At the heart of the Liberal Party’s defeat in the Victorian election on Saturday is the paradox that in this, the most small “l” liberal state in Australia, the Liberal Party has been taken over by the hard right and is therefore at odds with the electorate whose support it seeks

The meme of the guy squinting and shaking his head isn’t enough.

This is truly delusional in at least four ways.

Trumble has picked out, as fumbling through a thick fog, what is batshit plain obvious to everyone else: Big government naturally tends toward an elite upper class beyond the reach of the lower people and yet is itself able to reach down to the very bottom of their pockets.

Because he laboured so long working this out, and because he is so incredibly vain, he wants to advance the big government cause because fate has, for some perverse reasoning of its own, not granted him the recognition and the reward he is sure is his due.

I do hope the people on Outsiders pick up on his latest damp attempt at gaslighting and put the question someone has asked above: What are the policies that supposedly make the Victorian hard-right? They could invite him to come onto the show and back up his claims. A man with a gigantic rippling brain like him would be able to pin all those Sky nobodies like a beetle to an entomological display.

I know we all understand this, but just for context to any passer by:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_broken_window

The parable of the broken window was introduced by French economist Frédéric Bastiat in his 1850 essay “That Which We See and That Which We Do Not See” (“Ce qu’on voit et ce qu’on ne voit pas”) to illustrate why destruction, and the money spent to recover from destruction, is not actually a net benefit to society.

The parable seeks to show how opportunity costs, as well as the law of unintended consequences, affect economic activity in ways that are unseen or ignored. The belief that destruction is good for the economy is consequently known as the broken window fallacy or glazier’s fallacy.

They are coming for Monty…

The federal MP for Clark has introduced to parliament a bill focused on ‘loot boxes’, a video game feature where players gamble to win virtual assets, often with real money. The bill would regulate game classification, requiring all games that feature ‘loot boxes’ be clearly labelled and carry an R classification – ‘in line with the fact that you must be 18 to legally gamble’, Andrew Wilkie says

..

Given Montyslugs activities over the last week i think we should form a pressure group to have the dangerous gateway activity that is so called fantasy football strictly regulated and only available to consenting adults after they have undertake a 5 day course in the dangers of the activity.

based on the precautionary principle – if it prevents one waif from gambling later on – its worth it.

But is there a danger to school-age students wagering money in their fantasy leagues? Do fantasy sports promote gambling habits that may spell disaster for school-age children if they carry those habits over into adulthood?

I think at a minimum we must shut down the whole thing until a thorough investigation takes place.
We must email Mr Wilkie immediately with our sensible precautions. Only vested interests would dispute the justice of our cause.
Obviously people pushing this perverted product are the moral equivalent of child pornographers and pimps, and their squeals of piggy like outrage must be discounted.

“At the heart of the Liberal Party’s defeat in the Victorian election on Saturday is the paradox that in this, the most small “l” liberal state in Australia, the Liberal Party has been taken over by the hard right and is therefore at odds with the electorate whose support it seeks”

I’m going to counteract Malturd’s malicious claims that the Liberal Party has been taken over by the hard right with evidence, coz I really like evidence…

Evidence 1 – in March 2021, we watched as the West Australian Liberals veered even further to the left than WA Labor under Zac Cockup, the Liberal’s climate emissions targets made Labor’s look reasonable, so what happened? The Liberals lost in a landslide, the Liberal representation in the state parliament has been reduced to two or three seats (perhaps some WA Cat can confirm this).

Evidence 2 – in March 2022, we watched a first-term South Australian Liberal government under Steven Marshmallow, a government that on just about every issue veered further left than SA Labor, from late-term abortion to euthanasia to green left climate targets, lose in a landslide.

Evidence 3 – in November 2022 we witnessed a lame Victorian Liberal Party, under the quisling Matthew Guy, once again lose in a landslide to Labor, because all he and the party did was parrot Labor, tread softly, cower in the corner, smear and isolate core Liberal voters, and traduce men and women like Bernie Finn and Renee Heath.

Evidence 4 – well I’m jumping the gun here but here’s my prediction, in March 2023 the NSW Liberal government will be consigned to the dustbin of history. This state government, the most left-wing Liberal government in the country, will be thrashed.

So much for the Turd’s claim that “the Liberal Party has been taken over by the hard right“. He knows those words aren’t true, what he’s doing is deliberate gaslighting to undermine the party because he wants the party destroyed….and guess what, he’s succeeding.

Just saw sign today in Mudgee that the ANZ branch is permanently closing in April 2023. Already other branches in nearby towns have been closing several days a week and for lunch every day. It is heartbreaking to see the old and infirm, who still attend branches, with despair on their faces. Many have no idea how to do internet banking and others (like us!) are quite terrified of it after recent attacks by hackers.

