Those Middle Eastern barbers are usually quite good. Just don’t be there when they go up in flames.

I have no experience regarding that. I do find that a righteous shave is a heavenly thing.

I suppose the danger for Palis (and Arabs in general) is that they might might hold a razor to their throat while enjoying a piece of music, relaxing at some accountery whereby they can be confident they have money for tomorrow, receiving medical treatment, benefitting from some scientific achievement, laughing at a joke – any one of which might be infected by Jooness and requiring a quick slice across the gullet.

I was going to suggest that they might might take some solace in sports, where Jewish people do not excel – but where do Arabs excel?

Good heavens. My 48 yo nephew from SA was on the header this morning bringing in the barley. Because their hand was ill, his wife was driving the bin. When everything unexpectedly came to a halt, she climbed up and found him dead.

What can you say? He missed all the best bits – grads, weddings, grandkids.

On top of her absolute distress she is faced with the need to get the crop in. They have a contractor for the wheat but not the barley. The neighbours will eventually do what neighbours do, but in the meantime the 80 yo FIL will step in with his granddaughter riding shotgun on him. Fortuitously, she missed schoolies because she was also ill.

Idiot business, life.

Nothing much has changed in antisemitism since medieval times. Two factors as examples:

In the past the local baron or pasha would sign an approval for Jews to settle in some degraded quarter of their town or hamlet. It might last for decades or a few generations then be retracted. They would be heckled out and hounded out and go through it all again somewhere else. It’s the League of Nationas and its successor this time, but no different. Jews can only live where others permit.

The word of a Jew pleading their own case was not accepted in court; their evidence or supplication had to be supported by good Christians. Israel’s evidence of the cynical use of civilians, hospitals, schools and UNWRA sites follows the old rules – it’s not accepted. Israel is accused of the war crimes of Hamas. However if Israel allowed quite reasonably (they said) independent verification by …. blah, blah, blah. “Evidence by Israel needs to be supported by good human rights NGOs”.

M0nty: “October 7 does not morally justify turning Gaza into rubble.”

When Hamarse publicly states they will do it again and again until Israel is no more, what choice do they leave the Israeli’s? None. And that was always their intent – to provoke Israel into a massive attack and drag the entire ME into a conflict. Hamarse leaders have said as much, and publicly. They saw the Abraham accords bringing peace and they didn’t like it.

Was the world justified in fighting Nazi Germany in WWII? What makes Hamarse any better, given their founding documents and the public statements of their leaders? No different M0nty – except in one way. The Germans were ashamed of what they did and wanted to hide it. Hamarse posted their atrocities on the internet and bragged about it. The entire world was shocked and eventually destroyed Germany’s capacity to wage war, killing many civilians in the process. Hamarse, as above, is if anything worse and the response needs to be united and hard – this is unacceptable and you WILL submit to the rules or you will die, regardless of the consequences to civilians.
There is and can be no compromise with these savages. The ultimatum must be: renounce it loudly and publicly and stick to it, or we will rise up and destroy you utterly. Your choice. Choose – now.

Just in case there is any doubt whatsoever.

You are the carbon they want to see reduced.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/nov/20/revealed-huge-climate-impact-of-the-middle-classes-carbon-divide

The richest 10% of people in many countries cause up to 40 times more climate-heating carbon emissions than the poorest 10% of their fellow citizens, according to data obtained by the Guardian.

Failing to account for this huge divide when making policies to cut emissions can cause a backlash over the affordability of climate action, experts say.

The world’s richest 10% encompasses most of the middle classes in developed countries – anyone paid more than about $40,000 (£32,000) a year. The lavish lifestyles of the very rich – the 1% – attract attention. But the 10% are responsible for half of all global emissions, making them key to ending the climate crisis.

Chancel, in a recent report, noted that a “relatively modest” progressive wealth tax of 1.5% on people with $100m or more in assets – 0.001% of the global population – would raise $295bn a year. That is a similar amount to what is needed to protect the world’s people from the growing impacts of the climate crisis.

An international taxation taskforce is due to launch at Cop28 to push for new climate levies and will consider taxes on wealth, fossil fuels, shipping, aviation and financial transactions.

