I stopped subscribing, mostly to save money. But the rejection of many of my comments was frustrating, and usually attributable to unseemly intensifier words.

That’s it…I’m off to make a roast chicken sandwich on white bread

Ensure the chook bits are covered with salt. And I mean covered.

I vividly remember eating roast chook (with lots of salt) on white bread sandwiches on an early morning long distance bus.

“..it always amazes me how the various “victim” groups are unable to grasp that it’s the very people they keep demonising who empowered them when they didn’t have to.”

Yeah, this whole “you don’t know what it’s like being xxx” drives me crazy – self evidently I do not, since I am not xxx. And you do not know what it is like to be yyy – because you are not. What is your point? That you didn’t get a choice? Neither did I!

The law and other rules that we currently have are sufficient to allow anyone, regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, sex or sexuality to be successful – if they have the talent, skills, attitude and fortitude to do so. If you have none of these, then you can work hard to obtain them or overcome their lack, at which point you will succeed. Stop using your race/colour/creed/sex/sexuality/whatever as an excuse to be lazy – if your life is bad, get off your backside and do something about it! You are no more entitled to the fruits of the sweat of my brow than I am of yours. Turn your disadvantage into an advantage – if life hands you lemons, make lemonade and stop complaining that you think life handed me strawberries! I assure you life has handed me more than a few lemons, the same as most of the rest of the world and I did as most everyone has to – I got up, dusted myself off, said “Bugger! Didn’t see that one coming” and tried again. And again. And again. I try to learn from each mistake I make – and I have made and will continue to make plenty of them – to get something positive from it. So I ask no more of you than I require from myself.

Life is what you make it – if you make it nothing, it will be nothing, and there is no-one to blame but you.

In Hopefully the ABC Stenographer Became Confused and It’s Not Really Happening Like This news:

$100m spent on underground mapping before tunnelling woes, Snowy Hydro boss admits

Mr Barnes has now acknowledged that a huge boring machine known as Florence, which became trapped underground in December, may be stuck for “weeks or months” longer.

He said significant efforts were being made to extricate the 2,000-tonne machine, which triggered a sinkhole when it struck trouble 70 metres into a 17-kilometre journey.

Part of these efforts would include constructing a slurry machine that can “liquefy” the soil in front of the borer, making its passage forwards easier.

Technical Note 1: In fact this “slurry machine” will be providing pressurised slurry to hold up the unconsolidated ground ahead of the TBM, and prevent water and loose material from falling into the excavation and extending the sinkhole that has the TBM trapped. In this situation, ‘liquefying the soil’ is not your friend.

Under questioning from Nationals senator Perin Davey, Mr Barnes revealed the latest troubles arose despite Snowy Hydro spending tens of millions of dollars on geotechnical work.

“Prior to the financial investment decision there was in the order of $100m spent on geotechnical surveys,” Mr Barnes said.

“So we feel we have good coverage of the site.

“We are obviously looking at all sorts of ways to mitigate the schedule delay.

“But once you get the tunnel boring machine going you can … do imaging in front of the tunnel boring machine and go around any significant issues.”

Technical Note 2: Geomechanics 101 tells us that the high risk area in any underground excavation is where you have shallow cover, which may be unconsolidated and prone to collapse. In this case, exactly where Florence is presently stuck. So, perhaps a bit ambitious to claim “good coverage of the site”.

Technical Note 3: ‘Imaging’ the ground ahead and slaloming around any geological obstacles sounds pretty hi-tech and will no doubt thrill the Hon Senators. In reality, Florence is a big, complicated, 2,000 tonne behemoth capable (with extensive forward planning) of only very gentle steering (say 10mm in every 1000mm advance).

Not sure what ‘imaging’ Mr Barnes is imagining, but zigzagging around, reacting to difficult ground conditions on the fly, is not in the TBM Operating Manual. The cost and delay issues in this throwaway line are not insignificant.

Historical Note: Snowy 2.0 was gifted to Australia by Miserable Ghost, as a $2 bn ‘up and running by 2021’ windfall. Currently up and running towards $10 bn by 2029 – a few years after Eraring shuts down.

Luckily:

Unlike other forms of storage such as batteries, which typically can only discharge for a matter of hours, Snowy 2.0 would be able to provide power continuously for up to seven days.

It was this capability, Mr Barnes said, that made pumped hydro so critical to backing up intermittent wind and solar generation.