How are the few cheques in circulation to be cashed? And there are countless other situations that require banking facilities – as we recently discovered when a purchaser of our tractor paid with a bank cheque.

PoliticsNow: National Party to oppose a voice to parliament in a referendum

The Nationals will oppose a voice to parliament.

After a partyroom meeting in Canberra on Monday morning, the junior Coalition party has decided to oppose the proposal in a referendum.

The issue is expected to be discussed in the joint Coalition partyroom on Tuesday.

Nationals Leader David Littleproud said the party had consulted with architects of the Ulu?u Statement from the Heart Pat Anderson and Professor Megan Davis.

CLP Senator for the NT Jacinta Price said the Party would not support a “failed model”.

She slammed Minister for Indigenous Australians for going to Indigenous communities “dripping in Gucci” and telling First Nations’ people “what they need”.

“We have to stop dividing this nation on the lines of race,” she said. “We will not be supporting a failed model.”

“It’s not racist to disagree with a proposal … that lacks detail and divides us on the lines of race,” Senator Price said.

“I hope the Voice is not successful.”

Mr Littleproud said the Liberal Party’s position was a “matter for the Liberal Party”.

“We are two separate parties. We have different values, different principles, different constituencies,” he said.

Defence Minister Richard Marles has given the clearest indication yet that Labor will build nuclear submarines onshore in Australia.

Speaking to the House of Representatives, Mr Marles said the government was on track to make an announcement in the first part of next year, and argued it would be one of Australia’s “great national endeavours”.
“The Albanese government thinks very differently,” Mr Marles said. “We are not concerned about politics, we are only interested and focus on the national interest.

“Working with our partners in the United Kingdom and the United States about what will be the optimal pathway for Australia’s future, nuclear powered submarines and we are on track to be able to make that announcement in the first part of next year and build nuclear submarines in this country will be one of Australia’s great national endeavours.

Philosophy behind bars

Duration: 30 minutes 30m

HMP Pentonville, London, where Andy West is philosopher in residence

What does it mean to study and teach philosophy in prison? Andy West has been teaching philosophy in prisons since 2015, and his memoir The Life Inside is a fascinating account of this experience – as well as a reflection on inherited trauma and the fact that his father, uncle and brother all spent time behind bars.

Little room for airy abstractions in this classroom. One student, obviously moved by a discussion of a Sam Harris point stood up and announced ‘I’m going to take a shit.’ West’s comment: ‘It was like something out of Diogenes, performative vse argument.’

Queensland Senator Demands National Security Alert over WEF Global Domination

From Armstrong Economics –

“Klaus Schwab has publicly boasted about infiltrating government cabinets around the world. His plans for the Great Reset are public information that anyone can access. The World Economic Forum (WEF) molds its Young Leaders as they see fit and strategically places them in positions of power throughout every global agency and government. The agenda has never been a mystery, as Schwab states his intentions on his website, in books, and in every interview. His ideas seem so outlandish to the average person that they have been dismissed as merely a conspiracy, with Schwab being seen as an eccentric billionaire who wants to better the world.

Senator Malcolm Roberts from Queensland is now demanding answers. Schwab’s growing infiltration of government should have triggered a National Security Alert, Roberts said. No one voted for Schwab or the WEF to lead them. “Parliament belongs to no one but the Australian people,” Roberts firmly stated.

Roberts has been speaking out against the WEF for some time. If the Great Reset is a conspiracy theory, why are governments following the WEF’s policies? “The Global Identity Project is designed to shift the global economy away from private ownership and into what the WEF calls an “access model” where you own nothing but rent goods and services from the world’s billionaires and billionaire corporations,” Roberts explained earlier in the year. He warned that they are using “sustainability” as a lie to turn the public into slaves who have no power over their government and will create a closed-loop economy.

Schwab and his WEF are indeed a threat to national security across the globe. Who are they paying, and how has he successfully infiltrated governments across the world? Leaders like Trudeau, who blatantly follow Schwab’s advice, are not fit to lead and should be investigated for their part in destroying the world economy to Build [it] Back Better.”

In 1992, Victorian Labor was crushed by a Jeff Kennett Coalition. Labor at that election secured 38.41% primary vote.
In 2022, Labor is heading for a 35 to 36% primary vote
64% did not vote for Victorian Labor. Close to 3 million voters.

So Kennett had a landslide when Labor got 38% first preferences, that means that the utterly useless Libs didn’t get the votes, people voted for other parties. Plus the way many seats are composed it does tilt ( a little) towards Labor. Oh well 4 more years of wasting billions of $ and more corruption and brutality. Nationals’ opposition to Voice unanimous: Price
Georgia Clelland
GEORGIA CLELLAND

Country Liberal Party Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, a driving force behind guiding the Nationals towards their position against the Voice to Parliament, said the decision was unanimous.

