Paul Godfrey Fenech, 65, is facing multiple child sex and molestation charges after a man, now aged in his 50s, made a statement to police last year alleging he was raped and assaulted at Fenech’s Berkshire Park farm in 1980.

23 year old and 13 year old.

“Why are you running away?,” one protester yelled as he followed the Premier to his big red campaign bus.

“Can I get on the bus with you?

“I hope he’s not driving, or his wife.”

That sort of thing is only funny if the Chaser “boys” do it to conservative politicians.

Yes. Toyota believe that electric is one solution, not ‘the’ solution and for what its worth, I think they are correct. They are having a very serious look at hydrogen and have invested a lot of money in that area.

Similarly, other Japanese manufacturers are also deep into fuel cell research (plus a few others in Europe). The broad consensus among them seems to be that the sheer number of lithium mines and processing facilities (not to mention nickel, graphite etc) that are needed in the next 10-15 years is almost impossible to achieve.

Fenech’s brother got Life for rape and murder of a Male back in the 1980s.
It may have been another brother, but if it was this one, then there wasn’t much point bringing Charges when he was already doing Life.

Justice Nicholas Chen agreed to grant Fenech bail, noting he suffered from several medical conditions which required treatment.

Under the terms of the bail, Fenech was to live at an address in St Peters, report to police daily and abide by a curfew not to leave his home unless for medical or legal appointments.

Jeez that’s harsh. An offence that ALLEGEDLY occurred 40 years ago and for the next year or so, the defendant has to report to police every day (!) and is subject to a curfew.

Kempsey was the scene of my worst ever defeat, in yr 12, when we played them at soccer. I was captain of our B side. We lost 8 nil and I was sent off.

Bowen and rub and tug are going to fix energy prices, by force if the producers don’t cooperate.
FMD are they going to force companies to operate at a loss? What about shareholders?
Will they overturn the international price guarantee given to oil and gas companies, by legislation, in the 80’s and 90’s?
If they proceed I think we will need a bigger Supreme court as the legal challenges will go on for many years, long after Labor are gone.

To achieve what has been mandated for 2035 will require a gobsmacking amount of effort and money.

Here’s the thing: in QLD’s case it’s been estimated by the Energy Minister’s own department that we’ll require 3 times our current generating capacity by 2030 if we’re to “decarbonise” and power economic growth. But there aren’t enough renewables projects in the pipeline at present to achieve that expansion of supply, let alone replace what will be taken out of the system before then as coal fired generators are retired or closed.

Bandt: Look at a windfall profits tax
Amaani Siddeek
AMAANI SIDDEEK

A windfall profit tax needs to be put “on the table”, Greens leader Adam Bandt has urged after Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles shot down the suggestion.

Mr Bandt said if Labor was “serious” about addressing Australia’s worsening energy crisis and was committed to exploring “all options” then the Government couldn’t afford to ignore implementing a windfall profit tax.

“Greedy corporations are making obscene profits off the back of the pain of everyday people,” Mr Bandt told reporters on Friday.

The Greens have proposed that a windfall profit tax could be used to fund the transition from gas to renewable energy.

However, Mr Marles dismissed the proposal saying that the tax would fail to provide the necessary immediate relief consumers are looking for.

“I’ve heard others in the government say that all options are on the table,” Mr Bandt said. “This one should be as well because it will tackle power bills and that’s what is needed.”

Elon Musk announces Twitter mass layoffs to begin Friday

All employees will receive an email on Friday, the notice said. Those who will keep their jobs will get an email to their work account, those being laid off will receive a notification to their personal email. Employees were reminded not to disclose “confidential company information” on social media or with press.

The layoffs come as Musk was speculated to cut as much as 50% of Twitter’s workforce, just days after becoming the head of the company he purchased for $44bn. That could mean thousands of jobs lost, as the company had more than 7,000 employees at the end of 2021 according to a regulatory filing.

Twitter said in the email to employees that its offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended in order “to help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data”.

Another not guilty. From The Telegraph….

Max Cleary: jury acquits man of rape charge

A jury has delivered a not guilty verdict in the rape trial of a Sydney landscaper whose father was a former Manly Sea Eagles CEO and an esteemed Catholic school headmaster.