“I think it’s an incredibly important asset to the energy transition and I fully expect it to be very commercial,” Mr Barnes said.

But, not Too Cheap to Meter?

Brittany Higgins’ ‘drive to be in media’ made work difficult: top cop

By Kristin Shorten

2:31PM May 24, 2023

The senior police officer who oversaw the investigation into Brittany Higgins’ rape allegation says the complainant’s “drive to be in the media” made their work “difficult”, and that it impacted their relationship with the Victims of Crime Commissioner.

Detective Superintendent Scott Moller is giving his third day of evidence at the Board of Inquiry into the ACT’s criminal justice system, chaired by Walter Sofronoff KC.

During cross examination of Supt Moller, Heidi Yates’s lawyer asserted that the Victims of Crime Commissioner was “well within her rights” to become Ms Higgins’ support person and act as a conduit between the complainant and police who were investigating her rape claim against Bruce Lehrmann.

Peggy Dwyer said that under the Victims of Crime Commission Act the Ms Yates “is entitled to be present at the hearing of a proceeding” and act as a complainant’s support person if she chooses or is asked to do so.

Supt Moller admitted that the relationship between police and Ms Higgins, before Ms Yates was involved, was already “difficult”.

“You’ve pointed out it was frustrating for police, wasn’t it, trying to work with Ms Higgins to help develop the case?” she asked.

Supt Moller confirmed that Ms Higgins’ strategy in prioritising media engagement over the police investigation “made it difficult for investigators”.

“It was difficult because of the perceived interest that Ms Higgins had in the media, the drive that Ms Higgins showed to be in the media,” he said.

The inquiry heard that on April 8, 2021 Supt Moller received a briefing document from Detective Inspector Marcus Boorman, authored by Detective Sergeant Garreth Saunders, saying that Ms Higgins had asked for the investigation into her rape allegation to be re-opened but that she had refused to provide a police statement at that time.

“Yes, she had had an engagement with the media at that time,” Supt Moller said.

“The significance for me at that time was that Ms Higgins had already done media interviews and it appeared to me, from what I was told, that Ms Higgins wanted the matter reported and wanted it to be a ‘live’ investigation, is the word she used.

“And my opinion was that she wanted it ‘live’ to give credibility to the story that was being aired between February and May.”

Supt Moller said investigators’ frustrations deepened when Ms Higgins would not produce her mobile phone for examination.

Supt Moller, who has been an investigator since 1994, said he had enjoyed a “productive and respectful” working relationship with Ms Yates prior to investigating the rape allegation against Mr Lehrmann.

He’s an authoritarian autocrat in bed with the Chinese Communist Party, who the little people in his own parliamentary party are scared of, but he’s figured out how to control democratic retail politics —
You need a topline political opposition to take him on. Instead, we have the Stupid Frigging Liberals,

Andrews hasn’t figured out anything, he is just very lucky with his opposition as has already been pointed out. As far as I am concerned the opposition is as guilty for the situation in Victoria since they refuse to provide an acceptable alternative. Losing one election while they are learning is one thing but losing a series of elections means enemy action and they should be completely scrapped.

The Daily Mail link above is prefaced by a story about Mafia intimidation and someone complying to corruption even though he knew it was wrong. Compliance comes readily with a gun to your head.

It then continues on ..

This may sound like the opening scene to a Martin Scorsese film, but trust me, it’s a true story. Not just of corruption, but also of fear — and how fear can very quickly throw our moral compass off balance. People will do or say anything when there’s a gun to their head.

We like to kid ourselves we live in more civilised times, but the truth is these days we all have that metaphorical gun to our heads. There is a new kind of cultural mafia in town, one that styles itself as kind and caring and compassionate and socially sophisticated — but which is, in fact, just as ruthless, just as determined, to bend us to its will.

Every day, in all sorts of ways, they make us offers we can’t refuse, and we find ourselves being asked to say and think things that are manifestly not true.

And so we agree that women can have penises (Lib Dem leader Ed Davey maintained in a radio interview on LBC today that this was ‘quite clear’). And that men can give birth. We applaud as people with thighs like tree-trunks and Adam’s apples accept first prize in female sporting competitions, dwarfing their exhausted and bemused rivals.

