However, since it could be a criminal defamation claim he may be safe under the higher criminal standard.

Assuming they have criminal defamation laws in the ACT, there’s no way she’s charged. Not a chance. IIRC, in WA the Director of Public Prosecutions himself (not the office – the top dog in the office) must sign off on a decision to charge anyone for criminal defamation. It’s rarely charged and by design. I’d be surprised if the situation was radically different in the ACT.

In my experience on a Vic County Court rape case the judge made it very clear to only assess based on evidence provided in court. No researching or visiting crime scene etc. Judges make it very clear of the seriousness of this direction being breached.
After we sent the dude down i read the next day in the paper two other cases were linked to the offender, one case did not get near court and the other alleged victim withdrew at the 11th hour.

Sorry, the Director of Public Prosecutions himself must sign off on a decision to *prosecute* someone for criminal defamation. I guess the cops could charge whoever they wanted for it.

If you think you’ve been raped, go directly to the nearest emergency room and tell the triage nurse what you suspect and have them perform the necessary procedures and then make your statement to police.

Exactly. If this information is not provided during sex education classes to high school students, it ought to be.

That stupid (or cunning) juror who deliberately disobeyed the judge’s directions about outside research needs their arse kicked until their nose bleeds.

It reinforces my opinion that a lot of the people selected for jury duty become like mindless sheep when taken outside their comfort zone.

Easier to stamp your foot when it’s the system, not the individual(s) who disregarded 17 directives. Seems to me the system is blameless.

“That information has made its way into the jury when it ought not to have.”

Juror didn’t like the direction the verdict was heading so decided to throw a spanner in?

I think that’s a distinct possibility.
A hung jury of 9-3 or 10-2 to acquit might have the DPP thinking about packing it in.
But a mis-trial due to juror misbehaviour almost guarantees a re-trial.
Like Pell, he could be convicted on an aggregate jury vote of 14-10 or 13-11 over two trials.

Caught a few minutes of Ray Hadley 2 hours ago.

He was talking about a Ch 7 segment on a far right religious candidate, McCoy, running for NSW seat of Castle Hill. Seems he has been selected over Police Minister David Elliot.

Handley upset because of his views : anti Vax, anti mandate, anti abortion, anti euthanasia and seems he has also mentioned Dr Peter McCullough who recommends ivermectin treatment.

Hadley probably had a fainting spell and no doubt going to spend remaining months before the election trashing his reputation.

Trivia/Humor:
You can get an MRI scan – heard of that one, right?
They used to call it an NMR – “nuclear magnetic resonance”.
But too many people said “I’m here for one of them NMR thingies”, and then afterwards said “Wow, medicine is amazing. They were checking me for brain cancer, and they stuck a hose up me clacker – don’t ask me how that works!”
Much less of an issue now it’s called an MRI.

Actually, what Brittany the Knickerless is really saying is….

1. She should be believed.
2. There should not be any trial.
3. Lehmann is guilty because SHE SAYS SO.

This has been the mantra of Seven-Nilligan and Co for a while and became even more shrill after Pell was acquitted.

ABCcess this morning breathlessly reporting on a brave protester willing to risk jail for his beliefs and how wonderfully wonderful it was.
A 10 minute interview where he outlined how something could have happenned, but didnt.

The cause???

Bum banditry.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/oct/25/peter-tatchell-qatar-doha-lgbt-rights-protest

Tatchell said he and a colleague, Simon Harris, who filmed the protest, were arrested and detained at the scene but the Qatari government has denied this.

The veteran campaigner was holding a placard that read: “Qatar arrests, jails & subjects LGBTs to ‘conversion’ #QatarAntiGay.”

The Peter Tatchell Foundation said it was the first LGBT+ protest in Qatar or any Gulf state.

Funny cant find anything on their website about the Covid shit.

