New Polling Indicates Conservative Party Support Lowest since 2019 Election
By Rory Cranstoun
10th Sep at 02:50 pm
New polling data from YouGov has revealed that support for the Conservative government under the leadership of Boris Johnson has fallen to levels unseen since the 2019 election, with Sir Kier Starmer’s Labour party taking a two-point lead.

The poll, which comes after the Conservatives’ decision on Tuesday to raise taxes on workers, employers, and investors to support the National Health Service (NHS), saw the party’s support slump five points to 33%, with Labour gaining one point and taking the lead at 35%.

The announcement of a highly controversial 1.25 percentage point increase on national insurance tax broke one of the Prime Minister’s six 2019 election “guarantees” and angered some Tory members. The policy, which some critics are predicting could be disastrous for the party, has undermined the Conservatives’ image of favouring small Government and low taxation.

Speaking on the results of the poll, Anthony Wells, political research director at YouGov, said that people should “be cautious of leaping to too many conclusions from a single poll.”

“But, it looks as if the government may have sacrificed their reputation for low taxes amongst Tory voters without actually getting much credit for helping the NHS.”

Meanwhile, Oliver Dowden, the culture minister, downplayed the results of the poll.

“Opinion polls come and go, what the government is doing is taking the long-term decisions in the national interest. In the end electorates reward governments who are willing to make difficult decisions in order to protect the national interest.”

Any word on whether that intimidatingly brilliant and in my agent woman who recommended we make porn movies for children has weighed in on also producing the same level of violence in movies for children.

Surely it would not be a bad thing for a seven-year-old to watch the beginning of Saving Private Ryan. Or any movie currently rated ‘R’.

And with her new guidelines there are a whole lot of new movies that could be made!

Late afternoon in NYC now. Twenty years ago people were preparing to go home from work, maybe pick up some take-away, watch a little TV, go to bed. Others were packing bags, putting some clothes out for tomorrow, a quick dash to the airport for an early morning flight.

And another lot, filled with malice and given over to evil, were also preparing. We won’t go into how they spent the next few hours, it doesn’t bear thinking about.

What we see on the banner is still in the future. Today will hurry by, as days usually do, with a thousand cares and joys and little inconsequential activities, and we are heedless of what tomorrow might bring.

How much the world has changed.

There are three other groups that I think of.
First, the group of incompetent law enforcement types that didn’t put at least some of the pieces together to at least disrupt some of the plan.
Next, the group of sycophant law enforcement types that did put at least some of the pieces together, but didn’t want to rock the boat to at least disrupt at least some of the plan.

Last, the group of law enforcement types that knew most of what at least one of the four groups were doing, but ran dead with the clear intention of letting it playing out.
This upper echelon group never saw an incident/crisis that they couldn’t repurpose for their own ends.

My dad sometimes had a dig at mum about her family. Dad was in the police and thought of his side as being in a better class than mums battler parents. Mums dad had done three months for sheep stealing around 1930. I started researching our families when ancestry.com came along, found out that all dads side, men and women were all transported here in the 1830’s, got their tickets and like many then changed their names and moved to Melbourne. Turns out our family name is really Metcalf, told mum and dad, mum was delighted, however dad seemed remarkably uninterested, if I ever bring it up he just changes the subject.

Turns out on one of mums branches there’s an ancestor who was with Bill in 1066, took over English estates and the family was quite wealthy and influential till the late 1700’s, then our branch wandered off to relative poverty and eventually Australia with the Hentys at Portland. Dad wasn’t interested in that either.

Dick extension.

Controversial Term Extension for London’s Dick Confirmed (10 Sep)

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick will remain at the helm of the London force until April 2024. Her five-year contract had been due to end next year. Home Secretary Priti Patel said the extension would provide “continuity and stability as we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic and recruit 20,000 additional police officers.”

At least that means she won’t be recruited by Dan or Gladys just yet.