Townend said: “Rich lifestyles can change to reduce emissions without damaging wellbeing. What matters most to people is our relationships with others and our ability to be social, and those things aren’t carbon intensive to enjoy or maintain.”

Ignore all the bumf about “inequality within countries” and realise they want you living like a Dalit in India or a tribal in Africa to save the world.

One of there most dreaded farm accidents. It is a dangerous business. The most everyday jobs on tractors and other farm machinery can go awry at the least lack of concentration or machinery failure. I worry when my not-so-young husband works machinery when he is tired.

BTW I simply won’t help when the mechanical posthole digger is being used. Thank goodness, we rarely have the need for it these days.

IDF’s spy Unit 504 was critical in unmasking Hamas’s abuse of hospitals

Unit returns to southern Israel after decade-long hiatus; Has interrogated over 500 terrorists and sent out over 10 million evacuation messages.

IDF Unit 504, the military’s human spying version of the Mossad, has been vital in unmasking Hamas’s abuse of hospitals for a variety of terrorist and military purposes, The Jerusalem Post can now disclose.

This information was previously provided to a closed group of military reporters, but it had been kept censored due to operational considerations.

In a recording released by the IDF of a Unit 504 interrogation, a Palestinian who had been in Shifa Hospital said there were many Hamas forces there, and their presence upset the medical staff.

The interrogated Palestinian estimated that he had seen 80 to 100 terrorists there. That was likely only a portion of the Hamas presence there, taking into account that Shifa is a large complex with many facilities.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists were “camouflaged” in the dress of various kinds of medical helpers, and they even went as far as to use the emergency room for their activities, the interrogated Palestinian said.

Another Palestinian, Hamdoah Riad Assad Samlah, described how Hamas terrorists were using 50,000 Palestinian civilians at the large Palestine Red Crescent Society building in Gaza as human shields.

No one would resist the Hamas forces, or they might be killed, he said.

Hamas had wrapped their rockets in civilian blankets to hide them from the IDF, and they frequently fired them from the nearby surroundings of the building, he added.

Another Palestinian told Unit 504 he had seen more than 100 Hamas terrorists controlling Rantisi Hospital in Gaza, split up into tents of about five to six terrorists per tent.

He said he was also in a hospital known as the Sweden Hospital, where he saw at least seven Hamas terrorists. Although they were in civilian garb, he said he knew one of them personally, and the rest were armed.

An additional disclosure is that Unit 504 has reestablished a new physical center and unit to handle Gaza issues and security issues on Israel’s southern border, after a hiatus dating back more than a decade.

This has been possible since Unit 504 has doubled its size since the Israel-Gaza war started on October 7, including with some of the most highly trained reservists in the IDF.

Until the outbreak of the war, Unit 504 was focused more on Lebanon, Syria, and other Middle Eastern countries. For example, Unit 504’s involvement in arranging medical and infrastructure assistance for Syrian militias on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights during the Syrian civil war of the 2010s has been previously reported by the Post and others.

In addition, the IDF said Unit 504 has interrogated more than 500 terrorists since October 7 and arrested and questioned at least 300 terrorists since the start of the Gaza counterinvasion.

Over 300 Hamas terrorists captured and taken to Israel

Unit 504 has helped flag some 300 terrorist sites for IDF operations, with more than 100 of them having later been attacked by various Israeli forces, the IDF said in a statement.

“Until now, we have arrested more than 300 terrorists, as part of the invasion, who were taken for extended questioning to Israel,” a senior Unit 504 commander was quoted as saying. “The information that came out of questioning such prisoners has had tremendous value, led to eliminating other terrorists, and to enhancing the security of our forces.”

The senior officer said his unit had also received thousands of calls from Palestinians in Gaza who wanted to help them with intelligence or otherwise cooperate against Hamas, “an order of magnitude that we had never seen before. It seems that the residents of Gaza are unhappy with the barbaric conduct of Hamas.”

To accomplish these many missions, dozens of Arabic-speaking field interrogators are spread throughout the battle areas in Gaza at the division, brigade, and battalion levels, the IDF said.

