Commenting isn’t a popularity contest, if want popularity go to Tinder. Apparently Tinder has a sub-site where people can meet new friends, which is what I think you’re looking for.

As for bullying Woddenhead? Have you seen what he’s been up to in the past 24 hours. You’re such a biased dimb bulb. If you don’t like the site, you can always go. Nothing is stopping you and won’t be missed. It’s not as though your opinions set the world on fire.

You’re confused.
You and I don’t hold voting shares here.
You’re applying that very soft-left concept of “the stakeholder”.
That is, someone who risks nothing and contributes nothing, but wants to make consequence-free decisions by usurping the proprietor’s rights.

He’s an experienced blogger, having operated a very successful site for 15 years, attracting 279 replies over those years, and appears to have quite a following of sturdy commenters here. To any lurkers or occasional commenters who are rolling their eyes and remaining silent – not through fear of being attacked by a sequence of pixels on a screen (yawn), but because as the physical body matures, so too does the emotional intelligence (absent the off-days/weeks/years we all have, and the subjective sense of humour which maybe no-one else on the planet understands) – you are not alone.

We expect disagreements, expressions of frustration, and the clash of personalities on an open forum, but when the well-worn pattern of emotionally returning to adolescence to show the mean grrls (back then) that you too can be a top dog (four or five decades later, but ‘better late than never, huh?’) becomes the dominant theme, it pushes the whole blog into a catatonia which no-one can read or participate in.

Those who want to be competitive (go for it) COULD do so on the thread Lord Dover provided for that purpose, but they choose not to. My Nutri-Grain psych certificate (of participation) tells me they choose to compete (irrationally) on the main thread because they WANT to disrupt. They NEED to prove something.

That’s great, kiddies. Good for you. Good for effing you.

Q [sic] the predictable response.

The nicest veteran was a Navy vet who was deeply traumatised. He was on Melbourne both times – when it ran over Voyager and when lightning struck twice with the Frank E. Evans

I was told the story, from a reliable source, of one survivor of the “Voyager” , who was in his bunk, at the time of the collision. He ended up in the water.

He was posted to one of the sister ships of “Voyager” and was allocated the same bunk that he had had, on “Voyager.” He fell to pieces after that!

Speaking of the original Driller, Prince Andrew, he could move from number 8 to number 7 in the succession batting order if Chuck 3.0 pops his clogs.
There doesn’t seem to be a clamouring from an adoring public to elevate him further, even though the intensely unpopular Ginger Prince is listed to come in at 5.

One of my uncles was on the Melbourne, another was on the Voyager.
They knew each other, the one on the Melbourne was quite distressed at not finding in the water, or rescued, the other one, fearing him lost.

Turned out he wasn’t aboard – he either was ashore on a motor transport course, or he’d been posted elsewhere – it is lost in time now & it is no longer possible to ask either of them about it.

In Livorno I had to pay €1 a night tourist tax, in cash, which was just annoying, a smart landlord would just include it in the total but not my one roll tightwad.

Everything you’ve claimed has been “online”—even the laughable comment about feeling like an “ANZAC at Lone Pine”. Dickhead.

Here we go. Driller having balls means someone doesn’t lie, doesn’t blowhard, and most certainly doesn’t misrepresent their status. It also means don’t make racist comments about others and don’t criticize people’s families the disgusting, depraved way you do. it would also apply the non-bet, you accuse me of and then suggest I welshed. It’s all filed, by the way.

Call the waaaambulance, pussy. Stop alluding to doxxing.

I’m not doxxing if your comments are inconsistent with previous ones, dickhead. And stop it with the accusation of doxxing, because that’s slander that can be easily shown in court and it’s actionable.

Someone may have given you their phone number – others of us will be harder to find.

I don’t know what that means, so please explain, as I’ll add to the list of lies.

You haven’t the balls to back your mouth. STFU & let this site recover from your 36 hours of bullshit.

The way Biden spat at Doocy.
Pure dementia.
There was real anger and shock when the whole press room started yelling him.
First time it’s happened.
Why did he walk off and then come back and perform even worse ?
No wonder Anderson Cooper was doing everything but shaking his head.

That was the dementia coming out. I’ve long predicted that he will have a public meltdown that will shock America and it will be physical.
He is losing self control by the month.

Valid point, however the page would need a different setting out, I think. It would need to be a wider print margin to cut down the lines.

There’s more to Hiden’s fall from grace, even with the demnetia.