Tracing my family history was a fairly simple job as it turns out being a Geordie from County Durham equals coal mining/associated .. way, way back to 1585 on both sides .. except for my GG Daddy who although a coal miner shipped out (with all the family) to Oz in 1858 to try his luck in the goldfields of Ballarat .. My Great grandma (mum’s side) was born in Golden Point , Victoria in 1859 .. GG Daddy struck it rich, sold up and the whole family was back in County Durham by 1862 .. Great gran never saw Oz again!
She married in 1883 & her husband ( My great Great Grandad died early (38yrs) in a Typhoid outbreak in 1893 .. Great gran was left a widow with 4 kids to raise .. thus the family’s gold find was fairly short lived..
I lived in the same house with my gran for 19 years and never once did she mention her parents or upbringing .. same with my Dad .. on my 1st trip back in 2013 I asked him to verify the names of his grandparents .. Gran & Grandad.. he said … He never knew their names until I told him … he was 84 then!

From Rosie’s link:
As I write, I sit opposite the 20-year-old girlfriend of my middle son. She is an impressive young woman. In challenging family circumstances, she had an early departure from school, but went on to complete an apprenticeship in wooden boat building. She rose to high rank in the air cadets and now holds down a responsible job in cyber security while studying for a full-time degree in that same subject. She is insightful, funny and kind and is planning to go on to study medicine. She is also an extremely brittle Type 1 diabetic, since infancy on an insulin pump.

She has had frequent hospital admissions with diabetic ketoacidosis and suffers a number of diabetic complications.

That story doesn’t add up.

I don’t know who exactly Obama had offed in the raid but I put high odds it wasn’t Bin Laden. It is funny how he had such a low profile after 9/11 with only very few obviously faked videos then nothing for years.
I suspect it was a Paki who looked a bit like Bin Laden who the Paki government wanted out of the way. Either that or the whole video evidence of the raid was faked and nobody died that day. The Pakis didn’t mount any response to the raid even though a military barracks was not far away. They were obviously in on it.
I think it still possible that Bin Laden is alive or he died at Tora Bora in 2002.

First off here though, 9/11. That chilling black and white photo distances it in time, which is appropriate as twenty years have passed. Coloration, as we see with the old WW1 photos, pushes it back in our faces. There are so many photos of the Twin Towers in an inferno of red.

I’ve really enjoyed reading the family history commentary here, for it shows how variable are the fortunes of families over time, and connects us in the present to the tremendous struggles made by our ancestors, our very own genetic lines, in the past, until we reach the present day of ‘known’ family members. Fascinating, and no wonder most people in retirement want to search back their origins.

I’d just got back from an arvo shift. 11.30 p.m. or thereabouts, and on the couch having a beer watching the teev. Sandra Sully said something about an accident where a plane had hit a skyscraper in NY.

Switched to cable. Watched the lot after that. Some time in, The Skank (the ex-Mrs KD) emerged from the bedroom. ‘What are you doing?’

‘World Trade Centre – planes into buildings – buildings down, thousands of people – FMD – hijackings – Jesus – ‘ aaaand so on.

It stared at the teev, actually watching the second tower collapse, then said ‘oh. Are you coming to bed soon? I have work in the morning.’

It is therefore no surprise, given this stunning lack of what Shane Warne calls ‘match awareness’, that she is now in Brisvegas, and said to be a yuuuuge Pallashay fan.

A 20 year war that allowed new weaponry & tech to be tested non stop.

It was sheer chance that I didn’t see the events in NY twenty years ago unfold live. Woke up to the dulcet tones of Karen Barlow (who I was friends with back in the day – magnificent boozies) intoning that both towers had been destroyed and countless thousands were believed dead.

Sprinted out to the living room, turned on the teev and watched the monstrousness unfold.

9/11 was a harbinger of a horror that is yet to fully unfold. Mankind’s appetite for destruction will never be whet. We’ve been blessed not have witnessed the sort of shit my parent’s generation lived through.

That story doesn’t add up.

While I disagree with this emergency room doctor about ‘opening up’, for he is captive to a Marxist vision of the world where profit and capitalism are dirty words, and he has no idea of what a real economy looks like, I still think his outline of that young woman’s history could be true.

