I’ve been very critical of Howard here over the last few years I know but maybe he was a good as it gets. I certainly don’t have the confidence and optimism for this country that I had back in say 2005. Still can’t really forgive him for Trumble though.
Boycotting is the obvious solution.
Cassie, I have taken to searching out sad videos of abused doggies who then are rescued and become lovely loving dergs with a spring in their four legs and their eyes filled with love and affection. It somehow soothes the soul and repairs optimism to see them well and cared for by humans after all of their maltreatment and trials. Same for kitties too, although they are different in how they express attachment. Occasionally there are other videos of animals being cross-species attached, anything from birdies to lions, or putting on some amazing performances or simply being unbearably cute. It seems to say that as animals we all share something fundamental.
Except millions of others did too, which therefore doesn’t make it just a lived experience, you boneheaded imbecile. A lived experience is basically an anecdote that may not be enough to explain a pattern That comment wouldn’t be described as an anecdote. Look up the word, it would be a new one for you, Blog Warrior.
I 1994 the ANC got into power in SA and we packed up the kids and left. There was no doubt in my mind where the country was going. Family members followed us but half stayed. They were the wealthy ones who felt they had too much to lose. And their wealth is tied up in land. This includes a wine farm, and a number of game ranches as well as sugar, timber and crops. The farm buildings and with the exception of the wine farm in the Cape the other farms are in KwaZulu Natal and have heavy security around the buildings. We were over there last year and there is no way I could live under that continuous stress. It’s just so dangerous. All of these family members would have been able to get into Oz based on the points system when we left. Yet they still stay!

Outgoing DPP Shane Drumgold defends his record as Lehrmann lawyer claims he was a “social justice crusader”
Angira Bharadwaj & James Morrow & Ellen Ransley
Bruce Lehrmann’s lawyer labels prosecutor Shane Drumgold a “social justice crusader” who lost his objectivity as the ACT DPP announces he is standing down in the wake of a damning report into his handling of the Brittany Higgins rape trial.
The ACT‘s embattled Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold has quit over damning allegations of misconduct in the rape trial that rocked the nation — as his rival in the case labelled him a “social justice crusader” who lost his objectivity.
Mr Drumgold handed in his resignation after an inquiry into the handling of Brittany Higgins’ rape allegations against fellow Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann — effectively demanded by Mr Drumgold himself — alleged serious misconduct against him including that he withheld key information from the defence and lied to the Supreme Court.
In announcing his departure a defiant Mr Drumgold justified the “less than perfect” conduct with the demands of “intense and sometimes crippling pressure” and said he always acted ”in good faith”.
He said the findings were ”difficult to reconcile” with the trial judge’s “gratitude at the end of the case, for the exemplary way all counsel conducted the trial.”
“Although I accept my conduct was less than perfect, my decisions were all made in good faith, under intense and sometimes crippling pressure, conducted within increasingly unmanageable workloads,” he said in a statement to the Guardian.
“My career has been driven by a fire burning within, lit by an early life spent surrounded by the pain of chronic intergenerational social injustice.
“Unfortunately, I find the fire has been extinguished, and try as I might, I cannot reignite it.”
The findings were leaked to the media prior to formally being released, a move Mr Drumgold said denied him “procedural fairness”.
Among the most serious claims made by the inquiry was a finding that Mr Drumgold attempted to hide the “Moller Report” – a document which detailed police claims of discrepancies in Ms Higgins’ evidence.
Mr Drumgold’s response has been blasted by Mr Lehrmann’s defence lawyer Steve Whybrow who went up against him in the high-profile trial.
“Mr Drumgold’s statement seems to confirm what was blindingly apparent to the defence during the trial…that he saw himself more as a social justice crusader than an independent minister for justice,” he said.
“This apparent “end justifies the means” explanation for his conduct is frankly alarming coming from a DPP, a position which already wields so much opaque and unreviewable power over the lives of people who come into contact with the criminal justice system.”
His former client Mr Lehrmann also backed in the comments.
“This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, it is the very least that should happen,” Mr Lehrmann said.
“The response from the former Director is not acceptable, insufficient and not worth the paper it is written on. The ACT government now needs to show leadership and hold the ODPP to account. If they don‘t, I will.”
Mr Lehrmann has maintained his innocence and the single sexual assault charge was dropped following a botched trial.
Walter Sofronoff KC found Mr Drumgold to have lied to the Supreme Court over a note made about a meeting with presenter Lisa Wilkinson before she made a speech at the Logies in June 2022 – which resulted in the trial being postponed.
The report also found evidence of unethical conduct by Mr Drumgold, including his use of a note concerning a discussion he had with Wilkinson days before her speech.
Mr Sofronoff also found Mr Drumgold had improperly questioned Senator Linda Reynolds, the former boss of Ms Higgins and Mr Lehrmann, on the stand.”
You see, Dumgold’s weasel words are very revealing, they reek far-left sanctimony…….”“My career has been driven by a fire burning within, lit by an early life spent surrounded by the pain of chronic intergenerational social injustice. He’s just admitted that he’s not interested in truth or justice, NO, the only thing that concerns him is the politics, always has been, and that’s what drove him with the Lehrmann allegation. It was a disgrace that he was ever appointed DPP in the first place, but that’s the ACT for you. Dumgold is a f*cking disgrace but so is the ACT town council headed by that mediocrity Andrew Barr.

