecking their Economies (Climate Change BS, expensive food and energy, etc.)

Gavin Newsom signed two gun control laws yesterday prohibiting the marketing of firearms to minors and bolstering restrictions on ghost guns.

The bill, AB 2571 , bars gun manufacturers from marketing guns in a way that “reasonably appears to be attractive to minors.” The ghost gun bill tightens requirements for the microstamping of unserialized firearms.

Oh, the gun makers have ads selling say handguns using baby talk? How that hell would you be able to describe in law an ad that is attractive to minors?

Whoa. Sudden blast of wind and rain has just detached the large skylight from next door.

I’d better go check our new conservatory/terrace room for any damage. That part of our buiding has always been in the line of fire for these sorts of sudden blasts we occasionally get and I did warn the builders to make it all extra strong against winds. Before we had that area glassed in we had external blinds which broke loose from the pergola and the heavy end bar thrashed a small fridge to bits. Before we had a fixed pergola we had a Bunnings pergola there, which survived most weather but in cyclonic conditions like today it became twisted into a modern art sculpture.

*returns*

Hmm. Water all over the floor on that side, looks like the roofer didn’t quite get the gutter leak fixed.
Or the gutter’s come loose again and is tipping once again into the ceiling now dripping. Buggeure.

Have laid some old towels around to soak it up.

The perils of living on the ocean one side and the Sydney heads on the other. Line of fire.

Mum said bucketing down at Lake Mac. Looks like a stereotypical ECE which wouldn’t be so bad but for the wet year NSW has already had. Looking at the totals already in the Blue Mountains if I was on the Colo R or Hawksbury area especially in lower areas I’d be thinking to get out. Though looks like it is easing in Sydney suburbs. Small mercies.

As for Queensland epic overreaction. Todays forecast downgraded to shower of two, less than a mm overnight. Third upper trough due through tomorrow, the first 2 decayed without too much fanfare. Just a feeling the third will do same looking at satellite image today. Mackay and the Pioneer Valley has had some good falls but anywhere west of Nebo it falls right off.

Some mentioned gas, I have no choice where I live and we are in a Cyclone prone area. We have 2 9.5kg gas bottlers for the bbq, a butane stove with canisters and a 3.8KVa generator. That seems to last us through blackouts due to extreme weather.

‘You will live in the pod.’

It’s Happening! (the Hun):

Desperate Melbourne renters happy to skimp on space could rent a single bed space shuttle-style pod, for a jaw-dropping $900 per month.

Listing images show six pod-style beds are stacked on top of each other in one of the bedrooms, while the three remaining upstairs bedrooms contain space for normal-sized beds.

Features for those who choose to rent a capsule for $250 per week include a “single bed equipped with own mirror, ventilating fan, USB ports, digital control panels, adjustable colour reading lights, safe locker, clothes hanger and curtain door for privacy.

The images attached to the piece look a bit sci-fi, and they’re described as ‘space shuttles’.

Landlord Frank Chan

Chinese pods!

highlights aspects that may be appealing to budding renters are there are ‘No bills to pay, no bond, and no minimum stay’ and that it is ‘cheaper the longer you stay’. There is also daily housekeeping and ‘24/7 staff’.

Apparently ‘no overcrowding is allowed’. Ominous.

Grass is green. Water’s wet. The sky is blue (the Hun):

Militant construction union the CFMEU has repeatedly shut down sites across the West Gate Tunnel, threatening further delays on the already beleaguered project.

Police and WorkSafe visited construction crews on the project most days last week, as union officials caused chaos and forced lengthy shutdowns that risk more cost blowouts.

The West Gate Tunnel Project is already three years late, while its budget has soared from $6.7 billion to $10.8 billion.

And:

The CFMEU’s construction division state secretary, John Setka, was unapologetic about the latest tactics saying they were all about safety, and dismissed demarcation dispute concerns.

Even more unsurprisingly:

Last week, the Herald Sun revealed businesses were being threatened and their workers dumped from government projects over CFMEU demands, with accusations the Andrews Government was enabling the behaviour.