She left school say at fifteen, learned a skill, joined air cadets and her talents showed, she got a job in cyber security, and is now thinking at twenty of doing medicine. You could overlay my own history in the 1950’s and early sixties over this and it might seem just as unrealistic (replace copywriting with cyber security) but it is true, and luckily I did not have a history of Type 1 diabetes (but my sister did). Those are vibrant developmental years for a young woman and if she seizes opportunities then the world is her oyster.

The doctor’s point that many people have chronic conditions was also true, but overblown. In population terms these do not compare numerically with the chronic conditions of those over 70.

As of now, it’s a piece of the legacy media that can be restructured.

The argument for the entire ABC is that public broadcasting is needed to address a ‘market failure’. The Internet has totally voided that argument now, with streaming services for music and television, subscription TV, digital multi channels on free to air, which are available via terrestrial and satellite to everyone in the country, and online radio stations from worldwide. My kitchen benchtop radio can pick up stations from anywhere using my wifi connection and I’m listening to a station from Munich right now.

People who have major illness can rise up and achieve a lot but she’s had frequent hospital stays and yet completed ,or is in the midst of, completing and she’s only 20.

Most times, though it doesn’t restrict achievement major illness can delay it.

I would think a boat building apprenticeship would be hard yakka, which given her health status, would suggest further difficulty to maintain her training and complete it.

Then what?, straight into cyber security! You would think you’d need some training before getting a job in that sector. And still only 20? It doesn’t add up.

Brace yourselves:

Officials in India are battling to keep another virus at bay after it claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy.

India’s southern Kerala state has seen a recent outbreak of the Nipah virus – that can be transmitted from human to human or via infected animals – with more infections confirmed over the weekend.

The Nipah virus – which was first discovered in 1999 in Malaysia – provokes symptoms including a fever and headache that can last anywhere between three days and two weeks, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

They say that infected people will also develop symptoms including fever, headaches, myalgia (muscle pain), vomiting and a sore throat.

This can be followed by dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness and neurological signs that indicate acute encephalitis.

The WHO says Nipah [a.k.a. ‘scrub typhus’] is less transmissible than Covid, but estimates the case fatality rate to be between 40 per cent and 75 per cent – compared to about 2 per cent for Covid.

There are currently no drugs or vaccines specific for Nipah, the WHO added.

Dr Rebecca Dutch, chair of the University of Kentucky’s department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, [said] that it is “extremely likely” the world will see more Nipah outbreaks.

“Nipah is one of the viruses that could absolutely be the cause of a new pandemic. Several things about Nipah are very concerning,” she said. “Many other viruses in that family (like measles) transmit well between people, so there is concern that a Nipah variant with increased transmission could arise.”

Hiden Biden…
Biden Will Not Deliver Live Remarks on 9/11 Anniversary
President Joe Biden will not give a live speech to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. He will instead release a prerecorded video of his remarks.
“You will hear from [Biden] in the form of a video in advance—or if that will be available that day, I should say,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Thursday.
The president will attend events at all three 9/11 memorial sites—in New York City, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon—on Saturday, the anniversary of the attacks. Psaki said Biden’s busy schedule that day precluded him from giving a live address.

Former president Donald Trump delivered live remarks to commemorate the attacks on each of the four years of his administration, as did former president Barack Obama each year of his two terms.

Or has his brain soup degenerated so much they cant trust him to deliver live remarks??

Andrews was offered the ADF to help with quarantine which he refused opting instead for a security firm located in Sydney who subcontracted to a agent in Melbourne . Staff recruited came from part of Melbourne with large families, poor English and also worked in other jobs and family members working in nursing homes .Friend’s son was recruited online given no training in health safety just told to report to a floor in hotel and he would be told what to do.

Remember how it only took a day or two for George W Bush to insist that Islam is a religion of peace…recall how he and his wife visited a mosque in the immediate wake of the attack to preach the LIE that Islam is a peaceful religion. That’s akin to Churchill visiting the German embassy after Germany invaded Poland on 1 September 1939. No, that is the legal position, min.

