Posters were talking about Nelson Mandela a couple of days ago. A reminder of Winnie’s work via Tim Blair:
“We have no guns – we have only stones, boxes of matches and petrol,” she told a township crowd. “Together, hand in hand, with our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country.”
Necklacing was the deceptively innocent term for putting a petrol-soaked burning tyre around a perceived traitor’s neck.
Most notoriously, she was found guilty of ordering the kidnapping of a 14-year-old boy, Stompie Seipei, who was beaten and later had his throat slit.
Madikizela-Mandela was acquitted of all but the kidnapping, but the incident remains the greatest stain on her record; years later, she was convicted of more than 40 charges of fraud.
From a while back and will need a subscription for that, but if you are quick, you can get the first couple of paragraphs in.
Fair to say the Mandela name is soiled.

Every major airline in the world has done that. Did Qantas book the unpaid fare as profit or did they leave it in a suspense account?
A large amount of these unpaid fares were bookings done with other airlines such as Qantas booking flights beyond their final destination. Has United or American repaid the fares to Qantas? it’s not as simple as you want to believe.

And you know this to be direct fraud and not an incredible screw up within internal operation? How so?
Recall, the airline had been grounded for ages and to think there would be no teething problems as they got back to operational level is Liars Party delusional. This was a operation that had never closed down before, for months and months. They lost key staff, and not recognizing the potential for confusion shows incredible hubris. Last time I looked I saw that you linked to a set of ACCC allegations, while prior to that you were suggesting Q had committed fraud and the former CEO’s wings should be clipped. Excuse me if I suggested you ought to calm down a little and see what the other side has to say before acting like a one man judge and jury.
If you had any exposure to how revenue management works for a large airline of Qantas size you’d know that it doesn’t stop & the airline operation/survival depends on it completely.
Without further explanation, the above sounds like gibberish. Working in IT doesn’t make you an airline expert. Moreover it doesn’t make you an expert in crisis management, which Q went through when they were allowed to fly. Helping lay out software for a rural airline isn’t the same thing as doing it for Q.
That and the rostering systems.
Incredible insight. So revenue management includes staff rostering too does it? Unique.

Very few cars on the main A1 super-highway, and police roadblocks for anything going the other direction – eg: outwards from Athens and northwards. Freeways empty. Cars going the other way were lined up, with police advising them and generally turning them around. But there was one constant – Mrs TE guessed we would have six tolls, we were up to 5 with 100kms to go. They varied from 90p through to seven euros.

Turtlehead,
That comment wasn’t directed to you. It was meant for angry Karen who is equally as stupid and pathetic as you are. You’re aware of this obviously, and trying out some twisted passive aggressive attempt to swing ticks.
And the temerity of your newly found attitude that I shouldn’t talk to you? I’ve been me asking you to stop grovelling to me for 5 years.
Where will this rubbish end? Hello, anyone in Parliament House on a late Sunday night representing the Australian Voters? No and I didn’t fink’ so…………………
On the way back from the Big Smoke, I stopped at Tambo pub and the place went dead quiet when someone said “I hear there has been a claim made on the Common Property of about 5,000 acres at Barcaldine.”
I haven’t heard anything to support or deny the story, but there are a lot of dodgy claims coming out of the woodwork.
Everyone is so fed up with it and don’t want it for all eternity.

Even though I always thought Costello was smarmy and smug and thus not PM material I never thought he would turn into such a leftie.
That’s interesting because I wouldn’t soil Dover’s blog with pastes coming from a dishonest convicted fraudster. I also would pasta that rubbish to be openly spiteful against people complaining about that crap. You’ve often said you were doing so for that reason (spite).
Not really, people can go back and look. I haven’t made a single comment about your laughable posts for several weeks. The only time I responded was to your abusive comment toward me and I alerted the blog owner (after which you suggested I was a tell tale and driller chimed in). You’ve been spazzing like a dishonest criminal ever since.

Marxism sure isn’t about caring and sharing- it’s about impoverishment and wrecking where only the nomenklatura can enjoy life.

I don’t think Peter Costello, as chair on Nine Media, has much control over what happens in the newspaper wing, that is the former Fairfax staples. Costello and other board members make commercial decisions, they don’t make editorial decisions.