Insiders have labelled it blatant industrial coercion.

I hope Shatterzzz is tucked up warmly out there at Fairfield. I suspect the main source of flooding will be from the Orphan School “Creek”. The big problem though is that it’s all a clay basin just waiting to be filled, much like a dam. The teeny, twisty watercourses running through it just don’t drain fast enough, and even if they did, all that happens is that floodwater is delivered at speed lower down.

Head Case. Are you now an ‘eggs spurt’ in Contract law and how major Contracts are structured and administered? Major Contracts are split up into various Sections and non-performance of any one Section could mean the whole Contract being cancelled, or, compensation, or…………The French just found it too difficult to perform and meet the Contract conditions. Blame ‘TurnBullShit’ as it seems to be his idea to convert a Nuclear Sub to Diesel power. LOL. Aren’t we supposed to be moving away from Fossil Fuels according to the ‘Climate Alarmists’. How hypocritical and what an engineering nightmare.

The French got compensation money so they can STFU.

Just like you are an ‘eggs spurt’ on the geography of the Baltic Sea region and nearby Russia. Agony aunt time. I almost didn’t post this.

I will try not to be invidious or mean.

I know a very fat chick who went to the Melbourne abortion rally. In my mind, she is physically revolting. She is also loud and opinionated. No sane men would touch her. She has a boyfriend, but he is weak and effeminate.

The idea of this chick ever needing an abortion is absurd like when on those fatty shows on pay TV, where the 700 lb woman has a boyfriend. I’m not trying to be mean. 40 years ago, a woman over 100 kg would be laughed out of a dating service.

I feel guilty. We have friends in common, but I can’t stand this person. I know her older bother and sister well and they are very productive members of society. The younger sister has a soft social science degree that is only marketable because of the scope of the welfare state.

I have vented to about four blokes in our social group how I can’t stand this woman. One was her brother (!), one was a guy who just got licensed at the time as a clinical psychologist. “I know this is going to annoy you, but just be nice is the best way to deal with your problem” was the advice.

I don’t get how this chick is so popular. She has a very negative, mopey personality. Is everyone else faking it? I am about the oldest in the social group. I would say I am friends – actual friends with just about everyone else except for one guy her age with a similar whiny personality. I asked my psych friend – I can’t stand these people, they are popular but they make me irate.

Why can’t I slap sense into these people?

Worst thing in my mind when she was giving life advice at 21.

Sure, some people might be able to, but no kids, no husband, no career and no home ownership or financial independence. I was just infuriated. She used to meddle in things. One night I turned down a drunk chick. She had to intervene. For “safety”. Fuck off.

I cannot fathom how she has any social cache. Are these poor saps all too afraid to look like an arsehole?

What a about daddy’s race cars?

Another story, Bespoke, and a true one.
He was uncultured but became well-off as a young man in England, where he drove racing cars.
He suffered from delusional grandiosity in Australia. Spent his money wildly on car racing.
He insisted on learning to fly, at Bankstown aerodrome. I went up with him a few times.
We, his family, suffered for it. We were left very poor, and unacceptable in the town.
My mother was a coal-miner’s daughter, couldn’t cope, became psychiatric, like him.
She had a family background that encouraged a retreat into the paranormal.
You’d have to know my father and of his younger days to understand it. An unusual man.
He didn’t exactly come voluntarily to Australia; he was sent here, in 1945. A black sheep.
We followed in 1946. I am finding out more as I investigate our ancestry and family church.

It occurs to me that Sky News should make available the written scripts already in its possession of Sunday’s Outsiders — especially the scripts delivered by Rowan Dean (who’s also the Australian editor of The Spectator magazine).

Dean is one of the few original thinkers in the Australian media. His rant today on the need for a royal commission into the overreaction to Kung Flu by Australian federal and state governments was first-class.

I’m sure there is a niche publishing market for the writings of Sky news commentators who swim against the trash tide of Australian politics.

