North Korea appears to have launched another ICBM, according to Japanese media. The missile appears on a lofted trajectory from launch site near Pyongyang and is expected to splash down 210kms west of Hokkaido at 1120, according to Japan Coast Guard via NHK

I have no idea why people are bellyaching about women post-mid terms.

Yep, many of the elections were stolen. Doesn’t matter how people vote. Arizona is the most glaring example.

m0nty=fa has still had nothing to say about the blatant DemonRat suppression of GOP voters in Arizona, particularly in Maricopa County. He seems quite relaxed when the DemonRats actually suppress GOP voters, but gets hysterical about supposed “voter suppression” when Republicans suggest voter ID should be required.

I studied Australian conscription in HSC, no coverage that I can recall of the women’s groups that actively opposed conscription so that was interesting to learn.

It’s abundantly clear that, if Biden himself – flanked by HRC, his VP and the Speaker of the House – stood up in front of a million people and were recorded saying “You got us, we totally cheated in the elections; what we engaged in was criminal, illegal and entirely consistent with the allegations made against us”, the speed at which Gommers and the rest of the insufferable left would come back with a reason the group didn’t say what they clearly said or that “of course everyone knew all along, no one denied it and it was actually a good thing” would be so fast as to cast the physics Standard Model completely aside and undermine the nature of causality.

I got the impression Dot might have backpedalled a little on women being responsible for men dying in WWI and WWII.

I implied it was a WWI thing, if at all. Not just women though. The theme was really male disposability in 20th century western nations, “to defend democracy”.

It’s not a new trope, cf “Johnny Get Your Gun”.

I studied Australian conscription in HSC, no coverage that I can recall of the women’s groups that actively opposed conscription so that was interesting to learn.

Why would that be?

Dot if most white feathers were distributed anonymously by mail as I said on the last page I could be akin to Sleeping Giant email bombing, ie very few and possibly involving men as well as women.
I read somewhere back a while while there was no formal conscription in WWI there was a lot of pressure put on by some sort of travelling military boards, I can’t find the linky atm.
Most of what I remember was the sectarian nature of the pro and anti sides and Daniel Mannix.
Maybe in the 1970s when the curriculum was set the women’s involvement wasn’t seen as as important as the class/religious issues.
Having said that some members on the Catholic sides of my family did enlist, two to become whispering men, which was probably better than the two Protestants who just got to become part of the soil of Poziers.

Now try to Google how many women were in the white feather mob.

Not involved in the initial discussion so sorry if repeating anything. I have always thought that the white feather brigade brought much undeserved shame on many people. Of my own grandfathers, one joined up because he had no job, family to support and thought that conscription was coming anyway. The other went to great lengths to tell us grandkids that he tried to sign up twice but was knocked back as an essential worker as his job as an engineer/blacksmith making bearings. The one that didn’t go was quite chuffed (I think in the 90s) to get some sort of certificate acknowledging him as an essential worker. I think it meant a lot to him.

On my wife’s side, a decision was made for one son (her uncle) to join up and the other (her father) to stay and work on the farm. Her father did not marry for many many years and said he did not feel right stepping out with girls while other men were off fighting. He would avoid talking about the war years but his brother would openly talk about his time.

Shame is very powerful and can be very cruel.

It would a fantastical load of ahistorical horse shit bearing no resemblance to reality, even accidentally/coincidentally, as well as conveniently omitting the bits where he gets to play snitch and dob his neighbores and family (he clearly doesn’t have any friends) into the secret police.

Although the most glaring omission (given it would shorten the narrative somewhat) would be the part where the fervent mob come for him in the first few days, given he’s so obviously a petit bourgeois capitalist oppressor of various marginalised groups.

Have 2 great uncles, one went off and the younger stayed to look after the farm and also look after his brothers fiancée.

Brother returned from the war to find the younger brother had chiselled him out of the farm and was rooting his now ex.
Apparently he bailed them both up with a 303 and informed them he was taking off and would never see them again. And also that the only reason they were still drawing breath was because he had decided they could.

