In Good News Today news Love Island Australia has been bumped to a late night time slot. The program which “sees singles “hook-up” with each other in order to stay on the island and vie for $50,000 in prize money” is to be replaced with reruns of Paramedics.

If that doesn’t restore your faith in humanity you must be a heartless bastard.

Usually, it’s the Traditional Catholics who are onto things like Rosary processions etc because the novus ordo people don’t do things like that. I wish they would but they don’t seem to think it’s of value. Anyways, I usually post stuff here.

I tried to go into the State Library of Victoria today to do some work, thinking – with everything else open to all – as it is for the time being (isn’t it?) – that I’d be able to go in there without impertinent questions being asked of me.

Not so. Signs well before you get to the door saying – in boppy “friendly” typeface and design – to have your vaccination credentials ready (ie or get lost).

So I went to Melbourne University’s library and a similar sight there; two functionaries sitting in the foyer at a table; no guns or weapons, but I got the message. Keep out – unless you’re prepared to tell us your medical history.

I came home.

We did a rough count and there were about 400 of us in the Rosary procession. Some even from Ballarat came done for the day.

We started out the front of the Cathedral. The gates were quickly locked to prevent any of us going in – not that any of us had that intention. We must have scared them because we were all carrying our Rosaries in plain sight. One of our lot got there earlier and wanted to go in to pray, but was stopped because she didn’t have a vax passport.

How long was the ABC news talking to one doctor in his office before they rushed through one minute on the protests (which they incidentally mischaracterised in the voice-over)? And how was that GP yakking on and on *news*?

When I first sat down at the computer this arvo (about an hour ago), newsdotcomdotau had a report on the Melbourne protest which simply stated upwards of a thousand protesters were carrying on.

DB, it didn’t get a mention on ABC Sydney news, which I watched for the first time in a couple of years just to see whether there’d be a report. But nothing, nothing at all.

