Yes. Toyota believe that electric is one solution, not ‘the’ solution and for what its worth, I think they are correct. They are having a very serious look at hydrogen and have invested a lot of money in that area.
Similarly, other Japanese manufacturers are also deep into fuel cell research (plus a few others in Europe). The broad consensus among them seems to be that the sheer number of lithium mines and processing facilities (not to mention nickel, graphite etc) that are needed in the next 10-15 years is almost impossible to achieve.

Jeez that’s harsh. An offence that ALLEGEDLY occurred 40 years ago and for the next year or so, the defendant has to report to police every day (!) and is subject to a curfew.

Will they overturn the international price guarantee given to oil and gas companies, by legislation, in the 80’s and 90’s?
If they proceed I think we will need a bigger Supreme court as the legal challenges will go on for many years, long after Labor are gone.

Here’s the thing: in QLD’s case it’s been estimated by the Energy Minister’s own department that we’ll require 3 times our current generating capacity by 2030 if we’re to “decarbonise” and power economic growth. But there aren’t enough renewables projects in the pipeline at present to achieve that expansion of supply, let alone replace what will be taken out of the system before then as coal fired generators are retired or closed.

Elon Musk announces Twitter mass layoffs to begin Friday
…
All employees will receive an email on Friday, the notice said. Those who will keep their jobs will get an email to their work account, those being laid off will receive a notification to their personal email. Employees were reminded not to disclose “confidential company information” on social media or with press.
The layoffs come as Musk was speculated to cut as much as 50% of Twitter’s workforce, just days after becoming the head of the company he purchased for $44bn. That could mean thousands of jobs lost, as the company had more than 7,000 employees at the end of 2021 according to a regulatory filing.
Twitter said in the email to employees that its offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended in order “to help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data”.

Another not guilty. From The Telegraph….
Max Cleary: jury acquits man of rape charge
A jury has delivered a not guilty verdict in the rape trial of a Sydney landscaper whose father was a former Manly Sea Eagles CEO and an esteemed Catholic school headmaster.
A jury has found a Sydney landscaper whose father was a Manly Sea Eagles CEO not guilty of raping a woman he met on a dating app.
Max Cleary, 25, was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in respect of allegations he digitally penetrated a woman and then had sex with her without her consent on his friend’s bathroom floor on August 15, 2020.
Cleary, who had remained steadfastly collected during the trial, was in floods of tears after the verdict was read aloud at Downing District Court. Loud gasps of relief, followed by tears, emanated from his family. From the dock, Cleary turned to his famous father and nodded slightly with a smile as his gathered family hugged one another. Outside the courthouse, Cleary made a purposeful exit away from what was, as Judge Nicole Norman said, an “emotionally high” nine-day-long proceedings, but did say it was “great” to hear the not guilty verdict and he was “feeling good”.
He had pleaded not guilty to both charges and maintained their sexual encounter was mutual and consensual – and that he had bought condoms at the woman’s request.
The jury took about six hours to deliver their not guilty verdict.
There was no dispute the Manly landscaper and the woman had met on dating app Hinge, met in person for the first time at Kuleto’s cocktail bar in Newtown, then retired to his friend’s Camperdown home afterwards.
There was also no dispute they had sex on his friend’s bathroom floor.
Cleary consistently denied raping the woman, saying in his evidence they were “both active participants” in the sexual act and that he had ducked out to buy condoms at 7/11 at her request.
However, the woman had maintained she had pushed Cleary away, shook her head and said “no, no, no” before he raped her, then put her in the shower.
She then booked an Uber and went directly to Ashfield police station to make a complaint.
Early in the trial, the jury saw harrowing footage of the woman dropping to her knees as she entered the police station, dropping her head to her hands.”
Note how the journalist added the descriptor “esteemed Catholic school headmaster”? Now what this has to do with the price of fish I’ll never know but it’s just another case of the MSM smearing Catholics and Catholicism and trying to tie both to any sordid scandal or trial. Disgraceful. Anyway, well done to the young Mr Cleary, let’s hope he can move on with his life and not be bitter (although I wouldn’t blame him). I’d also like to offer him some free advice, firstly, there are nice decent girls out there; secondly, don’t meet and have sex with girls on a dating app; thirdly, if you do choose to meet girls on a dating app, why not get to know the girl first, wait some months and then maybe have sex; and finally, try not to have sex on a bathroom floor, not very comfortable.
None of this is rocket science.
I think that was the last decent program the ABC produced.
Maj. Les Hiddins was fun, enjoyed those shows.
Far past now. The Tele has a guy who poses pop culture questions – he had a ‘who is this?’ question last week with photo. Hiddins, instantly recognizable, but probably not to anyone under the age of forty.
I was encouraged to join the army from watching Bush Tucker man.
They’ve been trying this for a long time, but my impression over about 30 years of watching is Saudi doesn’t have very much in the way of prospective ore deposits.
I’ve flown over the Arabian Peninsula and spent a small amount of time in the Persian Gulf states. Plenty of rocky mountains in amongst the miles of sand dunes where I suspect there would be mineral deposits. Honestly I don’t know too much about it, my time in that part of the world was transiting to the ‘stans. Biggest problem with the Saudis is the nepotism, corruption, that comes from someone I met who worked for Aramco both with US then Saudi administrations. I’d imagine any joint venture would be loaded to the hilts with connected Saudi employees that do nothing but get in the road. Then there’s the way the Saudis just change agreements at a whim, the guy I knew working for Aramco had a guaranteed pension in GBP under the US that was dumped by the Saudis for a lump sum payout. The stickler is muslim employees weren’t touched even if they weren’t Saudi.
I’d imagine there is a lot more problems like this to get over before any western company becomes interested. Adam Piggott just did a stint there, he’d be the man to ask.