My grandfather was ‘gassed’ and suffered ‘shellshock’ in France. When he came back from the war he suffered bouts of epilepsy. My father never mentioned it but from what I gather from other family members his relationships with his children suffered enormously.

My Mothers uncle died in France. His name is on the Stanley (Tasmania) memorial. Her father gave my mother the middle name ‘Laurence’ in remembrance of him as she was the last kid likely to be born.

So yes they were lucky to survive but the effects of the war carried on for decades after.

Seems BAT FLU lockdowns are well behind us if the drop off in cyclists on my regular rides are anything to go by .. during the lockdown(s) I’d encounter anything up to 100 bikes to & froing along the two tracks I use .. Pre BAT FLU I could count on one hand the number of folk I’d encounter in a week and now the numbers are back down to that level .. Even “mums wiv bubs” and other walkers (never had any joggers tho) have almost disappeared ..
Must be a hell of a lot near new bikes gathering dust in garages/sheds around here .. LOL!
On a brighter note! .. the local outdoor 50mts pool has re-opened after 4 months refurbishing so I can walk to swim twice a week and only have to ride to Fairfield once a week instead of the 3 times I have been doing …….!

Bruce O’Newk:
The US right is in the position of a man in a crowd who is getting punched in the back.
He can’t tell who is doing it and whenever he turns to confront his assailant, he is met with a few grinning faces. The objective is to make him lose his temper and punch an obviously innocent bystander so the instigators in the crowd have a video record of his ‘unreasoned’ assault.
We saw the technique done repeatedly in the Antifa riots – in fact one of Rittenhouses assailants was video taped running through a similar sequence when he tried to murder him. I forget which one it was – perhaps the one who copped a round to the arm. Approaches Rittenhouse who is on the ground while aiming a hand gun at him and starts to swing it to aim. Realises Rittenhouse is going to beat him to the shot and starts to do the spread arm “Surrender” pose. Rittenhouse says no way you’re going to get behind me for a sucker head shot and shoots.
Andy Ngo got similar treatment with the milkshakes, and so did multiple coppers – buckets and bottles of water thrown at them, and the last bucket full of boiling water perhaps?
America needs to realise it is in a civil war already and the enemy are State actors and their cronies.
The Brown Pants Mob still haven’t been sorted out yet – yes, the claim is they are Feds, but in the Byzantine world of revolutionary militias, I’ll bet a substantial amount there are multiple cutouts between them and the FBI so that when the bloke in the crowd finally lashes out, they’ll all be members of the same Stitch and Bitch Club, on their way to a quiet weekend at a Monastery or similar.

Contracts signed for $550m Australian War Memorial revamp

The Australian War Memorial’s $550m development project is set to begin in a matter of weeks following the signing of contracts with the last of three main construction partners, clearing the way for the renovation to be completed by 2028.

Lendlease, Kane Constructions and Hindmarsh were selected to proceed with the three separate works packages and inked official agreements with the AWM this week.

“This is an exciting milestone for everyone working on the development as it will allow the contractors to bring each of the three stages into reality,” AWM director Matt Anderson said.

Canberra-based construction company Kane Constructions will manage the AWM’s Southern Entry, while Hindmarsh was handed responsibility for the CEW Bean Building extension and Lendlease given the job of constructing the new Anzac Hall.

The CEW Bean Building was named after the official war correspondent and driving force behind the creation of the AWM in Canberra, Charles Edwin Woodrow Bean.

“Charles Bean wanted to create a memorial, an archive and a museum, and the building works embody this vision,” Mr Anderson said.

“In a fitting finish, the roof of the new Anzac Hall takes its inspiration from the iconic Australian rising sun badge.”

Lendlease will also be responsible for delivering the glazed link with a translucent roof connecting the heritage building and new Anzac Hall, providing more than 7000sq m of new exhibition space.

Cranes are expected to be onsite by next week, with the Southern Entrance to be completed by 2024 and the whole project to be finished within the next six years.

The milestone comes amid controversy over the memorial’s announcement that it would include greater recognition of the “frontier wars” in its galleries, in reference to massacres of Indigenous Australians during colonisation.