We do our best not to flinch as biological males get paid untold sums to advertise tampons and sports bras. We stand back as children are given puberty-blocking hormones and encouraged to mutilate their bodies. We allow convicted rapists to inveigle themselves into women’s prisons.

We watch in silence as those whose views or behaviours don’t comply with the dogma of the impeccably woke are defenestrated, their words and actions twisted out of all proportion.

We nod as our books and plays and comedy sketches are re-written, excised of nuance, purged of meaningful, thoughtful, original or — God forbid — humorous content. We accept our history being re-written out of context and time, sacrifice our heroes to the modern cult of victimhood and blame.

… and we see immediately that this is worse than the mafia, because it’s not intimidation from just one criminal organisation, this is intimidation by an ideology that has its grip on a whole society: this is what Communism is about. They come for you, your job and your family, they make you a non-person (like the old Soviet Deep-Sixing), and they stifle your right to say what you think, to live as you choose and to have an honest say in your own future.

Our one opportunity now is to say NO quite strongly to another attempt to blindside us with their fake blandishments while they implement yet more of their onerous ideology on the last bastion of a free people – on our Constitution. This is no kindly feel-good exercise to assist aboriginal people (they are not First Nations, they were never nations) and to simply ‘listen’ to representatives (unelected though they will be). This is a grab at power to change the very nature of our sovereignty. Worse will follow.

Time to say NO to more of the same.

Friend of mine (female) genuinely believes the ABC is right wing!
From her point of view, she’s right too.

All through the 9 years of “Liberal” government, every time she switched on the ABC she saw Abbott, Turnbull or Morrison. That they were the government and naturally the centre of attention was of no account. She wanted an ABC on which they never appeared or were mentioned.

In other words, reality was right wing and she objected to it.

In one of the most grotesque votes ever taken in the Australian Senate, a majority of Senators voted NOT TO INVESTIGATE THE UNEXPLAINED NON-COVID EXCESS DEATHS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE COVID-19 “VACCINES”. This is horrifying and terrifying.

If there was any doubt whatsoever that our government is wilfully blind to the death and destruction they have caused…….this is it. The vaccine linked deaths amount to a 737 planeload of passengers unexpectedly falling from the sky every week since January 2021 and our government is not even curious as to why.

As documented by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than 10,000 Australians above historical averages are dying of heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes, dementia and other neurological diseases since the COVID “vaccines” were released near the start of 2021. These numbers do notinclude COVID declared deaths. This is the worst death rate since WWII and our government has not offered a credible explanation for the deaths. This is more than incompetence and dereliction of duty. In my view, this is sinister.

Just eff off.
Half of my relatives and probably a fair swathe of the rest of Australia could be making these sorts of silly claims in that case. If you don’t have at least an aboriginal (and not a part-part-aboriginal) grandpa or grandma then you aren’t aboriginal by any meaningful definition. You should also live in an aboriginal community or network. By any useful definition most aboriginal people, especially those who are needy, today live in the northern parts of Australia, especially if they live in remote communities. They don’t need a Canberra Voice, they need strong leadership and enforceable rules for living. They need more demountable housing in larger towns to facilitate movement away from remote communities and a proper education that dumps traditional culture in favour of useful learning for this century. There’s plenty of land rights money around to ensure they get a fair go without Albo’s Canberra vanity project. Let’s have some audits of where all the money given so far goes before we agree, as we should, to help out any more.

Re the stupid Snowy project. Don’t know if someone else has said this but it seems that the gov exempted the project from a lot of environmental rules the rest of us have to obey. One of them is the law against transporting pest fish species into other waters. Well if you like fishing for trout in Eucumbene, Tantangara and Jindabyne, do it now. The project will draw water from the pondage at Khancoban and pump it up to Tantangara, which is the highest point on the Snowy Scheme, from there it will be released down into the lower lakes. Veterans say a fresh attempt by the defence force chief to strip service medals from soldiers is unwarranted.

General Angus Campbell has written to a number of Afghanistan war veterans saying their honours for distinguished and conspicuous service could be stripped, the ABC has reported.

The proposition has landed on the desk of Defence Minister Richard Marles, who would need to make a recommendation to the governor-general.

The possible stripping of medals comes in the wake of investigations into potential war crimes carried out by Australian soldiers in Afghanistan.

This bloke should be drummed out of the service. Disgusting.

This one needs a bit of reading between the lines….

