Supporters of an Indigenous voice have said the body must be established so it can negotiate treaty, undermining Anthony Albanese’s declaration that the referendum is “not about a treaty”.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why he doesn’t want to talk about detail.
I see a repeat of “Broken Hearted Republicans” coming up -
I do understand how and why revolutions happen.
Funny, someone mentioned the Ceacescus upthread.
That was an era where the conventional wisdom was that Communist Eastern Europe would soften somewhat, introduce a few Western trinkets like Maccas and Coca-Cola, but would remain staunchly Communist at it’s core.
And then it all imploded like a fibreglass submarine within months. -

Jul 19, 2023 8:27 PMLaws is almost unknown in Sydney’s western suburbs where 2GB is still the top station even if not as popular as it used to be during Alan Jones’ time. The only reason I know who Laws is dates back to my childhood when he was the daytime radio.
In my days as a trainee nurse Bob Rogers was favourite but did see Laws on TV and Bandstand a few times:

Rose was into the morphine. She also married her real estate agent, slick willy. He turned out to be gay in the end I think. Complicated people.
Not sure who you are talking about, but let’s see.
Opioid abuse and a gay real estate agent with the nick-name “slick Willy”.
Gold Coast, Sydney or Perth, right? -
Cassie,
while in Freo last week I pulled the car up to park behind a small bus with Jewish Library written on it.
also covered in what I assume was Hebrew, and with religious type imageryI did think that maybe I was too close to the bus and kept looking at it while I’m having a smoke after an hour’s drive and standing there with my laptop wheely-bag
after a few minutes a young fella gets out of the bus and asks with a New York accent, “are you Jewish?”
I said, “nah, but I was wondering if I’m parked too close to the back of yr truck?”
any way we got talking and it turns out him and his mate had just flown outta New York, grabbed the bus and driven across the Nullabor
sponsored from Melbourne community of course, they were on some Jewish out-reach program to track down lost Western Aussie Jews that had become distanced from Judaism.
or something like that … apparently they had a list of people to visitI asked jokingly if the reason they stopped me was because of the beard and the black bag
the younger stared at me and said,in a very Jewish way, “you look Jewish”I said, “Lemme tell you about my grand-mother’s last words to me”
… only a year or two ago the 100 yo was looking at me intently and she turned to my Aunt and says, “Oh, he’s a proper Jew isn’t he?’legend has it that Nan’s lineage was of Jewish Mercers in Melbourne
but it’s only a legendanyways, it raised their interest until they found out it was on my bio-father’s side
and I did tell them that I knew about the matrilineal thingthey were impressed that I knew … but still a little baffled
they were nice guys

Gold Coast, Sydney or Perth, right?
Between consenting adults in a loving and mutually respectful relationship, not that there is anything wrong with that. Of course.
Willy Porteus is a big deal in the real estate business in Perth, if the number of billboards is anything to go by at least. I think his kids run the thing now.

“they were nice guys”
Very nice guys. Chabad Lubavitchers, they do outreach among Jews to try and bring Jews back into the fold, to get people to keep kosher, put tefillin on, go to Shule etc.
Great people. Lubavitchers are one of numerous Hasidic sects. The Lubavitcher headquarters are in NYC. Before the Holocaust there were dozens of Hasidic sects scattered across Eastern Europe and Russia, pious people. Up until World War II Eastern Europe was a Yiddish land, with a vibrant culture, a land that has now vanished, with almost all the Jews that lived there murdered.

Rose built a grotesque pile called Prix dMour in Mosman Park. Since been reverted I think.
She has divorced and downsized, there are visions of a Howard Hughes style decline involving regular injections and a mormon manservant to rotate the tissue box slippers.

They can do their thing, but I’m stickin’ with being a lapsed Huegenot.
I’ll go to temple for Bar Mitzvahs, end of Ramadan, Christmas and the Dalai Lama’s birthday.