Opposition veterans’ affairs spokesman Barnaby Joyce has been lobbying the AWM against the move and confirmed he had met with representatives as recently as November 11. “The sentiment from the public is that they don’t want this in the Australian War Memorial,” Mr Joyce said.

“It’s not that they don’t agree that there were massacres and acknowledge they are a blight and disgrace, there are just vastly more appropriate places for that to be (displayed).”

Under questioning from Nationals senator Matt Canavan at senate estimates, Mr Anderson said the AWM hadn’t sought legal advice on whether displaying materials from the frontier wars was a breach of its Act, which laid out the original intent of the memorial, since 2013.

What of the inconvenient truth that more then one of those “Frontier massacres” was fully investigated, and found to be nothing more then “Stories my Nanna told me?”

The Washington Post’s Mensa Invitational once again invited readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are the winners:

Cashtration(n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

Intaxicaton: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn’t get it.

Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Culture, and paying respects to elders past, present and emerging (the NT Independent):

One of the five teens involved in ramming police vehicles with stolen cars in Katherine on Wednesday night was released on bail despite police objections just hours before the incident, the NT Independent can reveal.

The teen, 14, cannot be named under NT law, but sources familiar with the incident and the suspects told the NT Independent the teen is considered the ring leader of the group who targeted police during the reckless rampage down Katherine’s main street.

The teen, who has a long criminal history, was arrested for his alleged involvement in stealing cars earlier in the week, but granted bail by Chief Judge Elizabeth Morris on Wednesday.

NT Police had strongly urged Chief Judge Morris not to grant the bail.

Hours later, officers and their police cars were being targeted by the teen and four others who stole two vehicles and smashed them into the police cars that were parked on the side of the road.

Katherine residents are right this second giving the big thumbs up to Chief Judge Morris.

From Advance:

This Sunday, hundreds of angry landowners will meet in a tiny community hall in Gilmore, NSW – about a four and half hour drive from Sydney.

They’re trying to stop a $4 billion renewable energy transmission line that is tearing their communities apart.

Led by farmer Bill Kingwill, these salt-of-the-earth Aussies don’t want the 360-kilometre-long HumeLink destroying their farms.

They don’t want transmission towers as tall as the Sydney Harbour Bridge running through their paddocks.

They don’t want a foreign owned company cutting a 70-metre-wide scar through their communities.

And they don’t want 2500 hectares of valuable Australian land destroyed – just to ferry renewable energy to Sydney.

They don’t want it because they know that not only will it gouge a great scar through their farms, it is actually going to cause their energy bills to skyrocket.

They know that renewables cannot provide baseload power.

They understand that they pay for the construction of these new transmission lines with their taxes and they’ll also be paying more when the power bills get dropped in their letterboxes.

So, who does benefit?

Well, the Teal voters feel good about saving the world and woke, crony capitalist clean up via subsidies and carbon credits.

That’s who wins, that’s the scam, and you PAY FOR IT.

Where are the politicians who have the guts to stand up and fight this scam?

The likes of Matt Canavan and Alex Antic do, but where is Peter Dutton?

What happened to the Liberal Party that used to fight on principles?

And while governments state and federal play their ‘Net Zero’ games, ordinary Australians are copping it with higher grocery bills, higher interest rates and power bills that are off the charts.

After its initial $25/sh bid for copper-nickel mid-tier Oz Minerals (ASX:OZL) was rebuffed for not being exciting enough, BHP (ASX:BHP) played it cool with ‘it’s fine, you’d be nice to have but we don’t need you’.

That wasn’t exactly true. BHP are now back at the table with a far shinier, $28.5/sh offer and, this time, OZ is keen. OZ chairman, Rebecca McGrath says the revised proposal from BHP followed a period of “board-level engagement” which secured a circa $1.1 billion increase to the initial offer.

The share price briefly touched new offer levels in January this year. Before that, the last time OZ hit $28.5 was mid-2008.

Long suffering shareholders rejoice.

BHP will now conduct four weeks of exclusive due diligence, which will kick off next Monday. If all goes well the miners will ink a binding scheme implementation agreement, after which the OZ board will unanimously recommend the deal to shareholders in the absence of a superior proposal.

