Shortcomings involving loose morals (not manners)are in Austen the preserve of the outsider, the one revealed as born of questionable parentage, etc.
Not so. For example, even in Elizabeth Bennet’s family her sister Lydia was shown to have very loose morals indeed, running off to life in sin with Wickham without a thought for her own reputation or that of her family. She was definitely not of questionnable parentage.
Good and bad people are shown in all of the social strata that Jane Austen wrote about, as are happy and unhappy marriages.
Has fruit picking changed from piecework to per hour?
Yes, the changeover is in a few days.
And can workers now get onsite without an AWU ticket?
Unions have never been strong in fruit picking. There’s intense & brutal competition between the AWU & the NUW for the three fruit pickers who are in a union.
Although I suppose an AWU ticket is no protection against being ripped off – in fact it’s often a pathway to it (see Peanut Head, Cleanevent etc.).
Unions are not there to prosecute the interests of the members. Unions are for curating a political & policy agenda.

French presidental election: Macron attacks ‘pro-Russian’ Le Pen as race narrows
Charles Bremner, Paris
Thursday April 07 2022, 5.00pm BST, The Times
President Macron has depicted Marine Le Pen as a pro-Russian champion of antisemitism as he mounts a counterattack on the right-wing populist who is threatening his prospects of re-election.
After a lacklustre opening of his campaign, Macron has turned his fire on Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, casting her as a potential disaster for France and urging his team to expose her manifesto as dangerous and incoherent.
Without naming her, in keeping with his practice, Macron told le Figaro that Le Pen, 53, remained heir to an unchanged far right despite a softer image that has helped her rise to striking distance of him if they both go through to the April 24 run-off election.
“The fundamentals of the far right are always the same: attacks on and rejection of the Republic, a base of antisemitism — if not overt, at least cultivated — very clear xenophobia and an ultraconservative drive,” he said.
Macron, 44, who has lost his longstanding position of clear favourite, is implicitly fighting the second round in the assumption that Le Pen will emerge ahead of the ten other challengers on Sunday to face him in a repeat of their 2017 run-off. Macron leads the first round field with about 27 per cent of the vote while Le Pen has about 23 per cent, according to polls.
The president told his cabinet yesterday to avoid demonising Le Pen and focus on demolishing her manifesto. “We shouldn’t be in the moral register saying we’re heading for chaos if she’s elected. That’s not enough. We have to give priority to facts,” he said.

Marine Le Pen is too moderate of course. After the last two years, no leftist should be allowed to leave their home, vote, shop, work or raise their own (let alone anybody else’s) children. Still,, it’s good to see the Right on the ascendancy around the world even if they won’t use their power for anything other than to slow down the pace of civilization destruction.
At least, everywhere around the world except here it seems where we’re going to get full blown commie Albo as PM.

Was I supposed to interpret your cryptic half-sentences at the time and cynical nuffing to the effect of I’m sure THESE won’t be used against us differently?
I’m sorry Matrix, but the only time you like to make your meanings clear, is when you are either talking about something technical like building software and network architecture, or attacking somone you don’t like and want to make sure everyone knows about it.
For example, the media often mention the ultra-right regiment of Azov. Its founding year? 2014. Date of Russia’s attack on Ukraine? 2014. The current rise of the Ukrainian nationalist and far-right movements is to large extent caused by Russia’s expansive aggression.
The ultra right parties have been operating in Ukraine before 2014. During and following the US-supported coup in 2014, they used these far-right militias as muscle during the Maidan protests, and then weaponized them during the fall-out in 2014/5, especially in areas which large Russian speaking populations that did not look on the events during Maidan favorably. There was no Russian aggression in Mariupol, for instance, even though the locals would have welcomed their presence in 2014. Then those same locals had their arses kicked by Territorial Defense Units and what would become Azov when they returned in the months following the coup.
Officially formed in May 2014, from a number of smaller hard-right nationalist activists and organisations who had indeed fought and killed pro-Russian separatists in Kiev around the time of Euromaidan. And were appreciated by Kiev’s police for their vigilante work in patrolling and pacifying areas of the city they could not deal with themselves.
As always, the Narrative (in this case Ermagerd! Ukro-Nastis Everywhere! Get ’em, Vlad Bae!) has a kernel of truthiness around which layers of prejudice, partisan propaganda, urban legend and outright bullshit accrete.
AEMO doesn’t give a shit about Eraring closing ahead of schedule. Taylor does but since he doesn’t have a dick he won’t do anything about it even if he does remain in government:

Lizzie and Cohenite, I checked p and p but not s and s and found I had things all wrong about who in Austen had what morals, more particularly with regard to Lydia who was not really an interloper in the family. For one reason or another, in my readings there was in Austen a tendency to attribute moral weakness to lesser beings (although the elopement in p and p was not quite immoral). I have never seen any of the Austen films and doubt, in fact I’m pretty sure, I’ll never go back to rereading Austen. In which case I shall accept that the overtones from my readings are badly out of tune with those of others who have richer appreciations of the texts. Sadly, I have always known that.