Buyer Beware

Hotel booking made with Qantas website ‘didn’t exist’ when Aussie arrived at accomodation

A non-existent hotel booking was what greeted an Australian man after his long-haul flight, despite him paying Qantas for it months earlier.

An Australian man has revealed the crushing moment he arrived at the overseas accommodation he booked and paid for via Qantas only to be told his booking didn’t exist.

Melbourne local Aaron Smith paid for his 12-night stay at Apollo Dimora Calicut, in India’s south, through the Qantas website in September, along with his flights.

When he arrived at the hotel – where he stayed for a business trip – on November 9 however, staff claimed they had no record of his booking, and because it was late in the evening, he had no way of contacting the airline.

“We resolved to create a temporary booking so I could contact Qantas in the morning, which I did, but they reiterated that the booking was active and confirmed,” Mr Smith told news.com.au.

Hotel staff initially doubled down on having no record and it was only after several days it found his booking.

At that point however, staff told him he would need to pay about 30 per cent more than what he paid through the Qantas site because he had been given the incorrect rate.

A series of chat messages and emails between the traveller and Qantas subsequently unfolded, during which it was revealed that Qantas was “essentially a wrapper” for Expedia, a third-party holiday booking site.

Both the hotel and airline told him they were “waiting on Expedia” to resolve the issue, despite the site not being mentioned at all throughout the booking process.

Mr Smith argued Expedia should have been “completely taken out of the loop in the resolution” given Qantas didn’t outwardly indicate it used the site.

“My suspicion is that the hotel doesn’t manage its listings very well and probably have wrong pricing all over the place,” he said.

“But my issue throughout this whole process has been the ongoing communication with Qantas and their inability to get a resolution up until this morning [Tuesday].”

He didn’t rule out that a post he made to X, formerly Twitter, could have spurred the airline into finding a resolution.

“I did that to try to apply pressure and get a response because I was completely out of options otherwise,” he said.

Hotel staff insisted he paid an increased rate, which was expected to be the equivalent of about $300 on top of what he already paid.

Shortly after he contacted news.com.au to share his experience, and after almost two weeks in limbo, Mr Smith was informed by Qantas that it would cover additional charges imposed by the hotel when he checked out.

“Arguably this should’ve happened 10 days ago rather than five hours before checking out,” he said.

The RBA chief says that wage growth at 4% is too high.
This is after the former RBA chief was given an almost 10% pay rise in his final year (almost 100k gross).

bons,
that is terrible news. I hope neighbours can help enough to get the crop in OK.

I lost a friend bout 25 years ago; he had built up his sheep stud, almost lost it just as about to hold their first sale through infection of footrot; went through six years of rebuilding and isolation. Just a couple of weeks before their first (again) ram sale he felt a bit crook and went back to bed.
His wife did the school run with their 6yo, came in to check on him about 10am and he was gone.

Mike was a hard working, dedicated farmer and a top man. His son is now grown, and taking over the farm hardly having known what a great Dad (and Opa lost too) he had. I however was lucky enough to be their farm worker over holidays and gap years, neighbour and classmate much of my life, and learn their values.

‘Mass exploitation’: Jewish community pens letter to Premier as criticism for not condemning Free Palestine school strike

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan is in the firing line after she defended students’ right to protest while the Jewish community and Coalition claim she has failed to properly encourage children to stay at school.

Amy Roulston – Digital Reporter

Jewish community members have penned an open letter to the Victorian government for failing to take a “forceful” stance against school students attending a Free Palestine protest this week.

Students are being urged to walk out of class at 12.30pm on Thursday, November 23, and head to Melbourne’s landmark Flinders Street Station for the demonstration which is planned for an hour later.

More than 6,000 members of Victoria’s Jewish community have signed a letter addressed to Premier Jacinta Allan and Education Minister Ben Carroll, asking the state government to take a “clear” and “forceful” stance against the protest.

Ms Allan and Mr Carroll have told students they are expected to be in the classroom but have copped criticism for not being strong enough in their stance, with the Premier conceding the right to peacefully protest is a “…fundamental principle of our democracy that must not and should not change.”