A jury has found a Sydney landscaper whose father was a Manly Sea Eagles CEO not guilty of raping a woman he met on a dating app.

Max Cleary, 25, was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in respect of allegations he digitally penetrated a woman and then had sex with her without her consent on his friend’s bathroom floor on August 15, 2020.

Cleary, who had remained steadfastly collected during the trial, was in floods of tears after the verdict was read aloud at Downing District Court. Loud gasps of relief, followed by tears, emanated from his family. From the dock, Cleary turned to his famous father and nodded slightly with a smile as his gathered family hugged one another. Outside the courthouse, Cleary made a purposeful exit away from what was, as Judge Nicole Norman said, an “emotionally high” nine-day-long proceedings, but did say it was “great” to hear the not guilty verdict and he was “feeling good”.

He had pleaded not guilty to both charges and maintained their sexual encounter was mutual and consensual – and that he had bought condoms at the woman’s request.

The jury took about six hours to deliver their not guilty verdict.

There was no dispute the Manly landscaper and the woman had met on dating app Hinge, met in person for the first time at Kuleto’s cocktail bar in Newtown, then retired to his friend’s Camperdown home afterwards.

There was also no dispute they had sex on his friend’s bathroom floor.

Cleary consistently denied raping the woman, saying in his evidence they were “both active participants” in the sexual act and that he had ducked out to buy condoms at 7/11 at her request.

However, the woman had maintained she had pushed Cleary away, shook her head and said “no, no, no” before he raped her, then put her in the shower.

She then booked an Uber and went directly to Ashfield police station to make a complaint.

Early in the trial, the jury saw harrowing footage of the woman dropping to her knees as she entered the police station, dropping her head to her hands.”

Note how the journalist added the descriptor “esteemed Catholic school headmaster”? Now what this has to do with the price of fish I’ll never know but it’s just another case of the MSM smearing Catholics and Catholicism and trying to tie both to any sordid scandal or trial. Disgraceful. Anyway, well done to the young Mr Cleary, let’s hope he can move on with his life and not be bitter (although I wouldn’t blame him). I’d also like to offer him some free advice, firstly, there are nice decent girls out there; secondly, don’t meet and have sex with girls on a dating app; thirdly, if you do choose to meet girls on a dating app, why not get to know the girl first, wait some months and then maybe have sex; and finally, try not to have sex on a bathroom floor, not very comfortable.

None of this is rocket science.

They’ve been trying this for a long time, but my impression over about 30 years of watching is Saudi doesn’t have very much in the way of prospective ore deposits.

I’ve flown over the Arabian Peninsula and spent a small amount of time in the Persian Gulf states. Plenty of rocky mountains in amongst the miles of sand dunes where I suspect there would be mineral deposits. Honestly I don’t know too much about it, my time in that part of the world was transiting to the ‘stans. Biggest problem with the Saudis is the nepotism, corruption, that comes from someone I met who worked for Aramco both with US then Saudi administrations. I’d imagine any joint venture would be loaded to the hilts with connected Saudi employees that do nothing but get in the road. Then there’s the way the Saudis just change agreements at a whim, the guy I knew working for Aramco had a guaranteed pension in GBP under the US that was dumped by the Saudis for a lump sum payout. The stickler is muslim employees weren’t touched even if they weren’t Saudi.

I’d imagine there is a lot more problems like this to get over before any western company becomes interested. Adam Piggott just did a stint there, he’d be the man to ask.

I was watching some Fox News today and they showed some polls about “What were high issues for voters”. Surprised me a little that abortion was at 40% and gun control was at 38%. I hadn’t seen that before. Abortion is usually “way down the list”.

It sort of makes me think that perhaps the Democrats have totally misread the polling (hence the abortion push as a major issue for their campaign).

Abortion as a “high issue” could well be pro lifers. Ditto the guns and NRA members. They didn’t really explain the questions asked, and whom to.

No doubt the Democrat pollsters have the in-depth information however, I’m guessing that they had to “pick an issue” to run with, and abortion was the only one that favoured them (rather than the economy, inflation, the border e.t.c).

