Daniel Day-Lewis, while preparing for “Last of the Mohicans”, apparently carried his movie rifle everywhere with him, including to restaurants, just to get used to handling it so it became a natural accessory, as it would to someone of the period.

I watched “Forgotten Battle” last night, a Belgian WWII movie.

One of the characters, a British soldier, starts off carrying his No4 Lee Enfield, which was the correct rifle.

But then during a couple of battle scenes, he and everyone else is firing No1s, which at that stage of the war were only being used by Australians, not British and Canadians in Holland.

Of course, as he gets back to the staging area after the battle, he has a No4 over his shoulder again.

It totally ruined the movie for me. Actually it was a pretty crap movie anyway.

Breaking news, Labor is going to oppose a policy that was the only reason John Kerry was made Biden’s Climate Change envoy.

No, Labor will stick with the very conservative Policy it’s had for 40 +years.
Why would it change, there’s no votes in it for Labor?

Solar Panels are Nuclear Energy.

The fun thing is they’re actually fossil fuels.

Recently there’s been an extreme shortage of magnesium. That’s because Mg uses a shedload of energy to produce, and China has mostly monopolized the production of it. Because coal. Which they’ve recently run out of. So nice Mr Xi has told Mg producers and Al producers to stop producing their metals because not enough electricity blacking out holy CCP members.

Forget the semiconductor, magnesium could be the car industry’s next big hurdle (21 Oct)

According to Mining.com, global carmakers are facing another potential crisis as a result of this shortage, which is being indirectly caused by China’s electricity crisis. China currently supplies around 85% of the world’s magnesium, and the power woes have reportedly forced authorities to shut down 35 of the country’s 50 magnesium smelters until the end of 2021.

Which is where solar panels come in, since they’re made from silicon, and silicon production requires lots and lots of carbon and electricity, both for primary production and purification by zone refining. And guess who produces most semiconductor-grade silicon?

It’ll be fun when suddenly all those cheap Chinese solar panels are less cheap, and not actually available because their manufacturers aren’t allowed to use the proles’ electricity.

I very much doubt any nuclear power plant will be built in a rural electorate. Don’t you need a vast and reliable source of water?

Cowper is a rural electorate; and has plenty of water – sea water can be used for this purpose. Rural electorates are not necessarily inland.

so Labor will have a field day if it ever becomes Coalition Policy.

The solution to this is to have a referendum on nuclear power. If it succeeds, it will tear the ALP apart the same way that Brexit tore the Labour party apart in the UK.

This can also solve the NIMBY problem, by stating up front that it won’t be built in a location that votes “no” in the referendum.

Isn’t he the edjumacated prefesser who said the coal face of Qld’s economy is in & around Brisbane?

His methodology was:
1/. Qld’s state income is mostly in two taxes, payroll tax & stamp duty.
2/. Payroll tax is mostly paid from offices located in Brisbane CBD.
3/. Stamp duty is mostly collected from people in Brisbane & environs selling houses to each other.

Ergo, the rest of the state contributes nothing, isn’t relevant economically, & should not be “subsidised”

Armourer, 24, on Alec Baldwin film ‘wasn’t sure’ if she was ready for movie set roles

Hannah Gutierrez had laid the gun which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a cart outside movie set
By Nick Allen 23 October 2021 • 7:47pm

The 24-year-old head armourer on the set where Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer had suggested she was “nervous” about taking on such roles months before starting on the tragedy-stricken film.

Mr Baldwin was unwittingly handed a gun loaded with live ammunition on the set of Rust, a Western film which was beset by chaos as crew members walked off over safety concerns.

The film’s crew reportedly had a series of wide-ranging complaints about working on set, including allegations of unsuitable working arrangements.

There were reports of up to three other previous accidental discharges of prop weapons on the set. One departing crew member called it “super unsafe”.

Mr Baldwin fired a live bullet, leading to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injuring director Joel Souza, 48.

Cafe Bruce news.

I don’t like his chances but currawong with recently broken leg is hanging in there. It’s a clean break, so his leg dangles down without getting into the way too much. He’s had to learn to eat mince differently, since he used to hold a piece of it with one foot and pluck bits off. That’s now not possible since his only working foot he has to stand on. So he’s now worked out that if he goes onto the roof he can dismantle and eat his lump of mince on the convenient table the roof is.