Tatchell has written an obituary in The Independent for Paedophile Information Exchange founder Ian Dunn,[106] as well as an essay for a pro-paedophile activist and Paedophile Information Exchange member Warren Middleton in the book “Betrayal of Youth (BOY)”. The actor and activist, John Connors described Tatchell as a “paedophile apologist”

lol you can bet the farm that’s going absolutely nowhere. Her tirade was written for her by professionals who would have had a risk/reward calculation in mind, and I think they calculated correctly. It would have been written a long time ago, alongside the speech she would have given in the event of a guilty verdict. Probably very little difference between the two, really. The latter probably contains a few shout-outs to the judge, the jury, the sisterhood, the Academy etc but the rest would have been the same.

Well, we just walked out from the second performance of the comedian who was OK and funny last time just the other nite. He started off getting a little more raunchy, and going on about fun ‘edibles’, and that was reasonable, it’s a joke show etc and we’re all adults etc. But of dear, then he got onto climate change and turned his platform into a rabid rave about how can people be so totally against 98% of scientists? etc. and he laced that lot with a serve about those living below the Mason-Dixie line who still ‘go on’ about the Confederate flag mimicking accents and making fun of them. He really got worked up plying the Democrat line at this stage in the mid-terms, which was totally out of order in a show drawn from many retired people who’d have a range of views, and he was geeing up some loudmouths in the audience who were egging him on.

We found this all totally disrespectful of people living in the southern states, like my rellies in Louisiana. He’d asked for a show of hands who came from the South and while we know some from the South were in the audience, they were far too put down and intimidated in the climate he was generating to raise their hands; so he felt he had license to spruik his views at everyone.

Let’s go, said Hairy to me loudly, and out we walked.

If anyone asks us we’ll say Australians won’t sit and listen to climate crap paid for by our money.

So many people are still influenced and cowed by this sort of mediated anti-conservative culture.
I hope beyond hope that the mid-terms can put a bit of egg on the faces of comdedians like this.

What a shame the response of the Britannia Panopticon audience to dud acts has gone out of fashion:

But this was an audience that had for generations cut its teeth on the barbarous practice of public punishments and executions, which in Glasgow had been the only form of legitimate entertainment from the 1550s to the 1750s. Consequently the Glasgow audience evolved over the generations into a merciless mob who literally left no turn un-stoned. In Britannia Music Hall the turns (acts) could find themselves pelted with Shipyard rivets, nails, rancid turnips and horse manure, whilst urine might rain down on them from the balcony. However, if the turn appealed to the Britannia’s audience, they would be rewarded with thunderous applause and foot-stamping instead.

Bring it back, I say!

The fact that the ACT Victims of Crimes Commissioner – who (legally) knows damn well that after the judges warning that “things should go quiet before the retrial in February” that Higgins should stay schtum – stood by Higgins while she made that statement, suggests very strongly that there’s a coordinated push to change the law on prosecution of sexual assaults.

I only listen to him during car trips. Sometimes might get something of interest but more than likely going to get him :

It is very noticeable that his show won’t let on callers who might disagree with him. If they do get on he will shut them down quickly.

Honestly – the whole Higgins saga is being orchestrated for an outcome nothing to do with this particular case.

1/ Jury lengthy deliberations – likely heading for ‘not guilty’ based on complete lack of evidence and sketchy accuser stories..
2/ not-guilty derailed by ‘accidentally’ uncovering research by juror
3/ judge says ‘keep your mouths shut’.
4/ pre-prepared speech fed to media about how unfair it all is, with ACT VoCC (lesbian mafia) standing right there supporting Higgins.

I’d love to see if anyone on the prosecution side had contact with that particular juror.

An indefinite stay of proceedings would feed right into the narrative. Not guilty would not.

Daily Mail show 58 Secs of speech

show 3 mins 26 secs

From the Comments

– That was obviously a long and well prepared in advance statement. Contempt of court any day of the week.

– Absolutely incredible that the MSM could publish in any form her emotive, rehearsed and well planned attack. To suggest that the defendant never said a word, never had to explain etc is to contemptuous to believe. He (or she for that matter) are entitled to the presumption of innocence and are entitled to remain silent) for her to emotionally suggest otherwise is wrong and her Counsel should be dragged back before the Court and lashed publicly by her Honour.
I’ve got no doubt this will just add a further chapter to her book that will obviously be bound over until after the new trial. But her conduct is deplorable.

