“Australia was part of [the] occupation, but they committed some of the worst and the brutal kind of human rights violations, by hacking fingers off dead bodies and killing farmers in Uruzgan and other provinces they were based,” Shaheen told Nine on Wednesday.

In a wide-ranging interview with Nine News, Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said Australian soldiers should be prosecuted for alleged war crimes committed during the occupation. He said his comments about alleged Australian war crimes were based on “media reports, on the interviews of the victims, all the evidence [is] there”.

Why would Channel Nine be invested in lending credibility to the enemy?

Hollywood has been chasing Chinese dosh for some time, with vast amounts of craven kowtowing. The fun thing is China is presently booting them out because kulcha:

Study: Hollywood’s Share of China Box Office Collapses, Now Less Than 10% (29 Aug)

In a dramatic turn for the major studios, Hollywood’s share of China’s box office is in free fall, reportedly collapsing to less than 10 percent as Beijing aims to bolster its domestic movie industry while continuing to block major Hollywood releases from playing in Chinese cinemas.

The result is a potential existential crisis for Hollywood, which has bent over backwards to please China’s Communist dictators in the hopes of maintaining access to the lucrative Chinese market.

Couldn’t’ve happened to a more deserving bunch of wokerati. In the West between the Coof and the Woke the numbers of bums on seats have collapsed, and the wretched crud these people have been producing means even streaming is not bringing in as much as it should. Which, during a year where people are stuck in their houses without anything to do, is amazing.

Calli:

Just had the saddest little video message from my six year old granddaughter – all she wants to do is sit on my knee for a “cuddle”. The little, thin face, the pallor from confinement in a unit, the messy hair, wistful voice. Heartbreaking.

Sitting outside Prince Charles Hospital on Monday, and a 3 year old in the matrimonial fruit basket – looking at the people as she passes, all of them with masks. Just a bewildered expression on her face.
The she sees Winston smiling at her and she breaks into a delighted smile, waving her pudgy fingers and leaning out of the pram and looking back at the Man With No Mask.
It’s a dreadful situation when my ugly old face brings a smile to a kiddie.

Nothing to do with children.

There is no way she is going to give up her current role as Mother Protector of Queensland; certainly not in exchange for doing a daily Gladys, wearily explaining that infection and death are part of life.

Suggest Ms Palaszczuk have a read of the latest from the National Centre of Immunisation Research and Surveillance.

Under-12s are increasingly catching COVID-19. How sick are they getting and when will we be able to vaccinate them?

A taste:

“Cases are on the rise among children in New South Wales, but to date this hasn’t been accompanied by a large increase in paediatric hospitalisations.”

And

“While the Delta variant is more infectious than other strains of the coronavirus, and more kids are becoming infected, there’s not a scientific consensus at this stage that it’s causing more severe disease in children.”

It’s all about “Herd Immunity” percentages. The article even infers it.

Two words which mean very different things, but which are used interchangeably by “medical experts”.
Infectious and Virulent.
The common cold is highly infectious, but not very virulent (if we are talking about fatalities).
The Delta variant seems to follow the immutable laws of coronavirus progression.
Virulence is inversely proportional to infection rate.

I hope parents take out class actions against dictatorial, authoritarian ( oxymoron?) leaders who induce anxiety in children. Firstly there are those who are going to be more genetically prone to suffering anxiety plus the added stresses of covid lockdown which will affect others .
One of major fears of kids is mum or dad dying , so first be told if you go out to play you will bring Covid home , followed by jab or die messages which will collectively work on young brains even though they may not be able to articulate it . Problem is no matter how parents try to allay their fears , constant messages from leaders and medical experts seep in .
It will be like the children of Holocaust survivors’ genes, epigenetically passed down , attachment interfered with and the long term effect of anxiety issues suffered by many.
As a meme I saw forecast today .If you think leaders are bad today wait till the present young are the leaders home schooled by alcoholic parents plus anxiety issues .

Swastikas and other hate symbols are set to be banned under new laws to be introduced in Victoria next year.