They settled on abortion and “democracy” as their only hope to bandage the bleeding.

the problem here is that they have made this a life destroying sentence for the accused and given women the power to potential destroy a male.

these kinds of accusations, are in fact minor infractions, we are not talking about being dragged down a dark alley by a total stranger. we are talking about minor disagreement over consent, pressured into sex or or in many cases buyers remorse.the punishment does not fit the crime. the male if convicted has his life destroyed. too many women are ruthless in wanting to punish males to protect their reputations.

It’s worse than that. Over the last fifty years, the sexual act has been cheapened, coarsened and vulgarised by rampant pornography and promiscuity, and too often young males and females find themselves in demeaning situations like young Mr Cleary and the female, having just met and then having sex on a cold bathroom floor.

No, sex is supposed to be an intimate act of love and respect. We need to teach young people this.

You would pretty much think that in the US the abortion debate has been nullified by term limits and “exceptions” by Republican states. And here is where the big companies, NGO’s and Government itself has “shot itself in the foot”. They actually offered to pay to take women interstate, pay board and lodging plus other costs. They really overplayed their hand on this one.

I doubt there are too many women in the US who are fearful they won’t be able to get an abortion if they want one. The left itself has already nullified the issue they are now running an entire election campaign on.

Patrol Boat was made before Bush Tucker Man. Both were on the ABC.

Les Hiddins is a… complex yet uninteresting character. In my opinion, were he on the Cat he’d be the most acidic & loathed commenter here. In my experience he has one helluva temper, far worse than Slim Dusty’s (& that is saying something) and is unreasonable to the point of jaw-dropping obtuseness.

Never mind people under 40 not recognising him, I’m not sure anybody who last image of Hiddins was on TV would be able to recognise him today. Skin tone has gone, weight is outta control, the pretty boy impish face put on for the cameras (any camera) is long gone, replaced by a sour visage more in keeping with his outlook.

I agree…which is why I think males and females need to be taught to avoid situations like Cleary and the women found themselves in. And particularly males, because all it takes is a shamed bitter female to go to the police and lodge a rape accusation. Religious people, of any religious persuasion, don’t “hook up” in a bar and they don’t go back to a mate’s place and have sex on a bold bathroom floor…..something that probably wasn’t very satisfying for either the male or the female.

‘I know who I am’: Labor candidate hits back over identity questions
Bianca Hall
By Bianca Hall
November 4, 2022 — 6.38pm

Labor’s candidate for the crucial marginal seat of Richmond has hit out at public questioning of her claim to Yorta Yorta heritage, including from members of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria.

Lauren O’Dwyer, whose family hails from Echuca, describes herself as a proud Yorta Yorta woman, tracing her ancestry to her great-grandfather.

An online campaign, largely led by Aboriginal people, has built over the past week, questioning both O’Dwyer’s Aboriginality and her ties to the Yorta Yorta community.

Yorta Yorta country stretches over a large area on both sides of the Murray River in northern Victoria and southern NSW.

“I know who I am, and I’m proud of who I am,” O’Dwyer told The Age. “I’ve never misrepresented or over-represented my heritage. I’ll always be learning.

“And there are many fair-skinned Aboriginal people in this country that will for the rest of their lives be learning more and more about their identities. And I’m just disappointed that my mum has to witness this.”

She holds a Confirmation of Aboriginality from the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation, seen by The Age, which is signed by elders Barbara Day and Richard Ronnan.

“It is hereby confirmed that the above named is of Aboriginal Descent, identifies as an Aboriginal and is accepted as such by the community in which they live,” the papers state.

Among the criticisms made of O’Dwyer on social media are that local communities don’t know her. For her part, O’Dwyer points out she moved to Melbourne some 20 years ago, and her family connections to community were disrupted several generations ago.

The Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation declined to comment.

Two First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria members, Tracey Evans – who is also a member of the Stolen Generations Redress Scheme’s Independent Assesment Panel – and Ngarra Murray, have joined the calls for O’Dwyer to demonstrate her links to Yorta Yorta community.

“We have a political candidate running in the state election who is claiming Yorta Yorta but no one knows them,” Murray said on Twitter.

