John Fogerty reunited with his songs at long last

At a time when many of the greatest surviving American singer-songwriters are cashing out their hard-earned chips, John Fogerty has made the bold and idiosyncratic decision to buy back in.

On Friday, the frontman and co-founder of California-born rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival announced that he had acquired a majority interest in the worldwide publishing rights to his much-loved song catalogue.

It took a lot of patience, and a whole lotta love, with his wife and manager leading the charge to fulfil a decades-long dream and a personal mission.

“As of this January, I own my own songs again,” Fogerty, 77, wrote on social media. “This is something I thought would never be a possibility.”

In recent years, fellow generation-defining American voices such as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen have bowed to the lure of trading their catalogues for huge sums reportedly in the vicinity of US$300m and US$500m, in sales to Universal Music Publishing Group and Sony Music, respectively.

Fogerty’s situation was markedly different than Bob and The Boss, though, as the artist had not been the owner of CCR songs he wrote – including iconic compositions such as Proud Mary, Fortunate Son, Down on the Corner and Bad Moon Rising – since 1974.

Lie #2: the added potential for lawsuits is not intended solely to put abortion providers out of business.

LOL, Brookings! Clearly a leftard.

The Inflation Reduction Act says that the new investment in the IRS is not “intended to increase taxes on any taxpayer or small business with a taxable income below $400,000.”

Are there penalties for any member of IRS staff who breaches this intention?

There are many fronts for extremist religious groups in America who would love to take up such a case, as part of their ongoing campaign to put abortion providers out of business.

How does “put abortion providers out of business” comapre to:

What you want is to criminalise offering medical assistance to pregnant mothers, to scare providers out of the profession.

When your wife was pregnant, did you look to an abortion provider to provide “medical support”? Most people would look to a gynecologist.

Incoming Queenslanders! Hun:

Get set for a whole lot of wet if you’re in Queensland this weekend.

Forecasters have said the Queensland coast could the “heaviest rain in years”.

“It’s going to be a very intense weekend of rain,” Sky News Weather meteorologist Alison Osborne said.

“January 2023 could shape up to be the wettest single month for pockets of the Queensland coast since February 2021.”

Some of that rain will make its way further south with Sydney, southern NSW and Victoria likely to see showers on Sunday.

But in the southern states, humid tropical warmth is on the cards with Saturday set to see “very extreme heat”.

Temperatures could be up to 15 degrees or more above average.

The moisture mayhem is set to be the most intense in a line from north of Cairns to south of Mackay. Although much of Queensland could be soggy to a lesser degree.

“This is due to a building rain and storm event which will focus over coastal and inland areas north of about Rockhampton right the way through and into next week,” Ms Osborne said.

An intensifying monsoon trough is likely to deliver a steady supply of moisture with persistent rain and, at points, intense downpours.

Over the next week, this coastal zone could see around 400mm of rain.

“In many areas, this will constitute a month’s worth of rain falling in just a week,” she said.

On Saturday, Townsville could register 100mm of rain – and not far off that on Sunday. And then there will be lesser – but still heavy rain – into the middle of next week. It will be sticky too, with the mercury reaching 28C most days.

Yet Brisbane will be spared the washout with barely any drops of rain at all over the weekend. Expect highs of 29C in the city and lows of 20C.

Meanwhile in the north, Darwin will remain mostly clear with highs of 33C and lows of 25C on Friday. A shower is possible on Saturday and then up to 20mm and a storm on Sunday.

So the rain will cause the wettest month in years apparently. Well at least they used plural form, since it will be since 2021.

Got a big surprise when I saw Annaleise Nielsen on Sky last night. She seems to be a bit left of centre an struggles to hide her TDS but she’s also a very pretty young thing. Last night however she appeared with most of her hair gone; what I’d call a buzz-cut, and is looking very severe. I thought she might be making a bit of a statement.

While it will be warm in Sydney, the city seems unable to push over the 30C barrier. The NSW capital is set for a sunny weekend with highs of 28-29C and overnight lows of around 20C.

But storm clouds are brewing as you head west and south.

Canberra may see a storm come through on Friday, although the rain totals won’t be high. It will be dry for Saturday in the capital and then up to 8mm of rain expected on Sunday, mostly associated with another possible storm.

It will break 30C in Canberra, with maximums of 32C across the weekend.

Sky News Weather has forecast that later on Sunday, storms and rain could pass over parts of NSW including the Blue Mountains and the Ranges.

But it’s all about the heat for Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania with warm air from the Pilbara region of Western Australia, the country’s “heat engine,” funnelling that desert-scorched air to the southeast.

Just killed first snake of the season. A small red bellied black that was making its way towards the back porch. A no-no. In the paddocks – fine – but not in the house grounds.

Haven’t seen even one snake on the property in 12 months – testimony, I guess, to the cool seasons. This is the reason we have not renewed the snake netting in the house fencing. May have to reconsider.

“As that heat pulls over South Australia and into Victoria, it will be joined by very humid air off the northeast. This means it is going to feel rather tropical,” Ms Osborne said.