The letter claims most students in Victoria “will not have a direct connection or a comprehensive (if any) understanding of the attacks on Israel and war in Gaza”.

“Is the ‘Free Palestine’ rally truly concerned with hearing the voices of school children, or is it about the mass exploitation of children to advance their cause?”

“This sort of rally only leads to ‘other-ing’ and binary positions of ‘us and them’,” the letter reads.

“This is dangerous both in terms of the potential for physical escalation as recently seen in Caulfield as well as the psychological damage that can be caused through exclusion.

“Children have enough to deal with, they don’t need to be on the streets protesting an issue so complex that most adults can’t comprehend the nuance.”

Federal Liberal Senator and shadow education minister Sarah Henderson also heaped pressure on the Premier to take a stronger stance, accusing her of being “irresponsible” and “reckless” for not condemning the protest.

“The Premier has been very irresponsible in effectively green lighting students going to this protest by saying that they have a fundamental right, a democratic right to attend a protest,” she said.

“That is irresponsible, that is reckless, and I’m calling on the Premier to reverse her position and make it very clear that students should not attend this protest on Thursday.”

The Fall of Minneapolis

November 20, 2023 – Sundance

As noted by the New York Post, “a brilliant new crowdfunded documentary, “The Fall of Minneapolis,” aims to remedy our collective amnesia about the events of May 25, 2020 — a time when the country was already half-mad from the ravages of COVID-19 and forced lockdowns, and when Democratic Party operatives, including candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, seized on the “Defund the police” movement, in order to bring down President Donald Trump.”

The film is based on Liz Collin’s Amazon bestseller

“They’re Lying: The Media, The Left, and The Death of George Floyd,” which exposes the holes in the prevailing narrative surrounding George Floyd’s death, the trial of Derek Chauvin, and the fallout the city of Minneapolis has suffered ever since (more).

Of course it’s the same. You commandeer one or more ship and by doing so raise the costs of shipping through that zone as insurers either raise the rates or refuse to insure your ship travelling through that area.

Thank God someone realises just how you stop shipping.
You don’t need torpedos or submarines or naval task forces – you just get the insurers to raise their rates. And the only way around this is to have the government take on the risk – which is bloody expensive all by itself because then it takes warship convoying etc etc.

And if you look closely, I suspect that the grossest increases come to those under the ambit of the Remuneration Tribunal, which covers, inter alia, Commonwealth politicians, judges, senior public servants and military officers, and probably a whole bunch of statutory officers in organisations like the Reserve Bank, HREOC, AAT, and many, many other QANGOs.

The total cost of those determinations would be a good subject for a Parliamentary Question on Notice, but no politician would ever ask it. Even a question to your local member would almost inevitably be replied to with babble about “privacy”.

In Bringing Inflation to Heel news:

WA hydrogen production hub funding as milestone reached

The federal government has promised $70 million to the H2Kwinana Hydrogen Hub, which it says will help to decarbonise WA’s industrial sector by lowering emissions.

The Man With the Punchable Face Looking Into the Middle Distance tells us:

Mr Bowen said Australia had hydrogen projects in the pipeline that were worth about $200-$300 billion.

“By 2050, Australia’s hydrogen industry could generate $50 billion in additional GDP and create over 16,000 jobs, as well as an additional 13,000 jobs from the construction of renewable energy infrastructure to power the production of green hydrogen,” he said.

“These projects are the next step towards using locally produced renewable hydrogen in Australia to reduce our industrial emissions and develop a renewable export future.”

A few quick sums:

CSIRO tells us that the H2Kwinana Hydrogen Hub that Shitweasel Bowen is buying for us appears to run a 110MW electrolyser producing 44 tonnes of hydrogen per day (yes, forty-four tonnes). Assuming 24/7/356 operation, this works out at 16,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually using something like 960GWh of power.

Assuming the mandated ‘renewable’ power can be purchased from the Western Power system at the average WA wholesale $60/MWh, the electrolyser power cost works out at around $58m pa.