Thus at the first national cabinet meeting the Commonwealth promised to oversee security and protective measures at nursing homes. They dropped the ball and the Minister subsequently went missing.

And while hindsight may be a wonderful thing, it is now clear that hotel quarantine was a disaster waiting to happen. Andrews is directly to blame for that in Victoria, but it was Morrison’s decision to delegate Commonwealth responsibilities to the states that set it up to happen. Quarantine at home should have been maintained until the Commonwealth was able to equip existing facilities – of which there is no shortage – or build dedicated new facilities. There was no urgency to their response at any stage, leaving 30 000+ citizens stranded abroad. It is only now that they are building such a facility near the Brisbane airport.

These are not “half-truths”, these are the facts.

This ethnic/racial abuse sounds like it came from one of the QLD commenters.

“I hope you all die,” the caller added along with a torrent of cursing.

In another call, a man said: “I don’t know why you scumbags, Jews, think you can have a party while we’re all in lockdown and scumbags like yourselves think you are above the world as Jews. It is bad enough that I can’t stand Jews but now it’s even worse.”

The phone calls were reported to police, Abramovich said, assessing that anger over the party has been fueled by frustration at the extended lockdown.

“Everyone’s tolerance threshold is at breaking point,” he said.

I’m taking a rough guess here and say it’s either the Driller or Schnoopy who made the call.

All ‘details’aside, the Commandos and SASR have always selected for different characters and characteristics. They have different missions and foci, after all.

After the Counter-Terrorism element and some Counter-Insirgency work is stripped away, Commandos are raiders. They work in Platoon and Company groups, and are meant to bully their way into and back out of a fight. They are a supercharged and more specialised Infantry Battalion.

The SASR are reconaissance soldiers, and geared towards very unconventional work that is meant to be hyper-covert and discreet. They have traditionally worked in Section-sized groups, and to have more than a Troop in one location for a task is extremely unusual.

An intelligent Defence Force would have attemped to raise at least a second ARA Commando Regiment, or upskilled at least one Company in each its regular RAR Battalions to do the same style of intelligence-driven disruption ops that was foisted on SASR and 2CDO during the last 20 years.

It would have greatly improved the general proficiency and readiness of the ARA’s line battalions and Regular and Reserve Arms Corps units alike, through the inevitable skills osmosis of trained and certified guys showing their colleagues ‘how things are done where I come from.’ Be it through formally delivered courses or through the classic ‘Soldier’s Five.’

It would have also preserved 2CDO and SASR, and let them focus on their actual missions.

Instead we got 20 years of institutional exhaustion, wasted lives and experience, a ‘War Crimes’ investigation process that stands to outlast the war (and warriors) it purports to be examining, and (until Dutton canned it) a ‘Training’ and ‘Selection’ solution that would have delivered to both Commandos and SASR alike soldiers who certifably met the generic checklist for ‘Special Forces’ fitness and temperament, but totally unfit for either’s purposes.

But at least there would be more Staff Positions and funding for pet projects in the expanded Special Forces Training pipeline…

I recall watching a tv show late in the evening about Muhammad but this was the Ali kind. They interrupted the movie to show live from NY a plane had flown into the WTC tower. Having been there and viewed from the top it got my attention. Then we watched the second plane go in. I rang my brother and we both watched the surreal scenes. I said at the time ‘this will change the world and not in a good way’. I watched one tower collapse and stunned went to bed. My brother rang back and said the second one had collapsed. One god awful moment in world history brought to global living rooms live.
Life is not all upside, it has its down moments. The ups and downs are called risk. Life goes on. Looking out my kitchen window from lockdown Melbourne I never imagined we would sacrifice so much to keep ourselves ‘safe’. But here we are. The world did change and not in a good way.

High up in cadets = two Scout badges.

She could well’ve been an officer though: my dad made it to 2nd Lt in army cadets in high school, and probably could’ve gone on to a serious career in the ADF if he’d been inclined. Instead he became a teacher and reached senior principal at an early age, such is his drive. Good teacher too. I was in his class for two years. Couldn’t ever get out of homework.