Then just now I hear “Wuh!” from outside front door. Go check. A cockie. So he/she gets some bread. I suspect random brain nexii fired in order for the cockie to say that. Henceforth I’m now going to have a cockie at my front door saying “Wuh!” loudly each evening.

The fun incident of the day was when next door landlord arrived from Sydney. He’s between tenants. Salt of the earth sort of guy who has a fruit-growing business. So I waves at him and says “hi! welcome back!” (It’s been several years.) He says I see you still have your birds! Hmmm. I turns around and on the roof of my car right behind me is alpha male extrovert currawong. ‘Yep’, I say. Then I hand extrovert currawong some mince which he then messily spreads all over my car roof.

Sadly, they will have gone to bed hungry tonight, I muse, but Hairy says they’re birds and can look after themselves. He’s right of course. They shouldn’t be dependent on us. Talking about dependence on us, Attapuss is hyperexcited that we are home and is ready for his dinner. I give him some chicken Fussy Cat. Feline food. As if chickens aren’t birds too. It’s all too complicated sometimes. Anyway, I am glad your lame Currawong is not yet Crow food. You do see a few one-legged birds around, so maybe all is not lost for him.

Lizzie – I don’t know what is the story with Fussy Cat. The stuff is totally addictive.

My mum’s cats must have Blue Fussy Cat, although they will reluctantly also eat Black Fussy Cat. One day last year I was buying groceries for my mum at her local Coles, and elderly lady behind me loaded the conveyer belt thingie with an impressive array of pet food including Coles mince. And Red Fussy Cat. I had a pile of Blue Fussy Cat. So we got chatting. Turned out she was buying the mince for currawongs and the Red Fussy Cat for her cat. It was one of the more entertaining checkout conversations I’ve had.

Discussion upthread…hardware modified for a completely different performance setting is the conjecture to explain the “misfires”.

At this point the best guess at what actually happened with the prior “misfires” is witness reports from others who were on the set.

From reading them (as regurgitated by entertainment reporterettes) is they sound like either under-loads. Possibly negligent discharges, however a fair dinkum ND on a movie set should (should) be a real big deal & witness reports should be over-the-top. (Mine would be if I were present when an airhead to carelessly discharge a firearm in my presence.)

Bruce, I’ve found Aldi 2-star mince and Aldi shredded cheese is a big hit at my bird cafe. I get regular visits from a fairy wren clan, pee wees, currawongs and magpies. The magpies eat from my hand, one sits on the arm of my outdoor chair just outside the sliding door waiting for the mince. The currawongs are more wary, they were stealing eggs from a chook pen somewhere in the neighbourhood and using my yard as the dining room and I encouraged them to eat their ill-gotten gains elsewhere. However, I am getting them closer, they take the mince on the doorstep with me sitting just inside the open door.

Why does the media discuss climate change policy only through the prism of what’s best in terms of internal coalition politics? That’s the way they’ll judge the outcome as well. Rarely do they discuss what is the best policy as a good global citizen.

Revealing but unsurprising comment from Baz. His main concern is appearing to be a “good global citizen”. Never mind the fact that the stupid policy will have zero effect on the weather. Never mind the fact that the policy will benefit the Chicoms. But most of all, never mind the fact that the policy is against the national interest. Skier – My old dad gives his house magpies shredded cheese too. He had to wire closed the cat flap on his back door though, because they’d learned to sneak in, trot around to the kitchen, then eat his tomatoes which he’d leave ripening on the sideboard.

Until recently for many years he had a satin bower bird male, with a bower, within easy viewing from his kitchen window. I’ve been very envious! He’s not really a wildlife guy, but has warmed to such things over the years.

Don’t think you got the sense of the society DrB, which is a grass-roots assembly based on respect for ability. Doesn’t matter what the ability is, so long as it is done with seriousness and intent. So a person who builds perfect scale models of ships would be as well regarded as a nuclear physicist who produces devastating weapons. Neither need to do it to live, since there’s an abundance of anything they might want. Thanks Rbaz, can I just say I like his music, but it’s just that. Also, I’ve seen him twice, once in the US and another time in Melbourne. He does a good job of giving it all.

You know, the reason that Australian governments exist.

This good global citizen sadly doesn’t live off any global money but the taxes of us non-global citizens. I’m getting to the point where anyone who declare themselves as global citizens should be exiled to this magical global country they call home.