“I chose to speak up against rape”.

Like the vast majority of Australians. Quite a few even spoke up for Kathy Sherriff. Higgins was not one of them. It kind of would have been good to speak up on how courts should believe all women back then, bugger the trial.

– How entitled is this person? She believes the whole justice system is against her just because she didn’t get the outcome she expected. The accused has the right to silence. It is the prosecution that has to present evidence to convince the jury that the accused is guilty. It has been like this for a very long time but when Ms Higgins and the backing of the Great Wilkinson tribe they think the system should change for her. Maybe she realises how bad it will look for her if the accused is found not guilty.

– RIGHT after Judge said THIS below:

“I would expect after reporting the outcome of today, that reporting of the matter should fall silent,” Chief Justice McCallum said.

…..Crikey and Higgins do the very opposite. Trial at risk of being stayed again, maybe permanently.

That doesn’t make sense.
A juror has admitted introducing the the document to the jury room.
If it was planted by an over-zealous court official why would a juror admit to it?
If it was a juror, they could simply stymie a not guilty verdict until the cows come home.
It is more likely that it was leaning heavily towards not guilty and a juror has been advised that an aborted trial is “better” than an 11-1 hung jury.
“Better”, as in, a higher chance of re-trial.

America’s brittle consensus on Ukraine will soon break

The pressure on Biden to negotiate with Putin is bound to grow, especially after Republicans win the midterms and with a US recession looming.

Edward Luce Columnist

“Diplomacy” is a taboo word in American politics right now. The speed at which progressive Democrats this week disowned their call for Joe Biden to talk to Russia is testament to that.

Only Ukraine can decide when and how this war will end, the legislators insisted. The group was clearly shell-shocked by the savagery of condemnation from their own side.

Yet, they were guilty only of speaking out too soon. Wars end in one of two ways: with the unconditional surrender of one party or in a negotiated settlement. As the world’s equal largest nuclear power, Russia’s full capitulation is almost unimaginable.

That means the West and Ukraine will eventually have to negotiate an end to this war. That moment has not arrived. But it is probably nearer than most people think.

It would be madness to open ceasefire talks with Vladimir Putin at a time when Ukrainians are recapturing territory. Today’s urgency is for the West to give Ukraine enough firepower to regain Kherson and what they can of the Donbas before winter. The stronger Ukraine’s military position next spring, the likelier Putin’s “partial mobilisation” will fail to reverse the war’s direction.

But the situation on the ground – the American ground, that is – will have changed a lot between now and then. Two big factors will weigh on when Biden will try to bring this war to an end. The first is Republicans’ probable capture of one or both chambers of Congress in midterm elections in two weeks.

Republicans on the warpath

Kevin McCarthy, the likely next Speaker of the House of Representatives, has warned that Republicans will not provide a “blank cheque” for Ukraine’s self-defence.

Fifty-seven House Republicans and 11 senators voted against the $US40 billion ($62 billion) Ukraine aid package earlier this year. That money is depleting fast.

In the Republican quest to make a scorched earth of Biden’s presidency, nothing will be sacrosanct, including Ukraine’s military pipeline. The pro-Putin wing of the Republican Party remains a minority. But almost every Republican will back McCarthy’s likely efforts to impeach Biden and hold the US debt ceiling hostage to their demands.

It is naive to assume the Ukraine consensus would survive what both US parties see as an existential battle for the republic.

The second is that the US will be entering a recession. Economists are virtually unanimous that America will not escape that fate in 2023. This will pose an acute threat to Biden’s – or to another Democratic nominee’s – chances of defeating Donald Trump, or a Trump-like Republican, in 2024.

Congressional Republicans will be working in tandem with the recession to darken Biden’s electoral clouds. As the 2024 reckoning looms, Ukraine’s fate will take a back seat to America’s.

The imperatives confronting Ukraine and Biden are still the same. The faster Ukraine can roll back Russia’s military, the better for everyone. Biden and the US’s allies still have a window to tilt the advantage further in Ukraine’s favour.