Ezekiel Narndu, 19, described as future leader of community during sentencing for Wadeye riots manslaughter

The 19-year-old who killed a man by throwing a steel bar through his skull was an emerging leader of Wadeye, set to be a ‘force for change’ in the community plagued by disadvantage, violence and gang activity, a court has heard.

The Wadeye teen who killed a man by throwing a steel bar through his skull was an emerging leader of the community who was a “force for change”, a court has heard.

Ezekiel Narndu, 19, was found guilty of reckless or negligent manslaughter earlier this month after causing the death of a 32-year-old man, known for cultural reasons as Mr Tcherna, in Wadeye on April 16, 2022.

In sentencing submissions at Darwin Supreme Court on Monday, both prosecution and defence lawyers spoke of Narndu’s prospects as a positive role model in the community often characterised by disadvantage, violence and gang activity.

Narndu graduated Year 12 in 2020, one of a group of seven who were the first to complete high school in Wadeye in 13 years.

The middle child of five boys, he was close with his family. The seven of them shared a two bedroom home where Narndu’s parents always made sure there was power on and food stocked in the fridge.

Narndu was a non-drinker and was working as a teacher’s aide coaching football at the local school, loved by students and teachers alike.

Crown prosecutor Steve Ledek said it was “very difficult” to put forward submissions for a man charged with “one of the most serious crimes” knowing the hopes that had been held for his future.

“There were expectations that a man with his obvious personality of calmness, care, consideration, and education … was going to change the way the community empower itself, give itself opportunities and be a force for change to the things that the community knew were endemically creating disharmony, chaos, disruption, and grief,” Mr Ledek said.

Defence lawyer Beth Wild said the offending was “very much a departure from character”, arguing Narndu had strong prospects for rehabilitation if he received a light sentence.

“It’s actually in the community’s interest to ensure that he doesn’t become a hardened criminal at Holtze correctional facility, that we let him back to the path that he was set upon before this tragic event occurred,” Ms Wild said.

During Narndu’s eight day trial it was revealed the then 18-year-old had been in a crowd of 150 people who were observing an attempt to mediate ongoing unrest between three family groups.

The Narndu family – one of the groups involved – was leading the peace talks, but were disrupted when a young man charged at two police officers with an axe.

Police were forced to retreat and chaos erupted, Narndu entering the fray and lobbing a steel rebar 30m through the air where it tragically speared Mr Tcherna through the face.

Prosecution argued Narndu’s actions were reckless and he threw the bar at Mr Tcherna knowing death was a possibility.

Defence have argued the bar was thrown randomly into the crowd as an act of “posturing”, and the death was an “incredibly unlucky” outcome from Narndu’s negligence.

Narndu will be sentenced at a later date.

Well said, Lizzie! This is exactly what is needed. Sadly, the damage done in encouraging “return to country” & traditional culture/language as basis of education of Aboriginal kids is now so mainstream that I doubt if it can be overturned.

Noel Pearson, for all his recent pigheadedness in relation to the Voice, has done a remarkable job in the Hope community in northern Qld in using “direct education” (AKA teacher oriented instruction of basic education learning modules) to educate community kids up there.

It has not been popular with the Woke establishment in Canberra, but it works.

The circumstances of this dreadful event can hardly be imagined by most Australians who live in capital cities. Places like Wadeye are tinder boxes for these community disputes. By maintaining these communities we have almost frozen history in relation to Aboriginal life and culture. The same family and clan disputes continue to cause terrible violence and deaths.

Sadly, the damage done in encouraging “return to country” & traditional culture/language as basis of education of Aboriginal kids is now so mainstream that I doubt if it can be overturned.

The saddest were the cases in the Kimberleys, where children who had been “away to school” returned to their Third World sh!tholes, the cycle of abuse began again, and they took their own lives as a result.

Lizzie, they have strong leadership but the wrong kind, the worst kind, all power and no care, compassion or leadership. It is completely at odds with raising a new generation of productive, independent and autonomous people. The longer this situation continues the worse it will become. The only salvation is closing the remote communities and moving the occupants to large metropolitan centres. The culture is the toxic and needs to be diluted with world norms.

Lidia Thorpe in Senate estimates row with Indigenous minister Malarndirri McCarthy: ‘You’re a disgrace to your people’

By PAIGE TAYLOR

Indigenous Senator Lidia Thorpe has stormed out of senate estimates after a shouting match with Labor MP Malarndirri McCarthy, who told the Greens-turned-independent Senator: “You are a disgrace to your people”.

