He could present that to the Russian people as a strategic victory, even though his greater war aims were not achieved.

I reckon there’d be certain parties who’d want to blacken his name on the basis it might make it harder for any damages claim to proceed or to succeed.

You could apply the same argument to Israel Folau.
The point is, there is an order of magnitude between their footy salary and what they could earn elsewhere. And the sole determinant of contractual terms (the code, usually run by a Raelene Castle type) makes these “reputational and behavioural” clauses not negotiable, and no-one, but no-one, gets to scrub them from the contract.
Folau drew a payout because of this very reason. The clause was going to be declared unconscionable by a court and voided, and RA were no doubt advised they were on a loser.
But who wants to be the first one to break ranks?

No, there’s no way Israel will touch Syria. The Assad regime suits them. Assad’s Syria might be nasty but it’s a hell of a lot better than the Sunni Muslim Salafists and ISIS that were running around Syria between 2012 and 2017 beheading, raping and enslaving Christians, Yazidis, Druze, Shiites and Alawites. Say what you like about Putin but it was Russia that stepped in to defeat ISIS whilst the West, under Obama, stood by and did nothing, and in fact armed some Islamist terrorist groups.
Unlike the West, Israel knows the region and Israel understand something the West refuses to acknowledge, which is that democracy doesn’t work everywhere, particularly so in countries like Egypt, Syria and Libya.

“I suspect Iran is screwing around in Syria, no? If so why wouldn’t Israel try to clean up the debris?”
Because the losses would be catastrophic. Israel periodically bombs places in Syria, always telling the Russians beforehand. I remember a conversation with an Israeli who fought in the Golan in 73 and he said that the Syrians are good fighters, unlike the Egyptians. The Alawites who run Syria are a subsect of Shia Islam, which is why they have close ties to the Iranian regime. I think Israel looks to contain Iranian malevolence in places like Lebanon and Syria whilst opening up diplomatic ties with Sunni countries like the Gulf states in order to wedge Iran.

Yes…but there’s no way Israel will launch a ground invasion of either Lebanon or Syria.
Cassie – That looks likely to me. One thing people forget is that Syria and Israel are actually still in a formal state of war, since Syria never made peace since 1967. I think that suits Israel well since it legally allows them to splat Hezbies and IRGC critters when necessary. Which is often. But they’re pretty careful to avoid doing much damage to Syrians where they can help it.
There’s a danger Lapid will use his lame duck PMness to ratify a border agreement with Lebanon (reported today). That’s so typical of lefties – I hope he won’t, or that Gantz talks him out of it, since Lebanon is a Hezbie wholly-owned subsidiary these days.

Probably not, which is why Israel treads very carefully in Syria.
Very strange announcement.
Something about “sudden and unique circumstances”.
Here is a radical idea.
I know we are all for freedom of speech etc etc but the ongoing JC v Sal stoush has been going on for years and on some days can dominate the threads. It is boring in the extreme as it is so repetitive. We may have different views as to who is to blame.
On another forum I have been on they had the ability to “mutually ignore” people so they could not interact with each other. They could only post after logging in and once logged in could not even see each other’s comment. If not logged in could see the comments. I doubt this blog can do this.
However a simple way would be to impose a 1 or 2 day ban if one made a post aimed at the other or even reacted to the others comments.
I know this will come as an outrageous suggestion but might be worthy of consideration.
Naturally JC would be opposed to such a suggestion as he wants the situation to continue for years to come.
Just a thought.
If it’s “probably no” wouldn’t mean that Russia’s departure would make it relatively easier for Israel to poke around.
Archimedes struck thought.

Bear in mind that this is from the latest in a long line of personalities, of whom 95% contribute zero to the discussion except for sporadically popping up at the front door, and demanding blog management change everything around to suit their particular tastes – up to, and including banning people they disagree with. P, just now:
Damn straight it’s not. It’s a cracker, and one of the best information sources in the country as far as I am concerned. If it’s not to certain people’s tastes, there is a carefully-controlled echo chamber of a ‘blog’ I know of that may suit your needs.
NB: No, you do not get to make demands of this type because you throw a dollar in for admin costs.
Russia won’t leave Syria. And Russia is hedging in Armenia because the current Armenian leadership is wishy-washy and pro-Western.
“If it’s “probably no” wouldn’t mean that Russia’s departure would make it relatively easier for Israel to poke around.”
I doubt very much if Israel would want to poke around in Syria. Any intervention would mean conflict with Iran and that wouldn’t be pretty. What Israel wants are peace treaties like they have with Egypt, Jordan and other countries. In the meantime they’ll tolerate Assad in Syria, because as nasty as he is, his regime is secular.
JC, You clearly don’t recognise how pathetic you look. Difference is you prove it to us everyday. I could be away for weeks yet you will be putting on your daily performances in stirring up angst with multiple people often over nothing at all. Then rinse and repeat the next day and the next.

This is the same person who has spent years here hurling unwarranted vicious abuse at Lizzie.

Is it a triangle, I don’t know.
Some people say that one side is the Saudi, the Royal family and the privately owned American Central Bank.
Two are taken out at this point if that’s true.
Here’s where I come out. Everything was honky dory until the mid 90s.
Why?
The developed world was made up of US, Japan, Europe and a couple of stragglers like US. Oil hung around 18 bucks a barrel and the marginal change in commodity prices was made up by economic growth in the group. No one gave a shit about the rest because there was no reason to.
Now , the developing world is cooking up a storm and the worlds population has hit 8 billion. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of humility and over time – say for the rest of the century the world moves to nuclear energy.
Old Cats (are there any other kind?) will recall srr. It is no exaggeration to say that custard is sounding pretty much like srr used to.