“It was a whole party process that we decided to do as a party to understand both sides of the argument. We believe in being well-informed before making a decision and coming to a position” Senator Price told the ABC’s Afternoon Briefing.

“It was something that we all did together as a party.”

Senator Price said she would spearhead the party’s no campaign, following conversations with First Nations people across the country.

“I’ve been in conversations with indigenous Australians across the country about this and with people who are feeling like they are not being heard throughout the debate so far,” Senator Price said.

“It will be about amplifying their voices.”

Senator Price called for the federal government to equally fund a yes and no campaign.

“I think it is clear that the government are already funding the yes campaign through their budget in other ways” she said.

“To say that they are going to come out and not have any funding for a yes and no campaign is a little bit deceitful.

“They have put millions of dollars toward this referendum without the budget through organisations like an IAAF. They should be funding a yes and no campaign.”

Ms Price said she had spoken to many “everyday Aussies” who were prepared to support the no campaign with their own money.

“There are Australians out there who are prepared to support a no campaign and there are plenty going to bankroll a yes campaign” she said.

“I have everyday Australians who say they are prepared to reach into their pockets for this. There are certainly many individuals who say that they are prepared to put some funding behind a no campaign.”

Australia is fucked:

In a historic ruling today, a Queensland court has said the massive Clive Palmer-owned Galilee Basin coal project should not go ahead because of its contribution to climate change, its environmental impacts, and because it would erode human rights.

The case was mounted in 2020 by a First Nations-led group of young people aged 13 to 30 called Youth Verdict. It was the first time human rights arguments were used in a climate change case in Australia.

The link between human rights and climate change is being increasingly recognised overseas. In September this year, for example, a United Nations committee decided that by failing to adequately address the climate crisis, Australia’s Coalition government violated the human rights of Torres Strait Islanders.

Youth Verdict’s success today builds on this momentum. It heralds a new era for climate change cases in Australia by youth activists, who have been frustrated with the absence of meaningful federal government policy.

Fiasco? I’m not so sure ZK2A. ‘Most passionate kiss I’ve ever had’: Duke of Sussex’s ex-lover opens up about her fling with Prince Harry before he met Meghan (Sky, 28 Nov)

“Real Housewives of D.C. star Catherine Ommanney has opened up about her “passionate” fling with Prince Harry before he met his wife Meghan Markle, revealing their first kiss left her “speechless”.”

Meghan said to be miffed about access to royal jewels (27 Nov)

“Meghan Markle is said to be fuming that she has no access to the royal jewels. At King Charles III’s first state dinner for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Queen Consort Camilla wore a diamond and sapphire tiara that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II, while the Princess of Wales, Kate, wore the pearl and diamond tiara that was the favorite crown of the late Princess Diana. I called C.L.’s attention to this on newcatallaxy and he replied that because not many people use Edge that he would not bother to inform Microsoft of the safety of his blog which had been reported.

I admire C.L. and his comments but I lost a computer of 14months due to a virus attack a few years ago and I now take no chances.

Young Crypto Founder Shocks Industry With Sudden Death at 30 in His Sleep

Miami nightclubs will be in mourning.

Miami nightclub owners are struggling with slumping sales after losing top-spending crypto clientele in wake of FTX implosion and crypto downfall, report says (28 Nov)

“Crypto leaders aren’t the only ones feeling the blow of the cratering market and the downfall of FTX — so too are the Miami club owners who profited from regularly hosting some of the industry’s top spenders. Requests for $50,000 tables and bottle service for top-shelf liquor at the city’s hottest venues are drying up, according to a new report from the Financial Times.”

The stuff coming out about the crypto rubbish is excellent fun, especially the long list of luminaries taken in by it.

What in the Actual F— Is Wrong With These People? (26 Nov)

“You can’t make this up. Earlier this month, some dough-faced dork named Sam Bankman-Fried—an MIT grad and son of Stanford law professors—vaporized the GDP of a small country after successfully conning the entire world of so-called educated elites.

All of them. The freaks in Silicon Valley, the freaks on Wall Street, the freaks in Hollywood, and the freaks in Washington. Even (or especially) the journalists who are supposed to be holding everyone accountable. The smartest, most enlightened professional experts and self-appointed moral referees.

Bill Clinton. Tony Blair. The Democratic Party. Larry David. Tom Brady. Fortune magazine. Andrew Ross Sorkin. CNBC. The bald guy from Shark Tank. BlackRock, the $10 trillion investment firm where former Obama aides go to get rich and serve as “Global Head of Sustainable Investing.”

They all vouched for Bankrupt-Fraud and his blockchain stonk machine. Like they vouched for Elizabeth Holmes and her magic blood box. Like they vouched for Michael Avenatti and his bullshit litigation racket. The Lincoln Project. OZY Media. Stacey Abrams.”

Sort of like the climate scam, really. Anyone want to buy a tulip?