“Saturday is going to be the day of very extreme heat and elevated fire dangers particularly in South Australia.”

That extreme heat will be felt on Friday in Adelaide with a high of 37C and then it goes one better on Saturday at 38C. Thankfully a cool change should the come through with a 29C maximum on Sunday.

Minimums will be 23C on Saturday Sunday in Adelaide.

It all cranks up again from the start of next week, however, with a 39C high on Tuesday.

Over the coming days Melbourne will see heat too – but it won’t be as sustained.

A high of 26C on Friday rises to 35C on Saturday and then down to 22C on Sunday. Although looking further out, it could peak at 37C on a baking Tuesday.

Lows over the weekend will be in the high teens.

Weather
Head northeast and Sunday could see some rain in places like Wangaratta.

Hobart should reach 30C on Saturday as the same system from the mainland envelops much of the island. Friday will be 25C and cloudy and on Sunday it will cool down to 19C.

The seesawing of the mercury will be felt here too with a hot Tuesday peaking at 31C in the city.

Warm and sunny in Perth for the next few days. Temperatures will fall short of 30C on Friday, just by a smidgen, and then it’s 30-33C and mid-teen lows consistently each day for the next week with mostly clear blue skies.

So sounds just like a summer season then. FMD

BTW, that you have to hide your argument behind a purportedly sick child in the late second or third trimester shows how little confidence you have in your argument.

There are well over 30,000 births in Western Australia every year. According to the aforementioned link, on average there is one (1) live birth from a failed abortion per year in the state. We are talking about extreme edge cases here, so the scenario of a terminally ill newborn is very much relevant. You are trying to pretend there is a large spate of such cases, but there really aren’t.

The intention of the bill/ law is to two-fold. It’s to oblige medical practitioners to still provide medical care to the few though still significant number of children that survive an abortion in the hope that some of them may live as well as provide comfort to those in their last moments.

The 2002 law already does that. You may not like how it doesn’t include an oppressive legal regime of penalties and threats, but you are an extremist who does not hold power and in an enlightened society your views would not be coddled.

And, secondly, to establish a premise re the child as a locus for the protection of the law that might seep backward and include the child in utero, when it dawns on those that think on the matter, that the location of the child makes no difference in respect of what is due to the child as a human being.

This is utter claptrap. You are trying to make the vagina a slippery slope, which is laughably ridiculous given how much women hate your views. This is how you think you are going to change hearts and minds post-Dobbs? No wonder your side lost so badly in the mid-terms. What a terrible political sense you have.

Necessity Bruce.

Work outside and had enough with dodgy BOM forecasts. So I started educating myself. Plenty of storm chaser websites out there and weather websites that you can freely access all the major models, GFS, EC, HWRF and even the BOM’s ACESS which actually isn’t too bad with CS Cyclones.

I still can’t get rid of a gut feeling the 400mm they are predicting will be an overstatement, the satellite chart the monsoon doesn’t look strong. I remember when it used to be a wall of cloud over the top end of the country sweeping south till a cyclone or 2 spins up and sucks all the convection away.

Flying into the north is awesome in one of these events, I remember a few flights cruising at 38,000ft and it was almost as if you could touch the tops of the clouds just below the aircraft. Then when we nosed over into decent between Bowen & Ayr a decent through an almost constant wall of cloud & turbulence till popping out the bottom in final approach to Garbutt. Been on a couple of Melbourne Cairns flights with similar experiences as well.

Maybe you should have kept him.
As much as I dislike snakes, red-bellied blacks have relatively impotent venom (compared with tigers and browns), are very timid of humans and, most importantly, are highly territorial when it comes to other snake species.
If you have a red-bellied black in the yard you a less likely to tread on one of the others.

A little old lady went to the grocery store to buy cat food.

She picked up four cans and took them to the checkout counter. The girl at the cash register said “I’m sorry, but we cannot sell you cat food without proof that you have a cat. A lot of old people buy cat food to eat, and the management wants proof that you are buying the cat food for your cat”.

The little old lady went home, picked up her cat and brought it back to the store. They sold her the cat food.

The next day, she tried to buy two cans of dog food. Again, the cashier said “I’m sorry, but we cannot sell you dog food without proof that you have a dog. A lot of old people buy dog food to eat, but the management wants proof that you are buying the dog food for your dog”.

So she went home and brought in her dog. She then was able to buy the dog food.

The next day she brought in a box with a hole in the lid. The little old lady asked the cashier to stick her finger in the hole. The cashier said “No, you might have a snake in there”.

The little old lady assured her that there was nothing in the box that would harm her. So the cashier put her finger into the box and pulled it out. She said to the little old lady “That smells like shite!”

The little old lady said “It is. I want to buy three rolls of toilet paper”.

Shakespeare’s King Lear About the ‘Destructive Potential’ of ‘Whiteness’: Globe Theatre Panel (10 Jan)

King Lear, a five-part tragedy penned by William Shakespeare with the eponymous mythological British king as its protagonist, really revolves around the idea of the “destructive potential” of “whiteness”, an academic has claimed, despite the play seemingly having little to do with race.