They can’t say it was just too far away from here to matter, or there was too many other important items to fit one more report in, because they had a kids’ climate march in Glasgow on, and a couple of weavers in northern NSW making a tartan for koalas possibly to fundraise for the marsupials. Late night FTA TV, Bond in Casino Royale.
After 11, one of those cinematic double-length ads that only come on when rates get cheap. I’d prefer cattle drench or auto wreckers, which I got in spades, but I defer… back to the new ad-
Kids dancing around, making the gay ScuMmo elbow-bump part of an innocently warmhearted dance routine. “That looks in no way unnatural or potentially a corked pre-teen tit away from tears”, I think. “Elbow-bumps are normal and dandy, and I can’t even remember how good used to be to fearlessly take a friend, or a stranger, by the hand any more.”
Rolls on, a multiculti sharehouse group is putting together a meal in the kitchen. Bloke is mature-age, five days overdue for a shave, overweight, wears a t-shirt underneath an untucked and unbuttoned short-sleeve shirt, keen but unco-ordinated. Girl, also mature-age, is pretty, trim, and competent with a wry smile and knowing deference. “She’s the one who knows the unitary operations of how to run a household, on behalf of her unemployable male housemate, probably after she gets home from work,” I note.
The kids skirt in from the trampoline, unclear what they’re up to in the student accommodation, assume they belong to the lady, the bloke doesn’t match. Two oldies come through, and I can immediately tell by their over-acting and auslan-interpreter-level gurning and arm-waving that they are either dementia ward escapees, or ethnic old folks from central casting.
“Aha”, I realise. “This is a completely normal and low-risk depiction of a family, easily digestible, which everyone can surely not be offended by.”
Kids are shown gleefully waving at each other over the fence as they co-ordinate their backyard trampoline bounces. “That’s normal- and it looks like even more FUN than a verbal, or physical interaction between neighbours!” I sigh, contentedly.
Ethnic Nonna is shown unwrapping a waist-high pyramid of, what, oh my god you guys didn’t- TOILET PAPER? Oh you’re a scream! Remember how silly we all were when we er just doubled, once or maybe twice at the most, our toilet paper buy? Oh ha ha ha ja ja, and like er just one or at the most maybe two people we saw on the news maybe doubled or at the absolute maximum tripled the amount of Softex they kept in the cupboard? Oooh ha ha ha ja ja ja, gee whiz they- but not us! were so silly back then with a rush on non-perishables, two or three times, four at the most. I’d almost forgotten actually, I’m sure the chicks down at Coles never twigged what you were up to buying all this stuff in the first place.
What, all the checkout chicks had “trainee” on their rainbow pride badges and didn’t know what they were doing? Oh, that’s unremarkable, and definitley touches on issues that are not really needed in this sort of ad.
What, but the robo-checkouts wouldn’t let you buy more than three packs at a time? Oh, that’s unremarkable, and definitley touches on issues that are not really needed in this sort of ad.
What, did you say Coles? Oh yeah! BAck to the ad.
(I’ve forgotten what type of narrative voice I was going for, but I’ll try to reset.)
An evening feast laid out on the table, and as the ad agency family box set settles in, at the end of it, a flatscreen touchscreen thing is set up.
“Oh, smart move”, I think. “Screens really bring a family together at mealtimes, who the hell ever needed a moment of grace before eating?”
The screen shows a couple with a babe in arms, the male birthing partner human wears a t-shirt under an untucked and unbuttoned short-sleeve shirt. “Nice threads, unshaven porky dad,” I note, “people with a young child are smart to keep lots of loose layers on hand, and I’m sure the extra washing will help to fill up the empty hours between feeds”.
The people on screen begin gurning and waving, like the ethnic granpeoples before them. “Oh!” I realise, “they’re using a new free video streaming service, to interact with the other actors from a different Local Government Area! What a blessing that the CCP generously traffic all the information on our behalf!” Something about the “one child” on screen and the Chinese nips at my consciousness, but I let it go.
Opa waves from his position of honour at the table end (I’m sure that it’s not an honour, and any resemblance to the family patriarch being given any position of honour is an unfortunate oversight that I’m sure will lead to the ad agency being thrashed on Gruen.).
He gets a bit teary and paws at a hand on his shoulder- which makes me rethink my impression that he’s not losing the plot in early stage Parkinson’s- “Oh, he’s obviously been touched by the generosity of Zoom, too. This sort of “virtual get-together” is completely normal, if not wonderous, if not The Light and The Way and The Future too!”
The camera pulls out and back and over the summer sunset suburban rooftops, in one last expensive cherry-picker shot. Or, it maybe was a drone shot, if they bought one before the chip supply dried up. Some graphics of nuts and berries wattle blooms (that’s funny, they’re a midwinter flower, I think)… are super-imposed in an ALMOST wreath-like surround…
The chummy voice of Curtis Stone says something soft-focus about togetherness… and however you celebrate… and we’re looking forward to… and it’s ALMOST like it’s a “goodwill to all men” vibe…
Some bullshit text about “Holiday Season Togetherness Family Celebration” are scripted, but they come with a sparkling wash of… Magicky… Ice- like… Snow-ish…
“AHA! I’ve cracked it!!! It’s all about CHRISTMAS DINNER!!!!” I rejoice. Well, I would rejoice, but that’s obviously a Eurocentric tradition, so I decide to Recognize instead.
I, for one, welcome our new atheist, corporatist overlords.

On FTA TV, I have just made an unsurprising discovery (having never watched all of the movies ever before).

No wonder children loved the Harry Potter books. There is zero “safety” and maximum risk, including broken noses, various horrible creatures and the distinct possibility of hideous death. Goodies, baddies and ones you’re not quite sure about.

Rowling clearly tapped into what children love.

Actually, If you listen carefully at the end where it’s cut off, he seems to be saying that the “unvaccinated” person has received one shot which, as far as I’m concerned, makes them all vaccinated.

The most horrifying thing about this is the age ranges because young people seriously ill from serious Covid were as rare as hen’s teeth before mass vaccination started. It is really a pandemic not just of the vaccinated but of the vaccines themselves.

I can’t, in all good conscience, talk my way back in when the pub is being threatened with a fine of $100,000 for letting in the unvaxxed — which would force it to close.

It would take a couple of weeks to get a document from Medicare ny mail proving I have had the jab, but I can’t start that process until I have a phone that hasn’t been “obsolescenced” (my old iPhone5 won’t do — iPhone 6S minimum — a family member is express-posting one from interstate).

Comensoli comes over as a mid level academic rather than a bishop. I think his main aim is to be invisible. He has never commented on any of the controversies during Francis’ pontificate, for example. He brought a new broom with him to Melbourne and used it to sweep away the previous clergy staffing the cathedral, replacing them with his own selection who are progressive and very much in the Francis mold. The spirit of intellectual and social snobbery accompanying all of this is why I avoid them. They seem to loath the church that St Mary McKillop knew and loved. Burning your old St Kevin’s blazer and denouncing sexism is where it’s at. As is burying media celebrities in a blaze of television lights for a State funeral.