The cost to BP of the Base 1 Bowen Super Project is about $330m (after our $70m contribution) – so assuming 7%/20yrs, around $40m pa capex/interest recovery.

No idea what opex and sustaining capex might be, but assuming $zero, the bright Green hydrogen is going to come out at something north of A$6/kg. Only quite a bit more than the renewable industry fantasy $0.5 to $2.00/kg target price.

Looking forward to the other $270 billion worth of these gems.
We’re gunna be an international powerhouse, baby…

Argentina has 150% inflation and socialists have been in power destroying that country for 40 years

Heading towards 200%. I love this dude, Milei. He’s way over the top, too. Peronists have had control of government since the 1930s, so it’s been longer than 40 years. The big problem for Milei is that he may not be able to get his therapy through Congress.

I want to see him dollarize the economy because the central bank cannot be trusted ever again. The only problem with dollarization is that he needs to deregulate all facets of the economy in order for it to be as flexible as the US economy. This means junking tariffs to protect the home markets and junking labor restrictions. Mind you, the Argentinian economy would be the model His leadership has been touting over these years. 40% of the population lives in poverty.

Dollarize quickly, and then ensure the rest of the policy is followed through. N

When I had the theory of AGW explained to me it went like this – CO2 is a greenhouse gas that does warm up the atmosphere, this heating won’t be huge but it will result in more evaporation of water, that evaporation will heat much more as water vapour is a strong greenhouse gas, this heating will result in more water vapour. and then it continues apace and we all die.

I didn’t believe it but that’s the theory.

They’re planning a massive hydrogen plant in Wodonga, it has lots of grants and subsidies from state and federal govs, they plan to replace 10% of the natural gas supply to the area with hydrogen, apparently this will reduce CO2 emissions. But the product of burning hydrogen is water vapour, so won’t this produce way more ‘greenhouse’ gas than the current pure natural gas supply? I have asked them this question but no response so far.

This plant produces the hydrogen by electrolysis, this uses around 50kw of energy to make 1kg of hydrogen, when that 1kg of hydrogen is burned it produces around 33kw of energy. None of this makes any sense, why are engineers and other smart people not screaming about it?

Well, let’s see. That painful faux-anthem was written by two blokes called Andy Hill and Bruce Woolley. Hill:

Andrew Gerard Hill (born 1957) is an English record producer and songwriter who worked with Bucks Fizz and Celine Dion during the 1980s and 1990s.

Bucks Fizz. probably not, then. Woolley:

Bruce Martin Woolley (born 11 November 1953) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He wrote songs with artists such as the Buggles and Grace Jones, including “Video Killed the Radio Star” and “Slave to the Rhythm”

So. Bucks Fizz and The Buggles.

I’m tipping those clowns (like the first-year uni students squealing in city CBDs) picked it because it sounded nice, not because they knew what it meant.

Brittany Higgins to give evidence in ‘de facto rape trial’

A year after the criminal case against Bruce Lehrmann collapsed, the question of whether he raped Brittany Higgins in a Parliament House ministerial office will again be interrogated in court. This time, it will fall to a federal judge to deliver the answer.

Just over a year ago, the rape case against Bruce Lehrmann collapsed after a juror brought external evidence into the jury room, with a retrial then abandoned over fears for Brittany Higgins’ mental health.

That train of events left unanswered the question that had gripped the nation: Did Mr Lehrmann rape Ms Higgins on the couch of a senior Liberal minister in Parliament House?

On Wednesday, the question will again become the subject of interrogation, this time in a defamation action.
Read Next

And it will fall to Justice Michael Lee in the Federal Court to deliver the answer.

Mr Lehrmann is suing Network 10 and journalist Lisa Wilkinson over an interview she conducted with Ms Higgins that aired on The Project in 2021, detailing accusations Mr Lehrmann had raped Ms Higgins, but not naming him as the alleged attacker.

The defamation trial is shaping up, as predicted, to become a de facto rape trial, with Ten seeking to prove that Ms Higgins’ allegations that she was raped in Parliament House in March 2019 are “substantially true”.|

Ten is confident Ms Higgins will take the stand to give evidence that she was raped by Mr Lehrmann.

