I thought the high cost of processing here made meat unaffordable in places like Indonesia, which also doesn’t have the capacity to store chilled or frozen meat.

Quite correct, rosie. The cost of processing meat here is four to five times that of overseas, and, yes, countries like Indonesia don’t have the capacity to store chilled meat.

ARK Invest

On episode XXIX of “In the Know,” (May 20, 2022) ARK CEO/CIO, Cathie Wood, is joined by Nancy Lazar, Piper Sandler’s Chief Global Economist. Indonesia has a significant number of jobs in feedlots & the slaughter supply chain. They do not want pre-slaughtered meat under any circumstances.
1. It costs more, much more.
2. It would destroy an entire domestic industry & tens of thousands of jobs.

If Australia does not supply, they’ll get it somewhere else, perhaps from somewhere that has Foot & Mouth disease.

Soros at Davos

Soros Warns ‘Civilization May Not Survive’ Putin’s War

Billionaire George Soros warned that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has rattled Europe and could be the start of another world war.

“Other issues that concern all of humanity — fighting pandemics and climate change, avoiding nuclear war, maintaining global institutions — have had to take a back seat to that struggle,” Soros, 91, said Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “That’s why I say our civilization may not survive.”

This from someone who’s done his considerable best over decades to bring it all crashing down.

I can’t remember the last time an organ of the government forced an industry into becoming a cartel.

APRA already forced the individual company funds out of the market and into industry funds or master trusts in the early 2000s through increasingly onerous compliance and qualifications requirements.

the current situation in Sri Lanka makes this an easy decision. Still I don’t think anyone should be forced to live in Queensland.

So Jim Chalmers was only yesterday turning back a boatfull of illegals as proof that Labor would control the borders. Yet today he’s saying that not deporting illegals to the same country is necessary or something? Obviously the two sides of his brain don’t talk to each other. Or he’s speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

Texas Governor Abbott passed six laws last year relaxing gun regulations. The NRA is set to move its HQ to Texas. This massacre is entirely on the gun lobby.

China Eastern Crash: Life Tragedy & Retaliatory Action of the Co-Pilot/Wall Street Journal’s Report

On May 17, the Wall Street Journal exclusively reported that, according to preliminary U.S. assessments, flight data from the black boxes has suggested that someone in the cockpit of the plane of China Eastern Airlines was responsible for the crash in March 2022.
The Boeing 737-800 was artificially set to a nosedive and crashed. This report has confirmed the suspicions and speculations from the general public since the end of March and brought the Eastern Airlines plane crash back into the public eye.

The gun lobby is responsible for the massive proliferation of guns in America. I don’t care if the shooter was a card-carrying NRA member or not, the gun lobby is to blame for the easy access to guns that the shooter took advantage of. 14 kids are dead, that is a fact.

There is no defending this morally, just as there was no defending Sandy Hook. The only choice is whether to ignore it or not. The gun lobby successfully prevented action after Sandy Hook, they will no doubt be working furiously to keep enabling the next school shooting. They don’t care about kids, they just want the money.

There was a CNC machine shop in California where the employees came in after hours and had a nice sideline in making sub machine guns.

There will be ‘The Gillard’, which will have a klaxon like horn and a massively roomy boot. You can have any colour you like as long as it is Gingerella red (mostly red but grey where the seams of the panels and doors are – like hair roots)

The will ‘The Rudd’. The cabin will feature space for four people to sleep, a small kitchenette and larder. It will be insulated with tinfoil which will be connected to the battery. It will be worth $10,000 but the price will be $150,000 to stimulate the economy.

For those with a taste for more stately things there will be ‘The Gough’. A massive ornate vehicle with gold fittings, tasselled blinds for the windows, Corinthian leather interior – the lot. Sure, when you drive it oil leaks out in a steady stream and the engine will sound like the it was built from a mix of spare parts for a VW and a steamboat, the climate control will be stuck on ‘hot’, and it will grind to a halt after about 300m. It is then towed home, put in the garage, and people from all around to rhapsodise about what wonderful days they were when the Gough was running – but being very careful never to suggest driving it again. Just like the real Gough who was careful not to make too many public statements in his waning years for fear of drawing attention to the disfunction he actually created.

Across five years, Operation Fast & Furious involved a total of guns amounting to about four days’ worth of US-Mexico gun smuggling, a tiny drop in the ocean. It was an attempt to take down the crime cartels that are exploiting the NRA’s lax American gun law regime. It failed, but it was trying to do something about the problem that the American gun lobby caused.