WSJ

Biden Has More Than an Age Problem. Voters Don’t See Him as Presidential.
Many voters view Biden as failing to fully embody the office of the presidency, despite his legislative and diplomatic achievements

Ignore the last part of the header as you often have to be careful with the news section of the WSJ, as lefties inhabit that part of the site. There haven’t been any legislative achievements as everything he’s done on this score has been terrible.

It does, though explain, how people just don’t see him as presidential material as he doesn’t have what it takes with or without dementia.

Yet when asked, voters often can’t name any of Biden’s accomplishments. Worse, says Thau, the swing voters he talks with often repeat conspiratorial ideas about the president’s leadership. “A component to the age thing that I hear in focus groups is that he’s not really the one in charge, that other folks in the administration or Congress are pulling the strings,” he said.

this is what you end with with a candidate who lost the election and is only in the oval office because of cheating.

Please be fair. I have seen no condemnation here at all for the cause of yesterday’s issues, which was an early morning spray of insane vitreol against me by a woman called Johanna, with Cassie as collateral damage. Johanna has ten-year form in producing these fixated and highly confected sprays at regular intervals. I don’t encourage them nor enjoy having to defend against them. I strongly object to being categorised as having an ongoing ‘stoush’ with this woman. There is no ‘stoush’. I initiate nothing. Sinclair did several times tell her to moderate her behaviour.

When her behaviour yesterday turned to clearly anti-Semitic abuse of Cassie and she was encouraged rather than sanctioned in some way by adverse commentary or lack of upticking, indeed the opposite ocurred and she was strongly endorsed, I was outraged and I still am.

I refer you to my comment to Dover yesterday towards the end of the thread outling exactly why the comments were anti-Semitic and of a different order to similar issues he suggested as comparitors. I still hold by my analysis of that very substantive difference. Johanna may be culturally illiterate enough to not comprehend exactly how historically Jew-hating her words were, but Cassie certainly does.

I don’t think Delta’s analysis is at all helpful. It blames me and Cassie for the position we hold and allows the majority of argumentative and often childish intruding and secondary comments from many others which flew around all day to become our ‘fault’. And yes, moral courage is sometimes required and from my standpoint and also Cassie’s it appeared lacking in many genial bystanders yesterday.

Good night and quite possibly goodbye. I am not sure I have much to contribute here any more. I will lurk for a while and see. The ticking is not really my issue of interest. Dover is his own man re those.

I am sorry Lizzie but I disagree. Nobody encouraged her or endorsed her. However what was very obvious was that there was some very odd upticking and downticking going on. You may also wish to note that in Qld the timing of the comments were mainly before 0700. Somebody did comment on the high number of upticks Johanna’s post had got so early. I saw no actual comment supporting her post.

Cassie has had much public support on this blog pretty much everyday since 7 Oct yet you and her decided to attack the “silence”. Read several of the comments since and you may actually notice some did not have a good reaction to that.

Personally I would like to see Dover instituting some sort of time out function where a troublemaker is sin binned for a few days. However we know that is not going to happen.

Perhaps not a good choice in the rain* in the off season, the train got cancelled and we all got told to walk to Stazione Terranova to catch a bus.

Well I heard ‘bus’ and decided to follow the crowd and the terranova fell into place.
There are these two great granite hills here but they aren’t visible from the seaside village.
I’ve stopped at a little caf for some foamy milk, there are a few old fellas inside watching the football.
Not one of them with a beverage of any kind on the table either.
About as exciting as it’s going to get.
It’s a pretty impressive coastline though, could see that from my front seat perch on the bus.
Going to wander back towards the station and see if I can get a better view of the capes.

This sort of barney is expected on low intelligence forums like The Conversation that prouds itself for exposing the follies of high academia, where I’m in my fifth or sixth reincarnation under fake names after numerous excommunications for heretical opinions.

Can anyone advise a conservative forum where reasonable responses to the ratbagery of this era are discussed. Comments on Spectator, Quillette, Quadrant, Spiked – for instance – are like sniping. Proposals never get discussed and canvassed at length because their website software platforms don’t allow extended chewing the chud of ideas. It probably requires platforms like PhP BBS where specific topics can be initiated and discussed at length, rather than blogs with chronological series of unrelated opinions, like this one.

And conversely, Bourne, I saw no actual comment disendorsing it either, particularly at first. In the spin of later comments there may have been some mildly supportive of Cassie or that related back to previous support. My recollection is that Johanna was highly chuffed by the reaction and doubled down on her initial spray. Anyway, the end result is that I am fed up with the whole idea of blogging, indeed of writing any more for any publication or blog. I just want to live my life quietly now as a private individual with my husband and family. That may be the best thing for me at least until some sour taste about it diminishes. Sunday Noticeboard (10 Feb, not paywalled)

The report about Biden squirreling away documents is fun. Somehow the special prosecutor had to find a way to not prosecute Biden for worse things than the DoJ is prosecuting Trump for. So they chose the dementia defense, and boy has that caused a first rank political mess.