That lady judges husband is a real corker.

Not corrupt but…. did illegal things.

WTF, how do you put those 2 together?
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-23/david-barbagallo-premier-chief-of-staff-cleared-of-corruption/12694032

The former Chief of Staff of Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has been cleared of a corruption investigation alleging that he used his position to get hundreds of thousands of dollars in government funding for a private company he part-owned.

But the Crime and Corruption Commission probe into David Barbagallo found the former top ministerial staffer had failed to properly declare his business interests and had breached several laws

Good lord, what a fucktard.

The top ministerial staffer claimed the omissions in his Declaration of Interests were an oversight.

“I worked for Goss, we brought in the CCC stuff you know, we’re from the good guys,” Mr Barbagallo told the CCC.

You know that other mob are the ones that are corrupt and f****d over this state, so you know I have an intellectual, philosophical and personal commitment.”

..

And why did he get away with it?

“The CCC considers Mr Barbagallo’s failure to declare his interests to the Premier breached certain legislative and policy requirements of his former position, which would have provided grounds for consideration of disciplinary action if he had not resigned from his position,” Mr MacSporran said.

“The employment contract has ended and there is no provision in the contract, or under the Ministerial Act, that is available to the Director-General to consider postseparation disciplinary action against Barbagallo for his failure to declare his interests as required.

Zatara

Re Sandakan, I have checked the location.

Assuming that Sandakan airport has a two mile long (10,500 feet) runway, which might be generous, the camp is about three and a half miles from the nearest point on the coast, and under ten miles from the current port.

A combined parachute drop and diversion of the Tarakan landing force there should have had a good chance of freeing the prisoners. Some might have died in the operation, but surely not as many as died on the Death March. There were only six survivors of some 2400 prisoners there.

The POS who handed down the Clive Palmer Judgment said this:

“With declining demand for thermal coal, there is a real prospect the mine will not be viable throughout its projected life and not all the economic benefits will be realised,” Ms Kingham said.

That is simply wrong; demand for all types of coal is increasing world wide and Australia’s coal exports are going through the roof

Queensland Land Court rules against Clive Palmer’s Waratah Coal mine in landmark ruling

The Queensland Land Court has ruled human rights would be unjustifiably limited by a proposal to dig the state’s largest coal mine in the Galilee Basin in Central Queensland.

First Nations-led activist group Youth Verdict challenged an application by mining company Waratah Coal, owned by billionaire Clive Palmer.

The group of young Queensland activists challenged the mine on the basis it would impact the human rights of First Nations peoples by contributing to climate change.

The coal mine would remove about 40 million tonnes of coal a year for export to South-East Asia, with a forecast life span of 30 years.

It is the first time a group has successfully argued coal from a mine would impact human rights by contributing to climate change.

Queensland Land Court president Fleur Kingham said she would not be recommending Waratah Coal’s application for a mining lease and environmental approval to be granted.

She told the court the mine unjustifiably limited the right to life, cultural rights of First Nations peoples, the rights of children, the rights to property, privacy and home and the right to enjoy human rights equally.

“The importance of preserving the rights weighs more heavily in the balance of the economic benefits of the mine and the benefits of contributing energy security for South-East Asia,” she said.

Waratah had argued the Galilee Coal Project would contribute $2.5 billion in economic benefits over its 30-year life span.

If Australia had a State or Federal Government with Balls, they would immediately deduct $2.5 Billion from Aboriginal Budget Allocations

I wouldn’t get too bent round the axels as one of C.L. commenters stated the HC has a couple of justices that have a dim view of Dennis Denuto rulings like this and we know how litigious Clive is. If the resource is worth his while (and I suggest it will be with a rail line to the Adani mine) he will appeal it.

Yet the law was fine with imprisoning innocent people and forcing shit into their arms.

Forgive me for now laughing at any reference to human rights in Australian courts.

One of my offspring returned home from a fortnight driving north to Queensland.
She was done by a mobile phone camera on her phone at traffic lights in Brisvegas.

Dumb and potentially dangerous thing to do. But 1076 bucks and 4 demerits? Wam, bam, thank you, Ma’am. I would’ve thought 350 dollars and a couple of demerits would be sufficient. I guess my Christmas present won’t be as generous this year.

Most Australian drivers couldn’t drive out of sight on a dark night. Bloody hopeless.

And it has gotten worse since we have embraced more people from the subcontinent. Once I thought I could anticipate or at least understand many of the possible permutations of another driver’s moves. Now, I’m just waiting for the day that a car drops out of the sky onto mine.

City driving used to be a doddle in Brisvegas but it drives me crazy now. Our driving instructors and assessors have a lot to answer for. Assessors used to be bastards and proud of it but they seem to be letting some shockers through now.

Don’t get me started on other stupid behaviours people display around cars.