Interests will diverge by 2024

But American and Ukrainian interests will diverge as 2024 looms. Critics of the US-led coalition say they are fighting Russia down to the last Ukrainian. Yet, as both paymaster and quartermaster, America’s support is indispensable. Fiscal metrics do not capture the real cost of a war that is stoking the inflation that is so harmful to Democratic prospects.

The White House maintains it will be Ukraine’s choice how this war comes to an end. That will be true until the moment it is not.

The question remains why Democrats are so quick to shut down debate in their ranks. The intensity of liberal hawkishness has caught even the White House by surprise. The answer has as much to do with the US republic’s uncertain future as with Russia’s threat to European peace.

These spectres are stamped with the faces of Trump and Putin. Biden framed his democracy versus autocracy line on the campaign trail to highlight Trump’s threat to US democracy.

Trump’s “semi-fascist” leanings (in Biden’s words) are even more menacing today than they were when he lost the election. There are hundreds of Republicans on the ballot who back Trump’s claim that Biden stole the presidency.

The return of Trump in 2024 would be Putin’s ultimate “get out of jail free” card. In the past eight months, Putin has united the West and forged a lasting sense of Ukrainian nationhood.

His ineptitude has been epic. But peak western unity has probably been reached. Democracy’s biggest existential stakes are still in the US. In addition to surrender or deal, war has a third outcome – indefinite suspension. The hotter America’s politics becomes, the greater the temptation to freeze Ukraine’s.

US, UK may soon pull back on arms for Ukraine

US elections and UK austerity could reduce the flow of weapons to Ukraine just as the war’s tide had turned in its favor

By ANDREW SALMON – OCTOBER 26, 2022

Political developments in Ukraine’s two most important suppliers of arms could significantly plug the weapons pipeline – just as Kiev has regained the operational initiative in a war that has been raging since February.

In the UK, newly inaugurated Prime Minister Rishi Sunak – whose professional experience is in the economic rather than the geostrategic sphere – has already pledged to rein in public spending.

In the US, President Joe Biden may well lose control of Congress and/or the Senate at November 8 mid-term elections, with opposition Republicans vowing to cut back on US arms shipments to Ukraine.

Both could have a serious impact on Kiev’s war-making capabilities given the importance of the two Anglosphere democracies in aiding Volodymyr Zelensky’s government. The US and UK are, respectively, the number one and two arms suppliers to Kiev and the first and third providers of financial and humanitarian aid.

If a slowdown in US and UK arms shipments is significant, it would play into the hands of an embattled Vladimir Putin, whose decimated and undermanned forces are on the back foot across most of the Ukrainian warscape.

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy tracks multiple nations’ arms exports to Ukraine.

The institute’s data shows that between January 24 and October 3, 2022, the US pledged the largest amount of military aid worth 27 billion euros followed by the UK with promises of 3.74 billion euros.

The next largest suppliers of military aid fall well behind Washington and even London. EU institutions pledged 2.5 billion euros worth of arms over the period, while Poland promised to supply arms valued at 1.82 billion euros.

In terms of humanitarian and financial aid, the institute found that the US was, again, the largest donor, with pledges of 24.7 euros, while the UK was in third place pledging 5 billion. EU institutions were in second place, promising 13.7 billion to Kiev.

Overall, both Washington and London have pledged 0.2% of their respective GDPs to support Kiev, the institute found.

Condolences to all the farmers and householders badly affected by this awful weather. We have been relatively lucky having only lost fencing, and not stock or crops, or indeed, housing.

Even so, with all this lush green fodder the risk of grass tetany is real for our older cows. I hadn’t thought of this when we released them into a creek paddock (now clear of overflow) that they had been eyeing off this morning. Got them out after an hour or so. One overweight black Angus cow is a bit of a worry as she seemed a little stiff in one of her legs.

In spite of a BOM forecast for only a brief shower, around midday the heavens opened once again – about 50mm. The driveway to the house is a river which proceeds further down to flood the cattle yards 700m away. Thankfully I did the house grounds with the ride-on before the deluge. But the garden weeds which I spent hours removing a week ago have been replaced by even higher growth.