We’ll see what Jill does. She does appear to be trying to keep the reins, Edith Wilson style.

How Jill Biden and Aides Control Biden (Daniel Greenfield, 10 Feb)

I still think she must have control of the dirt file Joe built up over fifty years in the system. It neatly explains why all this is happening.

I agree, one of the main reasons I post here is to ‘test and adjust’ my ideas against a rare pool of intelligent commentators. Upticks/downticks are a great rapid feedback, not everyone has time to reply in longform, and if they do, the replies can be lost downthread.

If ticks have to go, can the blog be reformatted to allow replies directly under the relevant comment, like Michael Smiths blog for example?

Is it possible to have a reply button (like Michael Smith’s blog) where you can reply directly to a comment in a thread and it and all subsequent replies stay together like a thread within a thread?
It may contain the stoushers to one part of the thread, making it easier for those not involved to by pass it.

It was one of the options in the initial setup. And yes, it does segregate the topics as it means an entire screed can be bypassed.

Clennell repeated the Labor talking point that the SFLs have no hope of winning the March 2 Dunkley by-election in Frankston, Victoria, even though internal Labor polling shows a 4% swing against the government.

But here’s the thing: the Liars internal polling is identical to recent polling by the Ponds Institute that the Liars are up 52-48% 2PP.

In my recent experience of Australian politics (and Australians’ reluctance to talk to pollsters), 58-48% means the parties are dead-set tied.

In todays ZeroHedge:

US Intelligence Officials Say Israel Not Close To Defeating Hamas

Israel has not even come close to defeating Hamas through its military offensive on the Gaza Strip, US intelligence officials have said. According to the New York Times, the officials told members of Congress earlier this week that while Israel had managed to degrade Hamas’s fighting capabilities, they were still very far from crushing the organization itself.

Officials also said that given the nature of Hamas’ military wing as a fundamentally “guerilla” force, defeating the group might not even be possible and that simply weakening their combat strength might be a more realistic goal.

To see innocent critters enjoying themselves is a blast.

This is what we love about the natural world. Husband has built a bird feeder on fence directly outside our bedroom doors (glass panes) so that we can watch the red dumped parrots eating the seed in the morning. Of course, it has attracted others – including the magpie family & lately “top knots” (gorget their official name). We have watched the Maggies rear their 2 infants. I am sure that it is their first batch because we have watched them feeding their “babies” for far too long. Husband gets very annoyed as they diligently put the seed in the mouths of these big “babies”. Finally, we have noticed in the last week that the parents are beginning to harass the children.

Our big joy is also large birdbath which we can see from the windows on two sides of the house. Some of the little birds are “clean freaks” & have protracted baths. But it attracts a huge range of birds. A great joy.

Less of a joy are the raids of the crows and others on not only our small household vineyard, but on the grapevine on the pathway trellis from our gate to the house. Similarly the fruit trees which are a nuisance to net successfully.

Still – there are benefits and drawbacks to living in the natural world.

The output from the models will move towards infinity.
The financial value of the models will move towards zero.

Yep. We already see this with the climate models, they are based on garbage and produce garbage. The current AIs have all been trained on curated lefty stuff which is also garbage, so they will produce more of it as soon as they have to extrapolate.

It all might work better if real world material was used for the training process and sourcing, but the Left won’t allow that. They’re also getting increasingly frustrated that their fantasy world isn’t being believed by the proles.

Study: Psychological Interventions Do Not Work on Climate Skeptics (9 Feb)

Climate change denial remains difficult to challenge despite the scientific consensus and availability of information. … “Top-down change might need to be prioritised to achieve the emissions reduction necessary to stay within safe planetary limits for human civilisation.

Commentary: “The Tone Against Alleged ‘Climate Change Deniers’ Is Becoming Harsher” (10 Feb)

The tone against alleged “climate change deniers” is becoming harsher. Some television programs are now trying to change viewers’ mindsets by using language to educate them – and to convince all skeptics and doubters of the threat posed by the change in temperatures, now referred to as global warming.

This top-down, patronizing form of education does a disservice to the actual goal – namely to encourage a more conscious lifestyle and participation in community change.