Speedy – It was real, I was a friend of one of the writers. They worked closely with the RAN, and drew from RAN history – especially the Australian corvettes of WW2. Those small ships did astounding work.
Because they were children when they were taken over, the oldest at the time was only 12, they were Australian citizens, both their parents were dead, their two little brothers were dead, and they had an Australian grandmother who wanted to take care of them.
And if they’ve been radicalised?
Roger – After. Speedy means Sea Patrol.
“And if they’ve been radicalised?”
They wouldn’t be any different to thousands of muslims who never went to Syria.
I’m not going to make predictions about the future terrorism of children, especially those aged 3 2 and 1 when they left that hell-hole.
Question – what’s wrong with waiting to have sex?
Answer – nothing.
I was encouraged to join the army from watching Bush Tucker man.
You musta been easily impressed.
He came across as a First Grade cockhead, the show was contrived, it was sent up by Russell Coight years later.
Never saw Sea Patrol, but if it was half decent I’d wonder if it wasn’t produced independently and purchased by the ABC to meet local content drama requirements.
You’re not wrong Cassie.

Roger – SHY is known as Sarah Sea Patrol from an infamous effort in Senate Estimates, I think it was. The series is Nine not ABC, and ran for quite a while.

A series on TV was …. made up! …I tells yas!!!!
Shock and horror.
Mate, no Case has ever gone to War, and i’m upholding that record.
The closest was probably Great Uncle Arburthnot Case, he was on a Troopship bound for New Guinea, he jumped overboard at Pinkenba and swam ashore.