Just an observation on big fat Clive’s two policies I mentioned earlier.
2. the repatriation of all Australian portfolio investment overseas.
Clive said that there was around 3 point something trillion dollars in Australian superannuation investments and he wanted to see $1 Trillion invested in Australian businesses, so he wasn’t calling for the repatriation of ALL overseas investments. You’re right to criticise this policy though, fund trustees should be free to invest anywhere to get the best returns for the fund’s members, trustees once had to follow what’s known as the 20/30 rule which meant that they had to have 30% of a fund invested in government securities, it was Keating who got rid of that rule.
The government should only involve themselves in ensuring that the legislative framework is such that Australian businesses can flourish, nothing else.
I was hoping that he would expand on the tax reduction plan for people who lived more than 200 kms from capital cities, but that didn’t get a mention. It sounds like a good idea, it would encourage decentralisation and act towards stabilising home prices in the capital cities.
Something else he touched on but didn’t expand on was the 40 year wait for the new subs, and how the US Navy has just mothballed some perfectly good LA Class submarines. When Abbott was PM he was toying with the idea of leasing them and borrowing the crews to train our blokes, that idea was jettisoned when Turnbull took over unfortunately.
Anyone supporting that fat clown’s policies should be embarrassed from now on.
Nope, not embarrassed, I can’t find anything particularly praiseworthy in the Liberal Party’s economic performance.

He told the court that if no significant hurt had been caused to the mining magnate or the Premier, then nominal damages would be awarded.
He said it would be “the Australian equivalent of a farthing”, later suggesting it could be $10.00.

They scan your boarding pass anyway, though dunno why, as they don’t do anything about a reminder.
The first clue I got was when the boarding gate telephoned me to say I’d better hurry up or I’d be staying in Briz.
Went all the way through the Q-club, along the concourse, through the boarding gate, onto the bus out to the aircraft, boarded & settled in my seat, without anybody in authority noticing commenting that I’d completely forgotten to wear a mask.
Realised only when the hostie gave the pre-flight briefing, & got to the part where “masks must be worn at all times aboard the aircraft and in the terminal building”

There was no Russian aggression in Mariupol, for instance, even though the locals would have welcomed their presence in 2014.
How do you possibly know this?
Then those same locals had their arses kicked by Territorial Defense Units and what would become Azov when they returned in the months following the coup.
In a low tech war, I have to assume the winning side has the numbers.
So how is it an unpopular, put-up coup if it is popular?

From the Afrikaans. Translation “The Labor Party know their place – it just hasn’t been dug yet.”
Serious question – why can’t we just translocate half of the antarctic and arctic wild animal populations, a 50/50 swap?
Couldn’t we “rehouse” Snow Leopards in parts of the Antarctic? Or the very south of South America? Or the Andes?
Salmon and Trout couldn’t live in the Antarctic?
Three points:
1. We have done worse.
2. They’re not carp, rabbits, foxes, kikuyu or european perch.
3. The precautionary principle would ban zoos and breeding programmes if they did not exist.
If I may have allegedly been one of many here who happened to get very cross with you about this statement of utter falsity:

Then chin up, Squire. The UKRs are either so stupid that they included an Azov chap when Zelensky addressed the Greek parliament, or they have more sway behind the scenes then ‘truthiness’ would suggest. Either way, its difficult to airbrush them out of UKR politics.
Salmon and Trout couldn’t live in the Antarctic with a 15% foreign GST…?
err, Pol, this is of any relevance to the many taxation complaints being aired here?

Then after walking into the “polling place”, it’s crude representations of genitalia on the ballot paper time.

Fair enough, but I reckon it needs to be at least 500km.

I hope Le Pen wins, but the election will be rigged by the WEF.
Not so. For example, even in Elizabeth Bennet’s family her sister Lydia was shown to have very loose morals indeed, running off to life in sin with Wickham without a thought for her own reputation or that of her family. She was definitely not of questionnable parentage.

1. Anthony Albanese
2. Tony Burke
3. Kristina Keneally
4. Penny Wong
5. Sarah Hanson-Dung
6. Lidia Thorpe
7. Adam Bandt
And that’s just a smidgen of various leftist scum who I might enjoy scaring the living daylights out of by smashing an egg on their head but you see I wouldn’t because….
1. I don’t like, approve of or celebrate political violence. I don’t wish violence on my political opponents or enemies. I prefer to talk, discuss and debate.
2. Political violence is wrong, I thought we were a democracy with some civil debate but that civility is slowly disappearing and it isn’t my side of politics that is to blame for this, the simple fact is that the increase in violent rhetoric and violent actions is coming from the left.
Lizzie, I’ll check later, for I’m not sure that the sister Lydia was the sister she was thought to be, or supposed to be; rather something of an interloper in the family. The ultra right parties have been operating in Ukraine before 2014.

Typical of your kind – all bluster and “look at me, I’m so selfless, look what I did for everyone else, why didn’t they all do the same, why didn’t they help me be good – they must be evil, I should hate them, I will hate them, I do hate them, they deserve it”.
It’s OK though – it’s everyone else that’s wrong.
They’re all stupid and you’re so smart.
Sure.
If you say it enough, it has to be true.
Doesn’t it?
Isn’t it?
Sure.
Just relax – the most important person in the world still loves you.
You.
So you’ll be fine.
And that’s all that matters, right?