BTW one of the hazards of having fencing washed away in the floods is not only losing your own stock (we didn’t as we closed off the creek paddocks before the Big Wet) – but acquiring your unwanted neighbours’ stock. We have the unenviable situation of having an absentee owner adjacent who recently acquired a dozen “weaners” which subsequently got into our property via said creek paddocks with washed away fences.

We arrived from Sydney after husband had been released from hospital after a substantial operation to find these young heifers had broken down our internal fences and were about to join our herd. We also found our neighbour on our property, but unable to unlock the padlock on the one adjoining gate on our boundary. In spite of his condition, husband had to take carriage of the whole situation as the neighbour has zero understanding of cattle – especially of “weaners” which are crazy at the best of times. After unlocking the gate, husband and I carefully rounded them up – but then found the neighbour’s wife standing at the gate they needed to enter. In spite of yelling at her to move – skittish cattle will never enter a gate when someone is standing beside it – she insisted on staying “because I want them to go into an adjacent paddock”. Hell is having to negotiate with people like that.

Weapons sent to Ukraine appearing on black market – Putin

The Russian president has warned that portable air defense systems and high-precision armaments may fall into the wrong hands

Western weapons flowing into Ukraine have begun to make their way onto black markets, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with the heads of security and special services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries on Wednesday.

The Russian leader called on the participants of the meeting to bolster cooperation in anti-terrorism efforts and noted that there were “serious challenges” posed by the emerging black arms markets in Ukraine.

Putin claimed that “cross-border criminal groups” were actively involved in smuggling weapons to other regions and that it wasn’t just small firearms. “There is a persistent risk of criminals getting hold of more powerful weapons, including portable air defense systems and precision weapons.”

The president’s statement comes after Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, warned last month that corrupt Ukrainian officials had established channels to deliver Western-supplied weapons onto the global black market.

Meanwhile, the West’s top military officials have admitted that it is nearly impossible to effectively track where the billions of dollars worth of arms delivered to Ukraine actually end up. Pentagon Inspector General Sean O’Donnell told Bloomberg in August that there was almost no fidelity as the Ukrainians still used paper “hand receipts” to trace supplied weapons.

CBS News also reported that some 70% of weapons supplied to Ukraine never make it to the front lines as they have to pass through a network of “power lords, oligarchs and political players.”

“There is really no information as to where they’re going at all,” Donatella Rovera, a senior crisis adviser with Amnesty international told the outlet, adding that it was “really worrying” that the countries supplying these weapons do not find it necessary to put in place robust oversight mechanisms.

CBS was later pressured, however, to pull the documentary and amend the story after the channel was accused of spreading “Russian propaganda.” Ukrainian presidential adviser Mikhail Podoliak has insisted there is “no proof” that weapons entering the country were unaccounted for.

Ukraine has insisted that an uninterrupted flow of Western weapons is the key to the country’s survival on the battlefield. Russia, meanwhile, has warned on multiple occasions that pumping Kiev with weapons will only prolong the conflict.

His water retention was terrible; he looks like a South African rugby front row forward. Now, just clear your old, congealed mind, head prefect, and look at these, admire the effort they put in (which you couldn’t) and consider if you were out with this and some young punks got fresh, you wouldn’t have to do anything except pay the bill for dinner and make sure the Merc was fuelled and ready to go. His first action. Close off the cheap energy supply.

Time for some fact checking.

It’s a moratorium, not a ban, in place until investigations into earth tremors said to be associated with fracking in the UK are complete.

It is, in fact, Conservative Party policy, developed in 2019 in reponse to local community concerns expressed to Tory MPs. Labor favours a complete ban on fracking.

Fracking would have no immediate impact on the price of gas in the UK, which is laregly set – as it is here – by the international market. Further, as Kwasi Kwarteng conceded when Truss lifted the moratorium, it would take 10 years for fracking to put any negative pressure on domestic gas prices.

And, lastly, Truss’s fracking policy still required local community support for any project to resume or begin. Given that only c. 17% of Brits support fracking, according to the Truss government’s own polling, that support was likely to be thin on the ground.