No Escape! Recession Will Destroy Wealth. Period.
In today’s show, we review the weeks market action, starting in the US – by far the most influential market, followed by Europe, Asia and Australia. There is no place to hide. Wealth is being destroyed. And there is no end in sight. Data is flagging recession, as central banks continue to raise rates and given the astronomical debt burden out there this is a big deal.

Even conservative investment strategies are being hit. “This is a train wreck,” says Alex Dunnin, executive director of research house Rainmaker Group. “When a traditionally conservative strategy is getting the worst returns then all bets are off. It doesn’t matter where you go, almost everyone will be in pain.”

Dot:
Why can’t I slap sense into these people?…

You should already know the answer to this, Dot.

Change the context for a minute, Dot. Think about changing the minds of the global warming
cohort who believe that the would is ending. Even when the lights finally go out will they wake up. It’s a bit like lemmings who crave the sea.

Are these poor saps all too afraid to look like an arsehole?

It starts with not wanting to be excluded – and the loudest, most obnoxious ones control that process.

Take a look at a bit of that Mark Dice in the USA, on youtube, go out into the streets and ask questions of the people he meets. Even the most outrageous subjects will find these saps too afraid to stand up and argue against the obvious stupidities that are given credibility in the media and elsewhere. They’ve been brought up on equity/diversity, feelings-and-welcoming-everyone mindset, no matter what it is – think drag queen story time.

Post modernism, in all its glory, combined with moral posturing has brought this about. So many people today are too afraid to stand up and say what is right because they fear censure and exclusion. As long as the bullying by these fools is not actually being directed at “me” it’s nothing to worry about.

But that’s how the world changes; little by little, as the common-sense of a few generations ago withers on the vine. The don’t want to change; they want to get on.

America, as the world’s only successful multiracial democratic republic, was always fragile. It was and is always one generation away from disappearing—should any cohort become so foolish as to mock its past, dismantle its institutions, revert to tribalism, redistribute rather than create wealth, and consume rather than invest…

Joe Biden took a strong economy—albeit one that after three serial spendthrift presidencies faced huge national debt and a rendezvous with fiscal sobriety—and has utterly ruined it.

America’s bounty was predicated on each generation following the prompt of the prior, modulating when change was necessary, but not daring to tamper with the foundational principles and values that explained our singular wealth, power, and leisure.

This generation in its arrogance tested fate. It felt itself smarter and morally superior to its betters of the past. It lost that wager and now we the public are paying for its foolishness. To destroy America as we have always known it, there was far less necessary to ruin than our elite believed.

Victor Davis Hanson, America is more fragile than the Left understands.

I don’t get how this chick is so popular. She has a very negative, mopey personality.

Personality dynamics within a group can be strange and difficult to untangle. Everyone gets something different out of it, and some people are happy to be the lowest in a pecking order which groups tend to develop; and groups need someone who is lowest, so maybe that’s why she is tolerated. Or perhaps people just feel sorry for her. Hard to say without knowing her myself. It could also be that she has other more positive characteristics that you don’t see, Dot. On Monday three days after the Supreme Court issued its groundbreaking decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist, took a call from a colleague, a child abuse doctor in Ohio.

Could Bernard help?

I’m with the Kouk on this one, I don’t know why people are pulling their hair out over a coming recession.

Apart from war and short-term factors, inflation is high partly because the labour market is tight, and the labour market is tight because immigration is way down post-COVID. The price of everything is going up in Western countries, including labour, because there isn’t a supply of immigrants to do the low-paid crappy jobs that help run the economy.

This situation is not supposed to be the precursor to a recession. It causes some problems, but a recession should not be one of them… unless the stock market busts for some reason.

The doctor has to make a decision about the rest of their career, and the 10-year-old rape victim doesn’t have a strong enough case under SCOTUS law. You’re just making this up.

Evidently it did not, otherwise she would have had the abortion in Ohio instead of Indiana.

This story continues to be unverifiable because of child protection laws.

The law in Ohio allows for protection of the mother’s health. “No it doesn’t because Ohio medical regulation I have not read demands 10 year old rape victims give birth!!!11”

This is what your “HaTiNG WoMEn!!!” insanity boils down to. Your unfounded assertions and the self interest of an abortion doctor.

but the villain here is the law, not the doctor who doesn’t want to get sued out of the profession.

