Wow. I was pointed towards a Ukraine online fundraiser that for some reason included a story by a very elderly Australian cossack who had escaped from Stalin’s clutches when his family were one of the thousands handed to Stalin by the communist State Department and Foreign Office after Yalta.
He was a very young kid. His not much older brother pulled him away from a steppe railway station when it became obvious that their parents had been murdered.
A year’s worth of hardships, beatings, starvation and slavery found them in Roumania where a volunteer Brit DP organisation smuggled them into Greece.
They fell into the hands of ELAS who, after using them as slaves, wanted to send them back to Stalin.
They were rescued by an actual non-communist MI6 agent who convinced a couple of DPs to claim them as their children and got them onto a ship to Egypt.
Long processes saw them eventually come to Oz.
The old fella was incredibly balanced and matter of fact about the whole episode, except for his contempt for the Brits.
So many apparently every day people have incredible backgrounds. A book is needed.
Salv “Is that Norm Needham & Ian Wright’s Landcruiser raft? Abandoned?”, could be but I don’t know. I wasn’t aware of their trip until the following year. That scene was at the Wenlock River. It was a great trip, after drowning my Landcruiser in the Jardine, I had to wait on the bank for a few days till it dried out and also changed all the oils, engine, gearbox, transfer case and diffs. I was pretty well prepared.

Yep that was the other option but I think Putin wanted the whole country. I don’t understand their strategy of attacking on such a wide front. The clown is outsmarting the generals.

Yes the House does elect the speaker, but in the Democrats the position us based strictly on seniority.

Upon closer look that is not Norm Needham’s raft.
Similar, but definitely not the same raft: The weldmesh pattern enclosing the floats is so different that it cannot be the same contraption. Besides which, he did say he brought his home & later given it to someone else, the ultimate fate being unknown. Movie footage does show the floats on the roof of each Toyota both as he travels south & as he arrives home.
Interesting that someone came up with a similar contraption that same year.
(side note: He reports the Wenlock was two metres deep when he crossed – clearly you drove across – except for that Landrover that .. well… acted like a Landrover)

Smart meters: handing over control of electricity usage
Cohenite, you are one seriously funny dude.
it was fairly obvious from the start that the aim was to tie up large portions of the ukrainian military away from Donbas. A limited front in the Donbas would have been a recipe for a prolonged conflict and quite frankly a bad strategy.
Smart meters might be a harder sell after Covid. Shades of “… out of my cold dead hands.”
I like the Yellowstone way; a trip to the train station.
Why would you record this? Not likely to be well received by their opposites in the immediate area.
Hasn’t worked. Bogged down. Violates strategy 101. If you want to capture an area go in hard and fast with a high concentration of power. The only obvious thing about Russian strategy is that it has not been working.
They offered to me a Smart meter but the box is made out of wood and asbestos, shame.
Unless it’s not your objective. If Russia wanted Kiev and deployed max force hard and fast to take it, there would tens of thousands of civilian casualties. Already. With propaganda all over the net. There isn’t. THAT might be an objective, in fact a primary one.
They only read the meter about once or twice a year here, the rest is guesswork. Still charge for the meter reading fee in every bill though. At least they would be stopping with all that if it’s electronic smart technology. Surely there could be no charge for it afterwards.
One thing i have been wondering about is that the Russians now have control of most of the Ukraines power sources.
I would have thought switching off your opponents power would be a high priority.
Or do they have shared power with Poland?
This is about Donbas, not Kiev. Civilian casualties are already a big problem for Russia, as if invading a country isn’t bad enough. So they’ve failed on that front too.
Kim Il Carr gets the boot. How much has he cost the country?
Any area.
See what happens if you surrender to them.
No doubt social media has raised the difficulty of waging war.
You keep changing your tune. First it was about taking Ukraine, now it’s just the Donbas. Get your story straight.
Civilian casualties in this war so far from what I can put together are being largely propagated by Ukraine NOT allowing civilians out of combat zones. Particularly in Mariupol where they are being used as human shields by the Azov Brigade. Most I’m seeing of Russian areas captured are civilians receiving assistance.
The Ukraianians , EU, NATO and US didn’t give a flying fk about the Ukraine regime and their nazi armies shelling and killing ethnic Russian civilians for 8 years. In fact the west cheered them on and sent support for the slaughter. They waged an intense propaganda war too which clowns have swallowed.
No to long back the US invaded the ME and completely fkd it. But that’s ok JohnH because allies. Shove your propagandist bs.