Senator Thorpe and Senator McCarthy were yelling over each other during an exchange about $14.2m for community safety initiatives in the Northern Territory. After Senator Thorpe had established the money went to police, she shouted at Ms McCarthy: “How dare you”.

Senator Thorpe began questioning a senior public servant from the National Indigenous Australians Agency about whether any of its budget was given to NT Police.
Read Next

“Is black money being used for NT Police?” she asked.

The senior public servant replied that NIAA had given money for improvements in safety in communities in the NT.

Senator Thorpe said: “Community safety as in the community being safe from police? Or, which way?”.

The public servant replied: “This money is provided in two areas that have been identified as needing improvements in community safety”.

Senator Thorpe: “How much are you paying the Northern Territory police from black money?”

At this point, another public servant read from budget papers and said: “So Senator in the most recent announcements, $14.2m was provided for high visibility police and law enforcement operations. This includes targetting grog money, increasing the liquor licensing compliance and boosting security guards in public places. There was $10 million for justice reinvestment initiatives in Central Australia”

At his point, Senator Thorpe could be heard interjecting by saying: “Disgusting”

“I am so violated from that answer, I am so disgusted When the Northern Territory police get $14m when our youth services are struggling,” Senator Thorpe said.

She then turned to Senator McCarthy and said: “How can you let this happen Senator McCarthy?”

The assistant minister said the government had given $25m for youth services and, pointing at Senator Thorpe, she said: “How dare you when we have First Nations people working in the police force?”

Senator Thorpe: “Are you protecting the police?”

Senator McCarthy: “No I am telling you we have First Nations police who are doing their best to improve the situation”

Senator Thorpe: “Police are police. Doesn’t matter what colour they are”

The exchange occurred infront of Greens Senator Dorinda Cox, a Noongar woman and former police officer.

Senator McCarthy and Senator Thorpe then began talking over each other at high volume.

Senator McCarthy could be heard to say to Senator Thorpe: You are the disgrace. Rubbishing everyone for your agenda … You are a disgrace to your people.”

Senator McCarthy later withdrew her remarks and Senator Thorpe also withdrew the words “How dare you”.

Then Senator Thorpe left abruptly while talking in a sharp tone. She said in part, an apparent reference to Senator McCarthy: “been in power too long”

The Voice will solve all this, surely?

The Case For Abolishing The CIA
John Judis

December 20, 2005
The New Republic Online

Summary:
Combining gross incompetence with the violation of international law, historical problems with CIA have gotten worse under George W. Bush. The intelligence reform act passed last year didn’t address them; and the current director Porter Goss appears oblivious to them. These problems have for years plagued the two main functions of the agency: intelligence gathering and covert action.

But as Moynihan argued in his last book, Secrecy, there is a way in which the CIA’s peculiar structure and function has encouraged errors and magnified their importance. Moynihan described a “culture of secrecy” created by the CIA and other intelligence agencies. This culture produced a distinction between insiders and outsiders; and outsiders, no matter their experience or expertise, couldn’t possibly know with the same degree of certainty as insiders what was going on in a foreign country. For instance, the CIA ignored an extensive poll taken in Cuba just prior to the Bay of Pigs invasion by political scientist Lloyd A. Free that demonstrated widespread support for Fidel Castro. And prior to the Iraq war, the agency insisted that U.N. inspectors who reported an absence of WMD were being duped by Iraqis.

The distinction between insiders and outsiders not only insulated CIA analysts from obvious questions that outsiders without security clearances might ask; it also bestowed a special status upon the findings that were produced. Their very secrecy made them appear more likely to be true. Moynihan recounted how government officials gave special credence to the Gaither Report, which in 1957 wrongly predicted Soviet economic and military superiority, because it was classified.

Decades of failure.

Another one down. Well done AFL. Jay Clark in the Hun:

Hawthorn chief executive Justin Reeves has resigned from his position due to the enormous toll of the club’s racism investigation.

Reeves told the board on Wednesday he would step down and needed a break amid the intense pressure on the club.

In a statement the Hawks confirmed Reeves had resigned due to the “personal toll and the need to focus on his wellbeing”.