JC – I want to do a Steve Jones and gift myself as many of his guitars as is possible without being arrested and thrown in gaol.

If he’s a true collectivist, he won’t mind the oppressed helping themselves. 🙂

Ten per cent of 5.5M is not a small number. And that will grow as booster req. kick in; I reckon they will loss 10% of the 80-90% they coerced. Another 10% by the second. And you wait for the adverse effects when they become impossible to ignore.

A single quarantine with a nominal capacity of 1000, even stacked up four to a room, will not go too far there. Either TaliDan is planning a major construction program, or he has a problem.

Speaking of construction, has Gunner been around recently?

Geoblocked. Bummer. Comes up for $1.99, but I’m on VPN via a US server (usually quicker & more reliable than the local Oz one).

If can send it to me as a gift, I can afford to pay you, but I imagine that’s blocked too.

When the chatter about the carbon tax and sequestration and sinks with farms being set aside for these off-sets began back in about 2009 I remember going to meetings where farmers turned up salivating at the prospect of inner city green bureaucrats and pollies giving them wads of cash NOT to farm.

Never get between a farmer and government money not to work; and that’s what scomo has given the nats. Matt kean too. Farmers don’t care; they’re effectively self sufficient; and usually well armed. What do they care if the cities lose power and chaos ensues with hoards of green fucktards bereft of phone and internet connections running amuck until their caffeine highs run out. Then they’ll begin eating grass and pretending it’s smashed avocado.

I’ll give it 6 months before inner Sydney looks like downtown Chicago. Western Sydney is already run by the muzzies and they don’t give a fuck about power. And melbournistan is already cooked but doesn’t know it. Anyway it’s all hypothetical; according to Molan the chunks, thanks to biden, will run the place within a year or two. They can’t afford to wait until 24 when Trump may get back in.

Indeed. A UN citizenship program should be started, with UN citizens (and staff) being taxed by the UN to fund its operations. Tax Cassidy’s Australian taxpayer funded retirement at a level adequate to fund the UN’s operations, and watch him lose enthusiasm.

A few weeks back I signed up to the Covid Medical Network newsletter. In today’s edition was a report by an engineer with a link to an anonymous group of health professionals – mostly nurses – all reporting on the numbers and types of adverse reactions to the jabs they’ve been dealing with. The group was started in September and has 56K subscribers. The testimonies are unbelievable.

America is a truly incredible place. Nothing remotely like that country exists in the universe.
I watched a doco on Prime (by the way, Amazon Prime has really improved these days). It was about the beginning and subsequent fall of WeWork. How to describe WeWork? I dunno, I have to look to see if someone can better describe the business WeWork was in . They tried to sell it as a technology company in order to gain the multiples and for a time they succeeded. But is also wasn’t a real estate firm either.

WeWork is an American commercial real estate company that provides flexible shared workspaces for technology startups and services for other enterprises. WeWork designs and builds physical and virtual shared spaces and office services for entrepreneurs and companies

The founder and his wife were absolute nutballs. The business went from having a valuation of US$47 billion to being bust in 6 weeks. The founder walked away with around US$1.7 billion. It’s worth watching to see how a huckster operates. It surprises me he got away with it for a long time. The way he expressed himself had huckster painted all over it.

I agree, Dover, but a lot of the 10% will have had to submit by then.
Avoiding the first round of jabs is going to get very hard, very quickly.

As you say, the Battle of the Boosters is about to begin.

I think it was Bruce who spoke of getting an earworm from someones post a while back.
I’ve had one for two weeks now.
Started off with Greigs “Peer Gynt Suite” – the ‘Morning’ track.
However, it’s coming through with no violins. No woodwinds. No harp.
Just the bagpipes.

In any sane world, they’d be condemned to a disney style theme park which we could happily visit, point and laugh.

Isn’t that what fillums are for?

They don’t think they’re living real, meaningful lives?

Bangladesh must be the biggest shit hole on earth.

Currently they are purging Hindu’s in the west of the country.
A couple of years back they went east into Burma & purged Buddhists and then turned tail when they experienced pushback.
Apart from migrating to England & joining the Labour party, I’m not sure what the country does.

  1. Here is my first reply to your comment yesterday morning: I wasn’t referring to “your comment yesterday morning”. You made…

  2. Labour is not going well… https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GdBinRcXUAABgnR.jpg Farage has won a few more council seats in by-elections in the last couple…