It started when I was looking to put related Ukraine & Covid news together.
Plenty of others have, so probably worth digging them up and looking for the bits they’re missing (they are missing key bits), while you can.
Prolly Zulu then.
Makka, the outright avoidance or prevention of non-military casualties is not a workable primary objective for a combatant (for anyone, let alone Russia), as the only practical way to achieve it is to not go into someone else’s territory and try to take things off them.
If the Russians are pulling their punches to the extent your line of argument alleges (notwithstanding the experiences of the civil populations of Karkohv, Kerson, Mariupol- Whether they’re all Nazis who deserve everything they get, or not- and Kiev’s outskirt settlements under Russian bombardment and ground assault thus far), then they are doomed to fail because they cannot enter any populated area that offers even token resistance, for fear of hurting a single hair on a brother Slav’s head.
Good military planning acknowledges the risk of non-combatant casualties and collateral damage, and attempts to minimise it, but no military force in human history has managed to achieve its objectives without impacting their opponents’ non-military population in some way. By accident or design.
..
You are very emotional.
Ha! that was funning Salv.
No, but you’re a dickhead.
Ho hum.
Someone is overcompensating a bit. The production values are there and all the angles are correct but there is still something uncanny valley going on. It is big though.
Gonzalo Lira explains it perfectly in this fascinating presentation which is quite long but so interesting I couldn’t stop watching.
Why The Western Elites Are Foolish and Amoral
I didn’t change my tune. My point was in reference to Zipster’s idea about Donbas being the target. Invading a city requires an entirely different strategy that is a street by street tactics. I’m not reading the rest of your response because you’ve verballed me.
The Ukes’ policy of handing out assorted weaponry to the civilian population has been gold for the Russians.
They no longer need to go ‘let’s leave that high-rise apartment block alone’, because they will justifiably assume that the joint’s full of AK-waving locals ready to take (poorly-aimed) pot shots at them, and HE the Christ out of it.
The civvies can’t complain, and neither can anyone else.
Who wrote that Arky? The verbalist? Obviously doesn’t have a memory because I have repeatedly condemned Western military adventurism. Some people seem to find it difficult to comprehend that other people are capable of recognising that all sides can be bad.
Not doomed at all. Although not entirely successfully, the Russians are deploying precision type guided weapons to reduce the UAF. They are not standing off and flattening city after city with Armour and artillery barrages. They are choking off major centres like Kiev and Kharkhov, taking control of all transport links in and out.
Vlad Bae must win his Holy War against the Ukie-Nazis and their WEF Pizza-Lizard masters.
And be seen to win it convincingly, hold the moral, ethical and spiritual high ground as he does so.
Or some folks here will be very upset…
That’s a nice excuse. But ‘choking off’ a centre is not to occupy it and put an end to any questions about who is controlling what. Especially when you do not its hinterland and all its approaches, from where relief or counterattacks may come. That speaks to this former Soldier of an incompletely-executed plan, undergoing desperate attempts to salvage it from prior setbacks.
Also, 2 weeks ago, Kharkhov’s outskirts were being bombarded. And still are.
Ah, look.
There’s a couple of things about Vlad you need to know.
The best he will get over time are the Donbas and southern territories. I suspect he’ll get the boot in the medium term. He’s basically crushed the Russian economy which will devastate millions.
And the clowns will rejoice because big bad Vlad and evil Wussia will be conquered by the righteous EU/NATO/US cabal – we will happily ever after because we just know how much the freedom loving “west” care about the little bloke.
Occupation isn’t an ultimate objective IMO. Choking off these cities during “negotiations” just might be.
I doubt Vlad runs his geopolitical strategy past the grunts.
Many seem to be forgetting that there are factors that led up to this conflict that date back tot he late 90’s…
1. Expansion of NATO beyond what was agreed
2. coup led by the U.S. in 2014 to remove a fairly elected leader of Ukraine who was pro Russia in favour of a U.S. puppet.
3. The call to include Ukraine into NATO would allow the U.S. to place nuclear weapons in Ukraine, far too close to Moscow to be not considered a threat by the Russians. (Cuban Missile Crisis anyone?)
4. With a weak U.S. administration and a weak NATO in general, this was a necessary self-defensive action by Putin.
All of the information is there, this can hardly be considered a surprise…
Also, the sanctions will lead to an economic alliance between Russia and China, who, between the two of them, supply almost all critical export goods to Europe and Asia…
The west has no cards to play against Russia… We require their exports, they know this.
I personally couldn’t care less about what happens in Ukraine, however, It is obvious to anyone who looks objectively and does some basic research that this is a necessary action by Russia to protect itself from Western bullying….
About as surprising as the untimely death of the Ox*.
That is, not at all.
*Note well, the White Levi’s Jacket. 🙂
I’m pretty sure someone will be having words with the manager.
Only if the beseiging effort is sufficiently impregnable to force the Ukrainian government to sue for peace. And all evidence seems to suggest that not a single effort in Kiev or any other surrounded or fought-over city thus far is sufficient to break the defending government’s and peoples’s will to fight.
If the Kerson-Mariupol-Donetsk-Luhansk axis has been effectively abandoned in favour of Kharkov, Kiev and reinforcing Odessa against any attempted amphibious assault, then the fight will continue until the invaders or defenders run out of blood and treasure. And all evidence that has appeared thus far suggests that the Russians’ rear area security and lines of communication into Belarus and Russia need to be strengthened and stabilised if they want to be able to force the issue.
Being able as an individual Ukrainian territorial to casually wander up and RPG an enemy truck or AFV effectively unchallenged is one heck of a slap in the face to an apparently superior invading military force. And a terrible risk to take when your fighting forces are so far inland.
..
Righto. So we’re the evil empire now.
You’d better pack you bags and head off to Moscow or Beijing then, eh? Get on the right side of things.
Tripe.
Russia is almost self sufficient, since they reestablished their offshored heavy industries, and he has massive support both in Russia and Eastern and Southern Ukraine.
Ukraine has missed it’s chance to negotiate peace.
Think about how all our governments have treated us the last 2 years and tell me yourself…
I may not know what Vlad Bae is thinking, but I know what actions on the ground look like.
Why don’t you head baci to New Zealand?
Your village must be missing it’s idiot by now.
Vlad Bae’s boosters were saying that about the Crimea in 2014, and when he rolled his forces into Georgia in 2008 before that.