The statement was made at just one of a series of “Anti-Racist Shakespeare” seminars hosted by the Globe Theatre in London, which as a reconstruction of Shakespeare’s original playhouse specialises in hosting plays penned by the Bard.

The woke haven’t seemed to’ve comprehended yet that all his female characters were played by men.

I know our perception of things in our past can change over time, but as a born and bred Adelaidian, my recollection is that a temp of 37c is a doddle. Warm but hardly ‘extreme heat’. As a lad I recall temps of 38-40C being very common in the Adelaide summer. We only thought it was ‘getting hot’ from about 40C (104F)+. I’m sure I remember the occasional days of 41-42C (106-108F) when the north wind blew in. When that happened, everybody expected a fire in the hills.

He went to jam his fingers in and was lucky I didnt bite them off, I was already crowning, and probably had been for an hour or more
Quick rush into the delivery room, one push & about 2L of blood later and the doc had a non-breathing purple bub.
Youve seen “the meaning of life” where they do the miracle of birth, the delivery is done and everyone runs out of the room with the baby leaving the mum alone.
Welcome to my mums world. She was left bleeding in the stirrups in an empty room for about 20 minutes, and didnt know if I was alive or dead for 1/2 an hour.

Mum was anemic and weak for days and Sister Babyslayer took over my care and wouldnt let mum have more than 5 minutes at a time with me.

How im not an only child i can only put down to dad really, really wanting more.

I just looked it up. It wasn’t Leo McKern at all, but Timothy West as Lear.

Dalton took his shirt off and was just wearing a loin cloth as “Tom”. No wonder I forgot. 😀

There’s nothing like seeing Shakespeare performed right in front of you. It’s mesmerising.

The year before my King Lear/scrumptious swoony Dalton experience, I went to the Sydney Theatre Company production of Macbeth, with John Bell as lead and Anna Volska as his missus with the Foul Spot. Marvellous stuff. It was “theatre in the round” and the newly built theatre still smelled of sawdust.

Most memorable experience post production…I trod in dog poo on the way back to the car. Horror! 😀

I worked at the Superpit and at Prominent Hill and in both locations, after a few days of 45C+, 40C felt like a ‘cool change’.

For sure. In the Pilbara some of the i/o pits regularly reach high 40’s and low 50’s. Stifling. Hydration is imperative but on those days I’m more concerned with heatstroke. Which can happen real quick. And that’s ambient. Working on a hot machine takes local temps higher.

Untrue.

Perhaps it’s a Queensland thing – and I’m being serious here -but the most disgusting perverts I, or my family, have encountered lived in rural Qld. These people pushed themselves as ‘solid citizens’ – one was a regular church goer- but away from the public eye they were evil predators*.

Crossie:

The other thing is the economic aspect. If renewable are free or even cheap why do they still need taxpayer subsidies, or any subsidies, to make them applicable. What’s more, renewables are now more expensive than ever, even with subsidies.

And yet, my nephew in the sparkie business is convinced the price of renewables will fall when the last coal power station ceases production because “Renewables will not have to subsidise Coal.”
Against such stupidity, the Gods fight in vain.

Just wait until all those windmills start hitting maintenance and refurbishment intervals , mandated by the regulators and manufacturers. Then you’ll see what the real costs are. I know many crane operators are tooling up for the bonanza, only one element of the gazzilion $ in costs that will be sheeted home to punters.

This never happens anywhere else. Just rural Qld.
Gotta question the methodology there.

Multiple kidnappings of backpackers in the Coorong region would support a case for that area harbouring some properfella creeps.

Fact is it can & does happen anywhere. The larger the pool of humans, the more chance there’s depraved types.
Monty’s line that living “the sticks” = greater chance of incest/underage (or whatever he was banging on about) was plain stupid, bigoted, & brain dead.
He should have known better. Clearly he doesn’t.
He apparently lives in Melbourne, a city that may be completely free of depravity & perversion.

Got a large glass and a sheet of paper. Put the glass over the huntsman then slid the paper under the glass. Out to the front door to evict the spider into the wide world.

Ah, yes. This was SOP when the grandies would find a monster huntsman and shriek for Dad or Papa to dispatch it.

“But don’t kill it!” they wailed.

So best man caught the monster using the Bruce Technique, then, with the girls dogging his footsteps, he carefully carried the glass outside to the garden and flicked that lucky huntsman onto the lawn… where a roving chicken spied him and pounced, gobbling him up in an instant.

Much unhappiness all round.

Depraved types go where there’s opportunity. It might be in suburbia, it might be in a remote place, far from help.

In the end, it depends on the depravity and choice of prey.

  1. It’s almost hilarious that Sir Robert Menzies’s Liberal Party (what was he thinking when he came up with that?) is…

  2. Steve…. I’m sure that Cash dawg is lovely… but all he does is stand around, panting. Let me know if…

  3. At 12, Jaiswal moved from rural Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai for cricket. He slept in tents and sold pani puri to earn…

  4. It’s not commonly known, but Teslas use Righteous Electrickery (RE), so all is balanced with Gaia. Namaste.
