I think the strategy of isolating the whole household when one member is infected with COVID-19 is actually contributing to more infections rather than stopping the spread.
I have seen three households recently, two in the extended family, start off with one family member infected and eventually all or most of them succumb. The whole process takes two to three weeks until the household can rejoin the world again.
By making the whole family/household stay home means they are in close proximity to the infected person most of the day. If only the infected person and a carer if a child remained home then the exposure for all members is less likely.