I was watching some Fox News today and they showed some polls about “What were high issues for voters”. Surprised me a little that abortion was at 40% and gun control was at 38%. I hadn’t seen that before. Abortion is usually “way down the list”.
It sort of makes me think that perhaps the Democrats have totally misread the polling (hence the abortion push as a major issue for their campaign).
Abortion as a “high issue” could well be pro lifers. Ditto the guns and NRA members. They didn’t really explain the questions asked, and whom to.
No doubt the Democrat pollsters have the in-depth information however, I’m guessing that they had to “pick an issue” to run with, and abortion was the only one that favoured them (rather than the economy, inflation, the border e.t.c).
They settled on abortion and “democracy” as their only hope to bandage the bleeding.
the problem here is that they have made this a life destroying sentence for the accused and given women the power to potential destroy a male.
these kinds of accusations, are in fact minor infractions, we are not talking about being dragged down a dark alley by a total stranger. we are talking about minor disagreement over consent, pressured into sex or or in many cases buyers remorse.the punishment does not fit the crime. the male if convicted has his life destroyed. too many women are ruthless in wanting to punish males to protect their reputations.
Ah…I rest my case!
No, not you, Ed.
Bushtucker man lost work.
Unfortunately behind the scenes he was an utter piss wreck.
Abortion as a “high issue” could well be pro lifers.
“Could be”, but ain’t.
Jack Absalom always struck me as a bit of an arsehole.
If you wanted to know about the wildlife then Harry was the man.
Ed – Nor anyone in my family either, except my granddad – although he was only nominally in the British Army since he was working on the Pommy atom bomb, so they stuck him into the Royal Engineers. My brother and I were the first volunteers to serve I think, but only in the AAR. Oh and our dad in cadets, where he reached the rank of Lt. He would’ve done well, if he’d wanted to be a professional soldier, and he’s still quite proud of his service. I was talking about this stuff with him some months ago. Good leader – he became a senior school principal in his early forties.
It’s actually a lot of fun running around the bush and firing off plastic blanks.
Jack was a genuine tough guy, Harry Butler was a bit prissy, Les Hiddins was a bit fruity, Russell Coight was a pretty funny.
“Society has confused the hell out of young people.”
It’s worse than that. Over the last fifty years, the sexual act has been cheapened, coarsened and vulgarised by rampant pornography and promiscuity, and too often young males and females find themselves in demeaning situations like young Mr Cleary and the female, having just met and then having sex on a cold bathroom floor.
No, sex is supposed to be an intimate act of love and respect. We need to teach young people this.
Rockdoctor, in the interest of truth & accuracy, that should be amended to Pakistani money lender.
But yeah, I totally agree with your point. The AnAl govt is following a substantially similar policy path.
One (of many) differences being, Whitlam was popularly elected. AnAl got in by default, with lower vote count than my dog would have attained, had he stood.
… the Pommy Atom Bomb?
Running round the scrub firing off blanks?
Look, if the enemy were a bunch of sheilas, say, 16-22, then I mighta been interested.
You would pretty much think that in the US the abortion debate has been nullified by term limits and “exceptions” by Republican states. And here is where the big companies, NGO’s and Government itself has “shot itself in the foot”. They actually offered to pay to take women interstate, pay board and lodging plus other costs. They really overplayed their hand on this one.
I doubt there are too many women in the US who are fearful they won’t be able to get an abortion if they want one. The left itself has already nullified the issue they are now running an entire election campaign on.
32.7% was Labor bedrock.
Add in 13% Greens and 6% Teals, and it was a convincing victory in targeted Seats.
I was amused that Steve Irwin features in Kurt Schlichter’s latest novel. The Irwin family overachieve. I thought Harry Butler was ok, but then at the same time I though the same of David Attenborough, who has since gone bonkers. Which is sad.