As usual communism is the answer and as usual the proponents want to shut up the dissidents’ inconvenient voices. Unfortunately we’re going have AIs doing that for them very soon.

Two things.
1. On a small screen with indented replies, it becomes squashed against the right margin and unreadable;
2. The sequential form has it’s advantages as it is less likely to miss something if you pick up where you left off and scroll through.

I was under the impression that Dover removed the up/down ticks was due to site performance not the gaming of them, or otherwise.

We have to remember that there’s a fair bit of time required to monitor/admin a blog like this which needs to occur day after day after day.

Although it’s not quite the same, I run a YouTube channel of some size now and the daily grind of keeping on top of it (including checking and moderating comments) is quite time consuming and frankly on some days you just need to take a break from it all.

I’m not an expert on the capabilities of WordPress but I would suggest to Dover, if he can be bothered, that he post a new thread on his thoughts on the site and what he can do (or not) as posting in the OT thread it would get lost.

Good Lord. Herald Sun:

A plum new public sector role worth up to $533,000 a year has been handed to the bureaucrat who was in charge of Victoria’s dumped Commonwealth Games.

Jeroen Weimar, who shot to public prominence when he was made the state’s Covid-19 response commander in 2020, will now head the Government’s Housing Statement implementation group in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The Housing Statement is the Government’s most significant policy released this term and includes plans for 800,000 new homes to be built over a decade by streamlining planning and encouraging density in suburbs with good existing services.

In a letter to DPC staff, leaked to the Sunday Herald Sun, secretary Jeremi Moule said the six-month position was established for Mr Weimar after discussions with “key colleagues”.

“Having considered the necessary skills, experience, seniority and availability for the short term role, I am pleased to announce that Jeroen Weimar has agreed to take on the function,” Mr Moule wrote to colleagues.

“Jeroen is known to many people in DPC and across government and brings extensive experience in leading and delivering a range of complex projects.”

The Sunday Herald Sun asked the Allan Government how much Mr Weimar would be paid but did not get an answer; but was pointed to deputy secretary salary bands that can vary between $401,018 and $533,431.

This means an effective pay cut for the trusted bureaucrat, whose 2026 Games chief role commanded a salary of up to $620,000 a year.

Some public servants were surprised by the housing announcement; one questioned Mr Weimar’s experience in the sector and why no formal process advertised the role.

“It was the same for the Commonwealth Games role,” they said.

But a DPC spokesperson said the appointment “reinforces the Victorian Government’s commitment to boost housing supply and affordability in Victoria”.

“As an experienced senior executive leading complex projects, Mr Weimar will work across government to build on the important work already underway.”

Mr Weimar is viewed as a good communicator with a cool head by senior members of the government, including Premier Jacinta Allan.

He was brought in to lead the Covid-19 response in August, 2020, as the government grappled with testing and contact tracing problems and following the hotel quarantine disaster.

Ms Allan worked with Mr Weimar when he led Public Transport Victoria, as well as when she was Minister for Commonwealth Games Delivery.

Mr Weimar’s LinkedIn profile notes he set up the Games organising committee and built the “implementation plan and robust budget for the delivery of the 2026 Commonwealth Games”.

It says he later ensured the “swift and efficient close down of the organisation” when the government tore up its own contract with the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The decision, which former premier Daniel Andrews blamed on budget blowouts of up to $4bn, sparked an international furore last year and wasted up to $600m of taxpayer money.

The Saturday Herald Sun revealed that a scathing Auditor-General report into the debacle is set to be released soon and will take aim at poor planning and advice provided to the government.

Shadow minister for housing affordability Evan Mulholland said: “It says a lot about the judgment of Jacinta Allan that shehas turned to the bureaucrat who oversaw the world’s longest lockdowns and the $600 million Commonwealth Games debacle.

“His appointment to a $533,000 role is another example of giving a plum job for a Labor favourite.”

A parasite of the highest order.

Jews continue to pay price of cowardly double standards

This past week, NSW state Greens MP Jenny Leong showed that just when you think we’ve seen the worst of the Greens, they turn it up to 11. Picture: Supplied

I finished a book last week that took me a lot longer to read than expected. A Brilliant Life is the story of a woman called Mira, who as a teenager, along with her family, was betrayed by neighbours and sent to Plaszow, a Nazi death camp in German-occupied Poland. Plaszow was little known to most until made famous as one of the settings of the movie Schindler’s List.

Mira’s father was shot dead in front of his family, in front of their home, as his wife and children were dragged away. Her mother was murdered the day they arrived at the camp, in one of the notorious Nazi “selections”.