BHP says this is their best and final offer.

Dolly Parton and Queen Elizabeth went to the Pearly Gates on the same day.

They both met with an angel to find out if they would be admitted to Heaven.

The angel said “Unfortunately, there’s only one space in Heaven today so I must decide which one of you will be admitted”.

The angel asked Dolly if there was some particular reason why she should go to Heaven. Dolly took off her top and said “Look at these! They’re the most perfect breasts God ever created and I’m sure it will please God to be able to see them every day, for eternity”.

The angel thanked Dolly, and asked Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the same question.

The Queen walked over to a toilet, pulled the lever and flushed it without saying a word.

The Angel immediately said “Okay, your Majesty, you may go into Heaven”.

Dolly was outraged and asked “What was that all about? I showed you two of God’s own perfect creations and you turned me down. She simply flushed a commode and she got admitted to Heaven! Would you explain that to me?

“Sorry, Dolly” said the Angel “but even in Heaven, a royal flush beats a pair!”

John Ray III has no problem identifying a company that’s rotten to its core. He’s the lawyer who’s been appointed as CEO to clean up the FTX mess and the guy who was appointed to oversee Enron’s liquidation process.

John Ray III thinks FTX is in worse shape than Enron.

“I have over 40 years of legal and restructuring experience,” Ray said in an updated, 30-page bankruptcy filing for the crypto exchange. “I have been the chief restructuring officer or chief executive officer in several of the largest corporate failures in history …. never in my career have I seen such a complete failure of corporate controls and such a complete absence of trustworthy financial information as occurred here.”

Some highlights:

Employees submitted expense reimbursements over a chat app. A random supervisor accepted or rejected the payments using an emoji. In fact, few records of any description, were kept and most decisions were made over chat with messages automatically deleting over time.

Alameda Research – FTX’s trading firm and hedge fund – gave Sam Bankman-Fried a US$1 billion personal loan. They also loaned Director of Engineering Nishad Singh US$543 million.

The US$32 billion company (at its peak) never held board meetings, had no cash-management system and no proper records of who it employed. Management had no idea how much cash was on hand at any given time, or even where all their cash was.

The firm’s corporate funds were used to purchase personal use real estate. And employees and executives put their names on homes purchased with company funds.

Customer-deposited crypto wasn’t recorded on the FTX balance sheet.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the crypto world these rumours are circulating (validity unknown): Crypto lender Genesis seeks $US1 billion emergency loan by Monday and, Binance US is planning to acquire bankrupt crypto lender Voyager, who had been bailed out by FTX.

From: Gregory Hood/Unz Review:
Failure in the MidTerms

At least some voters turned out to defend abortion specifically. A plurality of 31 percent of voters said inflation was the most important issue, but abortion wasn’t far behind at 27 percent. In Pennsylvania, those polled said abortion was the top issue, and voters who said abortion was most important broke four to one for Democrat John Fetterman. In Michigan, a plurality of 45 percent said abortion was most important. Voters from that plurality backed Democrat Gretchen Wilson 77 to 22 percent.

Young (and therefore more racially diverse) voters backed Democrats. Even a majority of 18–29-year-old men backed Democrats. This included a majority of white 18–29-year-olds; every other generation of whites voted Republican. While married women backed Republicans, unmarried women voted overwhelmingly for Democrats. Deliberately or not, Democrats gain from broken families and measures that weaken families.

Bottom Line:
It was Abortion, plus fruitcake Trump endorsed loons.

Republicans are also stuck with deeply unpopular positions, notably meddling with Social Security and Medicare. Blake Masters floated the idea of privatizing Social Security, which let incumbent Senator Mark Kelly run ads on the issue. The program is unsustainable without an overhaul, but because changing it is political suicide, nothing will happen until it’s too late. Republican Governor Chris Sununu criticized Senators Lindsey Graham and Rick Scott for trying to discuss changes to abortion and Social Security at the national level, and he was strategically right to do so.

That’s just nuts.
The SC struck down Roe v Wade and sent the issue back to the States.