What?
Look, here’s the reality [that you’re not being told]:
In the wider scheme of things, Abortion is Eugenic, criminalising abortion is Dysgenic.
Criminalising Abortion is a way for political Parties to say:
We’re not really serious people.
Why? Fox News polls are terrible.
Got to correct – Steve Irwin is in the 6th of the series not the 7th. I read the two of them back to back, so got confused. The 6th features alligators and crocodiles, the 7th cannibals and dune buggies.
As this site’s most devoted watcher of Sea Patrol (& of Patrol Boat, were it ever to become available [unlikely]) I can confirm it is a commercial production, aired on Ch 9 (available in full in HD, free on 9Now streaming)
It is the one Sarah Dugong-Heffalump believed was real. …. [fast forward past 5 minutes of me guffawing]…..
Patrol Boat was made before Bush Tucker Man. Both were on the ABC.
Les Hiddins is a… complex yet uninteresting character. In my opinion, were he on the Cat he’d be the most acidic & loathed commenter here. In my experience he has one helluva temper, far worse than Slim Dusty’s (& that is saying something) and is unreasonable to the point of jaw-dropping obtuseness.
Never mind people under 40 not recognising him, I’m not sure anybody who last image of Hiddins was on TV would be able to recognise him today. Skin tone has gone, weight is outta control, the pretty boy impish face put on for the cameras (any camera) is long gone, replaced by a sour visage more in keeping with his outlook.

I’d imagine there would be plenty of people on both sides of the political spectrum that rate “abortion as a high issue”. And plenty more people in between.
I seriously doubt it’s going to factor into the majority decision when people get to the ballot box.
Somebody should ask the talentless boy wanker Daniel Radcliffe if he would be happy to have sex with a “woman” with a dick. If he says “no”….he should be asked “why not” and he should be called a bigot.

Not talentless. Good performances in a couple of movies and not Harry Potter ones.
“these kinds of accusations, are in fact minor infractions, we are not talking about being dragged down a dark alley by a total stranger. we are talking about minor disagreement over consent, pressured into sex or or in many cases buyers remorse.the punishment does not fit the crime. the male if convicted has his life destroyed. too many women are ruthless in wanting to punish males to protect their reputations.”
I agree…which is why I think males and females need to be taught to avoid situations like Cleary and the women found themselves in. And particularly males, because all it takes is a shamed bitter female to go to the police and lodge a rape accusation. Religious people, of any religious persuasion, don’t “hook up” in a bar and they don’t go back to a mate’s place and have sex on a bold bathroom floor…..something that probably wasn’t very satisfying for either the male or the female.
“Not talentless. Good performances in a couple of movies and not Harry Potter ones.”
I’ve watched him in a few movies and I find him talentless.
Can you point to the polling, Ed? Be interested in having a look.
Hang on a flash.
5 minutes ago you admitted that you didn’t understand the Poll you were quoting.
Old Ozzie:
One of the reasons the Democrats MUST win the mid terms. I suspect the plundering of the US Treasury over the last few years has been massive and unhideable.
Les Hiddins served two tours in Vietnam with infantry battalions, one tour as a lead scout, “cockheads” don’t last long in that role.
Chad Morgan had been a gun canecutter, he was always up for a fight, plus he had a drinking problem.
Only saw Slim Dusty on TV, he came across as a nasty arsehole.
In addition to talentless I’d describe Daniel Radcliffe as an ungrateful twerp.
He’d be Daniel Radcliffe, council invoice clerk, were it not for J.K. Rowling.

Hiddins, no matter how much of one he is, did not remotely come across as one on TV.
Besides, wasn’t Russell Coight (10 x worse than anything Daniel Radcliffe has ruined) a juvenile attempt to lampoon Troy Dann?
Gez at 1.00:
Bet there’s a conscription story in there somewhere.
The trouble is, flyingduck, that the Lehrman jury wasn’t technically a hung jury: it was discharged because a juror was caught out doing independent research. Given that the jury had already been deliberating for over a week, a hung jury was pretty likely. But because it was discharged for another reason, it doesn’t count as one. So the prosecution gets another shot.
I enjoyed his performance in My Boy Jack and the Woman in Black. Saw him in something ordinary on the plane co starring with Sandra Bullock. Perhaps he’s vocal because his career may have stalled. Like so many actors who mature, the camera is no longer as kind as once it was and audiences are fickle.
I dislike his politics intensely.
Hiddins, no matter how much of one he is, did not remotely come across as one on TV.