Mira survived the Holocaust, against the most unbelievable odds. She married, moved to Melbourne, and raised a large and loving family. She and her husband grew a business that employed dozens of Australians from all backgrounds during its lifetime.

A Brilliant Life does indeed tell such a story because as much as it bears witness to the worst of humanity, it celebrates and honours the best. The many good people, who counted the cost of risking their own lives to save Mira’s, and did it anyway.

Why did it take me so long to read? It felt too close to home.

If, like me, you ever wondered how the Holocaust could have happened, then look no further than today. Look no further than Melbourne, where the Star of David is again being used to intimidate and threaten. Where Jewish business owners are arriving at work to find anti-Semitic graffiti strewn across doors and windows.

Look no further than Sydney, where the same extremist preachers, from their pulpits, call for Jews to be murdered. For the state of Israel to be wiped out, yes, from the river to the sea.

And this is all happening in an environment free of consequences. There’s been the odd stern motherhood statement that half-heartedly tut-tuts the culprits and says there’s no room for hate in Australia. Kind of like the parent who, not moving their gaze from the TV, tells their child not to annoy her brother.

Are we supposed to be reassured that those with the responsibility of curbing this cancer are capable, let alone interested? NSW police said nobody chanted “gas the Jews” when a feral mob swarmed the Opera House on the night of Monday, October 9, even though others claim to have heard it, and clearly. This mob was there celebrating Hamas and its orgy of rape, torture murder and violence. They set fire to the Israeli flag, set off flares and chanted “f..k the Jews” and “where’s the Jews?”. Clearly, they just wanted to catch up for a chat over a cleansing ale about the two-state solution.

It’s this bracket creep of normalisation. It’s the seeming unwillingness to draw a line in the sand and say, no.

This past week, NSW state Greens MP Jenny Leong showed that just when you think we’ve seen the worst of the Greens, a hapless mob of university-grade anarchists who never grew up, they turn it up to 11.

At a Palestinian Justice Movement event in December, Leong told the crowd the “Jewish lobby and the Zionist lobby” are infiltrating the community, that “their tentacles reach into the areas that try and influence power”. The whole speech is extraordinary and not in a good way. It is the language of days gone by. It’s now, thankfully, easy to find online and I urge you to watch for yourselves.

Leong has apologised. Sorry for what she said, or for being exposed? You decide. If a bottle of wine can rob a premier of his career, surely anti-Semitic speech should spell the end of a local MP. It’s the Greens, though, so no doubt she’ll be promoted.

Stop taking us for fools. Stop avoiding the hard decisions and conversations. It is beyond me to understand why the Prime Minister and the premiers have clothed themselves in reticence. Their words masquerade as strength, but carry no weight in a weakness that can only be linked to electoral concerns.

More broadly, the political left, tenured academics, union lackies and those leading this anti-Israel campaign seem afflicted with an obsession with the state of Israel. The kind described by American journalist Caroline Glick. Glick single-handedly, surgically and intellectually eviscerated the Danish ambassador in December when he suggested Europe should apply a double standard to Israel when judging its actions, compared with other Middle Eastern nations. The clip is easy enough to find. Watch it, it’s a tour de force.

The double standard she describes is what we are seeing in Australia. Let me prove it.

When 33-year-old Roya Heshmati was sentenced in Iran to 74 brutal lashes for a hijab violation, where were the protests and marches on parliament? Between December 22 and January 21, 90 people linked to last year’s freedom protests were executed by Tehran. Ninety people, mostly young. Hanged on cranes before baying crowds. Where are the Greens? Where are Unionists for Palestine? Where are the young, keffiyeh-wearing actors from the Sydney Theatre Company? The federal government said it was deeply concerned, flogging Tehran with a soggy tissue.

This obsession is almost like a person who can’t accept a relationship is over, in the sense that there is no counter to the truth that Israel, while imperfect like all democracies, has a parliament in which Jews and Arabs sit side by side. In Israel, Christians, Jews, Druze, Muslims, atheists, gay, straight, you name it, live in harmony. Their only common enemy is the one that wants to wipe them out. Let me put it bluntly: in the Middle East nobody is leaving Israel to claim asylum in Tehran, Gaza or Damascus.

Is it obsession or blind hatred? Or is one caused by the other.

How did the Holocaust happen? Good people stood by and did nothing. Said nothing. Weak leaders tried to bargain with evil and win. For a country that had zero problem locking us all up and controlling crowds during Covid, our leaders seem remarkably disinclined to deal with this pressing threat in a meaningful way. It’s time they did.