It comes only one week after North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson, who also stepped down for similar reasons, said Hawthorn should be investigated for its “shameful” practices throughout the racism saga spanning back to the bombshell allegations which dropped in September last year.

Reeves spent five years at Hawthorn and led the club through a turbulent period including the end of Clarkson’s reign as coach and Jeff Kennett’s second stint as president.

But it was the weight of the club’s racism investigation which has brought an intense spotlight on the club, including decisions the Hawks made to commence the probe, and its alleged treatment of indigenous and First Nations’ players between 2008-2016.

Reeves is undecided on his next move but confirmed to the club he will take some time away to deal with the stress and scrutiny of the past eight months.

Chief commercial officer Ash Klein will take over as acting CEO as the club, led by president Andy Gowers, begins the search for a new chief executive officer.

Reeves said it was the right time for change at Hawthorn as he looked to prioritise his mental health and spend more time with family.

There’s more in the article but I couldn’t really be bothered with it due to blood pressure rising. Just real arseholery on display by AFL and the pricks running the racism complaint.

Some of these claims of Aboriginality would make Elizabeth Warren blush.

My granddaughter is only indigenous by her grandfather. If I had my way it would not be centre to who she is. But since the department has deemed her as ‘identifying’ as indigenous we have to go along with it to get access and eventually kinship care.
My aunty told me how her coloured freinds in Cape Town felt unwelcome in eather culture. I fear with the growing resentment my granddaughter ending up like that. Unless we get her in time.

Big names are expected to speak at the “Post Pandemic China-Australia Economic Forum” hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce at the Park Hyatt on June 5 and 6.

The event is co “supported” by the Australia China Business Council and the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, whose vice chairman Feng Wei will speak at the opening ceremony.

It might be noted, at least according to author and researcher Alex Joske, that the institute is staffed by veterans of China’s Ministry of State Security.

The ubiquitous Chinese ambassador Xiao Qian will speak at the opening.

Another speaker is thought to be Premier Dan Andrews, who recently went to China sans media for a series of unreported meetings, where he did not raise the case of Victorian journalist Cheng Lei, imprisoned in China for the past two-and-a-half years.

Do we assume that Andrews will not provide “a running commentary” on the upcoming event, given his office has ignored media requests to confirm or deny Andrews’ appearance at the forum?

So we have Albo and Marles getting submarines in the next century to protect against Chinese aggression, yet Andrews is giving fellatio to the same mob. What gives?

Calvary Health Care at ‘impasse’ with government as protesters lament ‘diabolical’ hospital takeover

There’s also been an outcry from religious communities, with the Australian Christian Lobby protesting outside the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, urging the ACT Government to reconsider the acquisition.

Wow, it really seems like Higgins wanted the investigation reopened only to add weight to her media ambitions.
As for police investigating, the starting point is a detailed interview/statement from the accuser.
What would you expect them to investigate without a proper sworn statement?
I know #metoo think it should go accusation, guilty, arrest, sentence, prison.

I intend to use statements from our ‘elite’ that suggest Teh Voice isn’t racist and is all hugs, rainbows and unicorns.

The Australian:

ASIO warns the Indigenous voice to parliament campaign may trigger ’spontaneous violence’ ahead of the referendum

Indigenous leader Thomas Mayo, a member of the government’s referendum working group, said Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s claim the voice would insert race into the Constitution was “unhelpful” and had been detrimental to the tone of the debate. He remained optimistic the referendum would succeed, despite polling showing support for the voice had fallen.

“I have optimism because it is a simple proposition and it’s a modest proposition,” Mr Mayo told Sky News. “It’s not about inserting race into the Constitution. It’s about an Indigenous people that have a special place in this country. I think most Australians would agree with that now.

“It’s a beautiful culture that we have and that we’re generously offering this year to all Australians. I think that truth alone is enough to get this through. I think the consistency of our message that this is an invitation is going to ultimately carry us through.”

Morrison actually made a fair point in his comments about the Voice:

Mr Morrison – an avid rugby league fan – also criticised sporting bodies and companies for interfering in the process of constitutional change.

“Such groups can represent whatever views they like, it’s a free country,” he said.

“However, while keenly interested in the NRL’s opinion on hip-drop tackles and the six-again rule, I respectfully won’t be deferring to the NRL for constitutional advice to guide my decision.”

Marcus Stewart’s claim to be a proud “Nira illim bulluk man of the Taungurung Nation” is based on an Aboriginal great – great grandfather.