An 80kg human has a 1.3kg brain (about 2%) and accounts for 20% of its resting metabolic rate. To run such an energy expensive organ *requires* energy dense food – and in the days before processed sugar, that meant fat. You cant do it with grass clippings.

Woman in Black …er… my understanding is that is a horror movie. There’s more chance of me watching science fiction.
can we get this bloke to run the government?
No. I said it flashed up on the screen during a Fox News show. The poll wasn’t explained. I said I was surprised that abortion was that highly rated.
Every other poll I’ve seen it was under 10%. The Democrats seem to think it’s an election issue. I was speculating that it would be an issue on both sides. Both for and against. Probably equally.
If you have some polling that indicates it’s going to be an “election winner” for the Democrats, I’d like to see a link (if you have one).
It seems to be they just running on one issue. It’s all they have.
It has now been a week since the discharge of the jury and Ms Higgins’ rant on the courthouse steps while an ACT government official stood by her nodding approvingly. No sign of any action on contempt proceedings, as far as I can tell.
Meanwhile the wokerati will be outraged that Whybrow has been made a Senior Counsel. I’ll bet the ACT’s green left government is trying to have that cancelled.

Allow me to amend that to better match.

I note Pat Cummins has the Alinta emblem on the shirt. Now Khawaja is possibly the laziest cricketer in the world, but at least he had the courage of his conviction but at least he stood for something he believed in which was to have the VB sponsorship removed from his attire.
And second ball duck.
Cummins.
0.
No downside.
God that sentence reads scheissenhausen. Repeated myself ?
I never saw that Cassie. It’s a good tale and rather disturbing. Had echoes of Deborah Kerr in The Innocents.
Supposed to be some hand on forehead emoji instead of question mark
A question to all the technophobes out there:
Can ground penetrating radar show up spaces under buildings that have a void associated with them?
“Had echoes of Deborah Kerr in The Innocents.”
One of the most chilling films I’ve ever seen.
Fuck me. Take every run available. Selfish pricks
“it’s time to re-visit Kathy Sherriff’s complaint. If not why not?”
We all know why.
From “The Age.” Constitutional recognition and a “Voice to Parliament” should provide quite a few more good laughs.
Comment at The Australian:
Please, oh please let this come true.
Things were going too slowly on the advance from Nadzab to Lae so Brig Gen Eather went to the front to see what the problem was. He grabbed a section of diggers and was off. Sometime later a WO encountered him and pointed out that Brigadiers really shouldn’t be lead scout for an entire brigade. True story.
Yesssss!
And I noticed a stat earlier that Alintastralia had taken eight catches this series and dropped three.
Captain Blackout has dropped two of those three.
Daniel Radcliffe is the poor man’s Robert Pattinson…
Whilst hanging the washing up I thought I heard that Alintastralia need to keep the Affos under 106, or something bad would happen.
To Australia.
Go hard, you poppy-growing bad boys.
Particularly second ball of the last over.
Selfishness is their watch-word.
From ex-captain McSooky burning a review on a plumb LBW to current Captain Blackout going for glory off the first ball of the over and getting out when he should have just fed the strike to Maxwell.
But, hey, at least no-one will yell at them when they come off the field.
Our brains principally rely on sugar.
…
Finally.
Someone has worked it out.
All week the dumbo sports commentators have been saying Alintastralia have to win by … “a lot”.
I figured it out last night and reckoned it was a margin of about 50 (say 109).
Then I see someone on the Cricinfo site has worked out all the scenarios.
S Rajesh.
An Indian.
A dirty truck stop shittin’ Indian.
And it looks like everybody has copied Rajesh’s homework.