The Andrews Government on Thursday announced public display of Nazi symbols would become illegal in response to a parliamentary committee report that recommended the change in March.

It will be the first ban of its kind in Australia.

Anti-vilification laws will also be altered to include protections in areas such as sexual orientation, disability, sex and HIV/AIDS status.

This will include changes to make vilification easier to prove in civil and criminal cases.

Legislation to ban Nazi symbols will be introduced in the first half of 2022, with consultation to begin on possible exceptions such as for museums.

“All forms of hate are unacceptable and have no place in Victoria – expanding our anti-vilification laws to protect more Victorians sends a clear message that this vile behaviour will not be tolerated,” Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes said.

“I thank the committee and all those who participated in the inquiry for their work on these complex issues.

“Our new laws will build upon their efforts and we will make sure we consult widely with the community and impacted groups to get the settings right before making legislative changes.”

Opposition police and community safety spokesman David Southwick, who was also on the committee that proposed the ban, welcomed the news.

“It’s a great day for those that have suffered abuse and hate from the evil Nazi swastika,” he said.

“It is great to see Victoria leading the way on this.

“There is no other symbol like the Nazi swastika that has taken the evils of the past and been used in the present day.

“We’ve also seen an increase in white supremacist neo-Nazi groups that have sprung up, it’s really important to be able to disarm those groups to ensure we don’t have ongoing hate and violence in our state.

“Victoria has always been a multicultural state that has celebrated diversity.”

A parliamentary inquiry was sparked after a spate of incidents in which the swastika and other hate symbols were grafittied in public places, drawing widespread condemnation.

It also explored whether current anti-vilification laws were strong enough to protect against hate crime, and recommended topics such as sexual orientation and disability be included in this legislation.

In March, committee chair Natalie Suleyman said Victoria had racial and religious laws in place but questions had been raised over whether they were useful in stopping a trend of rising hate crime.

Planning is now underway on the best way to offer these increased protections.

Input will be sought from community groups as the government weighs up recommendations that will require current laws to be changed.

Two of my edged weapons would therefore be illegal, and presumably (legally) worthless under the new laws.

That is another thing.
“Epidemiologists” are not white lab coat “looking down a microscope at nano wriggler” types.
Epidemiology is (or should be) a discipline based heavily in statistics, which tries to explain or predict the spread of a disease.
Yeah, sure, it might include some human behavioural science in deciding what value to ascribe to some input variables.
But, when so-called epidemiologists resort to hyperbolic adjectives (“lightning speed” or “speed of light”) rather than numbers you know they got nothin’.
And when they start talking about the virus as if it is a sentient being (“sneaky”, “tricky” or “a wily opponent”) you know they have really jumped the shark.

The Curious Origins of Amnesty International

Great, long story that is VERY illuminating about a key part of the Long March through the Institutions.

Münzenberg perceived, almost intuitively, that societies experiencing the warm secular embrace of industrial modernity were afflicted by a critical depletion of that moral justification which is “one of our deepest needs, one of our most powerful and essential human drives, ignored at our cost and peril”. Lacking any formal knowledge of theology, history or sociology, he understood in practice the importance of “righteousness” in human life. Correctly perceiving the dearth of this definitive ingredient among the middle and upper strata of Western European society, he deployed his formidable propaganda machine to the task of producing a sufficiency of convincing, immaculate and soul-enhancing righteous causes to fill the vacuum.