I thought Drumgold’s early life was made miserable by his drug addicted father, who utltimately committed suicide after the very sad death of one of Drumgold’s younger three year old twin brothers.
Drumgold complaining about being denied procedural fairness is just outrageous. The lack of self awareness is extraordinary.
Pressure (from who, exactly?) and unmanageable work loads?
Is that code for they put me in an untenable position by promoting me beyond my capabilities and legal action is called for.
Expat South Africans are highly thought of, in the West Australian Wheatbelt. They are prepared to live, where Australians don’t want to live, and they are prepared to do the work Australians don’t want to do – work on farms.
This is the last comment I’ve been able to view:
A nice cheery comment.
Now I wait till 15mins past 8 for the comments from the last hour.
When we “had the farm”, three expat South Africans were chatting on the two – way, one day. They thought speaking in Afrikaans provided security….the wages were rubbish, the machinery was crap, the boss was a slavedriver……
A joke did the rounds* circa late 80’s that South Africans were the new boat people. Been here a week and bought a boat.
*in Bondi not the wheatbelt.
Looks terminal.
but so is the ACT town council headed by that mediocrity Andrew Barr
and of course that miserable, mediocre abomination of a city is supposed to look after this nation’s interests ha ha.

Just on the transsexuals monstering women in contact sports. What’s wrong with clubs recruiting men to take them out? I played plenty of sports were individual players were recruited for a specific job. I’d happily have my sons identify as women for a weekend to match a bully transsexual to protect my daughters’ sport. Lola – stay away from the real girls but put a tight tag in the ‘girls’. See how long these ‘girls’ last.

P – Same with me. The blog refreshes each hour. Yesterday it was 15 minutes after the hour, today it was 8 minutes after the hour. I don’t know why the difference, maybe it is linked to when I accessed it this morning. But the hourly update is consistent. Eight minutes after the hour, all day today like clockwork.
I can’t see anything until the magical hour elapses. Nothing I try has gotten around it, it’s something in the WordPress software.

It took me about 30 minutes to join, timed out constantly.
After that, it works, but extremely sluggish, don’t know what the new server does, but it ain’t working.
SEVEN Noongars derailed that agreement for four years, claiming they weren’t properly consulted and demanding THIRTY BILLION dollars in compensation…I’ll bet good money that any attempt at any treaty will result in a similar legal dogfight.
The panel that appointed Drumgold should be held to account. Drumgold’s claim he is a victim looking to set justice on the right track is an obvious danger. FMD. The system should absolutely belt him. The idiots of the vic court of Appeal who failed Yr 11 legal studies re Pell didn’t pay any price, so I’m not holding my breath.
This is from Cassie this morning. The ABC is where Wilkinson will eventually surface. The ABC is now doing it routinely, employing journalists and personalities who have pissed off audiences at other media outlets. For examples see Karvelas, Stan Grant, Laura Tingle. I predict that Lisa will be welcomed by the ABC with open arms and will let fly at everyone on free to air TV.
A cornucopia of cute owls with a few specimens thrown in for good measure. Head prefect won’t be able to tell the difference but for discerning viewers discernment will bring its own rewards: cute owls.

My guess is that Wilkinson will end up as either a professor or adjunct professor of media studies at CSU, UTS or WSU. These people have no shame.