Rowling tapped into something, that’s all.

Read the first three, they were ok. But the brilliance was to mesh the English public school ethnography with the study of magic. Eton with wands, and rugby quidditch. Fits like a glove when you think about it. Pratchett touches on this with his Unseen University.

And yes I suspect the sort of stuff in school libraries at the time would’ve been dire. Teenage angst and sex. Worse now. It’s no wonder that kids fell in love with Harry Potter. They were actual fun stories.

I much prefer Tamora Pierce. Marvellous stories which can be read easily as an adult or as a teenager.

That’s despite a relatively high vaccination rate. Almost 70 percent of Germans are fully vaccinated against the virus.
One of the main reasons are breakthrough infections – where the disease manages to bypass the jab.
The only consolation for the vaccinated is that severe illness is rare.

Still doing double degree in education when not working. Loves dealing with problem kids who other teachers can’t handle and the kids like him because he doesn’t put up with the bullshit the parents created. One of the teachers with delusions of grandeur asked the kids who was their favorite teacher? GreyRanga’s son. Why? He can do pull ups with his pinkies. What else? He can do push ups on two fingers. Anything else? He treats us like big kids, we are responsible. The parents love him too. We treated him the same way.

Pratchett had an amazing sense of play and imagination with his multiple different conceptions of magic. The diversity, and implications, of “magic” through such different forms as explored in Sourcery, Equal Rites, Dragons!, Pyramids… (and I’ve culled that list, I could go into Mort and Maskerade too) as well as the general bog standard “Harry Potter” wands-and-words that the Wizards use (leavened by the general incompetence and corruption of the wizards themselves) showed that Pratchett had more imagination and originality in a single book than most authors display in their lifetime.

Noo Joisey experiences, part two:

Mid May 1993. Two Ozzee wallees drop into a hotel in NJ after a long day’s driving. A room is booked and one of them takes the ford out to grab some beer. After all, a purveyor of alcoholic beverages can’t be that far way, right?

Wrong. Twenty minutes later on the turnpike, furiously and pointlessly yelling at the Jersey Barriers, a service station is finally seen.

Drop into the service station. No petrol, as it isn’t needed. Alcohol is. Walk into the shop, grab a six of Elephant Beer*. Approach the counter, with two typical Noo Joisey wallies behind it, excitedly discussing the latest Goose Springsteen release.

Me, “just the beers, thanks – do you have any ice?”
Noo Joisey wally: “Asse?”
Me: “Ice”
NJW: “Asse?”
Me: “Frozen water”
NJW: “Asse! – yeah we got some of that, just go get you some”

Sheesh – and then another twenty interminable minutes on the turnpike.

But those Elephelants did finally taste grate. 🙂

Bunnings vaccinations: West Aussies turn out for COVID jabs as part of ‘super vax weekend’
Joe SpagnoloThe West Australian
Sat, 6 November 2021 12:20PM

A sausage and a jab was the order of the day for dozens of West Australians on Saturday morning who turned up to Bunnings to get vaccinated as part of ‘super vax weekend’.

At Bunnings Balcatta, at least 40 people turned up in the first hour to get the jab – including mums, dads and kids.

“It’s an Australian thing to do, come to Bunnings on the weekend and get a sausage,” clinical nurse Kirrilly Owen said.

“And this weekend, they can also get a jab.”

On Friday, WA Premier Mark McGowan implored West Australians who had not been vaccinated to do so, as he promised to open up the hard border to NSW and Victoria once the state’s vaccination rate is estimated to hit a target of 90 per cent.

On current projections, that is likely to be sometime in January or early February.

Currently, WA’s double vaccination rate for eligible West Australians 12 and over is just over 60 per cent.

‘Super Vax weekend’ has seen vaccination clinics pop up at a number of Bunnings stores across the metropolitan and regional areas.

People who turned out to be jabbed on Saturday had various reasons for doing it, with the convenience of being able to turn up to Bunnings and get a jab a major factor.

Joe Spagnolo was one of Western Australia’s top investigative journalists. What happened?

She is lean, brown and comes from a town which I won’t identify but it is in rural NSW.

She has straight, stringy iron grey hair, and wears floral dresses and elastic sided boots with short socks, or thongs.

She is here to visit her sons, who live and work in Canberra. We got off to a bad start when she complained about me smoking (outside) anywhere near her. But my soft answer turned away her wrath, and we are now on acceptable terms.