Actually there was action after Sandy Hook.

A friend of mine has lived all her life (except for university years) in or within about 10 minutes from Newtown Connecticut. She said that after the Sandy Hook shooting the woke community realised what a fuckup their “guns are bad so we shouldn’t have guns because guns are bad so we shouldn’t have guns…” policy had been. They reversed their previous ban on school security guards having guns. The schools have been safe since.

Lott talks specifically about the Texas school shooting by the alleged gang member:

A shooting at a Texas elementary school left 14 children and one teacher murdered. While about 30% of school districts in Texas 2020 had armed teachers and staff, unfortunately, the Robb Elementary School in the Uvalde, Texas CISD doesn’t appear to be one of them. Their firearm regulations are detailed here. There are no provisions in their regulations for teachers or staff to carry.

Unfortunately, as we found in our 2019 study, despite 20 states allowing teachers or staff to carry guns, all the school shootings have occurred in schools that don’t allow them to carry. From the abstract of our study.

Most movie goers and critics regard The Magnificent Seven as a classic western, but it bombed in the US when released in 1960. Some think this was because the film’s ending depicts the gunfighters as losers, even though they won the gunfight with the bandits, with the young gun Chico (Horst Buchholz) opting to settle down with a village girl rather than becoming a gun for hire.

With the prevalence of guns in the US, all businesses, schools etc. which have large concentrations of persons should allow persons properly trained in firearms to carry a fireman on their person. Whilst it would not guarantee a mass shooting wouldn’t occur, it does act as a significant deterent.

It is no solution to say we should have gun control. There are too many firearms distributed throughout the US and too many copy cats wanting to have their day in the sun so they can end theirs and others lives. There wouldn’t be many volunteers in law enforcement or the armed forces to enforce gun control. It is a bit of a death wish to go from home to home to collect. Eventually your number would be up. Those wanting to kill would get a gun any way.

Also what is causing young single men do this? It wouldn’t surprise me if this young man had no father or father figure around to guide him through life.

The ScoMobile was apparently recalled for problems with the emission management system.

This motoring writer points to the convenience of such an excuse when the car, though promising good performance, seemed underpowered and only good for short suburban commutes.

Very few ScoMo’s were ever seen in the bush under harsh environmental conditions.
When pressured the car would make odd noises and the handling was atrocious.

Though apparently fitted with lane management, the car would veer left without warning and stay out on the green verge no matter how hard you tried to correct course.

Early sales were good but the poor performance of the ScoMobile saw interest rapidly fall away. If you see this model advertised anywhere, don’t buy. If you do then my prayers are with you.

Mostly speculating here, not having done any study but instead having tried winnowing the wheat from the chaff in news reports.

I would guess one of the reasons gun crime is so common in the inner cities is partly a sense of injustice in poverty, and also partly the impersonal existence that cities can promote. Democrat cities stoke the sense of injustice everyway they can and at every chance.

I think also that not only does the impersonal space that people inhabit make it easier to kill a stranger, but it actually makes it possible to hate enemies more strongly than you could if you lived in a more community based setting where your enemy is also nevertheless connected to you.

Governments might enact laws that reach all the way into people’s closets, but they have no means to actually look into and police those closets. The laws only work on the people who are normally law abiding and don’t need to be policed.

Republican run cities may spend less time antagonising social groups – although there are always Democrats lurking around in the sewers, in the alley ways, in the dumpsters etc. And they will be hissing their poisonous words in targeted areas so I imagine the inner cities will still have a strong Democratic influence on the world views of its denizens and, to be brutally honest, that means Black communities which the Democrats have long used to foment unrest. All that violence and crime is just post-natal abortion. They have long promoted the other kind among the Black population.

But further to this I think people who are brought up with guns, or who are trained with guns perhaps for hunting or sport (I would think predominately rural communities) have reflexes built into them. They don’t see a gun as something to kill people, instead learning the primary rule is that you never take any chance with another person’s wellbeing. They will have heard cautionary tales and, when young enough, been clipped around the ear for carelessness. They would have a better idea as to what a gun can do. They will have any number of reflexes that stop them firing that they would have to overcome.

City people would think of guns as weapons to fire at people. They have seen the movies, they have seen how the good guy wins. They think all will play out like it does in the movies. This is probably where most Australians are at.