I am not sure where you get this idea the aim was to capture an area? the aim was stated up front to destroy the ukrainian armed forces and in particular the nazi battalions. The main azov battalion is being exterminated as we speak. The ukrainian armed forces are no longer any form of cohesive force. The russian were prepared to fight a war of attrition, which is where we are currently. This is not something the ukrainians can win, no amount of western nlaws or mpads will save them.
But enough about the joys of the Cat’s Sunday Night Stoushes … 😕

Dave Hughes on Skah, looking like he’s just shot up again.
It is in itself quite interesting that the Russians have again limited access to Soviet era records.
I have no illusions about the USSR whatsoever. In fact many of the illnesses we are experiencing now seem to be a re run of those bad old days- compliant media, censorship, being penalized for saying what you think, losing your job for wrong think.
Detention without trial in the US, rigging elections
A glorified punitive raid on a sovereign nation that has suddenly found itself the recipients of aid up to, but just short of NATO troops marching in? If breaking Ukraine’s military truly was the plan, the invasion efforts out of Belarus would have been better aimed at capturing Lvov and cutting off the Polish and Moldovan border regions than Kharkov and Kiev.
And sending forth a whole deployable army, air force and the entire Black Sea Fleet to eradicate single battalion of an thousand or so alleged neo-Nazis is a bit laughable. No matter how poorly one thinks of Ukraine.
30 days in and the statement The ukrainian armed forces are no longer any form of cohesive force seems to be an optimistic statement at best…
I haven’t been to Russia but it certainly interests me. The US has turned out to be a big disappointment and now it is despicable.
Most Russians are quite stoic about this, like it’s hardly the first time they have been through worst hardships.