So, whatever we may think of the wisdom or otherwise of this decision, it is clearly one that has been taken in response to local and domestic politis rather than any putative globalist agenda.

Interesting Comment from

Zelensky gets ‘message’ from Putin

The president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo, told his Ukrainian counterpart that the Russian leader was open to talking

From the Comments

– Oleksiy Arestovich: “The situation in Kherson is changing unpleasantly for the Ukrainian forces” Confession from the adviser of the Ukrainian president. The adviser of the Ukrainian president V. Zelensky, Oleksei Arestovich admitted today what the real tactical situation is on the Kherson front and that it is not good at all for the Ukrainian forces. In recent days the Western media have attempted to portray Ukrainian forces as already victorious in Kherson despite the fact that there were many clear signs that the Russians have stabilized the front. Western media have also tried to portray the departure of thousands of residents from the region as a sign that the Russians are losing and evicting Russian-speaking residents.

But the truth was that the residents were leaving to protect themselves from the Ukrainian bombardments and the Russians wanted there to be no civilians in the areas they would hit with all their power. Ukrainian losses are constantly increasing as the fortified and reinforced Russians no longer take a step back, as a result of which Ukrainian attempts to re-occupy territories that now belong to the Russian state fall into the void and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Oleksii Reznikov tries to justify himself by saying that for it’s all the fault of the… mud.

The Ukrainian losses since the beginning of the great counter-offensive, and especially since September 1, reach 15,000 dead and they are trying with every soldier and mercenary to carry out the American instructions for attacks continuously until the mid-term elections, as a result of which they fall in front of the Russian “wall”.

Referring to the Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian forces in Kherson, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov stressed that this counteroffensive is proving more difficult than the one in the northeast due to wet weather and terrain.

US scales back plan for Russian oil price cap – Bloomberg

Washington has reportedly been forced to pursue more “loosely policed” market controls

President Joe Biden’s administration has reportedly been forced back to the drawing board on its plan to cap international prices for Russian oil, having failed to secure enough commitments to control how much Moscow is paid for the bulk of its crude exports.

The US and the European Union will likely have to settle for a “loosely policed” pricing cap, enforced by fewer buyers and at a higher price than envisioned, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified people familiar with the plans. The original goal was to drastically reduce Russia’s oil revenue – the latest effort to punish Moscow for its military offensive in Ukraine – by imposing a strict price lid to which a broad “buyer’s cartel” of nations would adhere.

Instead, only G7 nations and Australia have committed to honoring the price cap, Bloomberg said, attributing failure of the original plan to investor skepticism, volatile financial markets and efforts to tame inflation around the world. The cap level also might need to go higher than a previously targeted range of $40-$60 per barrel.

Biden’s administration has denied that its plan would fall short of throttling Russian oil revenue. “The White House and the administration are staying the course on implementing an effective, strong price cap on Russian oil in coordination with the G7 and other partners,” White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson told Bloomberg in a statement.

Russian officials have said the country won’t sell oil or other commodities under price caps or unprofitable market conditions. Nor will Moscow supply energy to nations that adopt trade policies contradicting the terms of their existing oil and natural gas contracts, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak said earlier this month. A cap on crude wouldn’t be viable because prices are driven by the global supply-demand balance, he added.

The G7 price cap is scheduled to go into force on December 5, along with an EU ban on imports of seaborne Russian crude. Reuters reported last week that after December 5, Russia would still be able to ship the vast majority of its oil exports at market prices because it would have ample access to tankers and other services. The outlet cited a US Treasury official as saying that between 80% and 90% of Russian oil would continue to flow to buyers outside the cap mechanism.

Russia would have access not only to its own oil tankers, but also to Chinese and Indian ships, Reuters added. Traders and insurance companies from Russia, Asia and the Middle East would provide the necessary transactional services. Brent crude, a leading international oil benchmark, is currently selling for around $95 per barrel.

