Only 11% of Republicans reported some confidence in the media establishment, according to Friday’s poll. However, the 47-point gap between respondents from the two major US political parties is the narrowest recorded since 2016, when Republicans’ trust in the establishment had fallen dramatically.
The survey sampled 1,016 Americans during the first two weeks of September. It is only the second time since Gallup began asking the question in 1972 that more Americans professed no confidence at all in the media than those who claimed to have a great deal or fair amount of trust.

Getting back to the news at hand.
Every undergrad and grad coming out of Ivy League looking for work will now have to pass some sort of certification before getting a job at big firms in any field.

JC, the problem for our erstwhile graduates is that they are used to being able to say what they like, which is great (even though they want to deny others that right). As free speech should be but until now they haven’t had to suffer the consequences of what they say.

IEA: World’s electric grids incapable of supporting renewable energy goals

While investments in renewable energy have doubled since 2010, power grid funding has remained ‘static.’
Electricity grid capacity available in the world isn’t keeping pace with the rapid growth of “clean energy” technologies, possibly putting governments’ climate goals at risk, according to a recent report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
In order to achieve climate goals set by global governments, more than 80 million kilometers (49.7 million miles) of electric grids have to be added or refurbished by 2040, which is the “equivalent of the entire existing global grid,” according to the Oct. 17 IEA report.
Even though “electrification and renewables deployment are both picking up pace,” there is a risk of the clean energy transition stalling due to a lack of “adequate grids to connect the new electricity supply with the demand.”
“At least 3,000 gigawatts (GW) of renewable power projects, of which 1,500 GW are in advanced stages, are waiting in grid connection queues — equivalent to five times the amount of solar PV and wind capacity added in 2022,” the report noted.
“This shows grids are becoming a bottleneck for transitions to net zero emissions.”
While investments in renewable energy such as solar and wind power, electric vehicles (EV), and heat pumps have been “increasing rapidly” — almost doubling since 2010 — the investment in power grids has remained “static” at around $300 billion annually, it said.
The 2015 Paris Climate Accords agreed to hold the global increase in average temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Delays in establishing the necessary power grid could put this target “out of reach,” the report stated.
While the IEA report proposes boosting the power grid infrastructure to accomplish the transition to green energy, such transitioning attempts could endanger the reliability of the grid.
In the United States, many electricity operators have taken a stance against stringent greenhouse gas emission rules being imposed on the power generation sector by the Biden administration in its attempt to push renewable energy.
In an Aug. 8 statement, a group of Independent Systems Operators and Regional Transmission Organizations warned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that the agency’s proposed emission regulations on the power sector “have the potential to materially and adversely impact electric reliability.”
A host of CO2 emissions rules and decades of efforts to limit fossil fuels have resulted in the retirement of coal and gas power plants at a pace faster than the installation of solar and wind facilities, it said.
Since wind and solar are weather-dependent, there’s a lack of reliable backup sources, raising concerns about potential power shortages, the group stated.

Terrorist attack in UK linked to Gaza
Asylum seeker suspect arrested as fears grow over safety of weekend protests
An asylum seeker bent on avenging deaths in Gaza has carried out a suspected terrorist attack in Britain, The Telegraph can disclose.
The public has not been told that the man, who came to the UK in 2020, told police he had done it for “Palestine”.
MPs said on Friday night that the public had a right to know, amid warnings that demonstrations this weekend could encourage so-called lone-wolf terrorist attacks.
The world is on high alert for such attacks after the United States issued a “worldwide caution” to its citizens to be extra vigilant wherever they live.
Meanwhile, the BBC finally bowed to criticism of its refusal to call Hamas terrorists, saying it would no longer refer to them as militants by default and would instead call Hamas a group “proscribed as a terror organisation by the UK Government and others”.
News of the Gaza-linked alleged terror attack in the UK comes after Jonathan Hall KC, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, said he was concerned that disgruntled individuals might feel they “get permission” from big demonstrations to turn to violence.
He said: “I am worried about the cork coming out of the bottle and some lone individual saying: ‘Right, now it’s time to act.’”
Suspect in custody
The Telegraph has discovered that just such an alleged attack has already taken place.
The details that can be reported are highly restricted for legal reasons, but the suspect – who is now in custody – said after his arrest that he had done it because Israel had killed children in Gaza.
Senior politicians have questioned why such information has not been made public at a time when the police and security services are on high alert for terrorist attacks motivated by the Israel-Gaza war.
A security source said: “They may be downplaying it so that they don’t have repeat attacks or copycat attacks.”
Earlier this week, it emerged that a Tunisian man who shot dead two Swedish football fans in Brussels had arrived in Europe on a boat that landed on the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Sir Iain Duncan Smith, the former leader of the Conservative Party, said: “I think the public does have a right to know that something has happened. If they are worried about reaction, people need to know whether their streets are safe.
“I was shocked by the flag-waving on Saturday. ‘From the river to the sea’ is Hamas’s song for getting rid of the Jews,” he said, referring to the chant by some demonstrators.
“It would be helpful to know these things are happening. I understand the sensitivities. The issue is whether people have a right to know whether things are going on on their streets.
“It needs to be carefully done but we need a greater level of clarity about whether we have a problem about extremists on our streets.”
Asked if there was squeamishness over links to migration, he said: “All these things are connected. I understand the sensitivities but the police need to be clear if this was an attack by an extremist. We need to know that.”
A senior counter-terror official said: “It just illustrates the risk when you get stressed individuals coming from all parts of the world, including places where they will have participated in or witnessed savagery.
“It is linked to migration. As a result of full-scale migration, we are getting a lot of people.”

The price of an EV battery pack can be shaped by various factors such as raw material costs, production expenses, packaging complexities, and supply chain stability. One of the main factors is chemical composition.
Graphite is the standard material used for the anodes in most lithium-ion batteries.
However, it is the mineral composition of the cathode that usually changes. It includes lithium and other minerals such as nickel, manganese, cobalt, or iron. This specific composition is pivotal in establishing the battery’s capacity, power, safety, lifespan, cost, and overall performance.
Lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide (NCA) battery cells have an average price of $120.3 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), while lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide (NCM) has a slightly lower price point at $112.7 per kWh. Both contain significant nickel proportions, increasing the battery’s energy density and allowing for longer range.

Which Battery Dominates the EV Market?