I think someone said this afternoon that Nigel Farage’s balance dipped below the required amount for the hoity-toity bank he was banking with.
I have heard tell of required minimum amounts for some institutions.
Thankfully, we can all rest assured he wasn’t ‘cancelled’ by Big Bank and the Cartels and the Lizard Overlords/R-child people due to his moderate conservative views.
Sorry Faulty, but you’ll have to wait for another day.

the Cafe Locked Out people were there in Freo a couple of times with their own bus
… didn’t talk to them though

UK military to improve thanks to Ukraine ‘battle lab’ – minister
Britain will roll out new combat technology faster after learning from the ongoing conflict, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has told MPs
The UK is learning from Ukraine in order to improve its own armed forces, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has said, as he presented an updated national military strategy document to Parliament.
Ukraine has “tragically become a battle lab” for military technology, Wallace, who intends to step down during the next cabinet reshuffle, told MPs on Tuesday. He was presenting to fellow lawmakers the new version of the Defence Command Paper, first published in 2021.
“In this refresh we are focused on how to drive the lessons of Ukraine into our core business,” Wallace added. The British military is “enabling a culture of innovation,” he claimed, explaining one of the four key modernization directions outlined by his department.
“Following Ukraine’s footsteps, we are increasing the sourcing of those £100 solutions that can stop 100 million [pound] threats in their tracks, winning both the kinetic and economic exchange of modern warfare,” Wallace stated.
The plan also seeks increased investment in military personnel, closer cooperation with the defense industry, and a boost in productivity within the department.
Senior Ukrainian officials, including Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov, have touted their nation as a natural testing ground for Western-made weapons.
“We are interested in testing modern systems in the fight against [Russia] and we are inviting the arms manufacturers to test their new products here,” the Ukrainian minister told the pro-NATO Atlantic Council lobby group last month. “Give us the tools, we will finish the job and you will have new information.”
Wallace is among the most enthusiastic public supporters of Ukraine, and has consistently expressed certainty that it would prevail in the conflict with Russia.
During the parliamentary debate on Tuesday, the minister claimed that the measures formulated by his office would allow the UK to obtain military capabilities faster and be more agile in deploying them globally. Britain’s activities would be linked to those of its allies, he insisted.
“In the future, we will be allied by design and national by exception. Our support for NATO will remain ironclad,” Wallace pledged.
Moscow has blamed NATO’s expansion for triggering hostilities with Ukraine. By supplying weapons to Kiev, the US and its allies are prolonging the conflict but will not change its outcome, Russian officials have said. Moscow also accused the British government of being instrumental in derailing peace talks with Ukraine last year.

Jul 19, 2023 2:54 PMA 42-year-old prisoner charged over the death of a fellow inmate at Hakea Prison — who was due to be sentenced for luring a little girl to his house — has admitted to his murder.
The murderer is also a pedo.
A good reason to not cheer on this “let prisoners kill other prisoners” nonsense.
It is one clear case where CP would be legitimate if guilt could be proven beyond any doubt without any mitigating factors.

The required amount in Australia may be a fee of $10 a month – hence $10.
If it was a merchant back or similar; he might have taken a capital loss recently. I suspect it is political fuggery. What minimums do they require? If his chequing (what Australians for some unexplained reason, call a “savings” account) was being used for margin lending, uummm?

LOL. Hitting a legitimate logistics and supply target in time of war is terrorism? Pull the other one.
This is one reason why I discount Russian milbloggers, they are discrediting themselves with this hyperbolic rubbish. They’d be much more credible if they played a straight bat.
Yes, it is rather silly. Ed Case could be writing the “sit reps”.

Apologies Doverlord.
Forgot about the R word.
Just use the phrase “International Bankers”.
Speaking of that sort of thing, someone mentioned that it is coming up two years since this august weblog was launched.
Kudos to Dover for not only keeping the hamsters fed, but also keeping the scourge of “International Bankers” at bay, along with a couple of other hysterical grifters from Sinc blog. -
Seems like the Telegraph UK is prepping their readers for defeat in Ukraine.