President Trump harping on the 2020 elections didn’t sit well with voters. Almost as many voters said they were turning out to stop Donald Trump as said they were voting to stop Joe Biden. In a break from the last four midterms, independent voters tended to support Democrats rather than the party out of power. Polls indicate that some of those who oppose Joe Biden still voted Democrat, and that President Trump’s negative approval rating hurt his candidates.

Trump proved to be a phony. voters say yes.

This fiction that abolishing abortion rights is popular actually if you just thread the needle like so… is just plain bullshit. No, there are no magic words. Most people hate it, especially women.

The reality is that Dobbs is wildly unpopular in key swing demographics, and some Republican politicians had to pay the penalty for that. Somewhat of the same dynamic happened in the wake of Obamacare passing. Elected Democrats in purple districts who voted for it tended to get turfed out in the next cycle, with some saying it was worth it to get such a major accomplishment passed.

Are there any Republicans out there who would say the same about Dobbs? Maybe not, because they don’t think they can keep it, unlike the ACA which is now a permanent part of the US health system post McCain’s vote.

Re: FTX. There is plenty of blame to go around but I can’t help but be bemused that anybody thought a 28 y/o had sufficient experience to act as CEO of a multi-billion dollar business.

From Wikipedia:

Caroline Ellison graduated from Stanford University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. According to her Twitter and Tumblr feeds, Ellison enjoyed reading Harry Potter books and fan fiction, was polyamorous and regularly used amphetamines.

After graduation, Ellison worked for the quantitative trading firm Jane Street where she met Sam Bankman-Fried. Ellison spent 19 months as a junior trader at Jane Street. She then moved to Alameda Research in March 2018.

Ellison became the sole CEO of Alameda Research in August 2022 after her co-CEO Sam Trabucco stepped down.

So, within six years of graduation, she has gone from a junior trader to CEO of Alameda which had ‘borrowed’ $US10 billion from FTX (client’s money) and was using that money to pay Alameda’s liabilities. There is no doubt that Bankman-Fried and two other FTX executives, Nishad Singh and Gary Wang, were well aware/facilitated this in addition to the former co-CEO Sam Trabucco.

All of those mentioned are in the 28-32 age bracket and all seemed to think other people’s money is a play thing with no accountability. Perhaps they will end up in government roles.

The problem is not the attractiveness of marriage. The problem is fundamental human rights for women. Large numbers of women want to be single and don’t want to be mothers, but want to continue to have sex with contraception. And they vote, even though incels and other toxic dickheads hate them for it.

The true fun, interest and even joy of travel is often in the doing of it, meeting a variety of people and seeing how they behave in different circumstances to their normal, whether it’s chatting on the fly to Texas oilmen, climate cult academics or Amish heading for the beach.

For instance, because we flew to Los Angeles via Atlanta, we were flung for a couple of hours transit into what is called the world’s busiest airport, and an older one at that. It was tremendously crowded, and as I hand my stuff over to Hairy as I head for the Ladies I say don’t expect this to be quick, for the queue was already out of the door. He was bored standing there waiting but inside I was having the time of my life. All sorts of women were joking in the line, a little fat Mexican one crossing her legs in a hop and saying Hola, Hola as one by one we ceded our places to her in a spirit of sisterly goodwill where the dominant shared purpose of all produced a commonality that was co-operative and friendly.

Loads of bonhomie. Men don’t know they are born, was the general appreciation.
And I’ve never seen women in a toilet queue move so fast; all were aware of the flight needs of others caught short by the queue. It was knickers down and up and no faffing about it, done by all.

Large numbers of women want to be single and don’t want to be mothers

There is a difference between ‘are’ and ‘want to be’, M0nty.
Being single most sensibly precludes motherhood as ambitous women through the ages have accepted as a trade-off, although these days many go ahead anyway, finding the desire for a baby conquers everything else (as it tends to do). I doubt if men ever yearn for a baby the way women do. Such yearning can often come surprisingly late, and be exceptionally strong, even amongst women who have strongly felt themselves not to be motherly types. It is hardly surprising. It’s a species thing.

The best outcome is to avoid being single, which can be hard if marriage is downgraded as a lifetime ambition under serial monogamy, if female expectations of suitable partners are mismatched to the available men, and if men are wary of marriage.
A triple whammy.