“Our identity is being watered dow [sic] by people who are falsely claiming Aboriginal status. We see so many people claiming to be one of us, without any experience or understanding of what it truly means to be Yorta Yorta.

“This is a real impact on Aboriginal people & our daily lives. It’s clear that a lot of people who are claiming Aboriginal status now did not before, which raises concerns in our communities about why people are doing this and what it means for our own identities.”

Evans posted on O’Dwyer’s campaign Facebook page: “Who’s your mob? No one Yorta Yorta knows.”

There are two Aboriginal corporations on Yorta Yorta land than can affirm people’s Aboriginal ancestry through “papers”: the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Njernda Aboriginal Corporation. O’Dwyer’s papers confirming her Aboriginality are from the latter.

In a statement, O’Dwyer said: “These attacks are hurtful and uninformed – and make no mistake, they are political in nature.

“Aboriginal identity is complex. I came to know my identity late in life because my family didn’t speak of it. It was a secret held too long, and I mourn for what my family missed out on.

“I look to Aboriginal people strong in their culture and identity with longing and hope that my family can get there one day.”

Our brains principally rely on sugar.

The mammalian brain depends upon glucose as its main source of energy, and tight regulation of glucose metabolism is critical for brain physiology. Consistent with its critical role for physiological brain function, disruption of normal glucose metabolism as well as its interdependence with cell death pathways forms the pathophysiological basis for many brain disorders. Here, we review recent advances in understanding how glucose metabolism sustains basic brain physiology. We aim at synthesizing these findings to form a comprehensive picture of the cooperation required between different systems and cell types, and the specific breakdowns in this cooperation which lead to disease.

The mammalian brain depends on glucose as its main source of energy. In the adult brain, neurons have the highest energy demand [1], requiring continuous delivery of glucose from blood. In humans, the brain accounts for ~2% of the body weight, but it consumes ~20% of glucose-derived energy making it the main consumer of glucose (~5.6 mg glucose per 100 g human brain tissue per minute [2]).

Neurons and cancer cells are among the cell types that rely almost exclusively on glucose metabolism for energy generation,

Neuroglycopenia is a neurodevelopmental syndrome characterized by mental retardation or developmental delay, anomalous coordination and muscle tone, as well as thalamocortical hypometabolism [83]. This syndrome is further characterized by infantile drug-resistant seizures, developmental retardation and microcephaly in many cases

Our brains principally rely on sugar.

1) We used to think that, but there is increasing evidence that brain can burn ketones.

https://youtu.be/qSAiVROezRs

2) So what?… we are quite capable of making as much glucose as we need using raw materials from fat and protein metabolism. My point is that we are evolved to consume *very little* carbohydrate (indeed, we can live quite healthily without consuming any carbs at all), yet the modern diet floods our bloodstream with sugar, much more than is needed, and the excess is turned into fat.

I for one found my mental acuity and stamina *markedly* increased when I went off the carbs.

Daniel Andrews has been heckled by two men ….

You can be sure that counter measures are being organised tonight.

In future, all appearances will be pre emptively scoped by two or three large fellows who will identify any looming threats and take them by the elbows as they help them out of earshot.

It’s a measure of Matthew Guy’s unimportance that no one has to tail his caravan around and yell at him. Why bother.

Lead Scout to Major, was that a first

Things were going too slowly on the advance from Nadzab to Lae so Brig Gen Eather went to the front to see what the problem was. He grabbed a section of diggers and was off. Sometime later a WO encountered him and pointed out that Brigadiers really shouldn’t be lead scout for an entire brigade.

We have a winner!!

Reading the article, I note BGEN Eather was promoted to MAJGEN in 1945, so technically it was Lead Scout to Major (General) – extra points for that.

I note Pat Cummins has the Alinta emblem on the shirt. Now Khawaja is possibly the laziest cricketer in the world, but at least he had the courage of his conviction but at least he stood for something he believed in which was to have the VB sponsorship removed from his attire

BB, I think that was where he was headed.
But the public backlash came as a shock.
I reckon he either backed down and/or Alinta gave them an “all in or the money walks” warning.