When I see this vision tramping across the carpark – bright floral dress, boots, and stringy grey hair, I can’t help thinking of The Drover’s Wife. She is tough, and doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks.

No wonder Vietnamese people fled whenever they could. Despite all the tourism dollars and some modernisation of industry, they are still very poor, while the fat cats gorge:

A video showing celebrity chef Salt Bae feeding a powerful Vietnamese official morsels of steak smothered in gold leaf at a luxury London restaurant has sparked anger in the South-East Asian country, where the average person earns a few dollars a day.
Key points:

The steaks wrapped in edible 24-carat gold leaf reportedly cost more than $1,000
The video was posted by the restaurant before being removed
The average monthly income in Vietnam was about $248 in 2020

Minister of Public Security To Lam — whose agency deals with the monitoring of dissent and surveillance of activists in the authoritarian state — was seen tucking into the hunk of meat at Nusr-Et Steakhouse in the upper-class west London suburb of Knightsbridge.

Nusr-Et, named after Turkish chef Nusret Gokce — known to his nearly 40 million Instagram followers as Salt Bae — serves up steaks wrapped in edible 24-carat gold leaf, reportedly costing more than $1,000 each.

David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Campbell — and now the 64-year-old Mr Lam — have been among the visitors to the steakhouse’s branches across the world.

The clip of the Vietnamese politician, which was originally posted by the restaurant before being removed, had spread across Tiktok and Facebook in Vietnam by Friday.

I know and she knows that’s not the real answer and no wonder she finds the idea disturbing, and I’m a little pissed off at the news media for putting both this sort of disturbing deviant diversity into the normal sphere in the first place, as a new normal, and then drip-feeding the evidence when it’s an obvious elent of the slo-mo train wreck our society is going through.
And than, I think I’ve seriously put my foot in it with a dear old mate, with my line about Busso derros coming to Bunnings jabfest for a free feed (on an off-Cat forum). His own brother is a visible local derro, after drug-induced psychotic episode at 20ish.

You could have 5 million at your Melbourne protest and it will do nothing.
Not anymore.
You do not live in a democracy anymore.
The idiocy of saying I complied with tyranny to help it establish itself and now I’ll go out and protest about it should be obvious.
The sneering against me continues here because I hold a mirror up to those who want their attitudes over the last nearly two years forgotten.
Dick heads who , with fear in their hearts ,not only did nothing but actually mocked and criticized those that wanted to.
I and a few others here were derided as conspiracy theorists for pointing out right from the start what this was about and who was doing it.
The truth was smacking you in the face in February last year.
I was smacking you with it but you would rather scoff and shoot the messenger.
Now, after two years of compliance and hysterics when you had the benefit of right wingers actually linking you to event 201, and scoffing while being shown what Klaus Schwab was saying and doing, that right from the start the figures out of Italy were bullshit……with all the facts presented to you….all of the overwhelming evidence….others had not known, you scoffed and complied.
They’d never bring in a passport you said.
And now after already suffering more tyranny than anyone in the western world through compliance……after all you may have got a fine…..I come on here and at this stage of the game people are patting themselves on the back for attending a peaceful rally as if democracy still exists.
And you wonder why my tolerance level might be a bit low after the last two years.

Nothing proves your point because you don’t appreciate the difference between “proof” and “assertion”, you loudmouth, know nothing redneck.

The dumbest most hysterical poster here in the last two years.

LOl. Except that’s all youve done here for the past two years.

Then tries to pretend it never happened.

Nothing happened except having to endure your laughable bullshit.

If this is true….*shudder*.

Oh it’s true. The FBI raided a couple Veritas offices to find evidence on who “stole” it.

Note – It was never reported stolen. It just got published (not by Veritas).

I must have missed something. There is a story about Biden’s daughter’s diaries?

The FBI have just raided James O’Keefe’s (Project Veritas) in relation to Biden’s daughter’s diary. Showing the same judgement as her brother, apparently she left it somewhere and it was found. Someone (I don’t know who) published it but it didn’t make too many waves (e.g. hardly anyone here has heard of it). Apparently Project Veritas had it at some point but didn’t publish because it could not be verified …

… until now.

Biden’s surviving daughter made some disturbing claims about growing up with Joe in da house.
Trump’s niece also claimed that The Donald is a total arsehole, a claim partially confirmed by at leasy one of his sisters.

Ugh, Calli. Reading that makes all the little girl hair-sniffing even worse.