Doesn’t matter how they vote in most places. The polls, which skew left, predicted a red wave., however the only place that experienced a red wave was Florida. Men won’t want to father children with them as it can be financially crippling.

Who is going to support legislating the prohibition of contraception?

Doesn’t matter how they vote in most places. The polls, which skew left, predicted a red wave., however the only place that experienced a red wave was Florida. Do you think it was a coincidence that Florida also had the strictest voter laws? No bulk mail out ballots and voter ID required. They were also able to finish counting by the end of the day.

China Caused a Baby Bust with Forced Abortions, Now ‘Forced Pregnancy is in the Future of Chinese Women’ (17 Feb)

According to The Wall Street Journal, a recent plan by the government-backed China Family-Planning Association outlined a “campaign of intervention” to reduce unplanned pregnancies and abortions among adolescents and unmarried women. It said the aim was to “improve reproductive health.”

“(The government) will begin to force young women to become pregnant. It will begin to force them to carry their pregnancies to term, force them to bear children,” he said. “And I say that, knowing that the communist party has now closed down 90% of its abortion centers. They’re closing down abortion centers left and right.”

Funny how the Left projects all the time. Whatever they falsely accuse righties of wanting to do they are already doing 10 times more.

Who is going to support legislating the prohibition of contraception?

My cousin with whom we stayed in Louisiana calls himelf a Conservative Democrat. He is also a very committed Roman Catholic, on his Parish Council. I initiated a gentle discussion with him on abortion by asking what he thought of Roe vs Wade repeal by the Supreme Court. He was a little discombobulated, saying he was glad that some States had introduced stricter restrictions, but felt as a Democrat he had to listen also to the views of women who wanted safe abortions. Until birth? I pushed. No, no, no. He wanted an 8 week limit to accommodate those women whose rights he felt he had to respect. He said that the big fear of many Democrats was that some States would now legislate against contraception, to which he would of course object, he said, and that is why so many were upset about the Roe vs Wade repeal. So the contraception issue is being used to demonise the State’s rule movement on abortion and helps to explain some of the fear generated electorally.

This misinformation needs to be called for what it is. Contraception is here to stay.
If handled correctly, as a later trimester issue and shown to be about stopping babies capable of extra-uterline life being murdered, the Dobbs compromise can be electorally useful to the Republicans.

Albanese says Australia is unlikely to support Taiwan’s push to join Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has suggested Australia is very unlikely to support Taiwan’s push to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in a move which is likely to deeply disappoint Taipei.

The regional trade pact takes in 11 countries around the Pacific, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Japan.

China and Taiwan have both been pushing to join the pact, with the Morrison government previously leaving the door open to supporting Taipei’s request.

But speaking at the APEC meeting in Bangkok, Mr Albanese said the agreement was only for “recognised” nation-states, rather than economies.

Dr Herscovitch also said the prime minister’s comment was “poorly timed” as it came “just three days after his meeting with President Xi Jinping.”

“There’s the risk that his comments will look like a concession to the Chinese government. China doesn’t want Taiwan in the CPTPP, and the prime minister’s comments will probably be chalked up as a win in Beijing,” he said.

But there’s nothing to suggest that the prime minister made these comments at President Xi’s behest.”

No its not urine, its rain, explained the expert.

Victorians who vote for these people deserve all they get:

New – partly rate and taxpayer funded – homeless shelter will feature worm farm, organic garden

An “Indigenous privacy garden”, entertaining and sunbaking area will form part of a new Melbourne homeless shelter, with hotel-like facilities.

A new $20m homeless shelter partly funded by ratepayers and taxpayers will include a rooftop space with a communal barbecue area, “sharing circle”, and “Indigenous privacy garden”.

City of Melbourne has released drawings and images of what the former council archives building at 602 Lt Bourke St could look like when finished.

As more donations are pledged for the Make Room project that will have up to 50 studio apartments, it can be revealed that homeless residents will have access to hotel-style facilities.

A rooftop “gathering and entertaining” area will include an outdoor kitchen with barbecue to cater for casual catch ups or bigger social events, says a council document for the project.