Florida and Texas are as much the “West” as Melbourne or Toronto.
Florida and Texas are still under control of DC.
Like a magician keeping his illusions closely-guarded.
Post-Soviet Russia and China alike have found such assymetrical tactics far too useful to their foreign policies for so long to permit their targets’ academics and information/intelligence/influence warfare experts to learn A) just how badly we’ve been duped and by whom over the years, B) a blueprint for how it is done and C) how to develop effective counter-tactics from the information gleaned from outcomes A) and B).

From an interview with Colonel of the Russian Guard Alexander Denisov
Military review
He has just joined the ranks of “Old Men who Look Like Lezzos”.
aside from the odd pictures of tank ambushes, there are no reports of any significant gains by ukrainian forces anywhere. On the other hand russians are making slow and steady gains. Ukes have no ability to rescue the 14000 forces that were trapped in mariupol. No one is coming to rescue the forces caught up near donetsk or luhansk either.
I don’t think there is any intention of taking Odessa, I have been there it’s basically one large historical museum, it would be a great pity to have to invade it. The russians would understand what a cultural loss it would be.
One reason I want to go to Russia is see if what the culture is like.
I find culture in the US, which has been exported here, to be obscene, sneering, world weary, cynical and very nasty. Certainly designed to give youngsters a gloomy view on life. Cultural marxism.
Even in China, I deeply dislike the CCP but I respect them, I found their TV (eg CCTV) a much more pleasant viewing experience than watching the muck served up here. Certainly preferred CCTV to the BBC.
OK, so Russian troops have never encountered opponents who ‘unsportingly’ use built-up areas to complicate counter-battery fire.
Or Grigs’ quoted source is putting it on a bit for his Russian domestic audience, repeated verbatim by the ‘Military Review…’
Less Nuffing out you, please Grigs. You don’t believe well enough in the Cause to shill effectively for Vlad Bae.

Paging the Liberal Party! Paging the Liberal Party!
What are you lookin’ at?
Similar to politicians, I’m sure they get special privileges as they travel the world and bring in tax revenue for each respective government.
I wouldn’t judge the US based on what the media claims as popular culture nor would I accept the same about Australia.
As frustrating as things are the worst thing you could do is alienate allies within the US.
Brothers, sisters, we don’t need that leather boot stomping on a human face (forevah) thang … 😕
just how badly we’ve been duped
I don’t think there has been much duping, Bernie Sanders may be the last person alive that communists ever managed to dupe.
There was however money, rivers of money….
Which is, of course, the first question at every Collingwood Footy Club trivia night.
Rex Anger:
Had they listened to me, sigh, and just gone for the Dnieper River option, they would have been fine. (And waited for April and firmer ground)
🙂
There’s a huge fucking difference with the US in the mid East vs Russia in Ukraine. There was never any intention for the US to invade and incorporate those lands into the American co-prosperity sphere. Obviously, unlike Russia.
Similar to politicians, I’m sure they get special privileges as they travel the world
I once flew to MEL,AKL,WLG,CHC,MEL in one day on a Lear Jet. There was fuck all interest in what was on that Jet.
Timbo, we would not be enjoying ourselves any other way.
When too much (figurative) bare knuckled brawling is barely enough. 🙂
Driller is gaslighting as usual. It’s all the criminal ever does.
eb – the Sayle has a “full title”.
I’ll try and unearth it.
Yeah, I guess it’s just another item on the list of demands in the rider list (probably not included in writing in Appendix B to the contract, but).
Who aksked you?
JC:
Unfortunately, that scenario only works if the President and Vice President both kark it at the same time.
The party is able to swear in one or the other by making Harris the President, and then selecting a new VP.
Just appeared in my fed.

Well Amber and Johnny managed to get two Yorky terriers past without being noticed.
I can’t imagine 100 gms of powder would be terribly difficult.
Packed in one of the helpers bags of course.
The intensity with which cats are ignoring Gonzalo Lira says a lot.
His many clearly explained observations & insights into what’s happening in Ukraine (where he is), keep being backed up by facts that escape the propaganda machines, and those insights & observations do not agree with the utter BS that Western Govts/MSM keep trying to sell us.
And so he isn’t challenged here, simply ignored & quickly buried under reams of randomly tossed out of left field chit chat.
It’s like the Western Bar scene where the two protagonists have drawn on each other and are working out how to back out of the situation without getting killed.
Except one of them is a demented loon who is only vaguely aware of the gravity of the situation. He might just as readily start shooting, shit himself, or get distracted by some 12 year old girl.