I get the same (sluggish that is) on the home page, but the OT is more or less fine. I’m hoping this has something to do with IP propagating as the website gets a new IP when it gets a new server but will be investigating in the morning.
I’m tending to think that the remaining problems are non-hardware as I just checked the RAM on the VPS and it is fine, not maxxing out as it was Thurs night.
About bloody time.

I’ll bet good money on that! Reconciliation? What’s that?
Yank lezzoes struggling to hit the side of barn against the Svedettes …
I mentioned here when the first reporting of Sofronoff came out that there were references to “defamation”, particularly in relation to AFP officers.
I don’t think Sofronoff is a man given to loose application of language, particularly words like “defamation” which have legal import.
I suspect he was saying that the DPP would have certain protections from that sort of litigation for things he says in court in the execution of his role.
But once he steps outside his remit as DPP and starts slagging the reputations of others, he can’t rely upon that protection.
Did Drambuie do any of that ” outside his remit”?
He got the junior to lie which impacted on Brucy.
Svedettes! 🙂

You know, if the Oz decided to cobble together the scribblings of Janet and Chris Merritt on this matter into a single book, I’d buy several copies for my lefty friends.
It was meticulous and tireless pursuit of this stinking mess right from the start.
But, but, won’t they simply vote just as their leaders tell ’em to?
Yes.
The day he announced that there would be no re-trial because his star witness Britnah was coming apart at the seams, he basically said Lehrmann was guilty.
Sofronoff suggested he had no legal basis to say or imply that and should have STFU.
So, yes, worth a look.
You must do these things! I brought sevral copies of Peter O’Brien’s “The Indigenous Voice to Parliament – the No Case.” I have presented said copies to various Lefties, and none of them are speaking to me!
I read some of the a bit redacted enquiry statements of a couple of the more junior prosecutors at the ODPP on the BOI website.
Some chatter about inappropriate comments from afp staff at training sessions.
More astounding was overheard conversations at the local coffee shop.
Oh and apparently when the tapes were handed over to Korn (first defender of Lehrmann) the officer mentioned Higgins texts would make interesting reading.
Lots of discussion about those phone downloads and what the defence should and shouldn’t get and then about flights and accommodation including whether the DPP would pay for Higgins to bring her dog down from Queensland.
Didn’t Drumgold call the afp Investigators ‘boofheads’?
youse need to listen to JC … this time, he really does know what he’s talking about
I mean when it comes to slagging other people’s reputations, he has years of experience.

You were given a well bred dog which was smart, but a little bit headstrong. It could have become a top class working dog, but you knew better than the expert training advice you were given.
But, all things considered, a good show.

One key indicator that the trend for Yes has more downside is his measure of the firmly committed “rusted on” level of each side.
“No” is sitting at a fairly solid 37% of people who say their mind is totally made up.
“Yes” is languishing on 21%.
It’s always a bit hard to tell with the “sport” of Soccer. They should just declare it “mixed gender” and be done with it. No one will notice the difference.
The more you think about it, the more this alleged rape saga is one of the most massively absurd events in Australian legal history.
1. The accusation ends up in court despite strong police protestations.
2. The case ends up being dropped after a mistrial
3. The prosecutor ends up being investigated, found to be a dishonest incompetent douchebag and ends up basically fired for acting like a disgraceful moron.
4. The current government hands over $3million dollars to the accuser.
As I said, the west is swarming with massive incompetence.

JC – this is what happens when “politics” is considered by a society to be something other than a bunch of obnoxious irrelevant vainglorious idiots* screeching interminably at each other about utter inanities.
Suddenly, even their grotty grotesque hangers-on are considered newsworthy by our beloved braindead lamestream meeja.

WA and Qld absolutely goneski.
“Yes” would need to reap 80% of undecideds to break-even in Tassie.
Vic is neck and neck.
NSW 45% yes, 42% no and 13% undecided.
SA 48% yes, 42% no and 10% undecideds.
Two things:-
1. This poll was taken over six weeks from 31st May to 15th July. Some of the data is two months old. If the trend is running against Yes, the snapshot today is likely far worse for the Yessers.
2. Redbridge “forced” the undecideds to choose in a second round. This broke heavily towards No. If that was repeated on the Newspoll figures, the Yessers might win SA and that is all.