And, sadly, Black Gangsta culture (it is not the old men and women in their apartments or the single mums dressing their kids for schools or the middle-aged man putting in his hours at the meat-packing plant) glorifies gun violence specifically because it is anti-social and becomes more attractive as more laws are applied. The gun violence is part and parcel with the distorted alpha-male posturing with multiple ‘hos’, the shirking of responsibility when they get a woman pregnant, the violent drug-fueled hedonism, and the false promise of invulnerability instilled by their music if only they are ‘bad’ enough.

But it is all NRA to Mongty.

They assert that their statistical techniques are superior.
Among their grounds for asserting that their techniques are superior are further assertions, unsubstantiated, that some of Lott’s results are improbable, or “bizarre”.
I.e. they make value judgments about Lott’s results and use the value judgments as a basis for pseudo-scientific claims that their methodology is more rigorous.

There are many people who agree with Lott—especially in the fields of criminology and economics. But it appears the majority of researchers who work in the field say Lott’s wrong: that his analyses are misleading, that they skew data to favor certain outcomes, and that his research methods don’t stand up to scrutiny. If they did, his critics say, Lott would still be published in academic journals, or doing his research out of a university instead of a non-profit called the Crime Prevention Research Center.

The problem is not GFZs, it’s that people can acquire guns easily then enter them.

It is impossible to enter a ‘gun free zone’ if there are not any gun free zones.

And there’s the Independent.
Available in teal, or if you don’t like teal, it’s available at an other Independent dealer a couple of suburbs over, also in teal.
Single seater, made only from locally sourced organic renewable or recycled materials, best suited to ardent right wing corruption fighters and climate champions.
Three years very limited warranty, after that, it implodes.

This site analyses it further etc etc

In fact, TE, the article you linked to comprehensively destroys John Lott and his cherry-picked data. Good link.

We must never be out of sight of a gun! A gun in every room of every building!

Listen to yourself Salvo, you have swallowed the gun lobby propaganda wholesale. What they want is to pump up gun sales. We don’t have to listen to them.

It’s funny how you lot are all against corporate lobbying when it’s for causes you disagree with, like Mike Cannon-Brookes, but when it’s politics you can align yourself with you’re all in for Big Gun.

That legal environment which enables school shootings is known as a “Gun Free Zone”

The problem is not GFZs, it’s that people can acquire guns easily then enter them.

And do they acquire those guns legally or illegally? Chicago has very strict gun control laws, but is awash with illegal guns. How do even stricter gun control laws stop that?

Or, maybe build a wall along the Mexico/US border, to restrict the opportunities to import illegal guns? Nah, munty would reply, that’s simple Trumpism!

Utopia? Plays footy for a lifestyle?

A MAN has been sentenced to three months behind bars after hitting his partner with a weapon in Central Australia.

Daniel Ngwarai Jones will spend three months behind bars after being charged with aggravated assault and engaging in contact that contravenes a domestic violence order.

According to a statement of facts read out in the Alice Springs Local Court, Jones struck his partner with a stick on the leg in May after they got into a heated argument.

The assault resulted in the victim calling police, who noticed signs of bruising and swelling. The victim told police that felt pain as a result of the attack. The assault with the weapon took place inside the victim’s home in Utopia, Northern Territory.

Later that same day, an NT police officer found Jones inside the bedroom of the same house where the assault took place and he was arrested.

Judge Greg Borchers said there was no option but to send Jones to jail.

“I accept that you’re very remorseful,” Judge Borchers said. “I suspect that the remorse is about yourself, not about your partner because you are about to lose your liberty.”

Jones has expressed that he wishes to dedicate his time to playing football when he is released.

Judge Borchers also said Jones hit the victim over a trivial matter and that his experience playing football could have given Jones the idea of how to hurt the victim.

“You play footy, you don’t work,” Judge Borchers said.

“You occupy your life playing footy and the manner in which you have hit your wife would indicate some form of knowledge about how to do this, to strike her to the leg.”

Pretty sure gun sales are already pretty darn good.
Monty on other hand not knowing anyone who isn’t green left progressive can’t envisage ordinary American who take their constitutional rights seriously and have always owned guns.
My friends in the south and the Midwest of the US certainly do.

In the US every time the Democrats do something stupid firearm and ammunition sales skyrocket.

Maybe if the Democrats stopped doing stupid things people wouldn’t feel a need to buy firearms.

OTOH if the Democrats stopped doing stupid things they’d be righties, so that there is the problem.