A “sharing circle” will comprise “a peaceful outdoor room allowing people to come together to share their story and be heard”.

“Seating to be configured in a circular arrangement and nestled among lush native planting to provide as sense of enclosure and privacy,” the document said.

Also planned is a garden featuring trees and vegetables, with food waste to be processed through compost and a worm farm.

A pergola with a green ceiling of “deciduous climbers” will feature on the rooftop, while reclined seats will be provided for “sun lounging or just relaxing and watching the clouds pass above”.

The council provided the $12m building for the project, while the state government has put in $9m for renovation and wraparound services costs.

Unison Housing will run the operation.

This is strange/disappointing.

I thought they had Buckleys chance of getting a conviction for this old crime, then the suspect pleaded guilty.

Now they have set aside the conviction.
Man jailed for 1988 cliff murder of Scott Johnson has conviction set aside after withdrawn guilty plea
Scott Phillip White long denied murdering the American mathematician and said his pre-trial plea was untrue

A man behind bars for murdering a mathematician found at the bottom of cliffs at Manly in 1988 will likely face trial after a court allowed him to reverse a surprise guilty plea.

Scott Phillip White had long denied murdering Scott Johnson, only to say “guilty, I am guilty” during a pre-trial hearing in Sydney in January.

He later told his lawyers “I didn’t do it but I’m saying I’m doing it … it’s the only way, she’s going to come after me” – referring to his former wife.

White also pointed to stress including seeing the victim’s brother, Steve Johnson, and police in court.
The New South Wales court of criminal appeal on Friday found the supreme court judge had erred for legal reasons in refusing to allow White to withdraw the plea.

The primary judge used a “miscarriage of justice” test when the “interest of justice” test, which is broader, was appropriate, the appeal court ruled.

His conviction and subsequent jail term was set aside.

The matter was remitted to the supreme court arraignment list on 1 December for plea and possible trial directions.

His guilty plea – and whether it was in the interests of justice to permit him to reverse it – was the subject of the two-day hearing in the NSW court of criminal appeal in October.

I think the courts have made the right call, as it stands the accused/turd can claim “I didnt really do it” and paint himself as a victim.
Better to secure a proper conviction, if possible.

Be a bugger if they dont get a conviction though.

Upon opening Louise Perry’s new book, The Case Against the Sexual Revolution: A New Guide to Sex in the 21st Century, I’m moved to tears by the dedication:

“For the women who learned it the hard way”

Unlike many other people who have read and reviewed Perry’s work, reading her book wouldn’t be some academic exercise in contemplating how liberal feminism has let women down. It wouldn’t be evaluating what those poor sluts over there have endured in the wake of the sexual revolution. Reading her book was personal.

Nicely said. It’s the same bullshit propagated around now that pornography is liberating and that prostitution is a valid career choice for women, hence the description now used, “sex worker”, in fact such a description is an insult to both work and sex.

I’ve just finished reading Louise Perry’s “The Case Against the Sexual Revolution: A New Guide to Sex in the 21st Century”. Among many things, Perry says what you’ve said above. Women have been fed a narrative that you can have sex without consequences, that you can go out and pick up men for a casual fuck and it’s all hunky dory….it’s liberating! All of this is a lie, it is utter bullshit. Oh and Louise Perry is no right-wing conservative however she understands how the sexual revolution has fundamentally failed women and she’s adult enough to admit it. And the result is that we now have large numbers of women who are profoundly unhappy and lonely, these women have desired partnership and marriage, they have desired motherhood, they have slept with men thinking that by doing so they’d be entering into a relationship, only to be crushed a few hours or a few days later when the man racks off, never to be seen or heard again. Perry is right when she says that very few women want “casual sex”, for a start it’s demeaning and very few women find casual sex sexually satisfying. What they want is intimacy in a relationship, and then they have meaningful sex.

So, here’s the truth, large numbers of women want relationships, want motherhood*, and they want sex in a meaningful relationship where there respect and commitment.

I know that there are some women who don’t desire motherhood but I have never ever met a woman who’s wanted to be or enjoyed being promiscuous. Never.