““I hope you all die,” the caller added along with a torrent of cursing.

“Everyone’s tolerance threshold is at breaking point,” he said.”

Oh…so Abramovich is making excuses for the Jew hating abuse……disgraceful. Abramovich represents everything wrong with Jewish communal organisations ….he’s a leftist liberal……this is a prime example of what I wrote last night. There is no excuse for such anti-Semitic abuse.

Zombie remarks? Weekend at Bernie’s is now Weekend at Joe’s.

Well it could be worse: he might’ve delegated to Kamala. That’d be fun.

“Andrews was offered the ADF to help with quarantine which he refused opting instead for a security firm located in Sydney who subcontracted to a agent in Melbourne . Staff recruited came from part of Melbourne with large families, poor English and also worked in other jobs and family members working in nursing homes .Friend’s son was recruited online given no training in health safety just told to report to a floor in hotel and he would be told what to do.”

Fact check: true.
And don’t forget:
(a) Maximum Leader had issued a press release confirming that the ADF would be involved;
(b) there was no public request for expressions of interest, no tender process, no approach to any company which was actually on the State government’s own list of preferred providers of security services, just a phone call to a director and substantial shareholder in the company (who, by an amazing coincidence, was a former State vice-President of the Labor party);
(c ) six hours after that phone call, a contract was signed under which the company became entitled to over $30 million of taxpayers’ money.;
… and the rest is history.

Peter Dutton has overruled the Dept of Defence again.
On the advice of Hastie and Lewis, Dutton has scrapped the merging of SAS and Commando selection courses.
Detailed reasoning in Ben Packham’s column in the Oz.

Sounds to me like a logical move and another example of Dutton putting “mission readiness” over woke policy.

Now cancel the Frog Tadpoles.

Terrorists failed to crush our way of life which is the title of a column in The Oz today written by Scummo.

They may have failed, you brain dead Stoatweasel, but you’ve more than succeeded. Get a brain cell. In fact get two, so the first one won’t be lonely.

Junior was 12 when the planes hit the Tower and attending a Catholic parochial school in the East 30s. The staff ushered them all into the basement where, kids being kids, they were screaming and yelling and running about. When I got there to collect him, there was this white noise of little kids rising out of the basement.

Fruit of my loins wasn’t there, however. Instead of going downstairs he had slipped out of school and was sitting at the corner of Third and 28th watching the refugees head north on foot and refrigerated trucks from the Hunts Point Market going south to collect what authorities assumed would be a lot of bodies. There weren’t. The dead were mostly pulverised in the collapses, then cooked for months in the smouldering rubble. Here a finger, there a foot — that was all for the most part all there was to be found.

And those kids laughing and having fun in the basement at the novelty of it all, oh the tragic irony.

It was a working class school and a lot of the kids fathers were cops or firemen. Those kids weren’t going to see their fathers ever again. One of Ned’s classmates fathers, NYFD Officer Foti, turned out to be a bigamist who had two separate families, each oblivious to the other’s existence. The two wives met for the first time by his coffin.

For a year afterwards the Epiphany church, never had less than one coffin in the nave.

When Ned was Confirmed that year, they had to move three coffins to the side so the kids could line up for their slap on the face.

Strange days. And then came the anthrax letters.

Bruce news.

Scientists say they’ve found the first evidence of tool use by a kea for the purpose of self-care, in a new study from the University of Auckland.

The study, published in Scientific Reports, uses observations of a disabled kea (Nestor notabilis) named Bruce housed at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve in Christchurch, who has overcome his disability by using pebbles to preen himself.

Although anecdotal reports exist for self-care tool use in pet parrots, this form of tool use is rare in the wild, and this is the first time it has been observed in a kea. It is also the first scientific observation of a parrot using a pebble for self-care.

The photo is surreal – he’s got half a clothes-peg which he is holding between his tongue and lower beak. I like this Bruce, he’s a tough birdie.