I thought I’d edumacate myself, so I searched for the bolded phrase. Interestingly, the first umpteen hits are all about our friend Marcus. In fact, they all seem to be that (disclaimer… only a couple of pages searched).

One thing that did come up (though not with the exact phrase) was this, from the Taungurung Land and Water Council web site (surely, one might think, authoritative?) :

Taungurung People identify ourselves by descent from identified Taungurung ancestors. Some of us also identify with one of the fifteen clans that make up Taungurung, namely Benbendore-balluk, Buthera-balluk, Gunung-Yellam, Leuk-willam, Moomoomgoonbeet, Nattarak-balluk, Ngurai-illam-balluk, Nira-balluk, Tenbringnellams, Walledriggers, Waring-illam-balluk, Warrinillum, Yaran-illam, Yirun-ilam-balluk, and Yowung-illam-balluk.

It is interesting how proud our Marcus is of his “Nira illim bulluk”-icity in light of the fact that his “nation” doesn’t appear to have heard of said -icity.

So I am left to ponder, but none the better educmacated.

“Dark Emu Exposed”

An Aussie’s Conundrum

As we learn more about Marcus Stewart’s ancestry, many of us are asking some simple questions.

With such a major, and aristocratic, Scottish ancestry, why is Marcus Stewart selectively presenting himself to the rest of us as an Aboriginal man only?

Why are we being asked to ‘negotiate a treaty’ with Marcus Stewart, who claims he is an Aboriginal, Nira illim bulluk man of the Taungurung Nation?

To our mind, he looks, speaks and lives just like the rest of us – he still carries the name of his ancestral Scottish clan, so why should he have any special legal, constitutional or moral rights over the rest of us?

Now, we are not saying he has no Aboriginal ancestry, and we are not denying him his right to identify anyway that he wishes. That is his perfect right – but that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to believe it too. When many of us look at him we see him as one of our ‘mob’ – an Aussie with a large part of Scottish ancestry – [I’m 28% Scottish by DNA myself – Marcus and I come from the same ‘mob.’ – Editor].

And so we think he might be ’pulling-our-leg’ a bit with this ‘con-job’ of Treaty and its ultimate goal of ‘co-sovereignty’ for a few select and lucky Australians who claim that they are Aboriginal.

We have a chuckle to ourselves when Marcus tells us, with a straight face, that he and,

‘First Nations people have a unique connection to this country and our care and knowledge of it run deep. The voice [referendum] is about having a taste of that inserted into the heart of Australia’s democratic system. By voting Yes you will lose absolutely nothing, but everyone stands to gain so much.

We all came to this place called home from different paths, whether we were born here or drawn here. This is where we find ourselves together now …

Look at me. Look at my skin. Every day, whether it’s heckling on social media or barbs from some privileged right-wing media commentator, I have people saying to me “you’re not Aboriginal, you’re white”. They can’t seem to get their head around the notion that some Aboriginal people have fair skin, but this is what the impact of colonisation looks like.

I am the embodiment of a history that complicates our relationship with the place we call home. For whatever reason, I find myself here, today, calling Australia home …’

If the right want to change the zeitgeist, if they to claw back power and if they want to try and change things, then they need to do what the Greens did, and start with local councils. It’s the only way.

I have questions (possibly rhetorical).

This rally for Modi was held in Australia not India right? It looked like the whole crowd was Indian. Did they fly in on holidays especially for it or would they be residents / citizens of this great land? I’m concerned about their loyalty to us if citizens.

Perhaps they are residents who are here to live a safe and prosperous life before retiring back to India one day (similar to other migrants who make use of our pensions back home)?

On another tangent, with the Feds sucking up to India and the states sucking up to China are they hoping that those two may settle any military disputes here, thus preserving their own lands? Maralinga would make a great battleground for them I think.

I don’t think there is any loyalty to Australia from either other than to the extent they can get something from us. But then so is the US at present.