Münzenberg correctly guessed that once a suitable cause had been hammered onto the public consciousness, it would not be difficult to lure his “innocents”—earlier and more brutally dubbed “useful idiots” by Lenin—to contribute their names, prestige and funds to well-organised “innocents’ clubs” manipulated into delivering the desired result by strategically placed activists, preferably not members of the Communist Party. Those invited to join and ostensibly to lead these organisations were invariably well-intentioned, socially respectable personages eager to play a constructive role in the struggle for social justice while satisfying their need for personal moral justification and “who had no idea that their consciences were being orchestrated by operatives of Stalin’s government”.25

Although probably making old-fashioned communists squirm with the placing of non-party members in the vanguard of policy, this approach proved very successful for raising funds and marshalling international support for the Spanish republic. Münzenberg’s propaganda machine portrayed the war as a Manichaean confrontation between the forces of good and evil; between Franco’s obscurantist fascist terror supported by Moorish, German and Italian mercenaries and levies and an enlightened, virtuous and democratic republic defended by idealistic young heroes from every corner of the globe. He convinced the rest of the world that the republic was a social democratic paradise where torture, arbitrary arrests and executions had been banned forever and which was now struggling to defend freedom, democracy, common decency and justice for the people of Spain.

The international campaign succeeded—Stalin’s reservations notwithstanding—mainly because it was carried forward on the shoulders of large numbers of non-party “fellow travellers” and “opinion makers”, journalists, artists, commentators, priests, ministers, academics and actors glad to be invited to stand up and be counted on the side of the Spanish republic.

Ulfilas has a lot to answer for.

lol. Ulfilas preached the Arian heresy, for those not up on their fourth century theology. This heresy regarded Christ as a god created by the Father, not an integral element of the Christian Father God as theologised in the Trinity. I suggest that this heresy made acceptance of Christianity easier for Germanic barbarians (of whom Goths were a variety) because it did not introduce cognitive dissonance with the old ideas of a pan-European father god (e.g. Odin/Lug). But of course it also opened the way for Christianity to encompass polytheism and maintenance of older European iron age beliefs, hence the Arian heresy was quickly denounced. Not quickly enough though, for it caused trouble throughout the fourth and fifth centuries as Gothic Arian tribes rounded on Roman Trinitarian ones. Gildas denounced it thoroughly in Britain, where due to only a limited Romanisation, it did well.

So Ulfilas nothing to do with Hitlerian ‘Aryans’ as such, although the pride of the old iron age tribes of Europe was visceral and exclusionary. That may have produced a racial identification as we see with the ancient concept of a Germanic ‘volk’, which was also transferred to Britain as ‘Saxon’ heritage.

All humans turn to metaphors to explain complexity. Epidemiologists are no different. Even very good epidemiologists will use metaphors, e.g. ‘a cascade effect’, ‘a cytokine storm’, ‘drilling down’ etc. But if they turn to metaphors the are hyperbolic then they have to come in with some solid back-up figures that support their emotive words.

If they don’t because they can’t, then we can say that they got nuthin’. 🙂

U.S. Supreme Court declines to block Texas abortion ban

WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court refused on Wednesday to block a Texas ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, dealing a major blow to abortion rights by leaving in place a state law that prohibits the vast majority of abortions.

The decision is a major milestone in the fight over abortion, as opponents have sought for decades to roll back access to the procedure.

By a 5-4 vote, the justices denied an emergency request by abortion and women’s health providers for an injunction on enforcement of the ban, which took effect early on Wednesday, while litigation continues.

One of the court’s six conservatives, Chief Justice John Roberts, joined its three liberals in dissent.

“Swastikas and other hate symbols are set to be banned under new laws to be introduced in Victoria next year.”

So watch NSW follow…..Customs House at Circular Quay has tiled swastikas at the entrance…the original Hindu swastika…it was built years before Hitler appropriated the symbol. Will that be torn apart?

This banning of “hate symbols” will do nothing to curb extremism. It’s virtue signalling…designed to distract from real issues.

We had a home visitor today from a Covid central black-spot. Supermarkets, he said as we had a general discussion, as you do, about what was open. You’ve got Supermarkets? Luxury! he declared. His in Fairfield was shut for a while. He was wearing a rather sodden mask home-made from some sort of soft-knit t-shirt material. He came right into our house to diagnose as terminal the problem with our washing machine. Hairy the Overloader kept in the background while I explained the problem technically: it was screetching metal against metal and going thump-thump on the wash-cycle. Our competent diagnostician opined that there is a crucial ‘iron rod’ deep in its tumbler innards which keeps the two drums apart and the cost in time and materials (when available from Italy) to pull the whole thing apart and replace it would run into double the cost of a new machine. So we spent the morning on the phone to arrange for a new one that would suit the space and do the job. One promised ‘steam’ but we thought that excessive. A basic newbie that will hopefully fit is being transported here tomorrow.