Ah…well, you see now, that’d be the O’Dwyers of Tipperary, to be sure.
Last chance to suggest a theme for tomorrow night’s radio show, Cats.
Otherwise it’s new millenium electronica … 🙂
1) We used to think that, but there is increasing evidence that brain can burn ketones.
https://youtu.be/qSAiVROezRs
2) So what?… we are quite capable of making as much glucose as we need using raw materials from fat and protein metabolism. My point is that we are evolved to consume *very little* carbohydrate (indeed, we can live quite healthily without consuming any carbs at all), yet the modern diet floods our bloodstream with sugar, much more than is needed, and the excess is turned into fat.
I for one found my mental acuity and stamina *markedly* increased when I went off the carbs.
“I look to Aboriginal people strong in their culture and identity with longing and hope that my family can get there one day.”
Might take a while.
The black fellas around Echuca are very tight knit and very much dislike interlopers, and can sniff them from a mile away.
I would be looking at the relationship between the elders and Mzz O’Dwyer for any suggestion of untowardnessness.
(Not a word, but looks impressive)
Private to Colonel, including being awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal (second only to the Victoria Cross) during back-to-back tours in Vietnam.
Johannes Cornelis (Hans) FLEER AM, DCM
An exceptional man, and a good friend.
Please.
Proud Tipperary woman.
You can be sure that counter measures are being organised tonight.
In future, all appearances will be pre emptively scoped by two or three large fellows who will identify any looming threats and take them by the elbows as they help them out of earshot.
It’s a measure of Matthew Guy’s unimportance that no one has to tail his caravan around and yell at him. Why bother.
We have a winner!!
Reading the article, I note BGEN Eather was promoted to MAJGEN in 1945, so technically it was Lead Scout to Major (General) – extra points for that.
BB, I think that was where he was headed.
But the public backlash came as a shock.
I reckon he either backed down and/or Alinta gave them an “all in or the money walks” warning.
Only guys who can hold their balls and scratch their nose at the same time get the DCM.
Which excludes officers.
Respect.
My dad was commissioned from a SNCO rank. Actually not overly uncommon even in peace time…
Can almost detect an air of resignation about the commentary team regarding the Afghanistan side reaching 106.
With New Zealand winning, they cannot be overtaken in the group, and Engerland have Ireland in their match.
Might be rissoled
and causes metabolic syndrome and diabetes
far worse than Slim Dusty’s (& that is saying something)
I saw Slim Dusty’s show a few times in Townsville at the Dean Park Sound Shell. Drinking in pubs up this way you run into roadies from time to time and I heard Slim was of a nasty temperament.
stop teasing us!
Something will happen on Tuesday, Nov. 8, that has never happened before. According to EarthSky.org, this will be the first total lunar eclipse on Election Day in U.S. history (since 1776).
Dunno what if anything to read into that but it’s a cool factoid.
Bad Moon Rising
2/79.
27 to get.
Please let the Strayans’ body language turn to shit in 15 runs or so.
Why is Mitchell Starc not playing?
BB,
They dropped Starc for – Kane Richardson, who made 1 and is getting serious tap.
Quite the reverse actually.
I am a very distant relative by marriage of Slim’s and from having met him and many of his family I can assure you he was a top bloke.
A Friendly Letter To The Foes of the Republic
So a bit like dropping Steve Waugh for Joe Burns
The Affos just lost 3/0.
Calm down you flogs. Just get another seven runs.
protection money
BB.
Engerland have Ceylon tomorrow.
Poppy farmers falling to bits.
5-101.
Zat
Are you spending Thanksgiving down south?
Not just any old government lackey.
It was Heidi Yates the ACT Victims of Crime Commissioner – supporting an alleged victim of crime before the crime had been adjudged.
Bastards.
6/103.
Three runs, you peanuts.
Yikes.
6-103.
They wouldn’t be any different to thousands of muslims who never went to Syria.
Which is why all muslims and islam should be banned.
Except for Australian supporters.
Fantastic piece and the author is wholly correct. Hint: the answer is, “Yes, yes, they should”.