I think the Voice would have passed in all states except for one thing, the welcome to country ceremonies and recitations of acknowledgement of “always was, always will be” before every public outing and even the lowliest level meetings in both corporate world and public service. Everyone is so fed up with it and don’t want it for all eternity.
The last straw was reciting the acknowledgement before the Dawn Service on ANZAC Day.
In that case the solution is simple, defund that of which you disapprove. Costello holds the purse strings yet does not exercise the power that comes with it so the only thing I can conclude is that he approves.

I agree Crossie. Peter Costello does a really good job with the Future Fund. He doesn’t need to get dragged into this other shite. He I thought is better than that.
The utter flood of native title claims over anything and everything is in reaction to the NO referendum side rising in the polls. It is a retaliation and a show of strength to inform the majority population that we don’t matter and will never matter. JC> Selling a product that doesn’t exist because Qantas had already cancelled rge flights days before. Thats quite simple breach of trust, selling a product that does not exist. The Irish Short Arse got caught out Big Time. And so he had to go.

I hope that the ACCC spank Quaintarse big time and fine them as much as they can. Then the Shareholders get the hump and boot out the Board and Chairperson.
Then start from scratch and have a proper Airline. Otherwise it is more of the same BS – ‘And I still call Australia home music crap’.
Quaintarse indeed – Alf Garnet got it right in 1970 –
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBRPx21Qn1c
And you know this to be direct fraud and not an incredible screw up within internal operation? How so?
Recall, the airline had been grounded for ages and to think there would be no teething problems as they got back to operational level is Liars Party delusional. This was a operation that had never closed down before, for months and months. They lost key staff, and not recognizing the potential for confusion shows incredible hubris. Qantas isn’t as Kebab stand. It’s an incredibly complex logistical operation.
You know this because you’ve read it in Fairfax press?
Of course it is and you have zero knowledge that it’s not. For instance, a Qantas ticket extends to NY etc. It’s coded as a Qantas flight even though the carrier would be American or United.
Oh yeah, that fount of endless knowledge.
Oh and soon after the opening after lockdown, Qantas wasn’t code sharing most likely because they hadn’t got to that.

And you are quite correct.
Last time I looked we still had a working legal system with process for determining guilt or innocence. My 2 cents on Qantas is just an opinion, not a legal charge or court order. You seem confused about what this blog does and how the law works. There is a difference.
If you had any exposure to how revenue management works for a large airline of Qantas size you’d know that it doesn’t stop & the airline operation/survival depends on it completely. That and the rostering systems.

Thanks! I do try so very hard and don’t always get the recognition I probably deserve.
Incredible insight. So revenue management includes staff rostering too does it? Unique.

Not a good idea to go to battle unarmed.
Joyce’s big mistake was not paying back the money for cancelled flights.
JC> I wouldn’t call Cathay Pacific a “tiny rural airline”. And the data behind ACCC actions is recorded in multiple systems and shared with airports, govt, partners, security services etc.
Lets see what the legal process ends up producing. From my p.o.v. Qantas is on the nose and taking people’s money for cancelled services is not just sharp practice or clever business its basic fraud.
A few weeks ago you were telling us you worked at BAC, Merrill Lynch and now you’re running the IT system for Cathay. Umm Okay.
Still, you’re not making any valid point to support the initial claims you made that Q and the CEO acted fraudulently. I’ve been saying that we need to be cautious before we throw around these accusations. You disagree.
WTF are you saying now? Who is doubting that these fares weren’t recorded? You really are the one embarrassing yourself now.
Let’s go back to first base.
You made the claim that Q and CEO acted fraudulently. Provide evidence for the assertion and not some nob ACCC website detailing the flights that were cancelled.
Go!

We retreated to a small village called Glifa for an overnight rethink. All of central Greece was flooded with very bad headlines So we spent several hours working out our options, and decided on bring our flight forward…back to Oz on Monday night.
Travelling back to Athens was weird, like something out of an “end of the world SF movie”.
We gave car #4 of our travels back to Mr Hertz, and found an Air BnB in a seaside area of Athens. Flying the excellent Qatar Air again home.