Concerns over her fragile mental health led prosecutors to abandon a retrial of Mr Lehrmann in the ACT Supreme Court last year, but Ms Higgins has confirmed her commitment to appear as a witness “to defend the truth” in any civil action brought by Mr Lehrmann.

However there will be significant differences between the two cases, most notably that Ms Higgins is not protected by the same rules of evidence that apply under criminal law to complainants in sexual assault cases.

In addition to its truth defence, Ten also claims it did not identify Mr Lehrmann in its broadcast, and that it made reasonable efforts to contact him and get his response.

Ms Wilkinson, former co-host of The Project, has hired high profile defamation barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC after unexpectedly ditching Ten’s legal team.

Is this an inversion of economics?

Isnt removing money from consumers the whole aim of interest rate increases?
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-11-21/rba-interest-rates-minutes-businesses-passing-on-inflation-costs/103130820
Alarming signs that some businesses are passing higher inflation costs on to Australian consumers convinced the Reserve Bank that another interest rate rise was needed to dampen inflation expectations.

Key points:
Minutes from the RBA’s November meeting show that concerns about businesses passing on inflation costs was a major factor in increasing interest rates
RBA board members decided that lifting rates to 4.35 per cent on November 7 would also reduce the risk of an “unwelcome” rise in inflation
Financial markets expect the RBA will keep rates on hold at its final meeting for the year next month
Minutes from the RBA’s meeting a fortnight ago noted that while “longer-term” inflation expectations remain “broadly anchored” there were “growing signs of a mindset among businesses” that any cost increases could be passed on.

“If sustained, this would contribute to higher inflation,” the minutes noted.

Is this an inversion of economics?

Mole> The inflation game is played by producers and consumers both guessing that higher prices can and will be levied in the market. Producers attempt to pass on their inflationary costs and consumers will spend now if they see low expectation of prices moderating or falling “soon”.

While higher interest rates remove buying power from those with debts, for others the rates provide more spending $$$. So it may be that having inflated asset values for so long there is little effect in raising rates on overall spending … leaving asset values as the shoe that needs to drop.

Sir Cliff Richard’s This Morning appearance sparks uproar after ‘rude’ remark (20 Nov)

Sir Cliff Richard sparked outrage among This Morning viewers on Monday after he made a “rude” remark about Elvis.

The singer sat down with Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, and Sarah Ferguson to chat about his extensive career in the music industry.

However, when asked about Elvis, Sir Cliff told the hosts he once refused to have a picture taken with the King of Rock because he was “overweight”.

Yes, you guessed it, the woke have their collective knickers in a twist because Cliff Richard fat-shamed Elvis.

My opinion of Milei remains unresolved since he immediately played the Falklands card yesterday. Unless he gets a clue he will faceplant rather bigly.

He’s angered the Argentine veterans of the Falklands, who’re royally browned off at him for praising Margaret Thatcher for being “One of the greatest leaders in the history of humanity.”

However, his declaration that Argentina has non-negotiable sovereignty over the Falklands means he can go & get knotted.

Earlier today, listened to BBC World program on lying and its relation to culture and cultural norms.

Nothing to say about Muslims (naturally) but interesting about others. Learning to lie and to recognise when others are doing it is an essential part of growing up. In English cultures we have the white lie which smooths social interactions. In Japan, they have ‘hon’ which denotes your private, unrevealed thoughts and feelings which you keep to yourself. There is another term for the opinions and thoughts you speak in public. In China, there are ‘purple lies’: lying out of modesty e.g. when your test result is a high distinction but you pretend it’s ordinary.

Top of the table, bluntest of blunt truth tellers were …… the Dutch. Had to laugh. I have a few Dutch relatives and they don’t hold back in conversation.

The program ended with the reporter in conversation with a young bloke from Amsterdam. She mentioned how in all her other interviews the person interviewed said how much they’d enjoyed the experience. Did he enjoy it ? No. He criticised the room (studio) and the building and made it clear that it wasn’t enjoyable or interesting. LOL.