Then we got some black builder’s plastic 5 metres x 3 metres and draped it artistically over the lower garden just below the cliff in order to hose off into its welcoming mat the still shattering shards of shatter glass that fell when the tiler delivered a fatal blow to a balustrade in the way of his ambitions. These little glinting heaped up diamonds looked very pretty decorating the rock faces jutting from the cliff, but were likely to be a problem dug into the lawn. And there we were: Hairy halfway up the cliff on a ledge hanging on to thin air, hose in hand, and me breathlessly offering encouragement (over to your left a bit more etc) inbetween wringing my hands informing him he shouldn’t be doing this, he was too old for this sort of thing.

We had a late lunch and that’s taken care of most of another locked down day.
I see now that Dr. John Campbell’s latest vid, sent to me by my eldest son, says Covid is over.
It’s endemic, we’ll all get it, and we might as well get used to it.
Visitors from Fairfield notwithstanding.

Tom, on your visit to the Cairo-practer the other day.
I used to go to a physio in a town 50 kms away. Now there is a semi-retired bloke I go to in the little town which is within 5 kms.
OK.
Assume I wanted to stick with the guy 50 kms away because he knows my history and I trust him to fix my problem?
Am I bound under the Sutton jackboot to use the closer one?
It would be interesting to test that one.

If we’ve learnt nothing else in the last 18 months, it’s that stupid, unjust laws make criminals out of law abiding people.

I know you know this, but it was 1997, Howards gun laws, that law abiding people were made into criminals. But it was only those weird gun owners, who would let their own kids be gunned down so long as they still had there guns, so no one much saw it that way.

I did and exercised my privilege to get a firearms licence, but I still thought the law makers were ignorant and/or blinded by ideology, and that maybe reasoned argument could sway opinion. Ha!!!

The events since swayed my faith in that belief, but the “pandemic” response has wiped it away completely.

The decades of illogical public policies, especially around “climate change”, have conditioned the public to accept the ridiculous.

The pandemic response is so counter productive in terms of health and well being that there must be motivations other than incompetence and hubris driving it.

I lean towards a depopulation strategy as being that motivation.

Budgies!

Two encounters today. Second was during a short walk around nearby reserve hour ago: I was recognized by a willy wagtail. Not bad for a bird that small to pick out a single human.

The last couple times I’d walked that route I’d experimentally tossed him some tiny bits of mince, which he’d had a taste of. Such was the impression made he was hovering in front of me this time. So he got thrown some mince and was straight into it.

The first was this morning on a longer walk (exercise being one of the very few halal things in the current NSW caliphate). Spotted by the foreshore magpie tribe: fifteen of them came flying over. It was like a scene in a movie. And two kookas, one of which accepted a bit of mince from the hand for the first time. It was fun! Mince is seriously good stuff. Maybe I should put in a pitch to the Sacklers.

In passive-aggressive news this week, I note that the Grauniad published an article saying that the ‘spehsul’ body the ADF appointed to investigate Brereton cases is still active. And that the quiet dropping of administrative action against 13 serving SASR members don’ mean nuffink, Comrades!

I don’t get how my service, which could crash-action charges against a Section or so of Reservist Commandos in 2010 over a dead human shield child, could take the best part of 20 years (remembering they were telling us it could take up to another 9-10 years to fully investigate Brereton’s ‘credible evidence’ and recommend charges) to try and do the same against a Troop (or so)of SASR operators.

Has our capability been that badly eroded? Or are we just watching more Cathedral carry-on, like m0nty and the trollherd desperately defending the 2020 Steal and Lt Byrd in Washington DC?