Chris Dawson will stand trial for the murder of his wife Lynette after Australia’s highest court dismissed an application for the matter to be struck out.
The former professional rugby league player and teacher is accused of killing his wife Lynette 40 years ago following her 1982 disappearance from Sydney.
A last-ditch effort by his lawyers to have the case permanently halted was dismissed by the High Court on Friday.

Now that will be an interesting trial.

Re: Airports.
Been through Brisbane in the past coupla weeks. All the shops there seem to have changed their attitude & now will accept cash.
The Qantas Club did not refuse me entry, wasn’t remotely interested in sign-in, just wanted to see proof of vax & pretended to not notice I hadn’t “checked in”
They scan your boarding pass anyway, though dunno why, as they don’t do anything about a reminder.
(Signs everywhere threatening fines, with “no exceptions” etc etc.)
I’m a braindead vacuous spittle flecked* collectivist corruptocrat personage who’s really into fighting torries. It’s what I do, it’s what I do …

Quite frankly, Cats – never again. 🙂
I’ve seen the aftermath of the great Socialist experiment in three countries, Albo. You want a fight, you’ve got one.
Incidentally, if a man who owns four rental properties isn’t a Tory, who is?
Oh.
Sorry. Remiss of me.
Gooood evening lurkers!
Gee, more and higher taxes, leavened with daily outbursts of indescribable and unquantifiable idiocy, I asks ya? 😕
Speaking of which, here’s St. Supercouch earlier today:
St. Ruth,
If you think you – or anyone out there in Internet Land – needs to get in contact with anyone, please feel free. Fill yer boots. Go your hardest. Stern letters of complaint. Hans Blix letters, as someone termed them yesterday.
Also, make sure you return and let me know how you went. My old boss, Sergeant Tom Croydon at Mt. Thomas will be glad to hear from you. Again.
Boatless screeching non-entity.
If, oh, what was his name, who lived in a haborside mansion, and left a 20 Million dollar estate isn’t a Tory, who is?
Oh, sorry, yes, his name was Bob Hawke.
Fact:
Albansleazy – an alleged man, has enriched himself during the duration of his pointless existence by riding on and hoovering from the gravy laden corruptocrat train. To the tune of many millions of dollars.
Fact:
A braindead bunch of idiots with the collective memory of a goldfish are about to elect the aforementioned imbecile the head of the next monstrous clown show goat rodeo venezualenesque banana republic junta misgoverning this continent.

Oh, sorry, does that make me a Tory?
Mentioned once before. A very interesting character I worked alongside once on mine sites was ex-young ALP. Albo was so disliked he had allies not friends.
We are about to get this good and hard….

How do you possibly know this?
In a low tech war, I have to assume the winning side has the numbers.
So how is it an unpopular, put-up coup if it is popular?
From the Afrikaans. Translation “The Labor Party know their place – it just hasn’t been dug yet.”
Look.
If the alt right were not born as white males (and autistic NEETs), they’d be bread tube commies.
It’s just arguing over who gets to wear the jackboots and who eats mouldy bread in the gulag.
“I’m a loser but I’m white so I can’t be a commie, they’re jews!”
Well yes, but why would we give them to China?
With a 15% foreign GST…
Actually we could sell the fishing rights. This would offend people who support export levies!
Hey, “Digger”
If I may have allegedly been one of many here who happened to get very cross with you about this statement of utter falsity:
Then chin up, Squire. You’re always welcome to blunder on back in here with another equally ridiculous statement attempting to defend our beloved Gliberals and National Agrarian Socialists (led as the latter are by this inspirational Hollyweird yapdog fondling beetroot resembling personage) that constitute a “coalition”.
Quite frankly, you and your ilk being rightfully condemned to the deepest, darkest and most toasty recesses of Hell will never suffice for the pain of those Ozzies conned into wasting their precious votes on you and your ilk.
Enjoy eternal damnation, you irredeemable imbeciles. May you be intimate with Geriatric Joe, for ever. 🙂
The UKRs are either so stupid that they included an Azov chap when Zelensky addressed the Greek parliament, or they have more sway behind the scenes then ‘truthiness’ would suggest. Either way, its difficult to airbrush them out of UKR politics.

err, Pol, this is of any relevance to the many taxation complaints being aired here?
Remember peoples – when you front up at the polling booth very shortly, you might want to say this to the labore and greenfilth spruikers: “More and higher taxes is not ‘tax reform’, I tells ya”.
Then after walking into the “polling place”, it’s crude representations of genitalia on the ballot paper time.

Grate work, Digger.
You’ve done well, Squire. The inadvertent block quote fail, leavened with the subsequent mouth foaming is a wonderful touch. 🙂

They’ll stay right up to the point we start sending out letters ‘inviting’ them to register for the call up. Then watch them scarper.
I wonder if the 3 million or so border crossers have taken that scenario into consideration in the US?
This morning I watched a video that explained the current power struggle in the US isn’t a war between Left and Right, instead, it’s a class war. The Left/Right friction is just to hold our attention.
On reflection, I have to agree with it.