Death on the Nile; marginally better than Orient Express.
Except, as ye say, Hillary Rodham Clinton would never stand for the cackling idiot becoming the first female President.
Trump is not getting elected Speaker.
Full stop.
Even if the Republicans have a house majority after the mid-terms.
I doubt he would get more than 100 of the 500+ votes cast.
Plenty of Republicans hate him, and others would simply argue that it is too much of a departure from convention to elect someone from outside Congress.
Interesting hypothetical, but not happening.

I don’t want to be one of the ones fighting. I want to be the town drunk who takes the opportunity to grab a bottle of redeye off the shelf and dive behind the piano.
‘ere we go, then:
Rooshans. They are evil deceptive monsters, I tells ya. You would not be trusting them for as long as you could engage them in sweet passionate beast with two backs style activities* before dropping dead after chowing down on a post aforementioned activity polonium sandwich.
*twominutemen
The US invaded Iraq intending for it to become a subsidiary of Schlumberger. It didn’t pan out.
Dream a little, Sanchez.
I think we’ve had enough Russia/Ukraine talk for the night…
Time for a subject change.
For some positive news, I recently picked up my VJ charger, complete with triple weber install, just waiting now for new diff and braking components to finish it…..
Who else has some positive news to share?? 🙂
Makka
No, just stop.
I wouldn’t judge the US based on what the media claims as popular culture nor would I accept the same about Australia.

That’s a fair point but it’s the crooks and marxists who are in charge. I hpe that they can be beaten but I’m not counting on it anymore.
Bit like this really.

Why don’t you head baci to New Zealand?
Your village must be missing it’s idiot by now.
So what’s your excuse for hanging about, Grigory?
No village will accept him?
Speaking only English, I’ve no idea what you just said.
Wrong link. Hate it when that happens.
Hey charger
Kim Il Carr gets the boot. How much has he cost the country?
If you’re talking about his brand of socialism, a huge amount.
If you mean the cost of return trips to the parliamentary canteen buffet over his years in the Senate, it cannot be adequately measured.
Did someone mention B Movies?
Hey Pancho – get off my planet before sundown, Squire, I tells ya!
Got to be The Young Ones.
Which the BBC put warnings on a week or so ago for thoughtcrime.
They insulted absolutely everyone so why get your panties in a twist only for special people? Sheesh the Beeb are hopeless nowadays.
I picked up my 1974 valiant charger with 3 side draught carburettors hanging of it after 11 years of restoration work…
Need to wait another 6 weeks for the parts I need before I can register it 🙂

When I was 14-15 way back when. My brother-in-law had an E38 Charger. When he drove off late at night you could hear the beast’s exhaust rumbling up the road two or three kms away. A complete and beautiful beast.
Here’s something fresh.
IQ’s peaked in those born in 1975.

The clot shot stats clearly show the 45-49 year old cohort seem more resistant in the ‘older age’ groups. Every single state shows the same thing. 45-49 year olds are an outlier.

I can understand the 20 years olds avoiding it as much as possible with the well known heart issues.
Yes JC. Your US uber-alles claptrap is a joke.
The fact you link to him with as punctually and frequently as a Peak Hour All-Stations train, singing his praises while you do so might have something to do with that, SRR.
If militant Nuffies and the Vlad Bae-lievers are experiencing episodes of mass gusset-moistening over his pronouncements, his objectivity could, quite resonably, be called into question…
Was there anything interesring about the Foo Fighters.
Yeah, they resurrected the name from a Flash Gordon comic, but outsida that?
And, by the way, I reckon the guy was a vaxx statistic.
Otherwise, why leak the story about 10 different drugs in his system?
Did they bleat about how much good stuff was in Charlie Watts’s system?
I’ll bet it was more than 10.
Interesting, so the US left Iraq but really wanted to stay. Huh!
Hehe, thank you so much for the retransmission en clair.
Indeed- The Glowie’s reappeared!
How are you? 😀
Cats, come with us back to those inglorious days when heroes weren’t zeroes … 🙂 A matinee feature laden with conservative legends as:
Caspar “the Defensive” Weinberger
Attilla the Haig

Movies are looking worse than ever and now no one is looking because we’re starring in a B Movie and we would rather have had Uncle Joe.