Which has been a feature of every election since whenever to some extent.
2020 more so than others.
Fuck off Montifa you moron
Yes. He sounds like a nutter. Or an alcoholic. Or both.
I thought that Teddy Kennedy was dead?
Correct Sancho
I think ‘bearing false witness’ might be where you’ll have an issue.
Things are very loose in America right now. Fascism is on the rise.
Hard for it not to be when the administration is fascist in nature.
“According to various polls, somewhere between a quarter and a half of Republicans believe in this Q nonsense, or at least are agnostic about it and believe in its central tents.
Things are very loose in America right now. Fascism is on the rise.”
And many Democrats now believe that a woman can have a penis, that it’s okay to hack off young girl’s breasts, that Jews run the world and that Israel is evil.
Yes, things are very loose in America right now. Fascism is on the rise, from the left, the Democrats and their goons in BLM and Antifa
You really are a fuckwit.
Punched any Nazis today?
Republicans and Democrats have been cheating since time immemorial in the US elections.
Trump will stop it.
Custard, that’s enough for now; we have much to ruminate on.
Notice the pall-bearers wore gloves.
To hide the webbing.
I know nought of Johanna other than what I’ve read on callalaxy (old and new).
Lizzie’s comments have not been favourable toward me from back many years ago. Perhaps it’s because, I believe, I’d met her in the first half of 1964 at Lorenzini’s, in her first year at uni. It was an encounter I will never forget. Memorable indeed, but also unexpected and quite pleasant in a strange way.
I wouldn’t mind seeing her back here. She added dimension to this blog when she so often rose above the mundane.
Fatboy , leave him alone.
I take that back, custard, after Monty’s contribution, please go on.
I won’t go to bed just yet.
m0nster at 9:57.
Don’t be lifting stuff from The Red Speech and then accusing other people of being nuts.
Trump got his recommended special master appointed to review the FBI raid… who immediately began ruling against him. He is not playing 13D chess.
That messianic rubbish might have worked when he was President, but it rings really hollow now.
“Notice the pall-bearers wore gloves.
To hide the webbing.”
Oh wow…yes, that make sense.
Why the Middle Class Is Being Destroyed
JC, remember all those times you railed against Memory Vault? custard is about the same sort of character. I will take your stoush-related recommendations under advisement.
Okay so you want more. Please allow me to reflect on what I’ve said so far.
And those long Beefeater tunics?
Very convenient for tucking the tail out of sight.
“To hide the webbing.”
Those busbys on the royal guards too, definitely something going on with hats like that. Filaments are like aerials, to the cosmos.
The FBI may have just made the best case for dismantling itself
Good idea.
I’d park it for now.
There’s plenty to take in.
“And those long Beefeater tunics?
Very convenient for tucking the tail out of sight.”
Wow…wow….yes.
They’ve recently been bombing Syria.
Ah. Righto. Got it.
Next: Who are we saying ‘recruited’ him?
Once again – not taking the piss. Genuine question.
Both of them made a stand, monty. Far more then you ever tried to do.
Donald Trump is the most powerful and important political figure on the planet.
No one can deny that he has far exceeded any metric on which he ought be judged.
He definitely had a plan when he came to office. He appointed all the right people at all the right times when needed. Think Kash, Durham, Miller, Watnick.
Think about the Supreme Court.
Think about all the judges he appointed elsewhere.
His relationship with Ellison.
Musk.
Q.
EO 13818 and 13848
Trump has the receipts.
You are watching a movie!
Q tabs
I have not missed a single Trump speech.
His last two speeches have connotations around Q.
This is a marker.
That values the sites at less than $500,000 each, which sounds really cheap… until you remember the cost of environmental cleanup. So many servos knocked down and left vacant for years due to soil contamination.
It takes about $1M to build a site complete (including shop and canopy). The environmental risk is now much lower with double wall tanks and lines. The remediation costs can be controlled as long as you have time. You need to get oxygen to the contamination so that the naturally occurring microbes can get about eating it.
In my view Viva got an absolute bargain.
Here’s the difference:
Custard was standing for the Senate. Having a crack at sticking it to the Liars/SFLs, while at the same time,
JC was posting complimentary observations about the fashion choice of guys at the coffee shop.
Generally speaking, this blog is off the pace when considering what is unfolding in the USA.
Wake the fuck up.
I have, and I’m repeating it. By what agency will all the very obvious wrongs be righted? Biden (and his handlers) is still destroying America, and the world, day by day. Talk is cheap.
I will post my phone number again tomorrow morning (I think Dover deleted it last night)
And I’d happily take any call.
“They’ve recently been bombing Syria.”
Israel does that regularly however they will never launch a land invasion.
Indolent
Durham
Please, no sexting to Custard’s number, we’re not that sort of club.
Oh. Okay.
Ask a couple of reasonable genuine questions in an attempt to get across your point/s, and get cryptic tunnel-involved seven-hour substack references, and then sworn at. No worries.
I might revise the ‘not taking the piss’ policy then. As the corporates remark, it may no longer be fit for purpose.