Both of you can now carry on as you will. I just needed to clear up the ‘stalking’ issue.
Well, ferk you, Saint Delta. You can hold those views of me and that’s fine, tell us some more about your cooking and your wonderful family and how much they all love you and your wise advice, but you have cleared nothing up at all. Johanna has absolutely stalked me, in such appalling detail (and far more actually) as I have added in a piece below your comment, for more than ten years here now. That is much more egregious than saying, as you do, that you don’t like me much, if at all. Horses for courses there, my dear, after you took offense at something I apparently said about your leg and I haven’t got a clue in the world what that was, apologising anyway, as I don’t like being offensive to people.
I speak of my life as it is, as I live it day by day, in all of the autism chaos that you claim to know so much about, fixing things where I can and doing my best. Am I never to speak of as my life here in that regard, while others may feel free to merrily carry on about their days? I think self-satisfied middle class people such as you, who have had every opportunity in life, who do not deal with the mental illnesses and other issues that I have had surrounding me, have a great deal of hide to make comments such as you do about me.
I ask you, Delta, to imagine being labelled with the narrative of smears and untruths and then the doxxing that the stalker has pushed on to me in her fixated attacks, which always come unasked and unwarranted by anything that I have said, only prompted by her hostility to my seeming good luck in life. I could do the same illustration for you that I did to show Bushkid how unpleasant such fabrications and nastinesses are, but one example is quite enough.
My husband says he can no longer come in here to check what is happening to me on this blog. He finds it extremely distressing and naturally doesn’t want me on it, as has happened in the past when everything has been soured by yet another of this vicious fixated female’s attacks. This time however I refused to be cowed. I will answer back not, as I said to Tom, crawl down a hole wounded. My husband wants me to give her a hearty ‘feck you, you stupid bitch’ back every time she attacks, and to regard the upticks as sheer fabrications rather than see a problem with the people here. However, clearly there is a problem with a lot of the people here. I explain to him that any retorts simply encourage a stoush, stoush, onya girls, mentality here. I’ve had years of saying stop your vile attacks. I am not going to leave this blog, nor change how I am here, and I intend to continue on as usual, except that I will not write travelogues any more.
Tom’s comment to me has put me right off that.

Tom, while I am here and insomniac and your toons are soon coming up, let me say something about misogyny, which KD found a surprising inclusion when it occurred in deliberate rant I offered.
My father was a difficult man, and as with these things, they continue down generations. I have not escaped from the past he inflicted on me, and he did not escape from that he suffered as a child. When ‘naughty’, as this very bright child was, he was locked in a dark coal cellar with the rats and cockroaches. As an adolescent he made crystal radios, which his father threw out saying the devil would come down the aerial. He had some minor technical education and ended up a foreman in a car factory at Rolls Royce in Coventry at that time when Lord Beaverbrook poached all of the good ones to work on the Merlin engine. My father was instrumental in solving a major problem with it, but when he was sent to Australia to help with Spitfire production and the atomic bomb ended the need for such planes (there were graveyards of them) he started out on his own. His personality was bipolar with huge ups and downs, and life with him was difficult. He obsessed about ‘petticoat government’ within the family with a wife and two daughters and one younger son.
He was born in 1910 and was of Victorian generation in his attitudes to women. In his increasingly black moods he would rail against us three and for me and my sister, take it out on us with a ‘clip around the earhole’. Eventually he took to holding a knife; and we left.Tom, no ‘clip’ of his, which could be fierce and bruising, ever hurt me more than the clip around the earhole you made to me recently on this thread, literally sending me off, with a nasty epithet attached. It hurt because it was you. I’d shrug off others. You and I go back a long way, to the days of Bunyipitude. I had thought better of you. You reminded me of my father. Brutal, and very male, in a very old-fashioned and not good way. OK, so I annoyed you. Didn’t deserve that.
I’ve been beaten about in my life by more men than my father, and still have faith in good men like Hairy. I had you pegged as one of the good sort, encouraging and friendly. Not so. Simply joining in with the mob.

This can all die now on the old thread.
I’m going back to bed, to wake as today’s woman not yesterday’s.
A word about that from Christopher Brennan, always a favorite of mine on my birthday recalling the journey so far.
Ye have built you unmysterious homes and ways in the wood
where of old ye went with sudden eyes to the right and left;
and your going was now made safe and your staying comforted,
for the forest edge itself, holding old savagery
in unsearch’d glooms, was your houses’ friendly barrier.
And now that the year goes winterward, ye thought to hide
behind your gleaming panes, and where the hearth sings merrily
make cheer with meat and wine, and sleep in the long night,
and the uncared wastes might be a crying unhappiness.
But I, who have come from the outer night, I say to you
the winds are up and terribly will they shake the dry wood:
the woods shall awake, hearing them, shall awake to be toss’d and riven,
and make a cry and a parting in your sleep all night
as the wither’d leaves go whirling all night along all ways.
And when ye come forth at dawn, uncomforted by sleep,
ye shall stand at amaze, beholding all the ways overhidden
with worthless drift of the dead and all your broken world:
and ye shall not know whence the winds have come, nor shall ye know
whither the yesterdays have fled, or if they were.