A Friendly Letter To The Foes of the Republic

NO ONE BELIEVES YOU. Not even a little bit. If you could read the room you could sense that. All of these articles on how long it will take (to count the vote), how wrong the first counting will be is just making people pissed off.

It’s kind of like that brilliant article asking for “amnesty” for things done during the Covidiocy. It might have worked fine if the entire nation had gone amnesiac. But in fact what it did was bring back memories we were trying to forget. AND NOW WE’RE AWARE AND REALLY ANGRY.

It’s the same thing. You THINK you got away with the soft coup in 2020. You stole the elections fair and square. And despite all your fears, no one has shot your skanky *sses into the next century. You put up all the barricades, you practically invited us to boog. And we didn’t. So you think you got away with it.

You didn’t get away with diddly squat. Your own polls should tell you that. As much as our side tries to avoid answering polls, (because we don’t trust them further than we can throw them, and have you seen the weight of some of those pollsters?) a majority of the country thinks you stole the election in 2020.

Should Terrorists Who Damage Great Works of Art Face the Death Penalty?

Fantastic piece and the author is wholly correct. Hint: the answer is, “Yes, yes, they should”.

Indulge these illiterate innumerate staggeringly ignorant fact and evidence free anti-scientific imbeciles and you are encouraging their unrelenting idiocy (not to mention the destruction of a civilization), being as they are, braindead pieces of excrement that should never have been vomited into existence in the first place.

There is a monumental uncivilised utterly preposterous totalitarian ugliness besieging what is left of “Western Civilisation” that will triumph in our lifetimes.

The speed of the decline we’ve witnessed in the last twenty years is now increasing exponentially.

Witness the rapid advance of the all encompassing degeneracy we’ve been flooded with in the last five years alone.

Mass murder of “useless eaters” and the glorification of paedophilia are an eyeblink away.

My point is that we are evolved to consume *very little* carbohydrate (indeed, we can live quite healthily without consuming any carbs at all), yet the modern diet floods our bloodstream with sugar, much more than is needed, and the excess is turned into fat.

and causes metabolic syndrome and diabetes

The fact that hunter gatherers are known to have high carb intake contradicts the claim. Given the x4 increase in brain sugar transporters over other primates the claim makes no sense. Vegetarians typically have a low fat-high carb intake and have a 20% reduction in CVD pathology. Generalizing from evolutionary theory about optimal diets is a bad idea. The problem is sugar loading in the absence of physical activity. That’s when the damage happens. Microglia, the immune cells in the brain, can generate inflammation with high fat loading. The liver will generate sugar from lipids(glucogenesis).

Metabolic syndrome arises from excess calorie intake from any source. Obesity is the primary driver of METs not carbs. If carbs caused METS most athletes would have NAFLD.

Conclusions: This comprehensive meta-analysis reports a significant protective effect of a vegetarian diet versus the incidence and/or mortality from ischemic heart disease (-25%) and incidence from total cancer (-8%). Vegan diet conferred a significant reduced risk (-15%) of incidence from total cancer.

That has been found multiple times. The downside is nutrient depletion, especially choline, DHA, and some V vits. both of which are vital for a healthy brain. Choline is a substrate for acetylcholine production and ACH generally reduces inflammation in the brain. DHA also has that role. The most abundant excitatory neurotransmitter, glutamate, is made from sugar so GABA the primary inhibitory transmitter must also depend on sugar availability because it is produced from glutamate The caveat is that vegetarians are often much more health conscious than the general population.

It is not enough to think about evolutionary impacts or energy substrates, we must also think about immune responses to dietary and lifestyle factors because inflammation is the most common underlying factor is many pathological states.

The problem isn’t carbs alone. It is bloody Ancel Keys and the decades long refusal by the medical profession to recognise the stupidity of his arguments(if not outright fraud).

Obviously this is all very difficult material to understand. If you think intuiting and extrapolating from general principles is the way to go you need to go back to square one.

no it doesn’t. read what you wrote yourself. excess carbs. you can consume carbs all you like so long as you burn them up. note how hunter gatherers are highly active. sedentary people should stick to low carb to be safe.

Athletes who for example burn 4000 calories a day can safely consume proportional amounts of carbs.