Who is going to sue him monty? What is the mystery Ohio medical regulation that regards minors giving birth as safe?

You insane, desperate shill.

I would expect that a ten year old giving birth would fit this description.

Yes. I would apply that to any child under fourteen, possibly fifteen or sixteen in some cases.
Very young women can be quite physically damaged by a childbirth. Pregnancy, and especially birth itself, puts extraordinary strains on the female body, and much more so if that body is immature.

It is also a very cruel thing to put a child through in emotional terms.
Definitely child abuse on top of the rape of a ten year old.

Your whole answer to this story – which is perfectly believable given the legal situation – is “it didn’t happen”. That’s your entire argument.

The cognitive dissonance, it burns you.

I would just buy them a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate if anything.

If they haven’t got the vim, vigour, dash and personal drive to at least sit there and sing Midnight Oil covers, and to the accompaniment of clinking empty VB stubbies, they get nothing from me.

Show some initiative.

The blaming is a little intellectually lazy sometimes compared the effort it takes to demonstrate alternatives.

We’re always talking about ‘alternatives’ here which have been tried, tested and proved to be very successful

It is touching that you lot maintain some faith in public institutions in red states to protect vulnerable girls in these horrific situations, but they just don’t. Because they are controlled by Republicans who hate women. This is a direct result of Dobbs, there is no wriggling out of it through technicalities. This is what the law was meant to do. No exceptions, no backsies, no get out of jail free cards. Carry your rapist’s child to term as an 11-year-old mother or get out of the state.

No, that is one of three/four parts to my argument.

The other two are that you are making shit up about the medical board rules in Ohio (as the law never banned abortions for dangerous pregnancies) which you refuse to verify or substantiate and you are relying on the self interest of an abortionist.

She had to leave the state to get an abortion, Dot. That is fact.

You can keep on keening like a banshee, but the facts in this story aren’t going to change. There will be countless stories like this in red states in years to come. It will be commonplace. This is the obvious and inevitable consequence of repealing Roe. It was always going to happen this way.

Dobbs already causing the worst case scenario: a 10-year-old rape victim who risks jail for trying to seek an abortion under Republican law.

Everyone involved in the project to repeal Roe hates women.

A few months ago I found that happening for the first time and switched to viewing Twitter feeds (such as the delightful Rita Panahi‘s) in a private browser tab. It appears to have no restrictions for a non-logged-in viewer. It worked as of this afternoon but may not work forever.

Not working for me, after a few scrolls down the message appears.
Tried both private and open browsers, VPN, and without, no luck.
Doesn’t matter not going to join.

Hmm. Variation in milage. I do get the signup/login pop-up as I scroll but can then just clear it and continue. Seems to work for me across various browsers and devices. Not sure what other variables there may be lurking beneath the surface.

She had to leave the state to get an abortion, Dot. That is fact.

You cannot prove that was necessary (you in fact refuse to “verify” your assertion that Ohio medical practice forbids what the state legislation explicitly allows) or that it even happened.

It is not a fact at all.

Who refused the abortion in Ohio?

It is not surprising at all that the unnamed “child abuse doctor in Ohio” didn’t want to put the child through a long and costly process which may have involved the courts and dragged out for months. She needed the abortion now to minimise the damage.

The practicalities of such a situation do not allow for thumb-sucking speculation. You get the thing done.

The price of everything is going up in Western countries, including labour, because there isn’t a supply of immigrants to do the low-paid crappy jobs that help run the economy.

The people who would previously have done those jobs are now encouraged to get useless “degrees” in social “science”, gender studies, J’ism and basket weaving. Because they become essentially unemployable, they they become public servants who push for more immigrants to do the jobs they should be doing.

You can bold your text Dot, but you’re just blustering. The 10-year-old rape victim had to travel out of Ohio to get an abortion, due to laws put in place by Republicans which did not make exceptions for her situation. She was lucky that she had that opportunity. Others won’t be so fortunate.