Everyone involved in the Brereton report is just applying for their next job.
Off to the Hague or some related tax payer funded gig.
They don’t give a shit about the truth behind any of the SAS allegations.
It’s just so the decision maker can google what they did and see how the “investigators” put the SAS through the wringer.
That’s all they care about.

That was my assessment, too.

It just rankles. And confirms that the Australian bugman is far more incompetent and less capable that his American or UK counterparts.

After all, a number of US and UK servicemen actually went to jail (and subsequently pardoned and exonerated) over the lies and ambulance-chasing of the Comrades who ‘administered’ them.

Said bugmen’s failures and hubris were fully exposed to a hostile public. Ours, sadly, will continue to get away with it, thinking their mediocrity will protect them…

Min – Anything meaty probably. I buy Coles regular beef mince which has a good consistency out of the fridge, better than Woolies or IGA, although it gets a bit gooey after a while walking. I can live with that for my hobby.

It’s expensive these days though and doesn’t keep or freeze well. Maybe dog log is worth trying. A lady up the road uses that I think, but I’ve never tried it myself. May have to if the lockdowns continue as the mince stocks in my local Coles are getting shorter lately.

Park magpies might accept bread bits also – the foreshore bunch do, and did today, since they’re a group of hungry youngsters without territories. But meat is what they always prefer.

As to activist types who say it is bad for them, no that’s wrong. They supplement with plenty of natural stuff, in my experience. And the extra food lets them raise more chicks than otherwise. That’s certainly the case for my local noisy miners who mainly get cheap bread from me – yet have so propagated in the last several years that they’ve displaced most of the indian mynahs from my end of the suburb. Not only do they act healthy but I never even see orb spiders or coastal grey spiders anymore. They get eaten.

The standard choice used to be baseball bats. I don’t know if those can still be purchased.

I always have issues as to the choice between a driver (long reach, high angular momentum) and a wedge (better damage likely to result, but need to close in).

Golf clubs are better. Easier to swing fast and longer reach. How about darts? Wouldn’t knock ’em out but the shock would catch them off guard.

On ‘our’ ABC, a friend who is an Australian political history buff gave me some context. Nifty won the NSW election in 1976, only months after Whitlam’s massive rout in December 1975. How? By promising ‘moderate, competent government’. He was appealing to Labor’s record in NSW from 1941 to 1965 (and had some MPs from those years in his first cabinet) but, more importantly, he was openly repudiating the recklessness and self-indulgence of the leftist pseudo-intellectuals who hijacked the Whitlam government (remember Jim Cairns as treasurer?).

That is why the pissant leftist pseudo-intellectuals who are ABC’s target audience hate him: because he rescued Labor from the left. I am not ruling out corruption, by the way. It is quite possible. But it’s only a pretext for that sectarian propaganda organ for the Stalinist wing of the Greens that passes for our national broadcaster.

More surprising is that they have been prepared to sacrifice Murphy into the bargain. But the release of the papers form the parliamentary inquiry into his fitness to hold judicial office has destroyed whatever shreds remain of his reputation – unless you are Jenny Hocking.

Someone should ask Albo about this story. And Tony Burke.

Queensland school closed after unwell family refuse COVID test upon returning from Melbourne (2 Sep)

Queensland Health have raised concerns about the possible spread of COVID-19 in a Gold Coast school after it was revealed a family reportedly travelled illegally up from Melbourne.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath confirmed on Thursday a family of five authorities who live in Queensland arrived back in the Sunshine State about three days ago, according to police information.

The children attend the Australian International Islamic School, which Ms D’Ath said was how “we became aware that they had travelled illegally through backroads to get into Queensland.”

The family were required to enter 14 days of hotel quarantine, however, have so far refused to be tested for the coronavirus.

“Unfortunately the family have not agreed to be tested at this point so we do have to be careful and assume that they could be positive as some family members are unwell,” Ms D’Ath told the press.

And “the press” are going to be tippytoeing around it like cats on a lawn full of bindies. 😀

Even Sky Australia, whose story this is, is too coy to mention the unmentionable in their headline.