ASIO warns the Indigenous voice to parliament campaign may trigger ’spontaneous violence’ ahead of the referendum

The only people who exhibit spontaneous violence are the clinically insane, and even then you could argue it is against a perceived threat (which only they can see). Everybody else who practises violence has identified a new gap between how they perceive the world to be and how they desire the world to be, their desire isn’t budging, and they can’t see any other option working. It is not spontaneous in the slightest because it has a cause, it does not appear out of nothing. It’s probably a mistaken perception and almost certainly an unwise course of action, but to call it spontaneous is at least a misnomer. The very fact that ASIO can predict this shows it has a cause and a buildup – not spontaneous. Of course one hopes that the legislature is still in charge of the public service, but the Government should take this message from ASIO as a hint that the Yes campaign must employ more Realpolitik, more listening to the opposing argument, less sneaking around the referendum with State-level contrivances, and less brinksmanship on the consequences of a No result.

I’d also suggest that the No campaign (if it ever raises its head above water) should talk about alternative resolutions to these (apparent) intercultural rifts, to be applied in the case of a No result, so that No isn’t simply No, rather a “No, but…”.

Indigenous leader Thomas Mayo … said Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s claim the voice would insert race into the Constitution

It’s not Peter Dutton’s claim, it’s your own proposal. It’s not called the “People of Unspecified Origin Voice To Parliament” is it? Just stop lying about the InVoice, it can’t be that difficult.

Peter Dutton’s claim the voice would insert race into the Constitution was “unhelpful” and had been detrimental to the tone of the debate.

That’s the woke mind virus at work, deploying a double standard of interpretation. Every insulting tone and offensive statement that they make will be excused by themselves as simply unarguable relevant literal truth, and any substantive statement their opponents make about the issue will be dismissed as merely an unhelpful tone.

the consistency of our message that this is an invitation

I know I always end up going anywhere that I invite myself to. That’s how invitations work, isn’t it? Isn’t it?

The only two reasons I can imagine anybody would get violent about this referendum is if they either 1) did not want to decide the issue democratically, or 2) believed No are in the majority and that the referendum will be rigged or bypassed.
All sides should try to talk down or rein-in their own extreme members. All sides should work to convince us that this decision process is not railroaded and that their arguments would result in the best outcome for most people (obviously).

Speaking of home lands, we’ve just spent a lovely day in our lower garden with some tree men doing work on various palms, including a date palm that needed to be cut to be higher. The guys cut into three layers of massive fronds and carried them, prickly things, up five flights of steps to the road. It looks great now. One of the offsiders looked at our 400 odd square metres below a big cliff of rock ledges, at the big area of mown grass we’ve established in the middle, at the big old Jacaranda and Gum and other trees and tall palms of some age, and our new orchard plantings now thriving, and said this looks at though it should be a public park.

We couldn’t have had a better compliment. I wandered around picking off bugs and curled leaves, pulling up weeds and picking up some small sticks for the compost area and it felt like a very productive day. Hairy supervised the cutting back of the mulberry and some other things gone haywire.

The Victorian legal system, in full bloom (the Hun):

A magistrate has wished a protester all the best with his climate fight after he caused peak hour traffic chaos in the CBD on Tuesday.

Hundreds of infuriated drivers were forced to wait up to three hours as Extinction Rebellion protester Dr Nick Abel locked himself to a mini-van parked across two lanes of the Kings Way inbound exit ramp off the West Gate Freeway, about 8.40am.

But Dr Abel, 79, showed little regard for the mayhem he and his fellow protesters caused as he told Magistrate Julia Barling he would continue to disrupt traffic over his climate change views.

Ooooh, I hope that magistrate gives him what for:

The honorary associate professor at ANU, who was recently arrested at a climate protest in Canberra after dousing a plaque outside the Department of Environment in red paint, said the law wouldn’t deter him.

“I do this for the publicity,” he said.

Smack him up, magistrate! Send a message!

Despite Dr Abel’s admissions, Ms Barling spared the elderly protester from conviction, handing him a $500 fine instead.

“I do wish you all the best in raising awareness.”

Baby Jesus wept tears of rage. Shocked, but not surprised.

In some respects, some, this is not too far from the truth … yes I know it is tv, but.

In reality, considering all the three and four letter agencies are corrupt to the core ( have you been loving under a rock if you disagree? ), those eleven journos would already be on a list.

“Happy for you to disagree with me.”

I don’t, and I actually agree with Morrison’s point. It’s just that given his recent history, he should shut up.

  1. We’re almost a quarter of the way through the twenty-first century. And the world isn’t ended yet. Despite global warming…

  2. Some former Prime Minister died, in case anyone is actually interested. Your casual racism is really wearing thick.