The overall sense I get is of a fairly toxic sexualised familial culture imbued with the leftist free-for-all that was the 70’s and 80’s when ‘at home’ in urban enclaves. Think little Samantha Knight, at its extreme. The Hewett girls too have come out speaking about how they were drawn into this sort of early sexualisation via their literary mother, with a similar (but worse) testimony to the musings in this diary – if it is real. The provenance of course will always be disputed now that it’s out.

Thankfully, Hairy and I had deliberately moved to the staidest of suburbs by the early 80’s to offer our four children a normal childhood of disciplined schoools, regular sports, learning music, and doing homework with the adults in their ambit being responsible rather than intrusive or at worst, dissolute.

Not to mention the cavalcade of fat vile amoral toads that preyed on them.

There’s a fantastic piece in Quadrant on the differences between Sydney and Melbourne, including the history of various anti-establishment movements that were rendered utterly irrelevant by the counter cultural revolution of the sixties and seventies. A veritable rogues gallery.

I haven’t been to a protest for some time …if ever. I was curious about the crowd…Why do so many people have tambourines? Where do they get them from? Are they supplied specifically for the protest ? Or is the protest full of junior school music teachers?

Reminded me of the old joke:
What’s the difference between a tambourine and a trampoline?

You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline.

That’s not to say that the staid suburbs were free from sleazy attitudes within families, or subtle cover ups of it, but the risk was definitely less. Hairy and I sent our little son aged 8 to the local Scouts as the hall was a stone’s throw from our new home, and we sat in on some management meetings to check it out as well as to help. We never felt that anything was amiss there and the activities really helped our son who was a shy little boy. My two boys from my first marriage, with their father still an inner-city leftie, were scathing of Scouts, but they did well at local suburban sports especially when Hairy was coaching their teams and keeping them up to the mark on attending practices. These inputs wouldn’t have happened in the inner suburbs at that time amongst the leftist crowd that we knew there before leaving. As soon as we had children, Hairy was determined to give them all the advantages of an upper middle class conservative upbringing; the one he had.

Sleepy Joe tried on his well worn line “you know & I know blah blah blah, but try explaining that to the people out there” again with regards to supply chain issues.
He did it at the Clarence Thomas hearings & was shown to be a poorly read fool.
Thirty years later, he’s still trying it on.

“The truth was smacking you in the face in February last year.”

Wrong Struth, you’re not Nostradamus. The truth wasn’t smacking me in the face last February….and it most certainly wasn’t smacking you either. February 2020 was before lockdowns. Nobody knew much about the virus. I didn’t think back in February 2020 that we were going to be locked down for three months in 2020 and then for over five months in 2021. And remember, I’m here in Sydney and we didn’t suffer like those in Victoria…and you Queenslanders have really not endured much at all.

Back in February 2020 I was concerned about the virus, primarily because I didn’t know much about it. However I was not hysterical with fear. I don’t recall anyone here on the Cat being hysterical…not me, not Lizzie, not Rosie. Some were concerned, some blithely disputed its existence, some said….like you….that it was merely a flu. Back in Feb/March 2020 I experienced moments of all three. Whilst I believe the virus to be real and to be dangerous to certain segments of the population, I do think a far worse contagion than “Wuhan flu” was deliberately cultivated by governments….that was and is a contagion of fear because it suits particular ideological narratives. I also believe lockdowns have been used as a dress rehearsal for climate lockdowns and espousing such a belief doesn’t make me a conspiracy merchant.

For the record, I don’t believe in lockdowns, I question their efficacy. The social and economic damage from lockdowns far outweigh any damage from the virus. I think we should have dealt with the virus by looking after those most at risk….the elderly….and we should have gotten on with our lives. For the record, I’ve never been “scared” of the virus….not for me personally however like many I was worried about my elderly parents. I decided to get vaccinated for personal reasons…..all which I’ve outlined here on the Cat before and all of which I’m not going to repeat. I’ll just say again that I don’t believe in mandatory vaccinations and I most certainly don’t believe in “vaccine passports”.

Anyway, what are you worried about? According to some, because I’ve been jabbed I’ll be dead in two years and you’ll have the world to yourself. But I reckon you’ll miss me!

As evil as the Obama administration was as a whole, they at least had some technically competent people in a few roles.
This Biden administration is full of staffers from the Obama-Biden time who just spent 4 years on K-Street during the Trump years.
They are really incompetent & all culture warriors (not the good kind).