Pfizer Price Hike

From Armstrong Economics –

“Our computer indicated that Pfizer was heading down. They’ve already convinced or coerced everyone eligible to take the vaccines. Those who have held out are unlikely ever to accept the vaccine at this point. Only 5% of those eligible in the US received a booster shot as skepticism is rising. Numerous studies have revealed the hidden dangers of the vaccine. Transmission and infection are still possible with the vaccination, eliminating the intended purpose. A Pfizer representative recently admitted that they never even tested the potion for transmission. Worse, new studies determined that the vaccine produces a negative effect and makes people more susceptible to COVID. There is no medical basis for taking them.

Still, there are those who will line up to receive another booster. To compensate for the lack of willing participants, Pfizer announced plans to quadruple the price of its COVID vaccine. Pfizer will now charge around $110 to $130 per dose, and this comes at a cost to governments who are willingly paying to distribute the poison to the public. The US government helped Pfizer create the vaccine under Operation Warpspeed by providing them with billions in funding.

“We are confident that the U.S. price point of the COVID-19 vaccine reflects its overall cost effectiveness and ensures the price will not be a barrier for access for patients,” Pfizer executive Angela Lukin said. The US was previously paying around $30 per jab. Coincidentally, once the COVID emergency order ends, private insurance companies will be forced to pay the increased price for a faulty product. Lukin believes the private sector will not take over the bill until Q1 2023 “at the earliest.” It will be interesting to see if insurance companies are willing to eat the cost of the vaccine. More than likely, they will expect some incentive from doing so, or Pfizer and others will offer some rebate program funded by the government that continues to support this agenda.”

Labor to cut $2.4b over four years state public hospital funding.

The cut is based on reduced reported activity in hospitals.

That reduced activity is the result of covid impacts on elective surgery and clinics, which one might reasonably expect will return to pre-2019 levels of activity well within that 4 year period.

While this may provide an impetus for the states to examine wastage in hospitals, which would be welcome, it’s a pretty stupid decision that belies the claim that Labor will always look after public hospitals and the people who rely on them.

John Helmer: “The US signals readiness to launch nuclear strike against Russia”

Interesting assessment

This principle is called “mutually assured destruction”. It was this, and not anything else, that guaranteed the absence of major wars on our planet since 1945.

However, today the situation is somewhat different. The number of nuclear warheads has become such that the exchange of nuclear strikes cannot lead to the guaranteed death of all living things. The number of carriers of nuclear weapons has fallen to such numbers that even after a massive, all-out strike, wildlife, untouched cities and towns, and people will remain in the Northern Hemisphere. A nuclear war without the death of all participants has become possible.

The second problem is the combat stability of the Russian nuclear forces in their current configuration. Russia was able to revive the Missile Attack Warning System (SPRN). The missiles that are supposed to retaliate and counter-strike are regularly updated.

But now our fleet has fewer ships than Japan. There is no possibility to intercept or block all dangerous waters with the operations of Russia’s anti-submarine forces. And this means that, as in the case of the Arabian Sea, the Americans and the British who can hold the area, will be free to manoeuvre there in order to strike from locations where the missiles can reach us too quickly. For example, in the Northern, Norwegian, Barents, Mediterranean and Arabian Seas.

Russian strategic submarines are few in number today compared to the Soviet times. Together with the qualitative superiority of the US Navy, this creates an environment where the Americans can destroy our submarines immediately before the attack begins. This, alas, is a fact known to specialists. At the same time, 44% of all strategic nuclear warheads in Russia are placed on submarines. And almost all of them are in two (!) fleet bases vulnerable to the first strike. The Russian strategic aviation has never learned to fight like the American one, and it is not a means of guaranteed retaliation.

The combination of these factors creates a technical opportunity for the United States to launch a successful disarming nuclear strike against Russia without receiving a significant blow in response. At the same time, the intensity of anti-Russian propaganda is such that the western man in the street will not have to justify anything — from that perspective everything is already prepared. And right now there is the hint of the possibility of such a strike when the West Virginia surfaced in the Arabian Sea.