Indulge these illiterate innumerate staggeringly ignorant fact and evidence free anti-scientific imbeciles and you are encouraging their unrelenting idiocy (not to mention the destruction of a civilization), being as they are, braindead pieces of excrement that should never have been vomited into existence in the first place.
There is a monumental uncivilised utterly preposterous totalitarian ugliness besieging what is left of “Western Civilisation” that will triumph in our lifetimes.
The speed of the decline we’ve witnessed in the last twenty years is now increasing exponentially.
Witness the rapid advance of the all encompassing degeneracy we’ve been flooded with in the last five years alone.
Mass murder of “useless eaters” and the glorification of paedophilia are an eyeblink away.
6/106.
Strayan sphincters now going 5-cent 50-cent.
JC, yes indeed.
I’ve got tickets to FSU v UF on the 25th in Tallahassee.
CDC excess deaths data:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMdKWBtNY5w
Captain Solarwind copping it from the heroin farmers #8 & #9.
Commentators still trying to pump up Alintastralia. Give it a spell.
FMD.
They couldn’t put Ireland away.
And the heroin farmers take them into the last over.
Put up the screens and get the .22.
Much can be said of the middle order stupidity of Afghanistan, I would put forth the case Australia’s bowlers have been worse
Paul Pelosi was released from hospital today after a miraculous recovery from being ‘critically injured’ and suffering ‘life-threatening’ wounds requiring ‘life-saving emergency surgery’ during a home break-in last Friday.
Oddly, his alleged assailant DePape is still hospitalized although he wasn’t reported to have been injured.
Hmm.
Ha ha ha hahahahaaa.
Four runs, the Affos took them to.
One over of idiocy in the middle cost them the game.
As predicted, the Strayan body language leaving the field is terrible. Eat shit you woke ponces.
But for a brilliant runout by Maxwell they were toast.
And Rashid Khan has made our so-called death bowlers look like park cricketers.
48 of 23 balls. 3 fours, 4 sixes.
The fact that hunter gatherers are known to have high carb intake contradicts the claim. Given the x4 increase in brain sugar transporters over other primates the claim makes no sense. Vegetarians typically have a low fat-high carb intake and have a 20% reduction in CVD pathology. Generalizing from evolutionary theory about optimal diets is a bad idea. The problem is sugar loading in the absence of physical activity. That’s when the damage happens. Microglia, the immune cells in the brain, can generate inflammation with high fat loading. The liver will generate sugar from lipids(glucogenesis).
Metabolic syndrome arises from excess calorie intake from any source. Obesity is the primary driver of METs not carbs. If carbs caused METS most athletes would have NAFLD.
That has been found multiple times. The downside is nutrient depletion, especially choline, DHA, and some V vits. both of which are vital for a healthy brain. Choline is a substrate for acetylcholine production and ACH generally reduces inflammation in the brain. DHA also has that role. The most abundant excitatory neurotransmitter, glutamate, is made from sugar so GABA the primary inhibitory transmitter must also depend on sugar availability because it is produced from glutamate The caveat is that vegetarians are often much more health conscious than the general population.
It is not enough to think about evolutionary impacts or energy substrates, we must also think about immune responses to dietary and lifestyle factors because inflammation is the most common underlying factor is many pathological states.
The problem isn’t carbs alone. It is bloody Ancel Keys and the decades long refusal by the medical profession to recognise the stupidity of his arguments(if not outright fraud).
Obviously this is all very difficult material to understand. If you think intuiting and extrapolating from general principles is the way to go you need to go back to square one.
no it doesn’t. read what you wrote yourself. excess carbs. you can consume carbs all you like so long as you burn them up. note how hunter gatherers are highly active. sedentary people should stick to low carb to be safe.
Athletes who for example burn 4000 calories a day can safely consume proportional amounts of carbs.
I caught a shot of the usurper to the coaches throne, Ronald MacDonald sitting on the bench at one stage.
He had that look.
“What the fuck have I done?”
Hopefully, and for once in their miserable kipper-eating soap-dodging lives the Poms can stop moaning and get over the line against the Vedda people tomorrow.