Chinese factor, flight time and impact mechanics

It’s all very complicated, and the risks of loss of surprise are very high. But their chances of success are not zero. With the visit of West Virginia to our ‘soft underbelly’, the Americans clearly show how far they are willing to go if they deem it necessary. The Americans are sending an extremely clear signal – for them, nuclear war is no longer unthinkable, and not impossible.

It’s a moratorium, not a ban, in place until investigations into earth tremors said to be associated with fracking in the UK are complete.

Total bollocks. Here’s why:

Energy crisis lifeline as UK urged to tap into huge potential for geothermal technology (20 Oct)

Now, the Environmental Audit Committee has written a letter to Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg urging him to provide an update on evidence it has received as part of the review into the potential of geothermal technologies in Britain.

According to the committee, geothermal energy can potentially fulfil much of UK’s current heating demands via a combination of heat pumps, district heating systems, and power generation.

They are pushing geothermal energy which causes earth tremors SIMULTANEOUSLY with trying to ban fracking “because” of earth tremors. Hypocrisy on stilts.

(Reykjavik regularly gets tremors up to Richter 4 or so when the geothermal plant nearby is doing water injections, and they show up on the IMO earthquake map.)

Davos in the Desert

From Armstrong Economics –

“Some of the biggest players have gathered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the annual Future Investment Initiative (FII). The conference is often referred to as “Davos in the Desert,” as they are competing with the World Economic Forum to be the largest economic conference of the year. Washington’s relationship with Saudi Arabia is at a standstill, but that is not preventing Wall Street’s chief names from attending.

“American companies will make their own decisions about their presence and where to invest, taking into account a range of factors including legal constraints, the business environment, and reputational concerns that can arise from public policy choices made by host countries,” said Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary.

Former Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who both run private funds backed by the Saudis, were in attendance. JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon and Goldman’s David Solomon spoke at the event along with Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman and investor Ray Dalio. FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried also spoke at the event. No one associated with the Biden Administration was in attendance as Washington is re-evaluating its relationship with Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s economy is rapidly growing. The event is Prince Mohammed’s opportunity to show that the kingdom is ready to be seen as a financial powerhouse beyond its energy sector. The private sector is making it known that they are willing to invest in Saudi Arabia despite Washington’s reluctance.”

I came across a tweet from October 17th claiming the platform doesn’t “…censor any posts. [The] algorithms simply filter out fake news, bigotry, and hostility” and I thought this was a great opportunity to put their claim to the test.

I opened an account and posted a few messages, the first reading “Men cannot get pregnant.” Others included “men cannot become women and women cannot become men,” and “Joe Biden sniffs little girls.” Immediately, the Ministry of Truth went into overdrive. Tribel users began reporting and even misgendering me!

In less than 20 minutes, my account was suspended and I was banned from the platform.

Perceptions are everything, and a government trailing the opposition by c. 30 pts can’t afford to hang to unpopular policies.

So they dumped a policy of allowing cheaper energy in favour of causing blackouts across Britain in winter, and freezing pensioners who can’t afford gas heating. Contemptible.

Unplug the fridge: UK gears up for hard cold winter and BBC secretly plans for a national blackout (27 Oct)

Last week someone leaked that the BBC was secretly planning what to do if the UK gets a full two-day national blackout in the dead of winter. Apparently the BBC will advise people to use their car radios, or haha “battery powered receivers” (do the millennials know what they are?) to tune in the BBC. If they manage that, the BBC could then helpfully tell them, the minute after it was too late to do anything, that the blackouts may affects their gas supply, their mobile phone, the cash machines and all the traffic lights too. And don’t call an ambulance unless you really need it. But that’s OK, because if their phone battery goes flat, they won’t be able to anyway.

As Winter Looms, Britons Bank on Warming Hubs

The phenomenon is widespread — the 262,000-resident city of Wolverhampton alone expects 38 such centers to open within its limits this year. But issues such as disability access, amenities and even ideal indoor temperatures may vary widely. Lewis’s how-to guide is aimed at ensuring that these often bottom-up, locally organized facilities are inclusive, financially sustainable and welcoming.

Warming hubs. How about that? Do oldies have to trudge through sleet to get to one, just so they can camp out overnight and not freeze to death?
